Disney Reveals Full ‘Mandalorian’ Cast, Including Giancarlo Esposito, Werner Herzog

    AMC

The upcoming live-action “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” has officially unveiled its full cast. And while several names should already sound familiar, the ensemble also includes some impressive — and frankly, a bit odd — surprises.

Lucasfilm revealed the lineup on Wednesday, confirming that Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones,” “Narcos”) would be playing the titular character, a lone gunfighter on the outer reaches of the galaxy. Other previously announced stars that have been confirmed include Hollywood legend Nick Nolte, and former MMA fighter Gina Carano (“Deadpool”).

The rest of the cast features Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Emily Swallow (“Supernatural”), Carl Weathers (“Predator”), Omid Abtahi (“American Gods”), and Werner Herzog (“Grizzly Man”). That latter selection may be a bit head-scratching to those who only know Herzog from his directorial work, though the filmmaker has acted in several film and TV projects over the years. (Remember him as the oddball owner of the creepy house April and Andy buy in the final season of “Parks and Recreation”?) We’re definitely curious to see how he fits into the ensemble of this series.

“We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” said writer and executive producer Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “The Jungle Book”) in a statement.

“The Mandalorian” is set in between the events of “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens.” Episodes will be directed by Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Deborah Chow (“Jessica Jones”), Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”), Bryce Dallas Howard (“Solemates”), and Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok”).

The series is in production now. Expect “The Mandalorian” to debut on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, sometime in late 2019.

  • ‘Triple Frontier’ Trailer Teams Up Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam for a Heist

‘Triple Frontier’ Trailer Teams Up Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam for a Heist

    Netflix

    Talk about a dream team.

Netflix released the trailer for “Triple Frontier,” and the star-studded cast list will make your jaw drop: Ben AffleckOscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal.

They play former Special Forces operatives who reunite for a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. And though they’re used to carrying out dangerous missions, this one is solely for self-gain. But when events take an unexpected turn, their loyalties and moral code are pushed to a breaking point.

The film is directed by Oscar nominee J.C. Chandor (“A Most Violent Year,” “All Is Lost”) and co-written by Chandor and Oscar winner Mark Boal (“The Hurt Locker”). It was originally intended as a vehicle for Kathryn Bigelow after “The Hurt Locker,” with Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy eyed for roles, but the project didn’t come together at the time.

“Triple Frontier” will premiere on Netflix in March 2019.

  • ‘The Mandalorian’ to Star ‘Game of Thrones’ Alum Pedro Pascal

‘The Mandalorian’ to Star ‘Game of Thrones’ Alum Pedro Pascal

    HBO

Pedro Pascal is moving from Westeros to a galaxy far, far away.

The “Game of Thrones” alum is set to star in Disney’s upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff series, “The Mandalorian.” According to Variety, Pascal’s name had been in the conversation over who to cast as the show’s lead for quite some time; now, he’s officially on board. (Disney, however, has not made any announcement or comment about the casting just yet.)

“The Mandalorian” follows the exploits of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy (we’re assuming that’s the role that Pascal will be playing), and takes place after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The splashy series is set to be one of the cornerstones of Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, and as such features an all-star creative team led by Jon Favreau (who wrote the series and will executive produce) and directors Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”), Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taika Waititi.

We can’t wait to watch the electric Pascal shine in the “Star Wars”-verse. Here’s hoping he gets to wear even more power suits.

  • Awesome ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Cast Photo Perfectly Recreates ‘The Breakfast Club’ Pose

Awesome ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Cast Photo Perfectly Recreates ‘The Breakfast Club’ Pose

    The Breakfast Club
    Amazon

The Breakfast Club” came out in early 1985, but it was set on Saturday, March 24, 1984.

The sequel to “Wonder Woman” is called “Wonder Woman 1984,” and it too is set in 1984.

And now we can match DC’s “Wonder Woman 2” stars to their respective “Breakfast Club” characters. We have achieved Peak Geek!

“Wonder Woman 2” once again stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Joining her this time are Kristen Wiig as villain Barbara Ann Minerva / Cheetah,  Pedro Pascal as Not Sure Yet (possibly Maxwell Lord), and — somehow — Chris Pine returning as Steve Trevor.

Director Patty Jenkins posed with them for a “Breakfast Club” tribute that was reportedly posted by Pedro Pascal before he deleted it. But the Internet saves everything, so here it is:

  • New ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Photo Features Pedro Pascal and His ‘Power Hair’

New ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Photo Features Pedro Pascal and His ‘Power Hair’

    Warner Bros.

Several photos from the upcoming ’80s-set “Wonder Woman” sequel have already hit the world wide web, and the latest image puts a mysterious new character in the spotlight.

Just who he is or how he factors into the plot of “Wonder Woman 1984” is currently unknown, but he’s played by Pedro Pascal, the scene-stealing star of TV shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Narcos,” and films including “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” and “The Equalizer II.” And according to director Patty Jenkins, who shared the snap on Twitter, Pascal is similarly intoxicating in this key role — whatever that may be.

“Can’t…Stop… Watching… !!!” Jenkins captioned the photo of the actor (presumably captured on a playback monitor during production, based on the TV screen outline in the frame). Pascal is nearly unrecognizable, sporting a very ’80s three-piece suit and matching tie and pocket square; some seriously shellacked hair finishes the look.

Pascal himself joked about that goofy combo, sharing the same photo on Instagram with the comment, “Power suit. Power hair.” Power hair indeed.

We can’t wait to see what Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), who has some similarly luxurious locks, has to say about this look. We’re going to give Diana Prince the edge here when it comes to comparing their fashion choices.

In addition to Pascal, Kristen Wiig is also joining the ensemble, playing Barbara Minerva, a.k.a. the villain Cheetah. They round out the pack that includes Gadot and fellow returnee Chris Pine (whose presence we’re very eager to have explained).

All will hopefully be revealed when “Wonder Woman 1984” hits theaters on November 1, 2019.

  • Why Halle Berry Was Initially a ‘Little Snobby’ About Kingsman

Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal from Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal from Kingsman: The Golden Circle

When director Matthew Vaughn asked Halle Berry to play a tech whiz in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” she thought somebody got their wires crossed.

“I was shocked that Matthew would think of me,” Berry tells Made in Hollywood reporter Patrick Stinson. “Would you think to cast me in a part like that? What I love about it is to have this woman, this black woman, African American woman who is the brains behind the operation is very forward thinking because I’m not sure very many people would put a woman of color in that role. So I think it was pretty cool.

But this former Bond girl wasn’t always so upbeat about the stylized spy movie franchise when the first installment, “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” hit theaters.

“I come from the Bond world,” says Berry, who memorably emerged from the ocean in an orange bikini in “Die Another Day” in 2002. “So when I first heard about this ‘Kingsman’ trying to be like Bond, I was a little snobby about it.”

But once she saw the film she was hooked. “I thought: Wow, it is fresh,” she recalls. “‘Kingsman’ sort of puts a new life into this age-old story of the English gentlemen and their wry humor. I just loved it.”

Berry plays one of the American handlers of Taron Egerton in this action-filled sequel that returns dapper Colin Firth, seemingly from the dead, and introduces Julianne Moore as the villain and Pedro Pascal as a cowboy with a high-tech whip.

Now that Berry’s got to swing with the Kingsmen, will she be back for a third movie?

“I’m ready. My character’s definitely ready,” she says. “I see some knives in her future.”
