    • Nick Jonas is boarding KISS biopic ‘Shout It Out Loud.’
    • McG is in the director’s chair.
    • Darren Lemke wrote the most recent draft of the script.

Last September, we brought the news that ‘Shout It Out Loud,’ the long-gestating music biopic of iconic rockers KISS had taken a big step forward, as ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and ‘Uglies’ director McG was making a deal to direct it.

Since then, he’s officially signed on and developed the movie further, and now Deadline brings word that singer/actor Nick Jonas will play a key role in the film, that of KISS lead singer Paul Stanley.

With the movie really starting to come together, the aim is now to kick off shooting either late this year or early in 2026, with Jonas given the time to train to perform Stanley’s trademark power vocals.

A key further element for the movie is tracking down a star who can appear as legendary bass player Gene Simmons.

Should you not already be aware of the glam-rockers, here’s a little history lesson…

KISS was formed in New York City by Stanley, Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in 1973. Known for their signature kabuki-style face paint and larger-than-life, pyrotechnic-filled performances, the band broke out with the 1975 live album “Alive!” which featured the anthem “Rock and Roll All Nite” and solidified their status as one of the era’s top acts.

The band’s most successful albums include “Destroyer,” “Love Gun,” “Alive II” and “Dynasty,” which produced hits including “Beth,” “Detroit Rock City” and “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.”

Frehley and Criss departed KISS decades ago, leaving Simmons and Stanley as the lone original members. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the band spent four years on the road for their farewell “End of the Road” World Tour, officially retiring after their final concert at Madison Square Garden in December.

Yet despite leaving the stage themselves, they’ve set up digital avatars which will continue to play virtual concert sets. And the group sold their music catalog, name, image and likeness to the Sweden-based Pophouse Entertainment in April last year, in a deal reportedly worth more than $300 million.

We now know a little more about the movie –– it’ll focus primarily on the group’s early formation in the 1970s.

Here’s what Stanley has said about his time before joining the band:

“I was deaf in one ear and had a slight deformity that made me look different. I was this short, fat kid, and music became my salvation, a place to hide and dream. And when I played music, there were always girls around.”

And here’s Simmons on what drew him from his life as a Hasidic Orthodox Jew from Israel to rock music:

“I remember walking out onto the street, seeing this Spanish girl jumping rope across the street, and staring at her long black hair slapping against this great butt. It occurred to me this was better than religion. How could I get near that?”

Where else have we seen Nick Jonas?

Jonas grew up on the Broadway stage in numerous musicals, including starring turns in ‘Les Misérables,’ ‘Hairspray’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,’ and he played singer Frankie Valli in ‘Jersey Boys Live.’

He’s best known in music circles as part of family band The Jonas Brothers. The group –– siblings Kevin and Joe among them—rose to fame in the mid-2000s. They gained popularity through the Disney Channel, starring in ‘Camp Rock’ and their own show ‘Jonas.’ Their early albums like “It’s About Time” and “A Little Bit Longer” were big commercial successes.

The band took a hiatus in 2013 to pursue solo projects but reunited in 2019 with the hit single “Sucker”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100. They released the comeback album “Happiness Begins” the same year. They’ve continued touring and releasing music since.

Yet Nick has also found time to build out his acting career, appearing in movies such as ‘Midway,’ ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Goat’ and ‘You’re Cordially Invited.’ He recently worked on ‘Power Ballad’ opposite Paul Rudd.

When will ‘Shout It Out Loud’? be in theaters?

Backers STX Entertainment haven’t yet set a release date for the movie, presumably holding off until more cast are announced.

  • ‘Jumanji’ Sequel to Bring Back Nick Jonas

‘Jumanji’ Sequel to Bring Back Nick Jonas

    Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
    Sony Pictures

The next “Jumanji” adventure is going to be full of familiar faces.

Several “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” stars have agreed to reprise their roles in the next film, and the latest is Nick Jonas, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The singer-slash-actor joins the sequel’s previously announced stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Furthermore, the actors who played their teen characters — Ser’Darius Blain, Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner — are also set to return.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” centers on a group of four teens who play the Jumanji video game and find themselves transported into its world and into the body of avatars. Jonas’s character is Alex, a man who has been trapped in the game for years in the body of an avatar named Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough. Plot details for the sequel haven’t been revealed, so we don’t know yet how he ties into the new story from writers Jake Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg.

In addition to all the returning stars in the upcoming “Jumanji” sequel, there will be franchise newcomers, too. Actors Awkwafina (“Crazy Rich Asians”), Donald Glover (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”), and Danny DeVito (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) are all joining for what Johnson has teased is “dynamite.”

It looks like it’s the more the merrier in the jungle.

  • Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Are Reportedly Engaged After Dating 2 Months, and Fans Are Reeling

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Are Reportedly Engaged After Dating 2 Months, and Fans Are Reeling

    Priyanka Chopra, Jimmy Kimmel
    ABC

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra reportedly got engaged last week in London on her 36th birthday.

That’s the scoop from People, with a source saying Jonas closed down a Tiffany store in NYC to buy her engagement ring.

Apparently Nick, 25, and Priyanka hit it off after meeting last year, but things started heating up after they met each other’s families. They only really started dating in May, and attended the Met Gala together. In June, the “Quantico” star met Jonas’ family at his cousin’s wedding in New Jersey.

Honestly, the most important part of this story is that Sophie Turner and Priyanka Chopra are now going to be sisters. This should be its own “Game of Thrones” spinoff.

Fans had many thoughts — about the short timeline of engagements these days, of Nick Jonas getting married, the death of their own dreams, etc:

Sorry, ladies! But congrats to the happy couple.

Here’s Priyanka talking to Jimmy Kimmel about going to the Met Gala with Nick Jonas — Jimmy asked if she was dating Nick, even though he’s only “11-years-old”:

Nick Jonas’ upcoming film “Chaos Walking” comes out March 1, 2019. Priyanka Chopra’s “Quantico” was canceled by ABC after three seasons. The “Baywatch” star was meant to be in the Indian film “Bharat,” but the director announced on Twitter that she would be leaving the project for a “very special” reason.

  • Nick Jonas Signs on for ‘Chaos Walking’ With Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland

Beyond LA Cocktail Party Benefiting Beyond Type 1Nick Jonas is ready for some chaos.

The singer-slash-actor has joined “Chaos Walking,” Variety reports. Jonas is in good company; the film’s cast also includes “Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame.

The upcoming sci-fi flick is an adaptation of Patrick Ness’s novel “Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go,” which is set in a dystopian world where all creatures can hear others’ thoughts as words, sounds, and images. When a boy named Todd finds a patch of silence, he and his dog have to flee. As they evade the people pursuing them, they are joined by a girl named Viola whom they encounter along the way.

We don’t know which character Jonas will play yet, but depending on the role, he could appear in multiple films, as “Chaos Walking” is part of a series. Jonas has seemed happy to take on more movie roles in recent years, though. His recent credits include “Careful What You Wish For” and “Goat,” plus the upcoming “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

The Doug Liman-directed film is slated to open March 1, 2019.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Stephen Colbert’s First ‘Late Show,’ Tina Fey’s Dubsmash, Rita Ora’s ‘Clickbait Song’

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Stephen! Stephen! Stephen! The crowd chanted for the new host on the premiere of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday, September 8. It was a big evening across late night, with only “Conan” on repeats and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” and “The Late Late Show With James Corden” all breaking out major guests. Here’s your competition, Stephen!

Colbert opened his show with a montage of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as sung by Stephen and guests across the country, including a cameo from Jon Stewart. The episode ended with a massive jam session with a bunch of musicians playing “Everyday People.” Stephen introduced his band, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, and they showed off the new “Late Show” intro and Ed Sullivan Theater.

Stephen only had two guests for the premiere, and his first guest, George Clooney, had no movie to promote, so they made one up: “Decision Strike.” We’d watch!
The second guest, Jeb Bush, complimented President Obama (kind of) and talked about how, as president, he’d bring people together — Democrats and Republicans. He also explained how he’s different from his brother George. Here’s a special online bonus clip with more detailed political answers from Jeb:
No late night episode is complete without shameless Donald Trump promotion, so here’s Stephen’s All You Can Trump Buffet, complete with Oreos — because Trump said he will never eat Oreos again. Stephen’s first show included a beautiful tribute to David Letterman, who retired from the “Late Show” earlier this year, plus a video cameo from Jimmy Fallon, whose “Tonight Show” airs at the same time (nice way to defuse any potential late night feud talk). Of all the current late night hosts, Colbert was probably closest to upbeat Fallon — without the games and gushing. (Stephen does need to work on letting the guests talk a bit more.)
“The Tonight Show” had Richard Gere, Jessica Simpson and Keith Urban. Jessica talked about her kids and how she always wears high heels. She even jet skis in heels, and they showed a photo. Richard got the crowd going — he wanted to join the band — but was more serious when talking about his feelings of isolation when playing a homeless man.
Over on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Jimmy featured the amazing Emily Blunt (his neighbor), who is now a U.S. citizen. She answered American trivia as part of a REAL U.S. citizenship test and discussed Josh Brolin’s pool party with his “Sicario” co-stars, including Benicio Del Toro who jumped into very cold water while wearing very thin cotton boxers.
Also on JKL, Rita Ora and Chris Brown performed “Body On Me,” and Jimmy decided Rita’s music needs to be even catchier so he collected some clickbait headlines set to music to create “The Clickbait Song.” Instant classic!
Over on “Late Night,” Tina Fey — promoting “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” — shamed her old Beyonce dubsmash, saying it wasn’t even that great. So she schooled the Internet with The Greatest Dubsmash Ever. (Spoiler alert: It’s Maya Rudolph in bed.)
Nick Jonas was also on Seth’s show and Nick talked about that time, when he was about 14, he saw three UFOs. So, like his buddy Demi Lovato, he’s a firm believer in extraterrestrial life. Does he believe in mermaids, though?
James Corden won for hottest male guests — sorry Clooney — with Bradley Cooper, Andrew Garfield, and Jake McDorman. Watch below to see Bradley break out some sweet dance moves, and Andrew let his hair flow free. Plus — this is great — Jake talked about meeting Bradley on the set of “American Sniper” and bulked-up Bradley’s first question was “You guys seen that movie ‘Frozen’?”
