Kristen Bell Shares a Tour of the ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Set

    Warner Bros.

The “Veronica Mars” revival won’t be premiering until sometime in the second half of 2019, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t be overly-excited about it right this minute. And the latest dispatch from Veronica herself, Kristen Bell, should certainly please diehard Marshmallows.

In a Twitter post and Instagram Stories and video, Bell revealed a look at the set of the revival, offering a tour of the familiar offices of Mars Investigations. Many of the props from the original series were accounted for (hey there, Lady Justice!), and there was even a nice surprise for Veronica herself: A brand new office of her own, complete with an impressive wall of books and a fancy nameplate.

“Being in the Investigations office brings up a lot of memories, and nostalgia, and feelings of, Who on earth let us do this again?!” Bell said in one video.

Fans are no doubt similarly pinching themselves over the revival, which is slated to run for eight episodes on Hulu, and bring back much of the original cast (not to mention some pretty awesome newcomers). The “hardcore So-Cal noir,” as creator Rob Thomas put it, focuses on the murder of spring break revelers in Neptune, and how the crimes drive yet another wedge between the city’s wealthy elite and its working class.

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes peeks at the series. We have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more before the show’s 2019 debut.

  • J.K. Simmons Joins ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival

    Starz

Hulu’s upcoming “Veronica Mars” revival already has a pretty stellar cast, featuring both beloved original characters and intriguing (and Kristen Bell-adjacent) newcomers. Now, a huge star has just joined the latter camp.

TVLine reports that J.K. Simmons has signed on for a key role in the eight-episode limited series. The Oscar-winning actor will be playing someone who has a connection to a character not seen since the third season of the show’s original run.

Here’s the lowdown on the actor’s role:

Simmons’ character, Clyde Prickett, is an ex-con who served 10 years for racketeering, and was smart enough to be the first guy in Chino to offer protection to Neptune’s richest real estate developer, Big Dick Casablancas (David Starzyk), on Big Dick’s first day in prison. Now a free man, Clyde works as Big Dick’s fixer. He’s the smarter and more dangerous of the pair, and he has a network of fellow ex-cons he can count on to keep his own hands clean.

We’re guessing that Clyde and Dick’s dirty deeds will have some connection to the larger mystery of the new season, which revolves around the murder of spring break revelers in Neptune. Veronica (Kristen Bell) is hired by one victim’s family to help crack the case, and is thrust into a dispute between the city’s wealthy elite, who would rather the partying come to an end, and the working class population, which depends on the annual cash influx that’s being hampered by the crime spree.

The “Veronica Mars” cast also includes Jason DohringEnrico ColantoniPercy Daggs IIIFrancis CapraMax GreenfieldKirby Howell-Baptiste, and Patton Oswalt. The revival will hit Hulu sometime in 2019.

  • ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Brings Back Max Greenfield, Adds Patton Owalt

    Warner Bros. TV

Hulu’s revival of “Veronica Mars” continues to bring in old and new stars for the eight-episode continuation of the beloved series and 2014 movie.

Max Greenfield will reprise his role as Leo D’Amato, who was a sheriff’s deputy and a sometime love interest for Veronica (Kristen Bell) in the first three seasons of the show. In the movie, he’d graduated to detective at the San Diego Police Department and helped Veronica in her investigation of Carrie Bishop’s murder.

Greenfield is currently starring in the CBS sitcom “The Neighborhood” and previously broke out in Fox’s “New Girl.”

The revival has also cast Patton Oswalt as the recurring character Penn Epner, the “best pizza delivery guy in Neptune” (or so he claims). Pizza delivery is his job, but his passion is true crime” and he is a frequent poster on unsolved murder websites.

They join returning cast members Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, and Francis Capra, and new recruit Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

In the revival, a rash of spring break murders in Neptune has decimated tourism in the seaside town. Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find the killer. Soon, Veronica (Bell) is drawn into a battle between Neptune’s wealthy elite, who disapprove of the spring break bacchanalia, against the working class that depends on the cash influx.

    Keith Mars is back, Marshmallows.

Hulu’s upcoming revival of beloved crime series “Veronica Mars” had already booked several stars from the original show to reprise their roles. And now, Enrico Colantoni — who played Veronica’s (Kristen Bell) dad, Keith, throughout the series — will be back, too.

From the sounds of it, Mars Investigations is going to need all hands on deck to solve the new mystery at the center of the revival. The eight-episode limited series will focus around the murder of spring break revelers in Neptune, and the conflict that causes between the wealthy ’09-er elites (who want to put an end to the annual debauchery) and the working class (who rely on the influx of cash to sustain their businesses).

In addition to Bell and Colantoni, other returning stars include Jason Dohring (Logan), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Francis Capra (Weevil) and David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas). Show creator Rob Thomas has teased that the revival will be a “hardcore So-Cal noir” detective series, and pick up five years after the events of the 2014 movie. We can’t wait to catch up with everyone.

“Veronica Mars” makes its triumphant return on Hulu sometime next year.

  • ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Officially Headed to Hulu, Watch Kristen Bell’s ‘Very Important Marshmallow Annoucement’

‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Officially Headed to Hulu, Watch Kristen Bell’s ‘Very Important Marshmallow Annoucement’

    Warner Bros.

Mars Investigations is once again open for business.

On Thursday, actress Kristen Bell confirmed the news that Marshmallows have been waiting years to hear: “Veronica Mars” is officially set for a revival series, which will air on Hulu sometime in 2019. In a video message posted on her social media accounts, Bell said that all three previous seasons of the series — which aired on The WB and The CW from 2004 to 2007 — would be available to stream on Hulu next summer.

“Which is great,” the actress continued, “because you’ll need to brush up — since we’re making another one!”

Reports of such a revival first swirled last month, with sources saying that the show would be back in a limited-series capacity (a format that Bell herself has been talking about for a while). And don’t worry, fans of NBC’s “The Good Place” — Bell’s “Veronica” duties won’t interfere with her starring role on that sitcom.

Hulu shared its own Marshmall-centric confirmation announcement on Thursday:

The streaming service also revealed that the new season would consist of eight episodes, and revolve around a single plot. Here’s the official logline:

“Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.”

We seriously can’t wait. No word yet on an official premiere date, but we’re looking forward to spending most of next summer bingeing old seasons (and the 2014 movie, which will also be available on Hulu) and getting ready for more “Mars.”
  • Kristen Bell Says ‘Veronica Mars’ Will Return as a Miniseries: ‘It’s Going to Happen’

“The Good Place” star Kristen Bell is promising a “Veronica Mars” miniseries — but will we all be alive when it finally happens?

“Veronica Mars” premiered in 2004 and lasted for three seasons, then — in 2014 — a movie was released via Kickstarter funds.

Bell’s “Veronica Mars” costar Ryan Hansen got the ball rolling in terms of the future of “Mars” by calling into Bell’s Facebook Live chat with IndieWire. Here’s what Bell had to say:

“[Creator] Rob [Thomas] and I are sort of in constant contact about when we could do it again. There’s a lot of willingness and commitment to doing it again.

Personally, and I think that Rob probably agrees, (A) we’ll never make the fans pay for it again, (B) the format works better in an episodic, where you get a little more of it. So we want to do a miniseries. We are willing to put the effort in. I mean, if I have to do it as ‘Murder, She Wrote’ at 80, we’re going to do it. It’s going to happen.”

No one better dare be taking shots at “Murder She Wrote,” which is one of the best crime shows of all time. It would actually be awesome to see a Golden Girl Veronica Mars still solving crimes like Jessica Fletcher or Miss Marple.

But, since Kristen Bell is currently 37, that would be a long wait till she’s 80. Let’s hope she and Rob Thomas can find a way to clear their schedules and come up with the perfect miniseries. ‘Cause she’s right that that format works better than a movie.

Bell did say something similar last year to TVLine — that they want to do a limited series rather than a movie and “we’re not going to ask the audience to pony up for anything.” Rob Thomas also chimed in to say they both want to find a way to do a six-episode Veronica Mars mystery, he just didn’t know when it would be.
