Moviefone: To begin with, Daveed, can you talk about your first reaction to the screenplay and why you wanted to play this character?

Daveed Diggs: I loved the scripts. I loved how impossible it felt to make. I loved the people working on it. I loved Greg’s decisiveness about who he was in love with. It is just, “This is my person. I know this is my person. I’m so confident in that, and I’m just going to sit in that and be honest about that and believe that it’s going to work out.” There’s so much faith in him that I found aspirational.

MF: Rashida, can you talk about your approach to playing Claire and depicting her quiet moments?

Rashida Jones: I relate to the idea that all these small moments make up a big life, and that’s just the truth. Nobody can really see the scope of their life unless they’re looking back, which is why this movie’s beautiful, because you’re spending time with people as they live their lives. So, consequential looking back, but at the time, you’re just making decisions for your family and yourself that you think are right and that you hope are right, and you’re making decisions out of love, hopefully. So, it was nice. It was nice to play those as real and present without thinking about the scope of the movie and the scope of life.

MF: Finally, Daveed, what makes this film different than other movies and uniquely stand out?

DD: I think the span of time it’s attempting to take us through is unique. 40,000 years in the past to about that far in the future is a big scope. I think to have a film that’s essentially a romance, but it’s structured as a grand sweeping epic. It’s the ‘Ben-Hur’ of romances. It’s a unique thing. It was very exciting for me to be a part of.

Olivia Wilde continues to keep her directorial career bubbling along. Following on her 2022 effort ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ the actor/filmmaker has narrowed in her next gig, which is already shooting in Los Angeles.

Wilde is both calling the shots for, and appearing in, new comedy ‘The Invite’ and she’s gathered quite the starry cast to lead it.

According to the official synopsis, Wilde’s latest directorial effort is about a couple who invites the neighbors over, igniting an evening full of unexpected twists and turns, revealing deeply repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.

The story has its origins in 2020 Spanish film ‘Sentimental’ (AKA ‘The People Upstairs’), which was written and directed by Cesc Gay.

It has been adapted a variety of times before, including into 2022’s Italian version ‘Vicini di casa,’ 2023’s Swiss effort ‘The Neighbors from Upstairs,’ 2024 French remake ‘Maybe More’ and that same year, a Czech movie called ‘V dobrém i zlém.’

This latest script comes courtesy of Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who have collaborated on the likes of ‘Celeste and Jesse Forever’ and contributed story material to ‘Toy Story 4.’

In addition to this latest project, Wilde also has other directorial gigs in development, including Universal Pictures’ Christmas comedy ‘Naughty’ and Warner Bros.’ ‘Avengelyne,’ a film adaptation of the ’90s comic book character, both of which boast the support of Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap production company.

There’s also a new, untitled comedy project she’s been writing with ‘Booksmart’ collaborator Katie Silbermab.

As an actor, she’ll next be seen in Gregg Araki’s comedy ‘I Want Your Sex’ opposite Cooper Hoffman and Charli XCX.

Rogen is enjoying success with his Apple TV+ Hollywood satire ‘The Studio,’ which he co-created, co-directs and stars in as a newly crowned studio head wrangling with the division between art and business in his job.

The show features an appearance by Wilde, playing a version of herself.

He was recently heard reprising the voice of Pumbaa in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ and has the role of autocratic porcine in Andy Serkis’ animated ‘Animal Farm.’

Beyond that is Aziz Ansari’s ‘Good Fortune,’ new drama ‘The Wrong Girls,’ and a wealth of projects in development.

Where else can we see Penélope Cruz?

Cruz was last seen in Michael Mann’s motoring biopic ‘Ferrari, and has ‘Johnny’s Inferno’ in the works.

She’ll be seen in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein take ‘The Bride,’ and is starring with Johnny Depp in ‘Day Drinker.’

What else has Edward Norton appeared in?

Norton was Oscar nominated for his role as Pete Seeger in Bob Dylan movie ‘A Complete Unknown’ and is lending his voice as narrator for new documentary ‘Fasting and the Longevity Revolution.’

And, as with many of his colleagues, there are a number of projects in development.

When will ‘The Invite’ accept an invitation to appear in theaters?

At this stage, the movie has yet to lock down a distributor, so we’re guessing a deal is forthcoming or the rights will be available at an upcoming film market.

Given the name cast, we doubt it’ll take too long for it to be snapped up.

  • TV Review: ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7

‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 receives 8 out of 10 stars.

Returning to Netflix on April 10th for a seventh season of anthology tales blending techno-terror with emotion, ‘Black Mirror’ proves it still has what it counts as the modern-day equivalent of ‘The Outer Limits’ or ‘The Twilight Zone.’

And this time, with six episodes in play, there is a greater scope for stories to be told compared to some of the more compacted recent seasons. It’s also reassuring that, after some slightly less effective entries, the seventh season finds the show handily back on form.

Does ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 reflect well on the series?

Paul Giamatti in ‘Black Mirror’ season 7. Photo: Nick Wall/Netflix.

‘Black Mirror’ has always been about more than simply darkly shaded warnings about the use (and mis-use of technology); it’s about humans and how we interact, also. Season 7 definitely lives up to that aim, offering some persuasive tales of those whose lives are impacted by innovations in medical science or tech in general.

It’s also welcome to see the series following up on a couple of popular episodes –– while the sequel to ‘USS Callister’ doesn’t have the sting of the original, for example, it expands it in interesting ways and deepens one of the characters in the process.

    Script and Direction

Charlie Brooker, the show’s co-creator, once again leads the writing team here, working alongside the likes of Bisha K. Ali, Ella Road, William Bridges, and Bekka Bowling to put out more gripping tales. A highlight of the writing this time in the first entry, ‘Common People,’ with its spin on ever-changing subscription services this time applied to live-saving medical treatment. It’s emotional and thorough, and heartbreaking when needed.

On a more darkly funny level is ‘Bête Noire,’ with its vengeful story of old resentments curdled into fresh vengeance. We won’t reveal exactly what is going on, but the answer is a fun one.

Directing wise, it’s reassuring to see such filmmakers as David Slade and Toby Hynes brought back to handle the two episodes –– ‘Plaything’ and ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ that call back to their previous work.

All in all, though, the direction is superb –– stylish when required, subtle at other times.

    Cast and Performances

As has become commonplace for ‘Black Mirror,’ Season 7 boasts a quality ensemble for its various stories.

Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones are at the heart of ‘Common People’ and put in turns that are funny, real and packed full of feeling, but not forgetting Tracee Ellis Ross as their company rep, who keeps pushing new updates with a smile, even when the couple struggle to keep up financially.

‘Hotel Reverie’ blends classic Hollywood with high-tech and features lovely work from Emma Corrin and Issa Rae, with fine support from Awkwafina and Harriet Walter.

Peter Capaldi in 'Black Mirror' season 7. Photo: Nick Wall/Netflix.
Peter Capaldi in ‘Black Mirror’ season 7. Photo: Nick Wall/Netflix.

‘Plaything’ hinges on the intense energy of Peter Capaldi, who really sells the focus of a man on a mission, but kudos also to Lewis Gribben, who plays the same character 40 years earlier.

‘Eulogy’ boasts excellent work from Paul Giamatti as a man haunted by grief and memory (literally in this case) and grapples with tough truths about his past.

And ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ of course re-introduces us to the brave, digi-DNA copies of the crew (and their human counterparts), with Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson and Jesse Plemons all fantastic returning to their roles.

    Final Thoughts

Issa Rae in 'Black Mirror' season 7. Photo: Nick Wall/Netflix.

While it has the usual highs and lows as in any ‘Black Mirror’ season, the highs far outweigh the lows, and for every episode that doesn’t shine as brightly (‘Bête Noire’ is a fun concept but doesn’t totally deliver), there is a wonderful show waiting to be injected into your eyes.

Oh, and fans of the series will want to be on the lookout for a recurring motif; let’s just say it starts with the letter “J”…

What’s the story of ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7?

The six-episode season of ‘Black Mirror’ features the following stories…

‘Common People’: When a medical emergency leaves schoolteacher Amanda fighting for her life, her desperate husband Mike signs her up for Rivermind, a high-tech system that will keep her alive –– but at a cost…

‘Bête Noire’: Confectionary whizz kid Maria is unnerved when her former schoolmate Verity joins the company she works at — because there’s something altogether odd about Verity, something only Maria seems to notice…

‘Hotel Reverie’: A high-tech, unusually immersive remake of a vintage British film sends Hollywood A-list star Brandy Friday into another dimension, where she must stick to the script if she ever wants to make it home.

‘Plaything’: In a near-future London, an eccentric murder suspect is linked to an unusual video game from the 1990s — a game populated by cute, evolving artificial lifeforms.

‘Eulogy’: An isolated man is introduced to a groundbreaking system that allows its users to literally step inside old photographs — stirring powerful emotions in the process.

‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’: Robert Daly is dead, but now the crew of the USS Callister –– led by Captain Nanette Cole –– are stranded in an infinite virtual universe, fighting for survival against 30 million players.

    • Musical icon Quincy Jones has died at the age of 91.
    • He enjoyed a long, successful career almost impossible to sum up in one sentence.
    • Jones will be best remembered for his work as a composer, producer, songwriter and performer.

Quincy Jones, long acknowledged as a titan of music and movies, died Sunday at the age of 91.

The legendary performer, composer, producer and songsmith’s death was announced by his family in a statement to the Associated Press:

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. Born in Chicago in 1933 and raised in Seattle, Jones’ early years were tough, but he found an escape in music.

He studied music theory and composition as a trumpet player and went on to attend Berklee College of Music on a scholarship, but left before completing his degree to tour with bandleader Lionel Hampton.

In the 1950s, Jones worked with jazz legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, and Count Basie, carving out his reputation as an arranger and conductor.

Jones worked for decades with other musical icons including Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Betty Carter, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Minnie Ripperton, Al Jarreau, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, James Ingram and Tamia, among many others.

For Michael Jackson, he produced “Thriller”, which won eight Grammys and became a cultural milestone. He also produced two more of Jackson’s bestselling albums, “Off the Wall” and “Bad.”

An active charity worker and activist, he gathered 1985 supergroup USA for Africa megahit “We Are the World,” whose sales supported African famine relief. Jones co-wrote the song with Lionel Richie.

For movie fans, Jones has a firm place in hearts and minds as the composer behind a huge swathe of scores. He was the first Black composer to score a major motion picture via ‘The Pawnbroker,’ in 1964.

His scores included ‘In the Heat of the Night,’ ‘In Cold Blood,’ ‘Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice,’ ‘The Out-of-Towners,’ ‘They Call Me Mr. Tibbs,’ ‘The Wiz’ and ‘The Color Purple.’

That latter title also cemented his reputation as a producer, since he helped shepherd different incarnations of ‘The Color Purple’ to screen and stage, including last year’s movie musical.

On the small screen, Jones was an executive producer of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ ‘Mad TV,’ ‘The Jenny Jones Show’ and the 1996 Oscars, in addition to writing music or scores for ‘Ironside,’ ‘The Bill Cosby Show,’ ‘Roots,’ ‘Mad TV’ and, most famously, ‘Sanford & Son.’

It’s a testament to Jones’ enduring legacy across the entertainment spectrum that a wide variety of performers from the world of both music and film are paying tribute.

Rapper and actor LL Cool J took to Instagram to write the following:

“You were a father and example at a time when I truly needed a father and example. Mentor. Role model. King. You gave me opportunities and shared wisdom. Music would not be music without you. My condolences to the entire family. I love you. Rest in the sweetest music eternally.”

And actor Michael Caine (for whom Jones produced the score for ‘The Italian Job’ wrote on twitter:

Moviefone: To begin with, can you talk about your first reaction to the premise of the series and why you wanted to play this character?

Rashida Jones: I loved the premise. I loved the whole world that was already constructed when I read the scripts and I got a cool deck and a playlist and all this stuff, and it just felt wholly new to me, original and kind of nothing I’ve really been given the opportunity to do before. I’ve been very lucky to work in comedy for many years, and this is something slightly different because it is kind of a mystery thriller. There are comic elements, but they come out of a pretty dark place, and there was something kind of twisted and dark and transgressive about the show that I really liked. A lot of it took place at night. There’s a bit of sitting and isolation and grief in a way that I find interesting, where most people want to get away from that this whole show takes place in the most uncomfortable parts of being alive, which I enjoyed.

MF: Can you talk about the grief that Suzie is experiencing and what happens when she meets Sunny?

RJ: I mean, I think you meet Suzie and she’s just experienced unimaginable loss, her family’s missing and she’s rudderless and hopeless. Then she’s not the kind of person who is likely to reach out for help. So, she gets this robot, which she does not like, and she’s not really interested in having in her home, and she tries very hard to get rid of it, but it’s a gift from her husband. So that begins this sort of mystery about who her husband really was because she didn’t even know he worked with robots and what he did every day. Also, for him to have spent all this time creating this thing that she now lives with, I think kind of catches her off guard. So, it sends her on this sort of new adventure to figure out everything while she’s also just processing the fact that her life is completely upended.

MF: Finally, how does it all work? Who are you acting with when you are filming scenes with Sunny?

RJ: I’m acting opposite Sunny, believe it or not. She was practical, not all the way practical, but Joanna Sotomura, who’s the actor who played her voice, she was just a little bit offset and her expressions would be transferred via camera on a helmet to Sunny’s face simultaneously, and then her voice would be piped into the set. So, I got to act with Joanna the whole time, which was great, but then it took a lot of people to make her really move around and follow directions. I wouldn’t say she was the easiest actor I’d ever worked with. But it works, on camera it really works. But thank God for Joanna because I think I’m not the kind of person who can do green screen tennis ball acting. I can’t just act with nothing. It was very great to have this wonderful actor behind the curtain.

It was a massive hit in its day, earning more than $103 million at the box office. Parton contributed the iconic theme song, which was nominated for an Original Song Oscar, went platinum and was also nominated for four Grammy Award nominations, winning Best Country Song and Best Country Vocal Performance.

In terms of spin-offs, it inspired a sitcom (starring Rita Moreno), ‘Nine to Five’ that ran for five seasons in the 1980s, while a 2008 Broadway musical (with music and lyrics by Parton), earned four Tony nominations.

More recently, a documentary released in 2022, ‘Still Working 9 to 5’ looked at the movie’s continuing cultural impact.

‘9 to 5’: What has happened with the remake so far?

Even before the latest remake chatter gathered pace, there was talk of a sequel with original co-writer Patricia scripting and Rashida Jones starring.

Yet talk of a remake has also circulated for years, with Lily Tomlin as one of driving forces.

Here’s what she told Indiewire about it:

“I have a big hope! More than Jane. Jane’s gone on to climate change, and she’s very involved in it and rightly so. I would like any material that’s just really rich and true and not dishonest and somehow its intention is communicating something better to humanity. I’m interested in any human issue, any human condition, anything about humanity that’s positive or says something meaningful about how we’re living or what we’re doing to each other, any number of things like that. But we like to get the comedy in there.”

Right now, ‘Juno’, ‘Jennifer’s Body’ and ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ writer Diablo Cody is involved in the script.

So, why is Jennifer Aniston looking to produce the remake?

While it certainly sounds like something Aniston would be interested in regardless –– her company has, after all, been involved in projects such as ‘The Morning Show’, which also tackled attitudes towards women in the workplace.

A closer connection might be Netflix movie ‘Dumplin’, which also saw her starring and producing, and had a soundtrack featuring songs by Parton.

When will the new take on ‘9 to 5’ arrive in theaters?

With the movie still at such an early stage, there is no information about a release date yet, and 20th Century Studios has yet to announce anything.

  • TV Review: ‘Silo’

Rebecca Ferguson in 'Silo,' premiering May 5, 2023 on Apple TV+.
Rebecca Ferguson in ‘Silo,’ premiering May 5, 2023 on Apple TV+.

Premiering with its first two episodes on May 5th, ‘Silo’ represents Apple TV+ moving into the sort of dystopian territory covered extensively in movies and TV series, but also managing to say something new about human foibles and the lies that can build up within authority.

    What’s the story of ‘Silo’?

‘Silo’ tells of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences –– if you do end up challenging the authority, you’re sent outside to clean the lens of the one camera sending footage of the outdoors… Which as far as anyone knows is a death sentence in the most agonizing fashion. Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.

Adapted from Hugh Howey’s book ‘Wool’ (originally self-published online by the author, who cannily held on to the rights to the early stories), ‘Silo’ has ‘Justified’s Graham Yost as its showrunner and Morten Tyldum and David Semel among its directors.

    Who else appears in ‘Silo’?

The ensemble cast starring alongside Ferguson includes Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, Ferdinand Kingsley and Tim Robbins.

    Should you dive into ‘Silo’?

Like most of its Apple TV+ stablemates, ‘Silo’ is the product of a company willing to spend an expansive budget to bring it to life: the world that these characters live in is an immersive one, a concrete realm of curving stairways and chunky, basic chambers. It’s all low-tech brought to life into an incredibly high-tech fashion –– the giant sets aided by CGI.

But great production design is nothing without compelling people and an interesting story, and fortunately ‘Silo’ boasts both. Yost and his team have embraced the complicated political mystery and danger of Howey’s story, resulting in a thorny, twisty mystery that will keep you guessing.

As for the cast, this is an eclectic line-up that offers something to keep hold of while the story weaves around them. Ferguson in particular is beguiling as the intense Juliette, who would much rather be nurturing the giant generator that keeps the lights (and everything else) on in the Silo than step up to be the new sheriff. But inspired by the suspicious death of Kingsley’s tech-obsessed George Wilkins, she reluctantly agrees, digging up yet more secrets, including some that impact her own troubled past.

Given such meaty material, Ferguson shines, exploring Juliette’s layers even as she explores the various levels of her home. Kingsley, meanwhile, brings emotional heft to a relatively smaller role. And there is a host of other reliable talent offering memorable work.

Rashida Jones and David Oyelowo in 'Silo,' premiering May 5, 2023 on Apple TV+.
(L to R) Rashida Jones and David Oyelowo in ‘Silo,’ premiering May 5, 2023 on Apple TV+.

The structure of the show is also interesting, kicking off primarily with the story of the current Sheriff (Oyelowo) and his wife (Jones) who learn some disturbing information that challenges what they believed to be true about their subterranean world. Soon, these previously model citizens are looking for more answers, and that ends up dooming then. The narrative then shifts mostly to Juliette’s story as the new sheriff and the various forces at play in support of her and against her.

Will Patton is the experienced, careworn deputy not looking for advancement but thrust into a much more responsible role as his department and the mysterious, Judicial Department, which runs its own secret police force and becomes ever more powerful as the story develops. And slithering around it all, the IT autocrat Bernard played by Robbins with chilly, sociopathic intensity like something out of a George Orwell story.

What really works about the show is the successful blend of tones and genres that Yost and his writers have pulled off here –– along with the dystopian tale and conspiracy mystery thriller, there’s police procedural sleuthing, showdowns that evoke Westerns and philosophical debate.

    Tricky Tropes

If there’s anything to complain about with the new series, it’s that the actual story proper takes a while to get moving (though it does all coalesce successfully towards the end) that might put off viewers unable to binge the whole season in Apple’s current plan of launching with two episodes and then drip-feeding an episode a week through June 30th. Yet it’s certainly worth sticking with.

This is also not a show to recommend if you’re after a cheery, lightweight series. There is gallows humor within, but this has an expectedly dour tone, dealing as it does with dark conspiracies, desperate humans, murder and state sanctioned executions-by-exile.

Some will no doubt roll their eyes at the extensive use of invented terms to define how this society speaks and thinks –– there’s lots of talk of the “founders”, the “before-times”, “the Pact”, the “down-deep” and the “up-top”. If your patience runs thin for such sci-fi language, ‘Silo’ might not be the show for you. But it’s all handled without drawing too much attention to itself.

The real focus of the show is the broken, fascinating characters poking into the darker corners of their world. And in that, ‘Silo’ most certainly succeeds. It might not end up drawing the buzz of something along the lines of fellow Apple TV+ S-word series ‘Severance’, but it’s more than worth your time if you’re willing to dive deep.

‘Silo’ receives 7.5 out of 10 stars.

  • Trailer for Apple TV+ Series ‘Silo’

    xhKR2mHF

‘Silo’ represents what is rapidly becoming some Apple TV+ trademarks. Like many other streaming services, it has grabbed the rights to a bestselling book series (in this case, Hugh Howey’s dystopian ‘Wool’ novels), cast it with an impressive ensemble, thrown a lot of money into the budget to guarantee it looks good, and, following the likes of ‘Slow Horses’, ‘Severance’, ‘Shrinking’, ‘Servant’, ‘Shantaram’ and more, has another show starting with S (at this rate, we’re wondering if ‘Ted Lasso’s third season will see the series’ name changed to ‘Sledge Lasso’ just to keep that going.)

But it’s certainly a high profile new show for the service, with a solid sci-fi pedigree and the cast to match.

    What happens in ‘Silo’?

‘Silo’ is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. They’re constantly told how dangerous it would be to leave the protective sanctuary of the Silo, but there are some disturbing issues afoot.

No one, for example, knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences. Which doesn’t really help when the authorities are trying to convince people that it’s a safe place to life.

Rebecca Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.

Who made the new show ‘Silo’?

Behind the scenes for this one are Emmy-nominated writer Graham Yost (who has worked on shows such as ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘Justified’) running the show and director Morten Tyldum (behind the movie ‘The Imitation Game’ and previous Apple series ‘Defending Jacob’), who oversees the first three episodes.

Alongside Ferguson, the cast also includes Common, Ferdinand Kingsley, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, James Palmer, Will Merrick, Henry Garrett, Iain Glen, Shane McRae, Nick Judge and Tim Robbins.

Originally self-published by Howey, the ‘Wool’ books have become something of a sensation. An adaptation has been in the works for a while now –– it was in development at 20th Century Fox back when it was still called 20th Century Fox, with Ridley Scott and Steven Zaillian producing. ‘I Care a Lot’s J Blakeson wrote several drafts of the script before ‘Captain Marvel’s Nicole Perlman was brought in.

Yet if we’re honest, television feels like a more natural home for the story, especially given the fact that there are sequel and prequel trilogies available as source material, so if the show is a success, expect plenty of future seasons.

The first two episodes of ‘Silo’ land on Apple TV+ on May 5th, with new episodes dropping weekly.

  • Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray Reteam For ‘On the Rocks’

Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray Reteam For ‘On the Rocks’

    Focus Features

It’s a “Lost in Translation” reunion! Writer/director Sofia Coppola (who won an Oscar for her “Lost in Translation” screenplay) and Bill Murray (who got a Best Actor nomination for the film) will reteam for “On the Rocks.”

According to The Wrap, the film will be about a young mother (“The Office” alum Rashida Jones) who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father (Murray) in New York City. Production begins this spring on location in New York.

It will be the first film made under the recently formed partnership between A24 and Apple. It’s not clear yet if the movie will go direct to streaming or (more likely) will also receive an awards-qualifying theatrical release, like Netflix’s “Roma.”

Coppola’s last film was the 2017 Civil War drama “The Beguiled.” She previously worked with A24 on 2013’s “The Bling Ring.”

Murray’s currently filming “The French Dispatch” with Wes Anderson. He’ll also appear in Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy “The Dead Don’t Die,” which is due sometime later this year.

Jones’s drama “The Sound of Silence,” premieres at Sundance this month.

  • Rashida Jones, AMC Developing ‘Kevin Can F*** Himself’ From Sitcom Wife’s POV

Rashida Jones, AMC Developing ‘Kevin Can F*** Himself’ From Sitcom Wife’s POV

    TBS

    Kevin can certainly wait.

AMC is developing “Kevin Can Go F*** Himself,” a serio-comic series created by Valerie Armstrong (“SEAL Team”) and executive-produced by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.

The show “explores the secret life of a woman we all grew up watching: the sitcom wife. A beauty paired with a less attractive, dismissive, caveman-like husband who gets to be a jerk because she’s a nag and he’s ‘funny.’”

The title and synopsis are clearly inspired by “Kevin Can Wait,” the CBS sitcom that starred Kevin James as a bumbling husband and Erinn Hayes as his very understanding wife. Then, her character was unceremoniously killed off after Season 1. The show was eventually canceled after Season 2.

AMC has not yet given a greenlight to the series. Instead, it has opened a writers’ room, a new development process at the network. The same thing goes for “Rainy Day People,” a new drama from “Halt and Catch” fire creators Chris Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers. Set in a wellness center-style mental health and rehab facility, the workplace drama will focus on both the patients and the family and staff who have run the center in its various incarnations for the past 50 years.
