  • Happy Earth Day! Here’s the First ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer

Independence Day ResurgenceOnce again, aliens are invading Earth and blowing up everything in their path. And once again, humankind has to team up to save their planet.

To celebrate Earth Day, Fox released the first trailer for “Independence Day: Resurgence,” the sequel to 1996 blockbuster hit. Director Roland Emmerich jokingly apologized for destroying Earth so often in his movies, and “Resurgence” is no exception.
Emmerich’s comment might have been tongue-in-cheek, but he really does like blowing things up. Entire cities look to be decimated. London Bridge goes falling down. As returning cast member Jeff Goldblum ironically notes, “They like to get the landmarks.” That’s putting it lightly.

Also returning from the original movie are Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner. Meanwhile, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, and Maika Monroe represent the new generation battling the alien invasion.

“Independence Day: Resurgence” opens in theaters June 24.

  • Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Are Engaged Again: Report

Relativity Media's "Paranoia" Premiere - Red CarpetMore than two years after calling off their engagement, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are officially back together — and it looks like they’re engaged again, too.

Gossip outlets have been buzzing about the pair, who were recently spotting spending time together in Hemsworth’s native Australia, where they attended a music festival and hung out with Hemsworth’s family over the New Year’s holiday. Since then, Cyrus has been seen out in public wearing her flashy 3.5-carat diamond engagement ring (and flaunting it on Instagram), sparking rumors that this reconciliation was about to get more permanent.

According to Us Weekly, it indeed has, as the couple is officially engaged again. Sources tell the magazine that Hemsworth, 26, and Cyrus, 23, are not only betrothed (and telling friends the news), but they’re moving in together, too. Cyrus has reportedly been seen with boxes and a moving truck outside of Hemsworth’s Malibu home.

Hemsworth first popped the question to Cyrus back in May 2012, after meeting on the set of 2010’s Nicholas Sparks drama “The Last Song.” They called off their engagement in September 2013.

Congrats (again!) to the happy couple! As an added bonus, here are Miley and Liam reminding us why they are so freakin’ adorable together.

  • ‘The Hunger Games’: 15 Things You (Probably) Don’t Know About the Blockbuster Franchise

What’s left to say about “The Hunger Games” franchise? You’ve seen the first three movies, you’ve contributed to their $2.3 billion worldwide box office haul, and you’ve helped make stars out of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.

Still, as immersed as you’ve been in Suzanne Collins’ post-apocalyptic series of books and movies over the past few years, there are still things you may not know about the making of the four films. So before you see “Mockingjay — Part 2,” check out these 15 things you need to know about the exploits of the Girl on Fire.
    1. Among those who auditioned to play Katniss: Abigail Breslin, Chloe Grace Moretz (pictured), Emma Roberts, and Shailene Woodley.

    2. Lawrence knew just how life-changing the role of Katniss would be for her, and she responded to the offer by saying no. But then she thought about it for three days, realized she would be disappointed if she didn’t play the part, and changed her mind.

    3. To prepare for his audition for the role of Gale, Liam Hemsworth ran lines with his brother, “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth, who rehearsed as Katniss.

    4. Lawrence learned to shoot arrows from no less than five-time Olympic archer and bronze medal-winner Khatuna Lorig.

    5. During down time on the “Hunger Games” shoot, Lawrence tried to impress co-star Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) by claiming she could kick so high her foot would clear his head. It didn’t. She swatted him in the temple and knocked him out cold.
    6. According to Entertainment Weekly, during the “Hunger Games” shoot, Lawrence went to an Elvis Costello concert one night and got up on the stage to dance. No one recognized the 21-year-old, then still on the cusp of fame.

    7. Usually, second-unit directors, who film the scenic shots and other background material so that the director can focus on working with the stars, are unknowns working their way up to becoming directors. But the second-unit director on “Hunger Games” was Oscar-winning A-lister Steven Soderbergh, who came in for one day to film the District 11 riot.

    8. The elaborate costumes Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) wears in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” were borrowed from an Alexander McQueen collection.

    9. “Catching Fire” is (as of this writing) not just the highest-grossing of the “Hunger Games” films (at $425 million), it is also the highest-grossing film of 2013. It also marked the first time since “The Exorcist” in 1973 that the year’s most lucrative movie had a top-billed female protagonist.

    10. The two “Mockingjay” movies were filmed back-to-back. The epic-length production involved 152 days of shooting over the course of 10 months, in locations that included Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Paris, and Berlin.
    11. Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s death in 2014 occurred when he had just seven days of shooting left, on two scenes as game designer/rebel propagandist Plutarch Heavensbee.

    12. Initially, the filmmakers contemplated using digital trickery to generate a performance for those two “Mockingjay — Part 2” scenes (as was done for Oliver Reed when he died during production of “Gladiator”), but the scenes were ultimately rewritten so that they didn’t involve his character.

    13. “Mockingjay — Part 2” is being released throughout most of the world in 2D and 3D versions, but here, where 3D fatigue has set in, it’s just in 2D.

    14. Although Suzanne Collins wrote only three “Hunger Games” books, studio Lionsgate has announced it’s hoping to develop sequels and prequels to keep the franchise going, the way Warner Bros. is doing with “Harry Potter.”

    15. Over the next four years, Lionsgate is preparing at least three theme park attractions based on “The Hunger Games,” one in Dubai, one in Macao, and one north of Atlanta. Presumably, guests will not be forced to kill each other.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Jennifer Lawrence’s 2 Most Embarrassing Moments, Justin Theroux’s Eyebrow-Acting Contest

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Come dance with “The Tonight Show” Wednesday night to promote the final “Hunger Games” movie, and you had to know Jimmy Fallon was going to put her to work. They discussed their shared habit of falling down a lot, and Jen insisted it’s not a shtick. She also shared her two most embarrassing stories, because Jen wouldn’t be Jen without endearing, relatable anecdotes: The first involved a woman who was NOT Elizabeth Taylor, but Jen really thought she was; the other involved the real Francis Ford Coppola, her bare feet, and a revealed thong.
On to the dancing! Jen and Jimmy talked about how there’s this instructional dance video that airs on QVC at 3 a.m., featuring two dancers who look a lot like the two of them. Cue the “Come Dance With Us!” video, with J&J rocking some amazingly outrageous outfits (those sleeves — keep them) and showing off dance moves like “Lunchbox Salute,” “Bowling Confetti,” and “Disco Binoculars.” Gold. Obviously, they should really make a dance video and put it on the market.
Speaking of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” insisting that Jen does not fall down at purpose. “She is terrible at walking.” He told a story of walking around in London with her when one of her heels broke down at the back of a theater. She also fell in Spain and Berlin. “I’m constantly surprised by how much she falls down without trying at all.” He just said she’s “a clumsy, clumsy girl.” Maybe she should skip the long gowns and only wear flats?
Jimmy Kimmel spoofed the extension of the “Fast & Furious” franchise with more prequels and spinoffs by showing a (fake) new trailer from the perspective of fuzzy dice:
Justin Theroux — who is CRUSHING it over on “The Leftovers” — was on “The Late Show” and challenged Stephen Colbert to an eyebrow-acting contest. Love it.
This sounds odd, but it’s kind of touching. John Cleese told an interesting story about his mother, who was an anxious and depressed woman with a black sense of humor. That was the way he could communicate with her. He didn’t want her to be depressed but she’d be “a little bit down this week” for “50 f–king years.” To try and cheer her up, he had a moment of inspiration that was a high point of his creativity. When she was about 92, she gave him all these reasons why she didn’t want to go on living. He said, if she still feels this way next week, he has a friend in Fulham he can call and he could come down and kill her. She was surprised, then howled with laughter. Justin Bieber did Carpool Karaoke with James Corden before, but here’s “Vol. 2,” featuring a very interesting conversation about the origin of the “Beliebers.”
Last but not least, here are Anthony Mackie and Rainn Wilson talking about their wives. Rainn just celebrated 20 years of marriage. (!) Anthony said he met his wife when he was 7. “She was the meanest person in the world.” She used to beat him up and take his lunch money. They got together when he was 28, after they hadn’t seen each other in about 20 years.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Cate Blanchett’s Lip Flip and James Corden’s ‘Late Late Show’ Binge

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Let’s get this party started with a game of Lip Flip on “The Tonight Show.” Yeah, it’s always weird and funny, but the addition of Cate Blanchett makes things particularly YAAAAAAS.

Over on “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert attempted to convince Bill Maher to join catholicism. He was…uh…not into it. Prepare for awkwardness.

Jimmy Kimmel Live” and chatted about his visit to the Great Wall of China, where Jennifer Lawrence forced him to lug around her Valentino bag. The explanation? “Jen didn’t want to carry her handbag anymore.” Bless this man. Bless his heart.

Speaking of Liam Hemsworth, his fellow “Hunger Games” star, The Late Late Show,” and was mocked mercilessly for it. Whatever, having a six pack and an Australian accent is hard, guys.

Finally (and also on “The Late Late Show”), James Corden was so inspired by Shia LeBeouf’s meta movie-watching extravaganza that he spent three days binging every single episode of his show. The results? Scary.

  • ‘The Dressmaker’ Trailer Has Sexy Kate Winslet, Shirtless Liam Hemsworth

Everything about “The Dressmaker” — a revenge dramedy described as “Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven with a sewing machine” — looks perfect. There’s gorgeous Kate Winslet in full glam mode as Tilly Dunnage, a beautiful misfit who returns to her middle-of-nowhere home in Australia after many years working as a dressmaker in Parisian fashion houses. There’s Liam Hemsworth, all shirtless perfection, as pure-hearted star footballer (and love interest) Teddy. There’s Judy Davis as Tilly’s ailing, eccentric mother. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s Hugo Weaving dressing in women’s clothes again.

“The Dressmaker” is based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, following Tilly as she transforms the locals with her fashions and, in the process, exacts revenge on those who once wrongly accused her of murder. Here’s the new international trailer from Universal Pictures Australia:

“The Dressmaker” will premiere in September at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and it’s set for release October 22 in Australia. We’ll have to wait and see what the official U.S. date turns out to be.

  • Liam Hemsworth’s Bond With Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence Is Even Closer Than You Think

Comic-Con International 2015 - Day 1 Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson have been squad goals ever since the first “The Hunger Games” movie was released in 2012. And now, after finishing up “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” their bond is stronger than ever.

“We’ve always had such a close relationship with each other,” Hemsworth told Moviefone Contributing Editor Jessica Wedemeyer at this year’s Comic-Con. “We always got along. We always really enjoyed being around each other. We literally know everything about each other. These people know more about me than most people in the world — too much probably! It’ll be a lifelong friendship.”

When it comes to spending time together, the trio likes to keep things pretty casual. “We don’t do a lot — usually just sit around and talk a lot of bullsh*t, pretty much. There’s a lot of giggling and talking nonsense,” he said.

So after being thrust into the spotlight along with Lawrence and Hutcherson, does Hemsworth feel like his new friendships and job came with too big of a price? “I try not to regret anything in my life. I try to learn from whatever I do.”

Don’t worry though, if he does find himself feeling a little overwhelmed, he’s got a plan. “Any time I do feel that feeling of regret, I try to look at it from a subjective point of view and try to figure out what I can learn form that situation. You can’t change what’s happened. It’s happened, and as long as you move forward in a positive way, I think that’s kind of the best thing to do.”

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” hits theaters November 20th.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Jennifer Lawrence Sings Cher’s ‘Believe’

    Jennifer Lawrence Sings Cher

Conan O’Brien is nerding out at Comic-Con, and by nerding out, we mean that he’s definitely hanging out with a bunch of A-listers. Last night, the late night host with the most had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth (aka the cast of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay –– Part 2“) and Josh accidentally revealed that they’re planning another movie….

But wait, it gets better. Jennifer Lawrence sang Cher’s “Believe.” You’re welcome, world.

  • SDCC: Watch the ‘Hunger Games’ Cast’s Mockingjay Whistle Fail

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2″ — even when they’re trying to whistle a tune from their own movie.

During the “Mockingjay” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, castmates Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth all tried — and adorably, hilariously failed — to replicate the series’s iconic Mockingjay whistle tone. But the trio, and the rest of their castmates on the panel, just could not nail the four-note melody, which was memorably used by Rue and Katniss in the first film, and brought back throughout the rest of the series as a Mockingjay rallying cry of sorts.

In video of the incident uploaded by Screen Crush, the actors all try numerous times to get the whistle down right, but to no avail. At one point, Hutcherson imitates crickets, which panel moderator Conan O’Brien joked was a frequent sound during his stand-up routines.

Hemsworth comes closest to whistling an actual song, but as X-Files” theme. Still in the science fiction genre, still not quite right.

Check out the hilarious video below, and try not to get too sad when you realize that this is the last “Hunger Games” panel at Comic-Con ever.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Charms Comic-Con, Reveals ‘Mockingjay Part 2’ Trailer

    The Hunger Games
Josh Hutcherson (L), Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth at Comic-Con International 2015.

The cast of “The Hunger Games” franchise made their final cast appearance at Comic-Con International on Thursday ahead of the saga’s conclusion in November when “Mockingjay Part 2” hits theaters.

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson thrilled fans as they held court in Hall H as they released the film’s full trailer.

For those who were outside the convention walls, only a short teaser was released at the time. Still, the dramatic footage available gave rise to plenty of comment on social media.

Some of the highlights from the panel included the cast performing the “Hunger Games” whistle, only to sound eerily similar to “The X-Files’” opening anthem.

To no one’s surprise, the infectiously likable Lawrence charmed fans.

The actors entered the auditorium with a dramatic introduction as they walked on stage following a drumline of performers clad in all white and Conan O’Brien serving as emcee. An attendee called the late-night host “amazing.”
