Another original “Halloween” character is coming back, but a new actor will take over the role in the next installment in the horror franchise.

Anthony Michael Hall has been cast as Tommy Doyle, Variety reports. He’ll star alongside Jamie Lee Curtis as the grown-up version of the bogeyman-fearing boy she babysat the night Michael Myers went on his chilling 1978 rampage. The role was first played by Brian Andrews.

As a follow-up to 2018’s “Halloween,” the upcoming movie will ignore the sequels that came before it, including 1995’s “Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.” In that film, Paul Rudd played Tommy. Another version of the character was portrayed by Skyler Gisondo in 2007’s “Halloween.” Hall’s Tommy is part of a script that director David Gordon Green and Danny McBride will co-write.

While this is Hall’s first film in the famed horror franchise, he’s had a long and notable career. He has starred in classics such as “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Breakfast Club,” and more. More recently, he was seen in the films “Bodied” and “War Machine” as well as the series “Murder in the First.”

“Halloween Kills” will lead to more scares; another sequel, “Halloween Ends,” will shoot directly after. The two films are set to open on Oct. 16, 2020 and Oct. 15, 2021, respectively.

The two-time Academy Award nominee posted the first look via Instagram on Monday, and it explains how the project came to be as well as offers hints of what to expect. Jessica Chastain recounts how she was working with “355” director Simon Kinberg on “Dark Phoenix” and she got the idea to do an action film with a female ensemble cast.

“I called all the actresses and we are the studio,” she says in the video. “Everyone owns the film. And now we’re making it.”

“All the actresses” includes some uber talented women. Chastain stars alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Fan Bingbing. They all appear in the new footage, and it looks like they’re very hard at work. There are shots of the actresses engaging in target practice, boxing training, and more. Watch below.

The female-fronted international spy thriller “355” now has a representative from Germany, with actress Diane Kruger joining the star-studded ensemble.

Variety has the scoop that Kruger has signed on for the flick, which also features Jessica ChastainLupita Nyong’oPenelope Cruz, and Fan Bingbing. Simon Kinberg (who directed Chastain in the upcoming “Dark Phoenix”) is helming the project, and co-wrote the script with Theresa Rebeck.

“I’m so ecstatic to have an actress of her caliber to round out this extraordinary cast,” Kinberg said of Kruger’s casting.

No details about her character, or any of the others, has been revealed yet, but the film revolves around a group of female spies representing various international espionage agencies from across the globe. Here’s the breakdown of the plot, according to Variety:

These women must bond together, overcoming their suspicions and conflicts, to use all their talents and training to stop an event from occurring that could thrust our teetering world into chaos. Along the way, these strangers and enemies become comrades and friends, and a new faction is formed – code-named “355” (a name they adopt from the first female spy in the American Revolution).

The red-hot project was first announced at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it was quickly snapped by. Chastain said at the time that she and Kinberg envisioned the film launching a new franchise, and with this latest high-profile casting, it seems that this project is well on its way to some major success.

No word yet on a production or release schedule. Stay tuned.
