    Universal

When legends share a red –er, make that blue — carpet together, there’s no telling what may happen. And fans were treated to the ultimate magic moment when Cher and Meryl Streep shared a kiss at the London premiere of “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”

The Oscar winners and longtime pals previously starred together in 1983’s “Silkwood,” and were back together again at Monday night’s premiere. Cher and Meryl were clearly delighted to be reunited, and celebrated the occasion with a playful smooch for the cameras.

Fans found the display of affection absolutely divine (and maybe not-so-secretly wished they were in the middle of this Cher-Meryl sandwich), and took to Twitter to declare their love for not only the actresses, but also the actresses’ love for each other. And naturally, the buzzy moment became an instant meme.

Most of the rest of the members of the “Mamma Mia 2” cast — which features Lily JamesPierce BrosnanColin FirthStellan SkarsgårdJulie WaltersDominic CooperAmanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski — were also in attendance. But let’s be real: Streep and Cher may as well have been the only ones walking the carpet, for all of the attention they commanded. And really, when these two queens are involved, isn’t that the way it should be?

  • ‘Mamma Mia!’ Fans Are Not Taking the Sequel’s Possible Character Death Well At All

Pause the music, because “Mamma Mia!” fans have some grievances to air.

The “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” trailer dropped on Thursday, but the usual song and dance came with a dark element: the possible death of Donna, Meryl Streep‘s beloved character. That wasn’t what fans had expected to see in the sequel, considering how lighthearted and fun the previous movie was. In fact, many people were downright outraged by the potential plot point, and they turned to Twitter as an outlet for their shock, disappointment, and hurt.

As you’ll see below, there are fans who are seriously concerned about Donna. There are already calls for thoughts and prayers, even though the musical isn’t due out in theaters for more than six months.

We can all probably hold off on sending our thoughts and prayers. As fans pointed out, “Mamma Mia!” was full of joy, and we suspect they’ll be able to bring more of it to the sequel. Amanda Seyfried has sung the upcoming movie’s praises, calling it “better than the original.” That bodes well, so let’s relax for now.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” opens in July 2018.

  • Amanda Seyfried Thought the ‘Mamma Mia!’ Sequel Was Going to Be ‘Terrible’

ITALY-CINEMA-VENICE-FILM-FESTIVAL-MOSTRAAmanda Seyfried couldn’t resist the “Mamma Mia!” sequel, even though she at first thought it would be “terrible.”

The actress told EW she was hesitant when she first heard about the project, but it ended up winning her over. Not only did she not find it awful, she went so far as to describe it as “amazing.” She couldn’t say enough good things about the making of it, either.

Seyfried reprises her role as Sophie in the film, which also brings back Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgard, among others. The reunion with her former cast mates after 10 years, she said, was “the time of [her] life.”

“There’s so much love and so much family that it’s infused 100 times in this movie,” Seyfried said. “It was so unexpected for me.”

All that love apparently helped production go well, because the actress is thrilled with the end result. In fact, she even described the upcoming film as “better than the original.” With that glowing comment, how can we resist it, either?

“Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” is due out July 20.

  • Amanda Seyfried Is Officially Coming Back for the ‘Mamma Mia!’ Sequel

Premiere Of Showtime's 'Twin Peaks' - ArrivalsMore details about the “Mamma Mia!” sequel are being unveiled.

News came in May that “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” was officially on, but it wasn’t clear specifically which of the original cast members were slated to return for more ABBA-fueled fun. Now, we know that Amanda Seyfried is onboard, thanks to a Deadline report. She’ll reprise her role as Sophie, the young woman who invited her mother’s three former lovers to her wedding to find out which was her biological father.

The last we saw Sophie in the 2008 musical, she and her mom, Donna (Meryl Streep), had made up after a fight, and Sophie was happily enjoying having three dads. She also postponed her wedding to her fiancé, Sky (Dominic Cooper), in favor of traveling the world together. We’ll see if they’re still a couple in the sequel — Seyfried and Cooper are real-life exes now.

It’ll be interesting to learn where the characters’ lives have gone in the almost 10 years since we last saw them. We can’t wait for more adventures and a soundtrack of catchy ABBA tunes.

“Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” is slated for a July 20, 2018 release.
