    • A solo movie for The Muppets’ Miss Piggy is in early development.
    • Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are producing and potentially appearing.
    • Cole Escola will write the script.

Here’s something we’re not sure we –– or, indeed, anyone –– could have predicted. Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence (‘Joy’) and Emma Stone (‘Poor Things’) are developing a movie about diva-tastic Muppet star Miss Piggy.

And yes, we checked: it’s not April 1st.

Appearing on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers ‘Las Culturistas’ podcast, Lawrence broke the news:

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”

Cole, in this case, is Cole Escola, who won an Emmy for creating Broadway hit ‘Oh, Mary!’ And this development marks the latest in something of a Muppets resurgence, since a new iteration of ‘The Muppet Show’ is also in the works.

    What is Miss Piggy’s story?

While she’s long been as one of the best-known central Muppet characters, the spotlight-hogging diva didn’t start that way.

Starting as a chorus pig on ‘The Muppet Show,’ Miss Piggy gradually became a bigger part of the series, before becoming an icon in the late 1970s and early ’80s, often performed and voiced by Frank Oz (who also played Yoda in the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy)

Despite Kermit being the star, Miss Piggy has long stolen the spotlight from her froggy beau, and is known for her both her quick temper and kung-fu moves.

Quite what the new movie will be about remains to be seen –– could we see the story of her meteoric rise?

According to Lawrence, both she and Stone are likely to appear in the film.

Lawrence will be back in theaters starring alongside Robert Pattinson in ‘Die My Love,’ which is released on November 7. She’s also attached to various projects including mystery thriller ‘The Wives’ and a movie about the life of novelist and Jazz Age socialite Zelda Fitzgerald during her marriage to author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

As for Stone, she’s in cinemas with ‘Bugonia,’ her latest collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos.

When will the Miss Piggy movie be in theaters?

All of this, of course, is still floating in the rumor sphere right now since Muppet rights holders Disney has yet to announce anything.

    • Disney+ has a new ‘The Muppet Show’ special in the works.
    • Seth Rogen will produce.
    • Sabrina Carpenter is the celebrity guest.

Despite the enduring appeal of Kermit and co., the Muppets’ attempts to bring their particular brand of loveable, felt-covered anarchy back to small screens has not been met with a whole lot of success, as various shows, including last year’s ‘The Muppets Mayhem’, have failed to win big audiences.

But the gang is not giving up, aiming to play the music and light the lights for a rebooted take on their classic ‘Muppet Show’ on Disney+, with the aim to launch a brand new series that has Seth Rogen on board as producer and many of the Muppet veteran performers lending their skills.

‘The Muppet Show’, created by Jim Henson, ran from 1976-81 and aired in over 100 countries and featured notable guest stars including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minnelli, Paul Simon and many others.

The series earned Emmy, Grammy, Peabody, BAFTA and numerous other awards, and can be found lurking on Disney+.

Who else is involved with the new ‘Muppet Show’ special?

The special is written by Albertina Rizzo and directed by Alex Timbers, with Rogen among its producers.

Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will return to reprise the majority of the iconic Muppet characters in this special, joined by additional performers. Goelz, who has been with The Muppets for more than 50 years, has been part of the cast since the first ‘The Muppet Show’ and originated the characters Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, among many others.

This new show will get back to basics, following Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to produce a variety show.

And the celebrity this time? Musician Sabrina Carpenter, who is a longtime fan of Kermit and the gang, and would seem to be ticking off a bucket list item with the special.

When will the ‘Muppet Show’ special be on Disney+?

Disney has offered little official details on the release, but it’s expected next year to tie in with the 50th anniversary of the original series.

  • ‘Riverdale’ Star Lili Reinhart and Miss Piggy Are Now Feuding Over Cole Sprouse

Look out, Bettty, Miss Piggy is coming for Jughead.

“Riverdale,” with fans calling their ‘ship Bughead. The stars are also reportedly dating in real life. But now Bughead may have to make room for, um … Pighead? … since Missy Piggy is in man-stealing mode.

Reinhart started this feud. Even though she’s probably busy filming “Riverdale” Season 2, and handling her own relationship, she took some time out to tweet her thoughts on Miss Piggy’s relationship with her The Muppets co-star Kermit:

Miss Piggy did not approve that message. She fired back by taking aim at Lili’s on-and-off-screen romance:

Nice! Lili has yet to reply — she may still be knocked out on the floor somewhere — but Cole Sprouse did jump in:

“Please continue,” he probably meant. You can just imagine the giant grin on his face as he tweeted that.

By the way, “Riverdale” Season 2 is starting up very soon. Episode 1, “Chapter Fourteen: A Kiss Before Dying,” airs October 11 with this synopsis from The CW: “Archie struggles with the emotional aftermath of his father’s shooting; Veronica learns her father has arrived in town earlier than expected; Pop Tate’s story leaves Jughead and Betty questioning the gunman’s motives.”

  • Love Is Dead: Kermit and Miss Piggy Have Broken Up

MuppetsThe summer of 2015 is when love died. Ben and Jen. Blake and Miranda. Gavin and Gwen. And now — sob — Kermit and Miss Piggy!

Kermit first broke the news to reporters about the breakup at the “Muppets” panel at TCA, then confirmed it via an official statement on Twitter.

“Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically. It can be tough to work with your ex,” he said, referring to the new “Muppets” show which will debut this fall on ABC.

Not only have Kermit and Piggy broken up, but the frog has already moved on — with another pig! He revealed he is dating a pig named Denise who works in marketing at ABC. “I do have an attraction to pigs,” Kermit admitted.

As for Miss Piggy, who arrived late and in dramatic fashion to the panel, she shrugged off possible tensions on set. “I have no problem working with my ex, OK? It’s fine,” she said. “You know what? Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”

  • ‘The Muppet Show’ Could Be Headed Back to TV

ABC is quietly working on a “Muppet Show” revival, with help from “The Big Bang Theory” co-creator Bill Prady.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” Prady and Bob Kushell (“Anger Management,” “3rd Rock From the Sun”) are writing a script for a pilot presentation that could be shown off as early as the television upfronts in May. The show will reportedly start filming next weekend.

The concept for the show sounds like it will hit some viewers right in the nostalgia #feels, while also being cool and meta enough to keep pace with the 21st century viewer. “Sources say the concept for the presentation includes the regular cast of characters created by Jim Henson – Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Animal, among others – gathering at ABC Studios for a meeting about the new ‘Muppet Show.’ However, the show won’t move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on, and her current relationship with frequent love Kermit is on the rocks, preventing the show from getting off the ground.” Love is strange!

Yes, we checked the date and everything! This is no April Fools’ prank, believe it or not. Hey, it can’t be any stranger than “Fuller House,” right?
