  • Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine Have ‘Masculine Tension’

There’s nothing quite like widespread global destruction that will ignite feelings between the two last remaining people on Earth. After all, it’s not as if their date cards are full.

In “Z is for Zachariah,” Chiwetel Ejiofor’s John Loomis and Margot Robbie’s Ann Burden and discover each other, believing they are the last remaining souls of civilization, so sparks fly, naturally.

But things turn messy when there’s third wheel.

“If you’re the first guy who turns up in this place and you’re building this dynamic with a girl, and then another guy turns up, the instinct is, sadly, to go, ‘I was here first and that means something, there’s an order to this,’” Ejiofor says.

Of course, when Caleb, played by Chris Pine, enters the picture later, he’s not willing to wait his turn for Ann’s affections—and Ejiofor says he doesn’t blame him.

“Caleb (Pine) doesn’t believe in that at all, and neither should he,” Ejiofor admits of the love triangle. “That’s what creates their masculine tension.”

    “Z for Zachariah” opens Friday.

  • Chiwetel Ejiofor on ‘Adam and Eve’ Relationship With Margot Robbie

As the last people known to be alive on Earth, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Margot Robbie‘s characters wisely learned to get along in “Z for Zachariah.”

“They navigate each other as the only two people around,” Ejiofor tells Made in Hollywood. It’s the Adam and Eve but for real. It’s a strong element to investigate.”

The pair bond after discovering each other in the wake of a disaster that has caused widespread destruction and wiped out most of civilization. But halfway through the film, Chris Pine finds the pair – and what happens next is a love triangle between what’s believed to be all that’s left of humanity.

“Z for Zachariah” hits theaters on Friday.

  • Jared Leto’s Joker Really Creeped Out Margot Robbie

He’s up against two of the best movie Jokers in Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson. But Jared Leto makes this villain all his own in “Suicide Squad,” says costar Margot Robbie.

“What he’s doing with the character is so cool,” Robbie tells the New York Daily News — high praise coming from somebody who herself had to amp the crazy up to 11 playing Harley Quinn in the anti-superhero movie that recently finished shooting.

The Oscar-winning Leto was so intense that at first Robbie found it “confronting” to be near him when he was in makeup — then even more intimidating when he stripped it away.

“Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him,” she says. “I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.”

“Suicide Squad” hits theaters in August 2016.

  • Is ‘Z for Zachariah’ Worth Seeing? Critics Weigh In!

Margot Robbie has won over critics yet again!

The stunning 25-year-old impressively plays what her character Ann thinks is the last woman on earth after surviving a nuclear war.

The Craig Zobel-directed sci-fi flick – which also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine as fellow survivors who come into Robbie’s life, creating a love triangle – received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83 percent. While this number is significantly higher than a good portion of the other films released this summer, some reviewers pan the film’s slow pace and cliche plot.

“This dull, slow movie represents a major step back for director Craig Zobel, who looked like he was ready for the big time with his deeply unsettling ‘Compliance’ a couple of years ago. The new one is, I’m afraid, though competently executed, pretty much a waste of time. But it’s a step up for the hugely talented 24-year-old Australian Margot Robbie, by far the best element of ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ …” — Kyle Smith, New York Post

“The film remains strangely inert, and the romantic triangle at the story’s center never gives off any real passion or heat. If John and Caleb are intended as twin pillars of science and spirituality, in the end they seem like two basically decent people who realize that there is no solution to this equation that involves both of them … building to an incredibly contrived climax straight out of an old Saturday morning serial. Who ends up with whom in the end? It scarcely seems to matter.” — Scott Foundas, Variety

But others believe the plot was pulled off just right, with the perfect actor selection.

“In the end, it is the actors who deliver this. Ejiofor’s John is a stoic whose frequent glower suggests dark secrets, and Pine’s deceptively folksy, almost feral Caleb is so charming that you don’t trust it. But it is Robbie’s Ann who truly compels, as a courageous, stalwart, devout moral beacon who makes even physical passion seem spiritual. Rarely have only three people seemed less like only three people.” — Michael Sauter, Film Journal

“The acting is excellent across the board … Much of ‘Z is for Zachariah’ is left for the viewer to contemplate, which is both an implicit challenge to the audience but also an implied compliment. The last human beings alive will still be human; that reality, and that realism, is what makes ‘Z is For Zachariah’ both compelling and worth seeing.” — James Rocchi, About.com

  • Will Smith and Margot Robbie Give ‘Suicide Squad’ Cast (Oddly Spelled) Tattoos

The name of the movie is “Suicide Squad” but the ultimate squad goal is to get inked with “skwad.” Director David Ayer and cast had a visit to “Harley’s Tattoo Parlour” for some bonding tattoos, with at least one tat inked by Harley actress Margot Robbie herself in full character. Will Smith (Deadshot) got in on the act to tattoo Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg) and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) showed off his own “skwad” arm. (Do you think Harley is the one who gave Jared Leto’s Joker all his tattoos?)

Here’s the photographic “skwad” proof, shared across social media (don’t skip the captions, especially Joel’s):

  • SDCC: The ‘Suicide Squad’ Comic-Con Trailer Is Finally Online

suicide squad, the joker, jared leto, suicide squad trailerThere were plenty of descriptions of the new “Suicide Squad” trailer that debuted at Comic-Con this weekend (and plenty of bootleg versions, too), but now, the official clip has finally made its way online for your (legal) viewing pleasure.

Earlier reports suggested that the introduction of The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) evoked the biggest reactions from the Comic-Con crowd, and it’s not hard to see why. Quinn gets the most screen time of the two in the extended clip, first appearing as an ethereal figure trapped in a cage by Squad assembler Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), dangling from the enclosure like an acrobat; later, she licks the bars in a move that’s both sexy and creepy as hell (no doubt the intention of filmmakers).

Waller describes Quinn and co. as “the worst of the worst,” explaining that by forming a “taskforce of the most dangerous people on the planet,” the U.S. can basically do whatever it wants to the rest of the world, and blame it on the bad guys — and essentially leave them to die — if things go south. “We’re the patsies,” Will Smith‘s Deadshot tells the rest of the villains. “We’re some kind of Suicide Squad.”

The trailer is packed with slick shots of the crew defying death (and even battling Batman), sowing chaos and leaving plenty of destruction in their wake. There are firefights, fistfights, car chases, and more — and then, finally, there’s The Joker.

Saving the spookiest for last, the clip ends with the introduction of Leto’s iconic character, who utters the line, “I’m not gonna kill ya. I’m just gonna hurt ya really, really bad.” He bares his silver teeth and stares straight into the camera with his soulless eyes before the screen goes black, leaving plenty of questions — and plenty of chills — in his wake.

Check out the action-packed trailer below. “Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • ‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer: Joker, Harley Quinn Get Biggest Comic-Con Reaction

UPDATE: Warner Bros. has released a high-quality version of the “Suicide Squad” Comic-Con trailer, which can be viewed right here:
    PREVIOUSLY…

“Suicide Squad” is still filming in Toronto, but director David Ayer and cast showed up at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 to promise fans a great movie and show the first big trailer. And of course that trailer was immediately leaked online.

Watch the video below to see David Ayer basically do some D.C. vs. Marvel stand-up for the crowd, then introduce cast members Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and Will Smith (Deadshot).

Will Smith ends the video by saying, “This group right here, we are banging out something that is absolutely fantastic and stunning. And this guy right here, David Ayer, is the absolute truth, he is making something you are going to love.”

David Ayer joked about the leaked set photos from their time filming on the streets, saying people had been shooting some footage with their iPhones, so here’s a little something he found online. Cue the trailer. And cue the bootleg version. Here’s a fan-shot video over here — and you can hear the crowd definitely sharing the strongest reactions for all the shots of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and (especially) the few end-of-trailer glimpses of Jared Leto‘s Joker. It does seem like the Joker is being positioned as the real star of this movie, in part because of how secretive they’ve tried to be about him. Jared was not at Comic-Con and his character only appears at the end like a special treat.

“Suicide Squad” is set for release August 5, 2016.

  • See ‘Suicide Squad’ Star Margot Robbie’s Awesome Harley Quinn Birthday Cake

Margot Robbie turned 25-years-badass on July 2. What do you get the (nearly flawless) actress who seems to have everything — including multiple roles alongside Will Smith? How ’bout a birthday cake in honor of her “Suicide Squad” character, Harley Quinn?

Here’s Margot’s amazing b-day photo from the superhero/villain movie set:

Harley’s cake – thank you squad!

    That is pretty freakin’ sweet.

We’re expecting some good stuff from Margot’s Harley Quinn, who was seen in leaked set photos opposite Jared Leto‘s Joker. Cara Delevingne, who is playing Enchantress, recently said there are only three women in the Suicide Squad, but “they have the best roles.” We’ll get to judge for ourselves when “Suicide Squad” is released a little over a year from now, on August 5, 2016.

  • 25 Times Margot Robbie Was a Nearly Flawless Human Being

    %Slideshow-302240%
Australian actress Margot Robbie is going places. Her scene-stealing work in 2013’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” (Brooklyn accent = flawless) led to even bigger roles in even bigger movies; she plays Harley Quinn in next year’s “Suicide Squad” and English explorer Jane alongside Alexander Skarsgård’s Tarzan in “Tarzan,” also in 2016.

But, back here in 2015, we’re more than a little obsessed with how much she owns the red carpet. So let’s take a look back at Robbie’s many, many, MANY near-flawless moments on the red carpet, from her teenage years on Australia’s mega-hit soap “Neighbours” to today’s A-list looks.

  • ‘Suicide Squad’ Only Has Three Girls, But ‘They Have the Best Roles’

What’s more important: Quantity or quality? Cara Delevingne is playing Enchantress in “Suicide Squad,” a superhero/villain movie based on the DC Comics characters, and she said the few female roles in the movie are the best roles.

Will Smith has arguably the lead role as Deadshot, with Jared Leto as Joker, and Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood, Common, Jim Parrack, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje picking up other main roles. But Margot Robbie has one of the most anticipated roles as Harley Quinn — she’s front and center in the character photo above — and Karen Fukuhara is taking on the role of Katana. Viola Davis plays Amanda Waller, who has no superpowers, but she’s the head of the agency so that’s its own power, even outside the Squad.

Delevingne — who is everywhere lately — talked to Empire Magazine about the movie, and superhero films in general. “There are only three girls in [the Suicide Squad] but in my opinion they have the best roles,” she said (via Yahoo). “Generally though, superhero movies are totally sexist. Female superheroes are normally naked or in bikinis. No-one would be able to fight like that. Wonder Woman, how the hell does she fight? She would be dead in a minute.”

At the very least Wonder Woman would be a little chilly on a cool night, but Harley Quinn also lacks a bit of cover-up, as the photo above hints. Plus, check out the pic below. Director David Ayer retweeted this Instagram pic from a fan who noted, “Crazy to think Harley Quinn is going to be on the big screen in just over a year. #DCCU @DavidAyerMovies”:

Size and clothing do not sum up a person’s powers, and we already figured Harley would be one of the best characters of “Suicide Squad.” Now we’re looking forward to seeing the other women in action as well. “Suicide Squad” is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016.
