  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Debuts Season 10 Trailer, Danai Gurira Announces Exit

‘The Walking Dead’ Debuts Season 10 Trailer, Danai Gurira Announces Exit

    AMC

The Walking Dead” Season 10 trailer premiered today at  San Diego Comic-Con, promising a Whisperers showdown and a potential hook-up between Michonne (Danai Gurira) and King Ezekiel (Khary Payton).

But even bigger news: Gurira confirmed at the panel that this will be her last season as Michonne. She told the audience:

“This has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and be amongst these people, and amongst all of you. I am very, very thankful for the experience I’ve had, in ways I can’t even express right now. My heart does not leave, the beauty of this show is that TWD family is forever. The connection between us never ends… It was about my calling in a sense and other things I feel called to and the opportunities I’ve had. All I’m filled with is a lot of pain about leaving and a lot of gratitude. I love you, and TWD Family is forever.”

As for what we can expect of her final season on TWD, here are the highlights from the trailer:

We see Carol  (Melissa McBride)and Alpha (Samantha Morton) face off, with Carol saying (if we heard this right): “Bitch has to die,” while Alpha says ominously, “You should fear. me.”

It also teases a long-in-the-works Neegan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) showdown and Daryl and Carol talking about riding off into the west together.

The trailer ends with Michonne wielding what looks like Negan’s barb-wire-wrapped bat. Who’s going to be on the receiving end of lethal Lucille this time?

Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd also announced two new cast members:

Thora Birch (last seen on “Colony”) will be playing a character named Gamma, a member of the Whisperers who is wildly protective of Alpha.

Kevin Carroll of “The Leftovers” and “Lucifer” will be playing Virgil, whom executive producer Gale Ann Hurd Hurd said encounters the group but is “desperately trying to get home to his family.” Good luck with that, Virgil.

Season 10 will debut on October 6.

AMC will kick off 10 weeks of “Walking Dead “season 10 reveals leading up to the premiere.

  • Michelle Rodriguez and Norman Reedus Made a VR Action Movie

    STX

Ever wanted to fight alongside badasses Michelle Rodriguez and Norman Reedus? Now you can.

The stars of “The Fast and the Furious” and “The Walking Dead” teamed up with “Desperado” director Robert Rodriguez for a VR action movie.

In “The Limit,” you play a rogue agent with a mysterious past who enlists the help of super-assassin M-13 (Michelle Rodriguez). Like Jason Bourne, you’ve got to retrieve your identity and defeat the organization that created you.

How intense does the action get? At one point in the trailer, she picks up the teeth you just had knocked out and advises you to pop them back in!

It looks a helluva lot better than the VR series starring John Travolta.

“The Limit” is a 20-minute action movie shot in a new VR format that’s wider than 180 degrees. It’s designed to bridge the gap between traditional, large-format filmmaking and newer 360-degree video.

It’s from STXsurreal, the VR studio for Robert Simonds’ STX Entertainment. They partnered with Academy Award-winning visual effects company DNEG.

This is the first in a series of upcoming live-action VR projects from the studio. Other upcoming projects include a “Jay and Silent Bob” project from Kevin Smith, a crime-thriller from “Den of Thieves” director Christian Gudegast, and an untitled Dave Bautista action-comedy.

“The Limit” is now available on VR Platforms, including Oculus, Steam, Samsung VR, Viveport, Google Daydream, Google Play and Apple iOS.

Michelle Rodriguez’s new heist film, “Widows,” just opened. Besides “The Walking Dead,” Reedus stars in “Ride With Norman Reedus.”

  • Two ‘Walking Dead’ Stars Sign Huge New Deals After Andrew Lincoln Exit

Two ‘Walking Dead’ Stars Sign Huge New Deals After Andrew Lincoln Exit

    AMC

“The Walking Dead” may no longer feature Rick Grimes, but Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier are sticking around for the foreseeable future.

After the high-profile departure of original star Andrew Lincoln (who’s next set to star in a series of “Walking Dead” spinoff TV movies), his fellow season one survivors Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride have just signed lucrative new deals that ensure they’ll stay on the show — or at least in the “TWD” universe — for at least three more years. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, AMC programming president David Madden explained that Reedus and McBride’s contracts are “franchise deals” that “allow [the network] the flexibility to either move them or use them in more than one place, depending on what seems creatively right.”

That means that Daryl and Carol could be starring in their own “TWD” films, their own spinoff series, or even be killed off of the flagship series any time over the next three years — but Reedus and McBride will get paid no matter what. Along with that flexibility, both actors are also getting significant pay bumps, with THR sources saying that Reedus will be making about $350,000 per episode, plus additional guarantees and advances, totaling an estimated $50-90 million over three years; McBride’s three-year deal is said to be worth about $20 million.

And they’re not the only ones getting a big payday: THR reports that Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne, is also negotiating for a new contract. Complicating matters is her rising star on the big screen, with a string of high-profile roles in films like “Black Panther,” which could pull her away from “TWD” sooner rather than later.

“We love Danai; we love that character. Right now, she’s got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her,” Madden told THR. “But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it. … The goal is to have Danai continue on whatever basis she can make work, given the other things that she has going on in her life.”

Raise your hand if you want a Michonne-centric spinoff flick. Here’s hoping AMC can work things out with the insanely talented Gurira.

  • Andrew Lincoln Makes List of World’s Highest-Paid TV Actors for Final ‘Walking Dead’ Season

Andrew Lincoln Makes List of World’s Highest-Paid TV Actors for Final ‘Walking Dead’ Season

    AMC

Andrew Lincoln has joined Forbes‘ list of the 10 highest-paid TV actors for the first time.

That time coincides with 1) his final season — only five episodes — of “The Walking Dead“; and 2) Kevin Spacey being dumped from “House of Cards.”

As Forbes noted, the only actor on the 2018 list to drop off the previous year’s ranking is Kevin Spacey, who was axed from his lead role of Frank Underwood in the final season of “House of Cards.”

It’s possible that if Spacey hadn’t been called out for so many alleged misdeeds, and filmed his final season, he would’ve taken Lincoln’s spot.

Apparently Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) made $11 million for his five episodes of “The Walking Dead” Season 9. Forbes suspects Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) will replace Andrew Lincoln on this list next year, since Reedus reportedly negotiated a raise to stay on after Lincoln leaves.

The ranking charts earnings from June 2017 to June 2018. Forbes said the 10 actors on this list made a combined $181 million, down from $185 million in the same period last year. It really is tough out there for men!

Most of these actors are familiar from making this list every year for their high-rated comedy series:

    The World’s Highest-Paid Actors 2018

    No. 10. Andrew Lincoln

    “The Walking Dead”

That list is going to break wide open once “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family” end. TBBT is ending after Season 12, so we’ll see how this ranking shakes up after that.

    CBS

“The Walking Dead” has long been the most-watched and highest-rated cable show, but it has taken MAJOR hits in the past couple of years. This year, so far, is TWD’s lowest-rated yet in that advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.

AMC has already revealed Andrew Lincoln’s final episode airs in early November. It’s possible the show will slide even further into ratings oblivion without him. Then again, the hardcore fans who watch every week seem to be sticking with it to the end. As long as they stick around, AMC may continue long into the double digit seasons.

  • Daryl Will Go ‘Rogue a Little Bit’ in ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8

Daryl Dixon has never been one to play by the rules on “The Walking Dead.” And when it comes to the all-out war in Season 8, he’s going rogue.

Actor Norman Reedus told Entertainment Weekly that Daryl will have his own agenda even as the Alexandrians, Hilltoppers, and Kingdom crew come together to fight the Saviours. “You know, some of us are going rogue a little bit — like myself,” he teased.

Daryl has not gotten over his time spent as a prisoner under Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) cruel thumb. And it’s payback time for the crossbow-wielding, motorcycle-riding maverick.

“He wants his s— back, and he wants to have revenge, and he’s really not listening,” Reedus said.

“He’s on a mission to do one thing, and sometimes for the good of the group, you veer left a little bit, and he’s still veering right.”

“The Walking Dead” Season 8 premieres Oct. 22 on AMC.

  • Norman Reedus Compares ‘Walking Dead’ Finale to ‘Braveheart’

Walking Dead“The Walking Dead” likes to end its seasons with a splash, and when season 7 concludes April 2, fans can expect to be wowed, shocked, and thrilled. But star Norman Reedus also says this season’s finale will be “completely different” from previous ones.

“It has similar elements, but it’s completely different,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And you know, there might be a little William Wallace in it.”

So does that mean we can expect an epic battle a la “Braveheart”? With a rousing speech from Rick to rally the factions that are going up against Negan and the Saviours?

Perhaps! The finale script did lead co-star Andrew Lincoln to do one of his patented jigs, so maybe Rick does channel William Wallace. Even Reedus got into the dancing mood. “I did the same thing when I read that one,” he admitted.

“The Walking Dead” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.

  • Norman Reedus Wants to Star in a ‘Ghost Rider’ Reboot

Norman Reedus, daryl, daryl dixon, walking dead, the walking dead“The Walking Dead” star Norman Reedus plays a motorcycle-riding badass on the AMC zombie drama, and he’s also a motorcycle-riding badass in real life, which he’ll showcase on a new reality series. But for his next role, Reedus wants to take that motorcycle-riding to a fiery new level.

In an interview with Uproxx promoting his new show, “Ride With Norman Reedus,” the actor was asked about the ultimate biking icon: Marvel hero Ghost Rider, who was brought to life on the big screen by Nicolas Cage in the eponymous 2007 flick, and its 2012 sequel, “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” There’s nothing official in the works yet, but Reedus — who’s a self-proclaimed fan of Cage’s “Ghost Rider” flicks — had an enthusiastic response to taking on the role of Johnny Blaze in a future reboot.

“Hell yeah,” Reedus told Uproxx of his interest in the hypothetical project. “It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? F–k yeah. I’m down.”

While it’s worth repeating that there is no such film in development just yet — and no one from Marvel has reached out to Reedus — it’s still a fun bit of speculation. As anyone who’s watched him on “The Walking Dead” can attest, he’s a magnetic onscreen presence; that he has the bike skills to back up the demands of the fiery superhero only further makes him a natural fit for the part. Here’s hoping the folks at Marvel are paying attention, and give the actor a call.
