Raging fires are easier to control than three unruly kids, as John Cena learns in the trailer for “Playing With Fire.”

Cena stars as a straight-laced fire superintendent whose elite team of expert firefighters (Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo and Tyler Mane) rescue three siblings from a wildfire.

Until their parents are found, the firefighters must take care of the kids, but quickly realize that no amount of training could prepare them for the challenge of babysitting. The firefighters have their lives, jobs and even their depot turned upside down as they  learn that kids are as wild and unpredictable as any fire.

This is definitely a family movie, featuring some light comedy mostly in the vein of slapstick and pratfalls. Cena puts his physicality to use as he takes spills and shots from the kids.

“Playing With Fire” opens in theaters November 8.

    Paramount

“Sonic the Hedgehog”s bump to 2020 means a number of other films are shuffling dates as well.

Paramount just moved up “A Quiet Place 2” from May 15, 2020 to March 20, 2020, so we’re getting the horror sequel more than two months earlier than expected. It’ll now be opening up against the biopic “I Still Believe,” starring K.J. Apa as Christian music star Jeremy Camp.

The studio is also moving family comedy “Playing With Fire” into “Sonic”‘s previous slot of November 8. The movie about “a crew of rugged fighters who meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids,” stars Judy Greer, John Cena, and John Leguizamo.

Last year, the studio’s “Instant Family” did decent business in that slot with a $14.5 million opening and $67.3 million in total domestic box office.

The cast of “Playing With Fire” has added one more to its number.

Judy Greer is set to star in the film, Deadline reports. She’ll play Dr. Amy Hicks, a character who happens to be the love interest of John Cena‘s character, John Carson. Cena’s casting was first reported in October.

The script was written by Matt Lieberman, and it is about three orphaned kids trying to stay together after discovering that they’ll be sent to separate foster homes. Andy Flickman is directing, and Broken Road is producing for Paramount Players. Matt Dines is overseeing the project for the studio, and Sean Robbins is also a producer.

Greer has been keeping very, very busy in both film and TV in recent years. She stars in the Showtime series “Kidding” opposite Jim Carrey and also voices the title character in the animated series “Let’s Go Luna!” On top of that, she had five films come out in 2018 alone — including “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and “Halloween” — and will appear in at least two in 2019.

A release date for “Playing With Fire” has not yet been announced.

John Cena‘s acting career is still burning bright.

The “Blockers” star is reportedly close to having another film lined up. He is nearing a deal for a role in the family comedy “Playing With Fire,” per Variety’s sources. The publication reports that he’d star in the film.

The comedy centers on a group of tough firefighters who rescue three kids. The young ones are apparently quite the handful, meaning the adults will apparently “meet their match” when they end up in charge of them. The story comes from Dan Ewen, and Paramount Players hired Matt Lieberman to rewrite it, according to Variety.

This film is one of many that Cena, a former wrestler, has added to his resume in recent years. He most recently starred in “Blockers,” and he’ll soon be seen in the Transformers spinoff “Bumblebee,” which stars Hailee Steinfeld. Some of his other credits include both “Daddy’s Home” movies, “The Wall,” and “Sisters.”

A timeline for “Playing With Fire” has yet to be announced.
