Rachel McAdams in Talks for ‘Wedding Crashers’ Reunion in Netflix’s ‘Eurovision’

    New Line Cinema

A “Wedding Crashers” reunion is in the works, with Rachel McAdams in talks to join director David Dobkin and co-star Will Ferrell for Netflix’s “Eurovision.”

Deadline reports the actress is set to reteam with Dobkin, who helmed the 2005 comedy, and Ferrell, who had a small role in it.

The project is set around The Eurovision Song Contest – the longest running annual international TV song competition. Former winners include ABBA (1974 for Sweden) and Celine Dion (1988 for Switzerland).

The contest started in 1956 with seven western European nations. Last year’s edition had 43 countries competing. At the finale in Lisbon last year, Israel was named the winner with the song “Toy” performed by Netta.

Ferrell co-wrote the script with Andrew Steele and is also producing, as is frequent collaborator Adam McKay.

McAdams most recently appeared in “Game Night” last year.

14 Things You Never Knew About ‘Mean Girls’ on its 15th Anniversary

    Paramount Pictures

For a movie all about the awful ordeal that is high school, “Mean Girls” is still a surprisingly fun way to spend a couple hours. As this beloved comedy celebrates its 15th anniversary, here are some fun facts you might not know about the making of “Mean Girls” and the sequels we may or may not ever see.

    1. Writer Tina Fey based the screenplay on her personal experiences in high school and on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 self-help book “Queen Bees and Wannabes.”

    2. Lindsay Lohan originally read for the part of Regina George, but eagerly agreed to play Cady Horn instead after fearing playing the villain might harm her reputation.

    Paramount Pictures

    3. Meanwhile, Amanda Seyfried, (who made her film debut in “Mean Girls”) was originally cast as Cady, but producer Lorne Michaels felt she fit the role of Karen better.

    4. Despite playing the mother to Rachel McAdams‘ character Regina, Amy Poehler is only seven years older than McAdams.

    5. The reason Tim Meadows‘ Mr. Duvall is shown to have carpal tunnel syndrome is because Meadows was recovering from a broken hand during filming.

    6. Lizzy Caplan‘s character is named Janis Ian in tribute to the musician of the same name, who also happened to be the very first musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”

    7. While Regina, Karen and Gretchen are known by all their classmates as “The Plastics,” they never actually refer to themselves by that name in the movie.

    Paramount Pictures

    8. The 2009 Mariah Carey song “Obsessed” was inspired by Regina’s line, “Why are you so obsessed with me?”

    9. Several sexually charged lines in the movie had to be altered in order to maintain a PG-13 rating. For example, when questioned about her virginity, Cady was originally asked “Is your cherry popped?” instead of “Is your muffin buttered?”.

    Paramount Pictures

    10. There have been multiple “Mean Girls” video games, including a PC game released in 2009 and an iOS game released in 2015.

    11. October 3 has been labeled “National Mean Girls Day” by fans.

    12. ABC Family debuted a made-for-TV sequel called “Mean Girls 2” in 2011. Despite the title, the movie is more remake than sequel, and Mr. Duvall is the only character to return.

    Freeform

    13. Lohan has campaigned for a direct sequel  and even written a story treatment that includes roles for Jamie Lee Curtis and Jimmy Fallon.

    14. WB and New Line were also developing a spinoff called “Mean Moms,” with Jennifer Aniston in talks to star back in 2014. Unfortunately, the project seems to have fallen into development hell.

‘Mean Girls’: The Internet Has Found Regina George’s Actual Doppelganger

We all thought Regina George from “Mean Girls” was one of a kind, but it turns out she has a doppelganger.

The look-alike in question is Clarisse Muller, a teen beauty queen from Namibia. She bears an uncanny resemblance to Rachel McAdams‘s queen bee character, and people are seriously freaking out. There’s been a frenzy of “Mean Girls” memes, quotes, and general expressions of shock.

Muller came to the internet’s collective attention when the Namibian teen magazine Afterbreak wrote a profile on her. The magazine posted her photo on Twitter, and people couldn’t believe their eyes. And rightfully so — look:

We’re right there with them. Muller looks like she could be subbed into one of the “Mean Girls” posters without anyone noticing a difference.

    The tweets were hilarious.

The photo caught so much attention that Afterbreak’s website crashed. The magazine had to tweet about the crash and ask people for their patience.

    So fetch.

  • 6 Things You Need to Know Before Seeing Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get even bigger, as “Doctor Strange” marks the big-screen debut of the Sorcerer Supreme.

Benedict Cumberbatch dons a cool cloak and even cooler facial hair to play the latest Avenger to get a live-action origin story. Before heading to the theater, check out our list of the six essential things you need to know about Marvel’s newest cinematic hero.

    1. Marvel Has a Very “Harry Potter-y” Side
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding beyond the traditional boundaries of what moviegoers expect from superhero movies. 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” opened up the cosmic side of the MCU, and now “Doctor Strange” is peeling back the curtain on the Multiverse, full of magical spells, almost-supernatural beings, and very, very Dark Arts.

This is Marvel’s biggest leap since “Thor.” Can the world of magic mesh with a universe where nearly every hero’s powers have been based on science? That’s one question “Strange” will have to answer. Along the way, expect many (and we mean many) psychedelic displays of power and general weirdness as Strange and his allies explore the the other planes of reality beyond the one we know.

    2. It’s an Origin Story
Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE..Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)..Photo Credit: Film Frame ..©2016 Marvel. All Rights Reserved.“Doctor Strange” is best described as a mash-up of the first Iron Man movie, with a strong dose of 2005’s “Batman Begins.”

Like the former, it’s an origin story about a rich, arrogant man suffering a violent tragedy that sets him on the path to learning humility and putting his talents to more noble use. Like “Begins,” that hero’s journey requires Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to travel the globe as he seeks enlightenment and trains to become a superhero.

Based on early reviews, fans can expect the movie to stick closely to Strange’s origin as established in the comics. We’ll see this brilliant surgeon succumb to a car accident ruins his invaluable hands. We’ll see him squander his fortune in a fruitless quest to heal himself. And we’ll see him cast aside his old life and become a “Master of the Mystic Arts” under the tutelage of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton).

    3. There Are Many Sorcerers
Strange won’t be the only one training at the Ancient One’s sanctuary.

The film will introduce several key players in the magical community, each of whom will react differently to the sudden appearance of this cocky, skeptical rookie. That group will include Wong (Benedict Wong) and Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

Interestingly, both characters look to be quite a bit different from the comic book source material. Wong (thankfully) isn’t Strange’s faithful manservant, but rather an accomplished sorcerer — and badass librarian with an interest in the musical stylings of… Beyonce. Because reasons.

And while Mordo is one of Strange’s main villains in the comics, he appears to be — for now an ally. Expect Mordo to find himself on the path to the “Dark Side” by the end of the movie.
Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE..Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor)..Photo Credit: Film Frame ..©2016 Marvel. All Rights Reserved. Also look for Rachel McAdams‘ Christine Palmer to play a major role as one of Strange’s few remaining ties to the mundane world. And, no, she does take on the mantle of Night Nurse in the MCU. For now, the only Night Nurse we have is that of Rosario Dawson‘s character Claire Temple on Netflix’s Marvel shows. (But both Christin and Claire have served as the Nurse in the comics.)

    4. The Big Bad Has a Score to Settle
Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE..Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen)..Photo Credit: Film Frame ..©2016 Marvel. All Rights Reserved. The film is also veering away from the source material by not emphasizing one of Strange’s main villains. While the demonic entity Dormammu has an influence on the plot, the main baddie driving the story is a minor one from the comics, Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen).

Kaecilius is another sorcerer who trained under the Ancient One, but he broke away from his mentor after having a philosophical disagreement over what role magic should have in the ordinary world. In the film, he also discovers the “dark” secret to the Ancient One’s immortality. Kaecilius’ goals are less world-domination based, and more, well, let’s just say he wants to kind of terra form the non-magical realm with more mystical elements. With a tragic backstory, expect this villain to be the first major test of Doctor Strange’s newly-acquired magical powers.

    5. Meet the Newest Avenger
Those who aren’t up to date on the Marvel Cinematic Universe needn’t worry about diving in with Doctor Strange. This is (largely) a standalone adventure, unlike more recent Marvel films.

However, the movie sets the stage for Strange’s ongoing role in the MCU. He was already mentioned by name in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” as someone Hydra considers to be a major threat.

Cumberbatch is set to shoot his role “Avengers: Infinity War” early next year. With the Avengers in shambles after the events of “Civil War,” Tony Stark has to find new recruits somewhere. And who better than a man who can bend reality and make the impossible happen?

    6. You Will Want to Stay for the End Credits
Only the fans love Marvel’s end-credits stings more than the studio does. And this time around, audiences will get two scenes. One helps set the stage for “Thor: Ragnarok” with some help from a certain Avenger, and the other, well, that sets the stage for (fingers crossed) a sequel to “Doctor Strange.”

Here’s opening the first movie casts a big enough spell on the box office to warrant more chapters.

    “Doctor Strange” hits theaters Friday.

  • Marvel’s Kevin Feige Talks Rachel McAdams Night Nurse Rumors

Marvel Studios Hall H PanelThere are so many fan theories surrounding the MCU that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige doesn’t have time to respond to them all, but thankfully, he does address some.

The exec has finally opened up about speculation that “Doctor Strange” character Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) will take on her own alter ego. Some fans expect she’ll become Night Nurse, a role from the comic books that involves tending to injured superheroes. It doesn’t seem like a huge stretch, after all. The Night Nurse comic book series focused on three roommates who worked at a New York City Hospital, and one of them was named Christine Palmer. The similarities extend to the movie character’s skill in healing, though she’s a doctor rather than a nurse.

When asked about the idea, Feige gave an interesting but perhaps not altogether surprising answer: “I will say that that story line does not play into the movie,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

That’s sort of a no, but it’s also not. His response only definitively tells us that Palmer won’t double as Night Nurse in “Doctor Strange”; however, plans could change beyond that.

Feige admitted as much himself. “It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that,” he said of the character’s future.

    And speculate we certainly will.

“Doctor Strange” opens on Nov. 4.

  • Here’s the First Mind-Bending ‘Doctor Strange’ Trailer With Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch gets a trippy (multiple) reality check in the first full trailer for “Doctor Strange,” another upcoming Marvel superhero movie. But unlike most other Marvel flicks, this one has a decidedly more psychedelic, mystical tone.

The trailer gives us the broad strokes of the story: Dr. Stephen Strange is a gifted surgeon whose hands become crippled in an accident. Then, he meets the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who reveals that this reality is “one of many.”Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' (2016) Official Trailer

Ever the doctor, Strange is skeptical at first. “I don’t believe in fairy tales about chakras or energy or the power of belief.” But after seeing some astonishing things — bending cityscapes, a la “Inception” — he’s begging to learn.

“Doctor Strange,” which also stars Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mads Mikkelson, hits theaters November 4.

  • 13 Times Regina George Was the Best Part of ‘Mean Girls’

    %Slideshow-341211%
Regina George is the high school queen bee to end all queen bees. She’s conniving, manipulative, gorgeous, and she has two fend purses and a Lexus. Who else could have huge holes in their tank top and turn it into a popular fashion trend? The endlessly entertaining former head of The Plastics, played to catty perfection by Rachel McAdams, is one of the reasons we love “Mean Girls” and quote it over and over and over. Here are 13 times Regina George was truly the best part of “Mean Girls.”

  • It’s Official: Rachel McAdams Confirms ‘Doctor Strange’ Role (But No Character Name Yet)

2015 Toronto International Film Festival - Jason Reitman's Live Read - Photo CallAfter months of speculation, Rachel McAdams has finally made her involvement in Marvel’s upcoming “Doctor Strange” flick official.

While appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, McAdams confirmed to TheWrap that she will indeed be starring in the flick. The site did not offer any additional details about McAdams’s role, though judging by Marvel’s penchant for secrecy in the past, it’s hardly surprising that McAdams wouldn’t reveal too much about her character just yet.

Still, her involvement in “Strange” had been rumored since early July, and the actress herself spilled the beans about her negotiations for the flick in an interview later that month. While we were hoping for a bit more intel from the chatty star at this point, it’s still at least nice to know that she has officially joined the Marvel family.

Screen Rant has some speculation about who she might play, and it boils down to two key love interests. The site breaks down the two characters as follows:

Clea, daughter of Prince Orini and mistress of the Dark Dimension, who becomes the pupil (and lover) of Strange after he takes on the title of Sorcerer Supreme. The character was introduced into Doctor Strange comic book mythology in 1964 and has been a key part of its mythos ever since. It’s also worth noting that Clea is also the niece of Dormammu, the demonic tyrant and natural enemy to Strange; Dormammu, in turn, is speculated to be the villainous character role that Hannibal) is being courted for in Derrickson’s movie.

Morgana Blessing, who in Doctor Strange comic book mythology (where she debuted in 1981) has varied from being a friend and foe to Strange, over the years. A longtime lover for Stephen Strange, the character also has connections to Baron Mordo (reportedly, the character Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing in Derrickson’s film), which have fueled rumors that she will be portrayed by McAdams in the MCU.

We’ll have to wait for official word from Marvel before we know for sure, but we’re excited to see her go toe-to-toe with titular star Benedict Cumberbatch.

“Doctor Strange” is due in theaters on November 4, 2016.
