The arrival of “Mrs. Doubtfire” the musical has been announced.

The stage adaptation is set to open this fall in Seattle, Deadline reports. Performances will begin Nov. 26 at the 5th Avenue Theatre, and opening night is scheduled for Dec. 13. The show will run through Dec. 29.

The musical is based on the 1993 film “Mrs. Doubtfire,” which starred Robin Williams as a divorced dad who lost custody of his kids. A struggling actor, he decided to disguise himself as an older woman to be hired as their nanny and spend more time with them. The film also starred Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan, and was directed by Chris Columbus.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” is eventually headed to Broadway. Casting remains to be announced, but in the meantime, we know Jerry Zaks is set to direct and Lorin Latarro will choreograph. Tony nominees Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell are writing the book, with Kirkpatrick working with Wayne Kirkpatrick on the music and lyrics. The production’s music supervisor will be Ethan Popp.

Kevin McCollum is producing and it is presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical. McCollum was the one who announced the dates of the Seattle run, indicating progress for the project. There have been plans to bring “Mrs. Doubtfire” to the stage as a musical since at least 2015. With the new creative team announced in August 2018, it now seems that the show will finally go on.

  • ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Cast Reunites, Remembers Robin Williams

    20th Century Fox

The cast of “Mrs. Doubtfire” gathered for a reunion to celebrate the family comedy’s 25th anniversary and honor the memory of star Robin Williams.

Lisa Jakub, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson — who played the three Hillard siblings — reunited with Pierce Brosnan (the new boyfriend of Sally Field’s mom character) for an interview on “Today.”

“There is a sense that no time has passed,” Jakub said. “It’s a bit of a time warp.”

They reminisced about Williams, who played the kids’ dad and disguised elderly British nanny. In particular, they recalled his fatherly advice about mental health and addiction.

“One of the most powerful things for me about working with him is that he was very open and honest with me talking about his issues with addiction and depression,”Jakub noted. “That was so powerful to me at 14. I have struggles with anxiety my whole life.”

Lawrence added, “Robin was like a guiding source. He would just all of a sudden, out of the blue look over and be like, ‘Don’t do drugs. They really messed up my brain, I’m serious. Do not do them.’ That stuck with me.”

The actors also talked about Williams’ zany improvisations.

“We did a lot of takes,” Wilson said. “It would be like, ‘Okay, take 25.’ And Robin would be different every time.”

Oh my dears, a “Mrs. Doubtfire” reunion has happened at last!

Several members of the cast of the classic 1993 family comedy got together for a photo ahead of the movie’s 25th anniversary, which is November 24.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” starred the late Robin Williams as a dad of three, estranged from his wife (Sally Field). Desperate to spend time with the kids, he dresses up and acts like an elderly British nanny.

Lisa Jakub, who played the eldest of the three Hillard children, shared a picture on Instagram featuring herself, on-screen siblings Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson, and Pierce Brosnan (who played Field’s love interest).  Only Field is missing.

Jakub also shared a video, in which Brosnan (who was Fields’ love interest in the film) zooms in an image of the three younger actors at the 1993 premiere and then says, “Love you, love you all so much. So good to be a part of your lives.”

With the 25th anniversary of “Mrs. Doubtfire” coming up, nostalgia for the film is at its peak and a Broadway musical version of the movie is underway.

    20th Century Fox

A bunch of beloved movies have been turned into Broadway musicals in recent years, and it looks like “Mrs. Doubtfire” will officially be joining their ranks: The long-gestating project just landed a new creative team and is beginning production soon.

Fox Stage Productions announced the exciting news on Tuesday, revealing that the 1993 film, starring the late Robin Williams, was set to hit the Great White Way. Jerry Zaks, a four-time Tony winner and eight-time nominee who directed the recent hit revival of “Hello, Dolly!,” will be directing.

John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick (“Something Rotten!”) are writing the book, while Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick are penning the music and lyrics. The rest of the creative team, as well as the cast, are set to be announced “at a later date,” according to a press release.

A “Mrs. Doubtfire” musical was previously in the works back in 2015, with veteran Disney composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” literally every other animated Disney musical you loved) working on the music. At the time, Menken said the project — which also had “Mrs. Doubtfire” star and Broadway vet Harvey Fierstein attached to write the book — was “going very well,” though it eventually fizzled.

With this new team on board, however, it looks like the comedy is finally on track to actually make its Broadway debut.

“’Mrs. Doubtfire’ is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving,” said producer Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions in a joint statement. “Getting this team together and crafting ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”

No word yet on when production is set to start, or when it might actually hit the stage. Stay tuned.

  • The House From ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Is For Sale

Well-off pop culture fans looking to relocate to San Francisco have had a plethora of choices lately: First, the iconic house used as the exterior of the Tanner home on “Full House” was made available for rent, and now, the home used in “Mrs. Doubtfire” is also on the market.

The stunning Victorian house, located at 2640 Steiner St. in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood, served as the home of Miranda and Daniel Hillard in 1993’s “Mrs. Doubtfire,” which starred Robin Williams as a divorced father who goes undercover as a British female housekeeper to get closer to his kids with his estranged wife (Sally Field). Much of the film was shot in the house, and while it’s undergone some updates over the years (the exterior is yellow now, and the kitchen has been remodeled), it still looks almost identical to its early ’90s self.

As listing agent Steven Gothelf explained to SF Gate, the four-bedroom house sets itself apart from other Victorians of its era (the home was built in 1893) thanks to its larger-than-average rooms and more open floor plan. Sunlight streams into almost every crevice of the home, and original woodwork can be found throughout the property.

The asking price may make some fans wince, though: At $4.45 million, it’s not exactly aimed at the average homebuyer. And anyone who purchases the property should be comfortable with a steady stream of tourists looking for a photo op. (The location also became a makeshift memorial to Williams after his 2014 death.)
