  • ‘Wilderness’ Series Trailer

We’re more used to seeing Jenna Coleman either running around with Matt Smith (and later Peter Capaldi) in classic British sci-fi series ‘Doctor Who’ or dealing with ruling a country as a young woman in ‘Victoria’.

Bur what if she’s a wife who is cheated on by her husband? New Prime Video series ‘Wilderness’ offers the chance to see her playing a character in just such a dilemma. One who, from the evidence of this, is not ready to forgive or forget…

    What’s the story of ‘Wilderness’?

Based on B.E. Jones’ novel of the same name, ‘Wilderness’ features British couple Liv (Coleman) and Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) who seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage; a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown; and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them.

Until Liv learns about Will’s affair.

Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion: fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around some of America’s most beautiful vistas to give their relationship a fresh start (and a hedonistic weekend in Las Vegas as their ultimate destination), Liv knows just how to get it… For Will, it’s a chance to make amends, for Liv, it’s a very different prospect — a landscape where accidents happen all the time.

Whilst in the epic American National Parks, the couple bump into Will’s colleague Cara (Ashley Benson), a young American woman with a glittering career and an adoring boyfriend, Garth (Eric Balfour). Liv’s best-laid plans are wrecked and, as the foursome go hiking together, Cara and Garth soon find themselves enmeshed in Will and Liv’s lives in a way that will change the course of all their future’s forever.

Alongside the leads, the cast includes Marsha Stephanie Blake, Jake Foy, Vanessa Walsh, Geoff Gustafson, Talia Balsam, Natalie Sharp, Crystal Balint and Morgana Van Peebles.

The new series comes from Marnie Dickens, who has worked on shows such as ‘Ripper Street’, ‘The Musketeers’ and ‘Gold Digger’, with Elizabeth Kilgarriff (a veteran of buzzy shows such as ‘Luther’, ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Poldark’) as executive producer.

So Yong Kim, the director behind movies including ‘For Ellen’ and ‘Lovesong’ and series such as ‘Dr. Death’, ‘Tales from the Loop’ and ‘Roar’, oversaw all six episodes.

This first look at the show is also noticeable for featuring the first chance to hear ‘Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)’, the latest re-imagined track from musical superstar Taylor Swift, currently selling out stadiums on her national ‘Eras’ tour.

Here’s series creator/book adaptor Dickens on the show:

“Who doesn’t know someone who’s been cheated on? That gut punch on discovery, the trail of paranoia and suspicion it leaves behind, the difficulty of trusting again. It’s enough to tip anyone over the edge. And that’s where we meet our heroine, Liv, as she’s lied to over and over by the man she loves. Of course, she wants revenge, and I, for one, hope she gets it.”

‘Wilderness’ lands on Prime Video globally on September 15th.

  • ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Star Oliver Jackson-Cohen Returning for ‘Haunting of Bly Manor’

‘Haunting of Hill House’ Star Oliver Jackson-Cohen Returning for ‘Haunting of Bly Manor’

    Netflix

Just days after landing the lead role in the reboot of “The Invisible Man,” Oliver Jackson-Cohen has booked a return trip to Netflix’s “Haunting of …” horror anthology series.

Jackson-Cohen will join his “Hill House” co-star Victoria Pedretti to appear in Season 2’s “Haunting of Bly Manor.”

Season 2 is inspired by Henry James’ psychological gothic horror novella “The Turn of the Screw,” which takes place almost entirely in an old country mansion. There, two young orphans are looked after by a young governess, who also narrates most of the novel.

Pedretti will play the governess. Jackson-Cohen will play Peter, described as “a charming fellow.” Carla Gugino is also in talks to return for Season 2.

It seems like creator Mike Flanagan is taking a page from Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” book and recycling his cast members from season to season.

“The Haunting of Bly Manor” is set to launch on Netflix in 2020.

Meet the new “Invisible Man” — Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

The “Haunting of Hill House” has landed the title role in Universal and Blumhouse’s reboot of the classic tale by H.G. Wells, which has inspired numerous film and television adaptations, including the 1933 black-and-white movie starring Claude Rains.

Director Leigh Whannell’s new reimagining also stars Elisabeth Moss, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge, and Harriet Dyer.

“The Invisible Man” reboot is a Blumhouse production, and Jason Blum has indicated it will have a low budget along the lines of the studio’s other hits like “Get Out” and “Us.”

“It’s not dependent on special effects, CGI, stunts,” he told Collider. “It’s super character-driven, it’s really compelling, it’s thrilling, it’s edgy, it feels new.”

“The Invisible Man” is the first venture in Universal’s fresh strategy for rebooting its monster classics. The studio had previously planned a shared universe with Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein, and others, but those plans were put on hold after the underwhelming response to Tom Cruise’s “The Mummy” in 2017.

Deadline reports that the filmmakers were “wowed” by Jackson-Cohen’s performance in Netflix’s horror anthology “Haunting of Hill House.”

Filming on “The Invisible Man” begins this summer in Australia.

  • ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Star Carla Gugino Might Return for ‘Bly Manor’

‘Haunting of Hill House’ Star Carla Gugino Might Return for ‘Bly Manor’

    Netflix

While we won’t be seeing The Crain family in the follow-up to “The Haunting of Hill House” — the second season will be called “The Haunting of Bly Manor” — we might see the return of Carla Gugino.

Gugino, who played the Crain matriarch in the first season, told The Wrap she’s “talking a lot” with series creator Mike Flanagan about coming back as a different character.

“Well, I can’t say anything definitive at this point, other than Mike and I really love collaborating and working together and any opportunity where a schedule allows for us to do that, we will, and I would be honored to,” she said. She also starred in Flanagan’s horror film “Gerald’s Game.”

“We’ll just see if all schedules allow,” Gugino said. “All I can say is I’m very excited for Season 2 and to see what Mike does.” She’s currently promoting the premiere of her new Cinemax series, “Jett.”

Fellow “Hill House” star Oliver Jackson-Cohen recently told The Wrap he’d “get shot” if he confirmed one way or another if he was coming back. Which sounds like a “yes” to us. Fingers crossed.

The second season will be based on Henry James’s horror novella, “The Turn of the Screw.” It inspired the eerie 1961 film “The Innocents,” in which Deborah Kerr played a governess at a remote house who fears the children she’s watching are possessed by evil spirits. Or is she just going mad…?

While Gugino could easily be taking on the governess role, there isn’t a character in the novella that would be right for Jackson-Cohen. But since Flanagan will be doing the same radical re-envisioning he did with Shirley Jackson’s novel, that’s a completely moot point.

  • About That ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Ending: Does This Theory Change Everything?

About That ‘Haunting of Hill House’ Ending: Does This Theory Change Everything?

    The Haunting of Hill House

One of the cast members of Netflix’s addictive horror series “The Haunting of Hill House” is talking about a tiny detail that might completely change our interpretation of the ending.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS if you haven’t finished watching the show.

    Netflix

Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who plays struggling addict Luke, made an eerie observation to The Wrap:  In the final episode, whenever we see red in a scene where something usually isn’t red, that means the characters are still in the Red Room. For example, Luke is usually wearing black Converse, but in the hotel room with his fellow addict, his shoes are now red. Sure enough, that was all a fantasy (or nightmare).

    Netflix

But what does it mean in the very final shot — where everyone is celebrating Luke’s 2 years of sobriety — that the cake is red? Does that mean that this is also a fantasy? That Luke really did die in the Red Room?

    Netflix

If you found the ending too upbeat — including Steve (Michiel Huisman) being back with his wife and (somehow) about to become a father — then this darker twist might make more sense. Especially since the final episode began with exactly the kind of too-happy fake-out we see in the last shot.

It was actually Kate Siegel (grown-up Theo, who’s also married to the show’s creator, Mike Flanagan) who pointed it out to Jackson-Cohen. “Um, she went, ‘The cake is red,” he recalled. “And on set I went, ‘Oh, my God!’ And she went, ‘I don’t know!’”

Jackson-Cohen then asked Flanagan, who also said, “I don’t know!” That leaves it up to the actor — and us — to decide how to interpret this one tiny detail: “I can’t tell whether or not I’m just crazy with this — or whether or not it’s something that could have legs.”

Either way, don’t expect to see any more of the Crain family.

Flanagan told EW he and the writers “toyed with a cliffhanger ending” to set up a second season. “Ultimately, in the writers’ room and with the cast and everything else, we really felt like the story demanded a certain kind of closure from us and we were happy to close the book on that family,” he said.

But was the family happy, Mike? Was the family happy or not?!
