  • Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ Moves Earlier Due to ‘Avengers’ Release Date Change

Dwayne Johnson is going to “Rampage” a little earlier than planned.

Disney’s decision to move “Avengers: Infinity War” from May 4 to April 27 is having a domino effect. Now, Johnson’s action flick will be released on April 13, one week earlier. Warner Bros wanted to retain a two-week cushion between “Rampage” and the Marvel movie.

“Rampage” is based on the 1980s arcade game. Johnson plays a primatologist who has a deep connection with a gorilla he raised from birth named George. But then George, a crocodile, and a wolf are exposed to a genetic compound and grow to enormous size and proceed to, well, rampage across North America. Johnson and a genetic engineer (Naomie Harris) race to find an antidote and save the world.

It’s rare for big tentpole movies to change dates so late in the game. Disney’s public reasoning for the “Avengers” shift is so that the movie can open worldwide on the same day. It’s also likely that the studio wanted more room between “Avengers” and the next tentpoles, “Deadpool 2” (May 18) and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (May 25).

  • New ‘Rampage’ Trailer Pushes Dwayne Johnson to Save the World (Again)

The Rock is ready to roll and save humankind once again.

Warner Bros. dropped a new trailer for “Rampage,” a movie based on the 1980s arcade game. Dwayne Johnson stars as a primatologist who has a deep connection with a gorilla he raised from birth named George. But then George is exposed to a genetic compound and he, a crocodile and a wolf all grow to enormous size and proceed to, well, rampage.

These new apex predators battle each other for supremacy, tearing across North America and destroying everything in their path. It’s up to Johnson and a genetic engineer (Naomie Harris) to find an antidote and save the world.

The trailer looks pretty much like Johnson’s other action thrillers. As usual, he’s a fairly ordinary guy who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances. Luckily, he has the physique to handle them.

“Rampage” also stars Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and opens in theaters April 20.

  • ‘Rampage’ Trailer Sets up Dwayne Johnson to Save the World Once Again

The world needs a hero again, so naturally, Dwayne Johnson is leading the charge.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the official “Rampage” trailer Thursday, just a day after unveiling new photos from the upcoming film. Not surprisingly, the preview is an action-packed and intense two-and-a-half minutes; it features genetically-altered beasts, destruction, and both mistakes and heroics.

Thanks to the trailer, we see how three regular animals — a gorilla, a wolf, and a crocodile — become mutants. We also meet primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson) and discredited genetic engineer Dr. Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris), both of whom end up trying to save the creatures and all the people they are poised to harm. As if those stakes weren’t high enough already, we witness the bond between Davis and the gorilla, George.

    Watch the trailer below.

The film is directed by Brad Payton and also stars Malin Ackerman, Joe Manganiello, Jake Lacy, Marley Shelton, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

    “Rampage” hits theaters April 20.

  • See Dwayne Johnson’s Bloody ‘Rampage’ Set Photo & Hilarious ‘Dodgeball’ Video

'Baywatch' Photo Call In Berlin“F*ck you, Jar Jar Binks!”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spent Independence Day at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, but the day before, he was hard at work getting #BloodiedAndBattered on the set of “Rampage.” And before that, he was hard at work getting hilariously ridiculous to support Ben Stiller’s “Dodgeball” charity campaign.

The “Rampage” movie, based on the 1986 video game, has been filming since the first week of May for its April 2018 release date. Johnson shared a set photo on July 3, to show off his (and the crew’s) hard work even during a long holiday weekend:

Back on May 2, to kick off the first day of production, Johnson posted the first photo and details about the film:

“In our story we have three animals who fall victim to evil genetic editing, rapidly changing every strand of their DNA so they grow, evolve and mutate. Everything becomes amplified.. their size, strength, speed, agility.. and violent aggression.
One of the animals infected – a rare Albino gorilla named, George, is my best friend.
George, is played by 6’9 Jason Liles, pictured here. Jason has been studying gorillas for months now preparing for this motion capture role. Gorillas movements, body language, and all emotions – joy, pain, sadness, love, aggression etc. It’s insane when you get around this man and how he’s able to embody a gorilla. This is the most fascinating advanced VFX/motion cap process I’ve ever worked with in my career.
We have the best mo-cap team in the world (WETA Digital) working on our RAMPAGE MONSTERS and you’ll get a taste of this new technology in the upcoming WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES as well as James Cameron’s AVATARS.
With all the cool advanced technology in our movie, the #1 thing you’re gonna experience when you watch it, is FUN.
Because when my best friend, George no happy, then me no happy. And when me no happy.. bad people become our lunch.”

“Rampage” also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It’s scheduled for release April 20, 2018.

The Rock also spent part of his weekend showing off a pitch-perfect (but R-rated, for f-bombs) promo for Ben Stiller’s “Dodgeball” reunion project:

The Rock shared more “Dodgeball” related videos on his Insta, so check them out.

  • Dwayne Johnson Gets Ready for ‘Rampage’; Shares New Plot Details

ENTERTAINMENT-US-CINEMA-THE FATE OF THE FURIOUSDwayne Johnson is “goin’ primal” in Georgia.

The wrestler-turned-actor is busy working on the Warner Bros. action flick “Rampage,” and apparently getting ready to shoot put him in the sharing mood. Until now, little was known about the film’s storyline, but that changed this weekend. Johnson revealed a more detailed description of his role and the plot in a new Instagram post.

The movie sounds kind of like a cross between “King Kong,” “Jurassic World,” and even “Monkey Trouble.” In it, Johnson’s character is the head of an anti-poaching unit in Rwanda, and he gets mad when some bad people infect his best friend — a gorilla named George — and other animals with a serum that makes them grow quickly and become aggressive. The result is a rampage that actually puts the world at risk, so Johnson’s character decides to hunt down the people responsible.

Goin’ primal. ???? Good to finally have boots on the ground here in Georgia for production of #RAMPAGE. I head up an anti poaching unit out of Rwanda. My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named, George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world. George not happy. Me not happy. When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they kill you. I will hunt down the bad people who did this to my best friend. And when I find them, I will not lick them. We have the best VFX monster making team (WETA) on the planet. Our actors and crew have been working very hard to raise the monster genre bar. As always, let’s have some fun. Let’s shoot. ???????? #PrimalDNA #George #Lizzy #Ralph #RAMPAGE

  • Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ Taps ‘Walking Dead’ Villain Jeffrey Dean Morgan

AMC presents 'Talking Dead Live' for the premiere of 'The Walking Dead'“Walking Dead” character, Negan, and take on a part that doesn’t involve carrying around a barbed wire-wrapped bat called Lucille.

The actor has nabbed a supporting role in “Rampage,” an upcoming film based on the 1980s arcade game, Deadline reports. The move makes him part of a star-studded ensemble cast that also includes Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, and Joe Manganiello, among others.

It sounds like Morgan might get to be on the side of the good guys this time, though we’re just guessing at this point. He’ll play the swaggering Agent Russell, a member of the secret government division OGA. Plot details are still limited, but the gist of the story is that the military will have to take on three giant monsters rampaging around North America. Maybe he’ll need Lucille after all.

“Rampage” is expected to hit theaters on April 20, 2018.

  • Carlton Cuse on ‘The Strain’ Season 3, ‘Jack Ryan,’ and the Status of His ‘Rampage’ Movie

He’s already a multi-hyphenate in Hollywood, and now “The Strain’s” executive producer-writer-showrunner Carlton Cuse can slip “director” into his preamble as well.

The prolific and now legendary behind-the-scenes force, whose touch has guided such TV favorites as “LOST” and “Bates Motel,” stepped into the director’s chair for the first time for the FX series he developed from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan‘s series of horror novels, which returns for its third season on Aug. 28.

During a chat with reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, Cuse revealed the enlightening aspect of playing auteur and shared details about the Jack Ryan series he has in the works with Amazon, including how star John Krasinksi will bring a lighter touch to novelist Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst.

You can now add directing to your resume. How did that come about?

Carlton Cuse: It finally felt like it was time to have that experience. I resisted it because I felt like as a showrunner I was able to make all of the creative decisions that I was able to make, but then there just came the point where I thought it was an important experience to have.

I felt like “The Strain” was the perfect environment. I love the cast, the show is very visual, it’s a really challenging episode. It was just this impulse that finally struck me. It was a real learning experience despite sitting at the right hand of directors for over 400 hours of television. I really felt like I had a different perspective and I learned a lot.

I think it will help me going forward in my relationship with prepping other directors and just my general knowledge of being a filmmaker. The process for me is about learning and trying to get better and improve my craft and know more and that was part of my journey for me was to actually direct.

Did Guillermo del Toro give you any tips?

Guillermo was super supportive. I talked to a bunch of different directors. Michelle MacLaren was like, “Get used to standing a lot!” She had a lot of other good pointers for me. She’s a friend and was very helpful. Greg Yaitanes, who was the producing director on “House” as well as “Banshee,” was helpful; Guillermo was helpful. It was great to see directors whom I had worked with really help me. I really loved the experience.

    What episode did you direct?

It’s the season finale — no pressure at all! It is a huge deal, but I feel like you should challenge yourself and do things that make you feel a little scared. You should push yourself out to a place to where you at least feel a little nervous. I think with that comes good work and really meaningful.

It was an entirely different relationship with the crew. I’m not a real “set rat” as a showrunner. I don’t spend a lot of time on set, so to go from casually visiting to being there 14 hours a day was a transition that was really lovely with the actors, to have that experience to really work with them and help shape their performance and for them.

They really loved the fact that I was coming in as an authority figure as opposed to visiting directors who sometimes will go from show to show, and they don’t know as much about the show as the actors do. They were like, “Gosh it’s so great to work with you because you really know the characters and know the context for everything that’s happening here.”

Did you worry about the last shot of the season more than usual?

I remember waking up, like, the second night of prep and realizing my writer’s brain is transferring into a director’s brain. I was thinking through the puzzle of how I was going to take these scenes that Chuck and I wrote for the finale. People talk about how when they learn a foreign language and then they start dreaming in Spanish or whatever. I started dreaming in “director.”

Could you fully tie this series up in four seasons?

Anything is possible, but it’s just too early to be definitive about it. We are definitely moving towards an ending and that’s great. That’s the way it should be.

Can you talk about your latest show, “Jack Ryan”?

We have John Krasinski cast as Jack Ryan. We’re working on the scripts and I’m super excited about it. I think it’s going to be a really, really cool show … We’re moving forward on all fronts. We’re getting the scripts in shape and coming up with a production plan.

John was your top pick for the role. Can you elaborate on why you wanted him?

Who better? There was kind of a high level of difficulty. When I took this project on with Graham Roland I said, “Here’s the risk. We’ll work on the script, but if we don’t get the right guy, there’s no reason to make the show.” Krasinski was the first guy that really came into our minds. We had seen him in “13 Hours” and he got jacked up for that movie. He looks fantastic.

The character needs to be cerebral and also physical. Then John has the extra added benefit of being funny and that’s something that I think has not been fully realized in the other incarnations of the character. So that seemed like a really good opportunity was to bring his particular brand of humor to this iteration of Jack Ryan.

So we’ll be seeing a funnier Jack Ryan?

Oh, for sure! It would be a waste of John’s talents as an actor to not take advantage of the fun that he’s a funny, charming guy.

What’s the update on your screenplay for “Rampage,” with Dwayne Johnson?

We did a draft and they seem super enthusiastic about it at New Line — I think that’s a great question for the producer! Last I heard they were trying to work out schedule and budget. Dwayne’s obviously an incredibly busy guy. He’s just the best. What you see is what you get. It’s just a real honor to be in a position to write movies for him. I love what he does.

What do you think you and Ryan Condal brought to the story, and were you guys fans of the video game?

Yeah, I was a huge video game junkie in the ’70s and ’80s, so it was fun to go back and that do. I think we tried to bring real character and humanity to a story that is basically about giant rampaging creatures.

That’s a delicate balancing act. Sometimes these big sort of disaster movies seem easy, but they’re very hard to construct well. We try to bring some narrative logic and some character development and yet not lose sight of the fact that it’s meant to be a good, fun, popcorn movie.
