  • ‘Shazam!’ Star Zachary Levi to Host MTV Movie & TV Awards

‘Shazam!’ Star Zachary Levi to Host MTV Movie & TV Awards

    Warner Bros.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are tapping into the super powers of current superhero star Zachary Levi, with the “Shazam!” headliner set to emcee the ceremony.

The network and Levi revealed the news on Tuesday, with the actor taking to his social media accounts to spread the word and hype up fans.

“This is not a drill,” Levi captioned a silly video of him marveling over the awards show’s signature golden popcorn trophy. “We gon’ do the damn thang.”

Levi’s selection is perfect timing, tapping into the excitement over his starring role in the DC hit “Shazam!,” in which he plays a teenager who can transform into the titular superhero on command. And the goofy, good-natured actor seems like a great fit for the awards, which are typically irreverent and over-the-top in every regard.

The awards have undergone some serious changes in recent years, rebranding back in 2017 to also honor television alongside movies. That same year also featured another first: Giving out an award for the best performance in a film by either a male or female actor, rather than dividing awards by gender. Emma Watson took home that inaugural trophy, for “Beauty and the Beast.”

Of course, they’re still plenty silly (see Chris Pratt‘s heartfelt — and poop-filled — speech from last year). We expect Levi to embody that vibe throughout the night.

The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards are set to air on June 17.

  • Millie Bobby Brown Must Skip the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Here’s Why

    Ouch!

    Poor Millie Bobby Brown.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards airs tonight (Monday, June 18), but it was taped over the weekend. “Stranger Things” topped the TV nominations, but Eleven/Jane was not there to cheer the Netflix show on with her cast-mates.

Instead, the 14-year-old actress posted a video to fans to let them know she somehow split her kneecap (!) and would have to just be there in spirit:

“Hi, guys! So, um, another milestone in my life. I’ve never actually broken a bone, until now. I have split my kneecap. So I — from the doctor’s orders — he told me to rest up and that means I won’t be attending the MTV Awards this weekend.

But I hope Gaten, Caleb, Finn, Sadie, and Noah have the best time. I love them so dearly. I wish you guys the best. I’m sending my luck with you. And I’ll be there in spirit.”

Did she hurt herself in a stunt taping “Stranger Things” Season 3 or what? Hopefully she heals fast.

MTV caught up with Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Sadie Sink on the red carpet. They refused to say anything about “Stranger Things” Season 3, which is now taping, beyond confirming that it’s set in 1985: The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards air Monday, June 18 at 9/8c on MTV. “Stranger Things” Season 3 has no set premiere date at this point on Netflix.

  • Emma Watson Cheers on ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Opening at MTV Movie & TV Awards

2017 MTV Movie And TV Awards - ShowThe biggest movie of the year (so far) got a new take at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday.

With Emma Watson looking on, three “Pitch Perfect 2” stars re-imagined the “Beauty and the Beast” ball to open the show. Host Adam DeVine took the role of the Beast, and his co-star Hailee Steinfeld volunteered to play Belle, revealing that she was wearing just the outfit to do it — a “coincidence,” of course. With the lead roles sorted, DeVine brought out Rebel Wilson, clad in a giant teapot, to play Mrs. Potts.

The audience seemed excited to see the Pitch Perfect gang’s comedic take on the classic story, but perhaps no one was more excited than Emma Watson. She look absolutely thrilled to see Steinfeld filling her shoes (and golden gown). Watson can rest easy knowing that she won’t be usurped in the hearts of fans; she took home the award for Best Actor in a Movie and the film score Movie of the Year.

If you want to watch a portion of the opening below, be our guest. Look for Waston’s reaction around the 8-second mark.
