  • ‘A Christmas Story’ Bully Reveals How Much He Still Makes in Royalties

I triple-dog-dare you to guess how much Scut Farkus still makes from “A Christmas Story.”

FOX aired the musical “A Christmas Story Live” last night — to mixed reviews — and it made a lot of fans nostalgic for the 1983 movie. Zack Ward played bully Scut Farkus in that holiday classic, and he talked to Page Six about how much money he still gets today in royalties.

“You’re going to be so disappointed,” Ward told Page Six. “It’s basically about $1,800 every two years … and it comes in in Canadian money because we shot in Canada.”

Why would anyone be disappointed? Can you imagine doing a job at age 13 and still getting payments for it at age 47? How is that not The Dream?! (For the record, at the current exchange, $1,800 Canadian dollars is equal to about $1,400 U.S. dollars. Still awesome for a job you did almost 35 years ago.)

Proving he’s nothing like the bully he played, Ward told Page Six he puts the money in a special account in case his mom needs it someday.

11th Annual Final Draft Awards - ShowWard said he still gets stopped in the street by strangers — even though he didn’t get to keep Farkus’ trademark hat — and he’s still acting, now living in the L.A. area. He has a pretty long filmography, and was recently in “American Horror Story: Cult” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Aside from acting, Page Six said he works with All Sports Market and Global Sports Financial Exchange, Inc. developing a sports exchange for fans to buy and trade shares of their favorite sports teams.

TNT and TBS are airing “A Christmas Story” marathon from December 24-25, in case you want to watch Ralphie beat up Farkus a few more times. At least he’s still getting paid for it!

  • Matthew Broderick Will Narrate Fox’s ‘A Christmas Story Live!’

Center Theatre Group's 50th Anniversary Celebration - ArrivalsMatthew Broderick is set to play a key role in Fox’s upcoming live musical staging of “A Christmas Story,” with the Tony winner signing on to narrate the proceedings.

As fans of the beloved holiday classic know, the narrator is an adult version of Ralphie Parker, the 9-year-old protagonist who pines for a Red Ryder BB gun in both the 1983 flick and 2012 musical, on which Fox’s adaptation is based. The part should be a natural fit for Broderick, who’s both a Tony winner (“How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”) and voice acting vet (“The Lion King”).

Broderick takes over narration duties from the late humorist Jean Shepherd, on whose writings the original film was based. He joins the previously-announced Maya Rudolph, who will play Ralphie’s mother, Mrs. Parker, in the production.

Recent Oscar and Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul — the duo responsible for the tunes behind Best Picture nominee “La La Land” and Best Musical winner “Dear Evan Hansen” — wrote the original score for “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” and will be penning several new songs for Fox’s version. Additional cast members are set to be announced soon.

“A Christmas Story Live!” debuts on Fox on December 17.

  • Maya Rudolph to Star in Fox’s ‘A Christmas Story’ Live Musical

Premiere Of Open Road Films' 'The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature' - ArrivalsFox’s latest live musical event has just lined up an amazing lead: Maya Rudolph is set to play Ralphie’s mom in “A Christmas Story.”

The network made the announcement this week during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, revealing that Rudolph would be playing the quirky family matriarch who’s continually exasperated with 9-year-old protagonist Ralphie Parker. Rudolph is no stranger to live television, having starred on “Saturday Night Live” for seven seasons, where she frequently showed off her impressive singing voice. She also recently co-headlined the variety show “Maya & Marty” alongside Martin Short.

“A Christmas Story: The Musical,” based on the beloved 1983 movie, first hit Broadway in 2012, and features a score from recent Oscar and Tony winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo responsible for music from 2016 awards season juggernaut “La La Land” and buzzy Broadway show “Dear Evan Hansen.” Fox announced that Pasek and Paul will write “several new songs” for the live version.

Announcements of additional cast members are expected from Fox “soon,” Variety reports. “A Christmas Story: The Musical” will debut live on Fox on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. EST; it will later air on tape delay on the west coast.

  • Fox Making ‘A Christmas Story’ Live Musical

Oooh, fudge! A live musical version of “A Christmas Story” is coming to television.

Fox has ordered an adaptation based on the 1983 holiday classic from the team behind “La La Land.”

Marc Platt, who produced Fox’s “Grease: Live!” and “La La Land,” will oversee the event. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar-winning songwriters of “City of Stars,” scored the Tony-nominated Broadway musical based on the movie and will contribute new songs to the Fox version.

“‘A Christmas Story’ is one of the most beloved holiday films of all time — audiences have made a yearly ritual of re-watching it — and we are so thrilled to have Marc leading the charge in bringing the musical version of that film to television,” said Fox chief David Madden.

“The extraordinarily gifted Pasek and Paul were instrumental in transposing the movie to the stage, and we believe the transition to live television event will be just as entertaining for viewers.”

The three-hour live musical is set for this December.
