    ‘The Fall Guy’ is not just a rom-com between a stuntman and a director. It is also a love letter to the stunt community. As a former stunt performer, director David Leitch (‘Deadpool 2’, ‘Atomic Blonde’) paid extra attention to the action sequences and fight scenes in the film, ensuring they’re grand, authentic, and most importantly, highlight the men and women who perform them.

    The film is (loosely) based on the 80’s TV show of the same name, starring Lee Majors. In the show, Majors’ Colt Seavers works as a bounty hunter on the side, where his stunt skills come in quite handy in apprehending the wanted. In Leitch’s film, Colt is played by Ryan Gosling, who is tasked to find the missing action star Tom Ryder. All the while he is trying to win back the love of his life – Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt.

    Joining Gosling and Blunt are Aaron Taylor-Johnson (‘Bullet Train’), Hannah Waddingham (‘Ted Lasso’), Winston Duke (‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’), and Stephanie Hsu (‘Joy Ride’).

    The film premiered at SXSW on March 12, 2024, before arriving in theaters on May 3. ‘The Fall Guy’ opened to $27.7 million and has grossed $81.9 million domestically since. The movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes.

    Just under three weeks after its release, the action flick became available on digital platforms as of May 12, 2024. Missed it in theaters?     With former stunt performer David Leitch at the helm of a film about a stuntman, one can expect the movie to showcase some of the most daring stunt sequences. Not only is ‘The Fall Guy’ filled with spectacular action, but it broke the record for most cannon rolls in a film. The record was previously held by ‘Casino Royale,’ where James Bond’s Aston Martin rolled seven times as it swerved off the road.

    Performed by stunt driver Logan Holiday, the cannon roll sequence in ‘The Fall Guy’ broke records when it rolled eight and a half times, setting the new record for most cannon rolls performed in a film.

    When Can I Get ‘The Fall Guy’ On Blu-Ray?

    They may come from very different screen worlds – Winston Duke is currently best known for playing M’Baku in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ (and is a winning part of sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ which just hit theaters), while British theatre actor Hannah Waddingham broke big with TV’s ‘Ted Lasso’ – but the pair of performers are about to unite on ‘The Fall Guy’.

    Stuntman-turned-expert action director David Leitch (‘Bullet Train’, ‘Deadpool 2‘) is behind the camera for the new movie, with Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Stephanie Hsu in front of it.

    And the concept itself was born from TV series.

    Originally created by prolific TV producer Glen A. Larson (whose small screen factory also cranked out shows such as ‘Buck Rogers’, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and ‘Knight Rider’), ‘The Fall Guy’ ran between 1981 and 1986, and starred Lee Majors as Colt Seavers.

    When his movie work starts to dry up, Seavers pivots to become a bounty hunter, using all the know-how he’s acquired to craft film action to track down and defeat swindlers, thieves, bikers, conmen, fugitives, and corrupt officials using his fists and his vehicle skills.

    Word of Leitch and Gosling’s take first surfaced in 2020, then referred to as ‘Unknown Stuntman Movie’ and backing via Universal.

    When Taylor-Johnson was cast, we got fresh information as to the storyline for this one, which looks to be largely jettisoning the side-hustle part of the original show.

    Gosling is playing the battered and past-his-prime stuntman who finds himself back on a movie with a star he worked with long ago and who replaced him. The problem, however, is that the star is now missing…

    Taylor-Johnson will be the movie star that Gosling is doubling, while Blunt is a prosthetic makeup artist that has a romantic past with our hero. Hsu, on screen this year in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ will be a no-doubt harried assistant to Taylor-Johnson’s character.

    Duke is on board to play the best friend of Gosling’s character, while Waddingham will bring all of her comic and dramatic chops to the role of the movie’s producer, likely none too happy that her production is going off the rails.

    Given Leitch’s experience (and Gosling’s past playing stuntmen in ‘Drive’ and ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’), we’d expect a funny, action-packed movie.

    With a script from ‘Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce and cameras rolling in Australia, ‘The Fall Guy’ is taking aim at a March 1st, 2024, release.

    Now that the pieces have fallen into place (on a crash pad, we hope), director David Leitch and star Ryan Gosling are pushing their movie adaptation of ‘The Fall Guy’ into top gear.

    Emily Blunt joined the cast recently, and the latest addition is Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

    In other casting news, the ever-busy Florence Pugh has another acting job. And it’s an intriguing one – as according to Deadline, the new movie is Alexander Skarsgård’s directorial debut ‘The Pack.’

    Rose Gilroy, who wrote ‘Project Artemis’, which Greg Berlanti now making starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, also scripted this new psychological thriller.

    Skarsgård will kick off shooting in March, and the story follows a group of documentarians who brave the remote wilderness of Alaska in an effort to save a nearly extinct species of wolves.

    When the crew is brought back together at a prestigious awards ceremony, tensions flare as a deadly truth threatens to unravel their work. This team lived through the harsh elements of the wild but will a secret they share survive the night?

    Skarsgård will star alongside Pugh as well as directing.

    Director David Leitch’s adaptation of 1980s TV series ‘The Fall Guy’ already boasts Ryan Gosling in the lead. Leitch is boosting the A-list quotient with the addition of Emily Blunt.

    The movie has been in development for a while now, with Leitch waiting until he finished work on ‘Bullet Train’ before starting prep on this next project.

    ‘The Fall Guy,’ which boasts a script by Drew Pearce (who co-wrote ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ for the director), adapts the 1980s TV series.

    Originally created by prolific TV producer Glen A.     Leitch feels like the right man for this job, since he’s someone who has spun a career as a successful stuntman into an even more impressive run of directing action movies, will be behind the camera for the new movie. He’ll bring his own experience to the idea, having spent years doubling the likes of Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme before making movies such as ‘John Wick’, ‘Atomic Blonde’, ‘Deadpool 2’ and more. Gosling has recently shown he can do the action star thing in ‘The Gray Man’, which Netflix is celebrating as a big hit, with sequels and spin-offs on the way.

    And Blunt is no slouch when she tries her hand at action thriller field – most notably as the tough Rita “Rose” Vrataski, a no-nonsense soldier engaged in combat against an alien threat in ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ It says something when an actor can hold their own against Tom Cruise.

    We don’t yet know what the story will be for the new movie (presumably some take on the show’s concept), or exactly who Gosling and Blunt will play. But you can be sure the action will be next level (Leitch is truly an old hand at that stuff) and probably with a throughline of humor like ‘Bullet Train.’

    All that is concrete so far is that Universal has set this one for a March 1st, 2024 launch in theaters.

    Dwayne Johnson was attached to star in a version back in 2013, which had McG on board to direct and a script from Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller.

    Word about Gosling and Leitch teaming up first broke back in 2020, though the movie was then simply listed as ‘untitled stuntman action drama’.

    We still don’t know all that much about how the new movie will channel the show. When Leitch and Gosling were first attached to the film, there was mention of Leitch’s ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ writer Drew Pearce (who also worked on ‘Iron Man 3’ and directed ‘Hotel Artemis’) tackling the screenplay, but Variety’s story doesn’t mention him.

    ‘The Fall Guy’ is all coming together partly because the Australian government is offering $45 million in incentives to have the movie shoot in Sydney.

    He’s also been busy filming ‘Barbie’, which stars Margot Robbie and will be out on March 21st next year.
