  • 11 Things We Know About Netflix’s ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival

%Slideshow-362019% Following months of rumors, Gilmore Girls” fans have waited years to hear: The show is officially coming back for a short run of new episodes, set to debut later this year. We still have tons of questions about our titular heroines (do Luke and Lorelai end up together? Did Rory become a famous journalist?), but we already have some answers about what to expect from this revival. Here’s everything we know so far. Copper boom!

  • It’s Official: ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Is Coming to Netflix This Year

New Warner Bros. TV StillsFellow “Gilmore Girls” fans, our prayers have been answered: After months of rumors, Netflix finally, officially confirmed that a revival of the beloved series is indeed coming to the streaming service.

Netflix made the announcement on social media late on Friday afternoon, posting a photo on Instagram of Rory’s Chilton uniform and Yale sweatshirt nestled next to a Netflix t-shirt, flanked by framed photos of a smiling Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham). “From Stars Hollow to Hartford to New Haven to Netflix. Welcome back, girls,” the streaming service captioned the photo. “An all new season of Gilmore Girls coming to Netflix in 2016.”

Graham later followed up with her own photo and social media post celebrating the news, sharing on Twitter a snap of her clutching one of Lorelai’s signature fabulous winter coats. “I CAN NOW CONFIRM: it’s time for me, and this jacket I stole in 2007, to return to work,” Graham wrote.

The actress had previously declined to comment on the revival rumors last fall, when reports first surfaced that Netflix intended to bring back the show for an all-new reunion miniseries. But there were way too many clues to ignore the obvious, including lots of “Gilmore”-centric activity on the Warner Bros. lot (home of the Stars Hollow set). And just this morning, we shared the news that Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos had almost certainly accidentally confirmed the revival, though he stopped just short of giving the official greenlight. Apparently, Sarandos was just gearing up for Friday’s big announcement.

E! News has some scoop about just who’s on board for the revival, including a whole bunch of new characters. First thing’s first: Yes, Graham and Bledel will be back, as will fellow stars Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, and Sean Gunn. Original creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her producing partner and husband Daniel Palladino are also returning to write, direct, and produce the entire thing. And here’s the rundown on the new faces we’ll see, per E!:

We’ll meet Berta and Alejandro, a Peruvian couple. Alejandro is both a handyman and a solid family man. Viewers will also meet Nat Compton, an incredibly miserable looking man who never smiles. Plus, there’s 13-year-old Dewey, Clementina, a Portuguese nanny, 7-year-old Tim and his 5-year-old sister Gabriela, 9-year-old Korean-American twins Stevie & Kwan and a whole bunch of hippies at a commune. Intrigued?

How about the pleasant 30-something Paul, a Michael Cera type described as “a good boyfriend,” the older high-end men’s magazine editor Jim, the blue-collar Dwayne, and the good-looking, eager 20-something Damon.

The twins are obviously Lane and Zack’s sons, and we’re pretty sure Clementina has to be Paris’s beloved childhood (and college) caretaker, though who everyone else is could be anyone’s guess. We’re assuming the latter gentlemen will be some sort of love interests for our titular twosome. (But seriously, if Luke and Lorelai don’t end up together, it will be unacceptable.)

Earlier reports indicated that the revival would be a four-episode miniseries of “mini movies,” with each 90-minute installment set to take place over the course of one of the four seasons. Netflix’s announcement didn’t mention anything yet about the format, so stay tuned. Where you lead, we will follow, “GG.”

  • There’s a Reason the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Is 4 Episodes

Gilmore Girls (WB) Season 1, 2000-2001Episode: Love and War and Snow Airdate: December 14, 2000Shown from left: Alexis Bledel (as Rory Gilmore), Lauren Graham (as Lorelai Gilmore)It’s been Gilmore Girls” revival, and now, there’s word that the limited series may feature a cool narrative twist.

TVLine reports that the entire season will take place over the course of one calendar year, with each of the four 90-minute mini-movies/episodes devoted to events that take place in one of the four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. If that wasn’t intriguing enough, there’s also more good news happening behind the scenes, according to TVLine:

AS-P [“GG” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino] and exec producer Daniel Palladino (AKA Team Palladino) will write and direct the entire revival, which will be set in the present day (or roughly eight years after the series ended). Negotiations with the show’s primary cast — Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson — are said to be underway.

We like that they’re not going to pretend that the entire cast hasn’t aged almost a decade, and deal with life in the present. And one present-day moment the series clearly needs to address is the loss of beloved Grandpa Gilmore, to mark actor Edward Herrmann‘s real-life death in 2014. We have plenty more ideas where that came from, and we’re excited to see what the Palladinos have in store. We’re also excited that Lauren Graham’s non-denial of the news appears accurate.

As for the season conceit, it definitely makes sense, considering how important winter/snow is to Lorelai (Graham) in particular. We’d love to see the series end with winter to reflect that significance. Maybe this revival will conclude with someone’s wedding in a snow-covered Stars Hallow? We can’t wait to find out.

Now if only we could somehow find a way to convince Mother Nature to cook up a bunch of new, different seasons so this revival could be longer…

  • Lauren Graham Responds to the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Netflix News

There’s been no official word yet from Netflix or any of the creatives involved, but that still hasn’t stopped us from getting positively giddy over the news that the streaming service may be reviving “Gilmore Girls” for a limited series run. Now, one of the titular stars has responded to the squeal-inducing news.

In a tweet sent out on Monday evening shortly after the news broke, Lauren Graham attempted to calm her frenzied followers — but also stoked the flames a bit, too.

“DUDES. I can’t confirm this,” Graham wrote, sharing a link to one of the original reports. “But I also can’t deny this…” she added. (She also retweeted a post from onetime “GG” guest star Madeleine Albright, who tweeted, “I hope the rumors are true!”)

That ellipses is pretty telling, since it clearly indicates that the actress has more she wants to say, but probably can’t just yet. After all, multiple sites reported that there are no current deals in place with any of the original cast members (though talks are ongoing, reportedly), and the show can’t possibly move forward without at least both Graham and Alexis Bledel attached. So Graham is probably trying to temper excitement for now, until everyone important (or available, anyway — they probably won’t be able to wrangle Melissa McCarthy) has signed on the dotted line, and the revival is officially greenlit.

It also indicates that Scott Patterson was right all along when he inadvertently spilled the beans back in May that something “Gilmore”-related was in the works. It’s likely that if Patterson knew way back then, Graham did, too — she was just waiting to say anything publicly until all the pieces were in place.

Regardless of who knew what when, we’re just glad that this really, truly appears to be happening. Keep your fingers and toes crossed, fellow fans.

  • Netflix Reviving ‘Gilmore Girls’ for Limited Series

Gilmore Girls“The Gilmore Girls” are back!

To much glee on Twitter, multiple outlets confirmed with sources that Netflix is reviving the beloved WB/CW dramedy for a four-episode limited series. It would be written by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, who left the series prior to the final season.

The episodes would be 90 minutes each, functioning more as mini-movies; “Gilmore Girls” is reportedly a top performer for Netflix. Stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, and Kelly Bishop are all in talks to reprise their roles.

“Gilmore Girls” ran for seven seasons, from 2000-2007, originally on the WB and then on the CW. It quickly became beloved by fans for its quirky sense of humor, loving relationship between single mother Lorelai (Graham) and daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel), and the whip-smart, pop culture-referencing dialogue.

While the key stars are all likely to return for the revival, other actors like Melissa McCarthy (who played chef Sookie St. James) are big question marks. Also, Edward Hermann (Richard Gilmore) passed away last year, and his absence will undoubtedly be noted on the new episodes.

Sherman-Palladino has spoken about the possibility of a reunion before. Just at this year’s ATX TV Festival in Austin, she said, “It would have to be the right everything — the right format, the right timing. If it ever happened, I promise we’ll do it correctly.”

Guess Netflix is doing it correctly! Now, Sherman-Palladino — who left over a contract dispute — will get to complete the series her way … including the mysterious final four words she always intended “Gilmore Girls” to end with.

  • 14 Highlights From This Weekend’s ‘Gilmore Girls’ Reunion

gilmore girls, atx fest, alexis bledel, lauren graham, kelly bishopThis weekend’s ATX Fest hosted a major milestone: A reunion of (almost) the entire cast of “Gilmore Girls,” including Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Danny Strong, Jackson Douglas, Matt Czuchry, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil, Liz Torres, Sean Gunn, and Yanic Truesdale. (Sadly, Edward Herrmann, who played Grandpa Richard Gilmore, passed away last year. Melissa McCarthy, meanwhile, is off being an international superstar.) The beloved WB series will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year, and since a new generation of fans is now discovering the show on Netflix, festival organizers thought it was high time to get the Stars Hollow gang back together for some reminiscing.

In a panel moderated by Entertainment Weekly, as well as a separate one-on-one interview with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, cast and crew spilled about their memories of shooting the pilot, which couples wound up together, and how Sherman-Palladino had to beg the network to cast a certain future Oscar nominee. Read on for some of the (many) highlights from the event below.

Sherman-Palladino didn’t have a script — or even a firm plot — when she pitched the show to The WB
The creator recalled that when she met with WB execs, the only concept for the series was “a mother and daughter who are more like friends.” When the network immediately expressed interest in buying the show, Sherman-Palladino had to scramble to write a pilot script, which she pounded out over a long weekend while staying at an inn. “I thought, ‘Maybe [the mother] works at an inn?’” the creator told the crowd. “And by the time Monday came around, it all came into place.”

That script immediately hooked leads Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, and Kelly Bishop
“The first time I read it and something really clicked,” Graham said, while Bledel said she had “an instant connection” to Rory. “I was looking at this like I own this woman,” Bishop recalled of her thought process while reading for the part of Emily. “I know who she is. I love these words.”

All of the series’s signature zippy dialogue (and copious pop culture references) made for some super-long scripts
“I turned in a pilot that was like 60-something pages,” Sherman-Palladino said. “We shot it and we were 15 minutes short. Legally you cannot put the program on when it’s that short. We had to shoot four extra scenes.” Graham revealed that “Gilmore” scripts were “at least 20 pages longer [than usual drama scripts],” but that meant that “We just had to speed it up.” (Graham also admitted that during especially difficult walk-and-talks, she was willing herself not to trip and fall.) As Sherman-Palladino explained to WB execs, “The way it’s written, if you say this stuff slow, it’s going to blow.”

There was a touching tribute to Herrmann
Panelists took time to reflect on the loss of the actor, who died of cancer in December. An empty chair was left on the stage in his honor, and Sherman-Palladino revealed that he was the first cast member to RSVP for the ATX Fest reunion. “It’s really crappy that he’s gone and we miss him so much,” the showrunner said. “I’m so grateful I got to hear him say my words.”

    The casting was serendipitous…
“It was lucky the two of them had blue eyes and the hair,” Sherman-Palladino says of finding the right Lorelei and Rory. “It was like pixie dust.” As for casting Scott Patterson as curmudgeonly diner owner Luke, the creator said she thought at the time, “It’s literally the stars align[ing].” Sherman-Palladino also said she had her eye on actors Milo Ventimiglia and Matt Czuchry, who played Rory’s boyfriends Jess and Logan, and specifically sought them out for the show.

…but Sherman-Palladino had to make a case for Melissa McCarthy to play lovable chef Sookie
Amazingly, the biggest star to come out of “Gilmore Girls” almost didn’t make the casting cut. While McCarthy (who was off promoting her newest flick, “Spy,” and couldn’t attend the panel) was Sherman-Palladino’s first choice for the part, it took some convincing for The WB to give the go-ahead. “To get Melissa, I had to fight,” the showrunner said. “She had a different energy. The part was written for a woman, there was no body type. They just weren’t sure. It was a tricky sell. It took a while. Everybody came around. It just took a few shows. She is different and different is sometimes not the easiest thing to embrace, but that’s true of life. If we want people to embrace more Melissa McCarthys and more complicated parts… we have to keep writing the parts, fighting the fights and be willing to be fired to say, ‘Mr. Person with Money, you’re wrong.’”

Graham has never seen the series
“I haven’t watched myself on television since 1995,” Graham revealed. “I’m not kidding. I don’t find it helpful.”

Luke and Lorelai (probably) ended up together
The fate of Graham and Patterson’s characters was left a bit up in the air when the series signed off in 2007 (though they did share a major kiss before the credits rolled). What ever happened to the on-again, off-again pair? Patterson thinks Luke may have closed his diner in Stars Hollow and relocated to a secluded lake, where he opened a baitshop. “Does he have a girlfriend?” Graham asked her former costar. “Lorelei is coming out for a fishing lesson,” Patterson said. Later, Graham said she thinks “they’re together 100 percent,” and when asked by a fan if the pair ever married, the actress replied, “I think they probably did.”

No one can agree on who Rory should have ended up with
All of the actors behind Rory’s former boyfriends appeared at the event, and all had different ideas about who would make the best match for the younger Gilmore Girl. Jared Padalecki, who played first boyfriend Dean, declared himself “Team Jess,” while Ventimiglia, who played Jess and stole Rory away from Dean, deadpanned that he was “Team Dean.” Czuchry, who played snooty college boyfriend Logan, also declared himself “Team Jess,” though Ventimiglia couldn’t help but chide him, “Logan was a d–k.” As for Patterson, he’s still holding out for someone better for Stars Hollow’s golden child. “None of you are good enough for Rory,” he said, as the crowd cheered. (But seriously: The correct answer is Team Jess.)

According to Graham, the Lorelai line she hears quoted most often by fans is…
    “Oy with the poodles, already!”

The network pushed for Rory to have sex
By season four, WB execs were getting antsy about Rory’s still-intact virginity, and chided Sherman-Palladino about it. “‘What’s the deal, is she like a nun?’” the showrunner recalled the network asking. Sherman-Palladino said she always knew she wanted Rory’s first time be with Dean, her idealized first boyfriend. “We weren’t trying to make a statement. We were trying to play the truth of who she was,” the showrunner said.

Lots of characters had happy endings
“I like to think Paris and Doyle are still together,” Lisa Weil said of Rory’s frenemy and former Yale Daily News editor. “I think they’re really well matched. I hope they’re supporting each other taking over the f—ing world.” Danny Strong added that he thinks the pair would have wound up married. Liz Torres, who played Miss Patty, thinks the Stars Hollow dance teacher eventually became mayor of the town, while Padalecki said Dean probably took over Doose’s Market from Taylor.

Despite some controversial storylines (Lorelai marrying Christopher, Rory stealing the yacht and leaving Yale, most of season seven), no one would change anything that happened on the show
“No, I’m too old to regret,” Sherman-Palladino said during the panel. She added during her one-on-one interview, “I’m so incredibly amazed at what we got to do. The legacy is there. I’m still on speaking terms with the entire cast. When does that happen?”

Everyone wants to do a reunion movie — but, sadly, there’s nothing currently in the works
Patterson perhaps jumped the gun a bit when he suggested during a recent podcast appearance that a movie reunion was in the making, and appeared a bit sheepish about those remarks during the panel. But as he said Saturday, “It’s kinda time, don’t you think?” Unfortunately, there are no current plans for such a project, but that hasn’t stopped Sherman-Palladino from stoking the flames ever-so-slightly. “There’s nothing in the works at the moment,” she said. “[But] here’s the good thing: Nobody here hates each other. It would have to be the right everything—the right format, the right timing, it would have to be honored in a certain way. And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it. And if it ever happened, I promise you I’d do it correctly.” We’ll take it.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Eric Stonestreet, Stephen Amell Play ‘Name That Thing’; Keri Russell’s ‘Inflatable Flip Cup’ (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet and “Arrow” star Stephen Amell were on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night, and they competed in a fun game called “Name That Thing.” Spoiler alert! Eric won, but he admitted in one of his individual videos that Stephen probably should’ve won because the final round was to name a bunch of U.S. Presidents and Stephen is Canadian. Eric said Stephen knows more about the U.S. than Eric does about Canada, so it wasn’t quite fair. Eric also talked about pranking his “Modern Family” co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and shared his latest torture, sending him a sex toy in the mail. He’s a big football fan, too, and he and Jimmy discussed the Super Bowl. He won’t go to a Super Bowl unless the Kansas City Chiefs are competing. Stephen told Jimmy Kimmel he walked to the studio since he lives closeby. He walked over with a friend, which was a plan he made a long time ago in case he ever got to “do Kimmel.” “The Americans” star Keri Russell had to disguise her beauty in a giant inflatable fat suit to play “Inflatable Flip Cup” with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show.” Before playing the game they did an awesome little dance. Love her little “Mother!” shout during the game — and when she thew her empty cup at Jimmy. Jude Law – dressed interestingly, but always cool – was on “The Tonight Show” talking about his submarine movie “Black Sea.” He talked about jumping onto a speeding submarine in real life. Not a good conversation for anyone with claustrophobia. And apparently it smells “unique” on submarines; when you come out, you stink like a badger! Rainn Wilson was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and he’s a major “Star Wars” fan. He turned into a 12-year-old girl when he met Mark Hamill. He also shared his unique Chewbacca impression. Lauren Graham – love her – was also on “Late Night” and she discussed the final season of “Parenthood” and how she found out that “Gilmore Girls” was canceled. At least this time she knew that the show was ending. Brian Michael Bendis was also on “Late Night” and talked about “Marvel’s Secret Wars.” The whole Marvel universe is going to become different. Dean Norris was on “Conan” and talked about having a dance-off with “Dancing With the Stars” pro Derek Hough. Dean said he held his own, even if he couldn’t walk for a week afterward. Dean has a black belt from martial arts training, and he still does his own fight stunts. Olivia Munn was also on “Conan” and she talked about her racy dance scene with Johnny Depp in “Mortdecai.” He kept grabbing her boob for the scene – it was scripted, although Conan questioned who put that in the script.
