  • Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep Serve Delicious Drama in ‘Big Little Lies’ Set Photos

Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep Serve Delicious Drama in ‘Big Little Lies’ Set Photos

    HBO

A series of photos from the “Big Little Lies” set that surfaced online this week suggest that Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep‘s characters have quite the cold relationship on the show — and it’s going to cause some delicious onscreen drama.

That was the conclusion drawn by fans after some paparazzi shots from the show’s Los Angeles shoot were shared on social media. The pictures feature Witherspoon’s character, Madeline Mackenzie, hurling an ice cream cone at the back of the head of Streep’s character, Mary Louise Wright (who is — SPOILER ALERTthe mother of Alexander Skarsgaard’s now-deceased Perry, and the mother-in-law of Nicole Kidman‘s Celeste).

And if those images weren’t a tasty enough tease for fans of the acclaimed HBO series, Witherspoon herself got in on the fun, sharing some behind the scenes scoop about what happened after she lobbed those scoops at Streep.

“I am praying Reese pelts Meryl with that ice cream,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Oh Matt! No need to pray. I got her !” Witherspoon replied, confirming that her cone did indeed make contact with her fellow Oscar winner.

Legends pelting legends with frozen desserts. There’s just no topping that.

    Agreed, HBO. Agreed.

We can’t wait to watch this chilly relationship unfold on the new seas of “BLL,” which is set to debut on HBO sometime in 2019.

  • Reese Witherspoon Wants More Romantic Movies After Watching ‘Set It Up’

Reese Witherspoon Wants More Romantic Movies After Watching ‘Set It Up’

Instead of Netflix and chill, you can always Netflix and tweet. The hobby isn’t just for us regular people out there — even Academy Award winners like Reese Witherspoon have been known to do it.

The “Big Little Lies” star apparently had some quality Netflix time recently. After watching the Netflix rom-com “Set It Up,” she shared her feelings about the flick. Witherspoon must have enjoyed herself, because she wrote that there should be more movies like it.

“Watched a GREAT romantic comedy this weekend … which made me think .. why aren’t there more romantic movies …?!??!” she tweeted.

It’s funny she should mention that, because Witherspoon is the co-founder of a production company. Surely, she could keep an eye out for a good romantic movie to produce if she’s wanting to see more. Alternatively, she could star in one. She was, after all, the leading lady in one of our favorites from the early 2000s, “Sweet Home Alabama.” (In fact, her co-star Josh Lucas wants to make a sequel.)

Of course, Witherspoon’s career is super busy, so we understand if she doesn’t want to be the one bringing more romantic movies to movie fans. At the very least, though, we hope her support for “Set It Up” will encourage Netflix to give the movie a sequel.

  • Natalie Portman Shares First Look at ‘Pale Blue Dot,’ Replacing Reese Witherspoon

Natalie Portman Shares First Look at ‘Pale Blue Dot,’ Replacing Reese Witherspoon

    Fox Searchlight

Space is the place to be right now. Ryan Gosling has “First Man.” Sean Penn has “The First.” And now Natalie Portman has “Pale Blue Dot.”

Reese Witherspoon was attached to star in “Pale Blue Dot,” until scheduling conflicts arose with “Big Little Lies” Season 2. So the film swapped one Oscar winner for another. (What, like it’s hard?)

Natalie Portman just shared the first look at her character via Instagram, showing astronaut Lucy Cola in full NASA jumpsuit regalia. (See below.)

“Pale Blue Dot” co-stars Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, and Zazie Beetz. The story follows Lucy as she returns to Earth after a mission to outer space. According to Variety, “The film explores the theory that astronauts who spend long periods of time in space begin to lose their sense of reality when they return home.”

Apparently there’s a love triangle angle, and once her affair with a fellow astronaut comes to an end, Lucy beings to lose touch with reality.

According to ET, the movie is loosely based on the real-life “astronaut love triangle” story. When NASA captain and naval flight officer Lisa Nowak returned from a mission aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 2006, her boyfriend Bill Oefelein broke up with her and began to date U.S. Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman. It got very ugly.

    Here’s Portman all suited up:

“Pale Blue Dot” marks the feature film directorial debut for “Fargo” and “Legion” boss Noah Hawley. It also stars Ellen Burstyn, Colman Domingo, and Jeremiah Birkett. There’s no release date at this point.

  • Matthew Davis, Regina King Would Totally Be Up For ‘Legally Blonde 3’

Two cast members from the “Legally Blonde” movies are ready to bend and snap for a third movie.

Reese Witherspoon went on record last month that “Legally Blonde 3” is in the works, and former co-stars Matthew Davis and Regina King would sign up for the movie in a heartbeat.

Davis (“The Vampire Diaries”) played Warner, the arrogant ex-boyfriend of Elle Woods.

“I’m thrilled, and I don’t know anything,” Davis told Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con last weekend. “I would love to see where the writers think Warner is at this point.”

“Without Warner, there is no ‘Legally Blonde,’” he joked.

He pitched a plot where Warner is married to a female politician running for office. “He’s sort of like a kept man,” Davis explained. ”

“And her opponent is another candidate, and the person running the campaign is Elle Woods.”

As for King, who played congressional staffer Grace Rossier in “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde,” the Emmy-winning actress did not know a third movie was in development but was enthusiastic about it.

“I freakin’ love Reese,” King said. “And if she asked me to come back, even if it was just for a scene, I would.”

  • ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ Star Josh Lucas Is Trying to Get Reese Witherspoon to Do a Sequel

The 2002 film “Sweet Home Alabama” turns Sweet 16 in September, and its fans are ready to celebrate … with a sequel.

Josh Lucas, who starred opposite Reese Witherspoon in the romantic comedy, has been busy promoting his latest film, “Yellowstone,” and in the process, he’s been making the case for a followup to “Sweet Home Alabama.” In fact, he has gone so far as to try and get his former co-star on board.

“I’ve even reached out to Reese,” he said on “Access Live” on Tuesday. “I would love it, because I would love to see where these characters ended up, or where they are at this point in their life.”

Lucas has given the idea a lot of thought, to the point that he has a story in mind. He’d like to see Melanie and Jake divorced again, with Jake having to win his ex-wife back for the second time. The idea didn’t land well with the “Access Live” hosts at first, but as Lucas discussed the connection between the characters and their “eternal love,” he was able to win them over.

Of course, there’s the issue of how busy Witherspoon is now that she’s not only an actress but also a producer, the head of a media company, and more. Lucas said that he knew even early on that his co-star would go on to do huge things. Still, he thinks “Sweet Home Alabama” is “iconic” and hopes she’ll want to do a sequel at some point.

Now that Lucas has mentioned the possibility, fans are right there with him, calling for “Sweet Home Alabama 2.” The tweets have begun:

If Witherspoon is willing to do yet another “Legally Blonde” sequel, maybe it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

  • Reese Witherspoon Will Soon Have Her Own Talk Show, ‘Shine On with Reese’

    Open Road Films

Add another big role to Reese Witherspoon‘s resume: The actress is now a talk show host.

Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, teamed up with AT&T, and one of the results is “Shine On with Reese,” a talk show that will follow the Academy Award winner as she hangs out with fellow female trailblazers and shares “some real talk and laughs.” The newly minted talk show host revealed a teaser on Tuesday, and it shows her chatting with guests including Pink, Ava DuVernay, Dolly Parton, America Ferrera, and more.

“I am so excited for the world to experience the stories from our partnership with AT&T, which are set to be equal parts entertaining, inspiring, thought-provoking and unabashedly real,” Witherspoon said in a press release.

The premiere of the series coincides with the launch of Hello Sunshine’s new VOD channel. DirecTV, DirecTV Now, and U-Verse subscribers will all be able to access it; it’s channel 1112 on DirecTV and 1530 on U-Verse.

“Shine On with Reese” premieres July 17, and new episodes will arrive weekly.

  • Reese Witherspoon’s ‘Legally Blonde 3’ Confirmation Got Twitter All Fired Up

When post on social media combines Reese Witherspoon, confirmation of “Legally Blonde 3,” and a reenactment of an iconic scene from the series, an outpouring of love and excitement is the natural result.

Witherspoon confirmed the upcoming sequel Thursday on social media, posting a video of herself floating in a pool wearing what looks like the same pink sequin bikini she wore in 2001’s “Legally Blonde.” Immediately, people began celebrating. There was a flood of Elle Woods GIFs, memes, and quotes, plus fans weighing in on how thrilled they were. Basically, no one objected; instead, they heralded the way she broke the news as “iconic,” encouraged others to “bend and snap,” and speculated about what the sequel could have in store for their favorite Harvard Law grad.

Here are some of the best reactions for fans who are ready to buy their tickets now:

“Legally Blonde 3” is due out Valentine’s Day 2020. This is going to be just like senior year, except for funner.

  • ‘Legally Blonde 3’ Now Has a Release Date

Just hours after star Reese Witherspoon confirmed the news that “Legally Blonde 3” is, like, totally happening, the film now has an official release date.

MGM revealed on Thursday that the threequel will be hitting theaters on a very romantic date: February 14, 2020. As for what the Valentine’s Day holiday might mean for Witherspoon’s heroine, Elle, we’re not sure, since the plot is being carefully guarded for now. But it’s certainly an appropriate choice, considering all the love that fans have been showing for 2001’s “Legally Blonde” recently.

Reports of “Legally Blonde 3” being in the works first surfaced earlier this week, when Deadline reported that MGM was putting the project together. Not only is Witherspoon returning to reprise her role, as well as produce, but the first film’s writers (Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah) and producers (led by Marc Platt) will also be back, too.

Obviously, this is super exciting news, and there’s seemingly endless possibilities for where the story could go next. Witherspoon had previously teased that she’d love to see the series — which last hit theaters in 2003’s “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde” — explore Elle entering politics, or even pursuing a seat on the Supreme Court. (What, like it’s hard?)

We can’t wait to hear more about the new flick. Stay tuned.

  • ‘Legally Blonde 3’ in the Works, Reese Witherspoon to Star and Produce

Elle Woods may soon be bringing her brand of girl power back to the big screen: “Legally Blonde 3” is reportedly currently in development.

The scoop comes from Deadline, which reports that studio MGM is working on a threequel, with star Reese Witherspoon returning to both headline the feature and produce. According to the trade, the project is “coming together quickly,” and will reunite many folks who worked behind the scenes on the first flick.

Original screenwriters Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah are currently negotiating to pen the new script, and the plan is to “begin writing immediately,” per Deadline. Producer Marc Platt is also returning, and the next step is finding a director.

Though plot details are not being shared just yet, Deadline reports that “Legally Blonde 3” “will be much in the spirit of” the 2001 original. “Legally Blonde” featured Witherspoon as the pink-obsessed Woods, who gets into Harvard Law to win back her ex, and discovers that she’s a pretty awesome attorney-in-training — and doesn’t need that lame guy.

Here’s the vibe the new production is going for, according to the trade:

The intention here is to make this more about female empowerment, a message that hits at a fortuitous time in the culture. The feeling is to draw back in the audience that grew up with the original film and find a new global audience.

Witherspoon, who’s still pretty adept at the Bend and Snap, has long wanted to add another entry to the series, which ended way back in 2003 with the release of the sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.” Just last year, the star said that she would be on board for a potential third film.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed that her — and our — dream comes true soon.

  • ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2: Reese Witherspoon Shares Set Photo With Adorable New Character

The “Big Little Lies” set is where we want to be after seeing the latest photo.

Reese Witherspoon and her co-stars are busy filming Season 2, and they’ve been joined by an adorable new cast mate. He was recently photographed alongside Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, and giving the former the perfect way to introduce him. Witherspoon shared the photo via Twitter on Thursday, saying he has “the best hair of all the cast.”

That adorable creature is Jolly. He’ll be joining Witherspoon in the upcoming season, and she and Kidman seem as excited about that as we are. The fluffy dog will hopefully bring some lightness to a show that has been known to get pretty dark.

The sophomore season of the hit HBO drama will pick up after the events of Season 1 and continue to explore lies, friendship, marriage, and parenting.

“Big Little Lies” Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2019.
