‘Star Wars: Episode IX’: Keri Russell Says She Has ‘The Coolest Costume’

The cast of “Star Wars: Episode IX” is under strict orders to be careful about what information they share, and Keri Russell showed just that while on “The Late Show” on March 26.

As a guest on the show, Russell was there to promote her first Broadway play, the revival of “Burn This.” She also faced a lot of questioning from host Stephen Colbert about her mystery character in “Star Wars: Episode IX.” She stayed strong, though, only revealing that her character has “the coolest costume.”

Although Colbert didn’t get much out of her, he made a valiant effort. He peppered the actress with some absurd and funny guesses about her role in the film. Watch below; they talk Star Wars starting at 2:45.

Russell stars in “Star Wars: Episode IX” alongside her “Burn This” co-star Adam Driver. Other actors starring in the film include Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’oBilly Dee Williams, and the late Carrie Fisher, among others.

“Star Wars: Episode IX” hits theaters Dec. 20.

  • Stephen Colbert’s Election Night Special Could Get Racy, Hints Showrunner

First Lady Michelle Obama Hosts Event For Spouses Of Government Leaders During UN General Assembly

Politics and nudity usually only mix in Anthony Weiner’s text messages, but that may not be the case on Tuesday.

“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert is scheduled to host a live election night special on Showtime Tuesday, and it sounds like we might get more than we bargained for. Chris Licht, showrunner and executive producer of “The Late Show,” hinted to Variety in a recent interview that Colbert and the writers may take full advantage of Showtime’s censorship rules — or, rather, lack thereof.

“There is one Showtime rule: If there’s male full-frontal nudity, it can’t be happy to see Stephen, if you know what I mean,” said Licht.

As you can imagine, that leaves writers with a lot of leeway, and it sounds like they welcome the opportunity to push the envelope. Go big or go home, right?

“For comedy’s sake, there may be some things we do on the show simply because we can,” said Licht. “The writers are very excited about the opportunity. I’ll just leave it at that.”

That there will be profanity already seems like a given, but nudity would be new territory. Of course, whether or not the show will actually go there remains to be seen.

The Showtime broadcast will be live on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT; a censored version of the special will air on CBS on Friday.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Will Forte’s Beard Test and Harrison Ford’s Halloween Costume

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Halloween is upon us, and Jimmy Kimmel won the day by wearing a Princess Leia costume — side buns and all. BUT WAIT: Harrison Ford also showed up, and instead of wearing a Han Solo costume, he dressed up as a giant Hot Dog. Obsessed.

Over on “Late Night,” Sean Diddy Combs (or as you might remember him, Puff Daddy) talked about the time he fell at the BET Awards, and he was surprisingly hilarious. In conclusion, Sean Diddy Combs is our new favorite person.

So what hijinks did the folks on “The Tonight Show” get up to? Will Forte showed up, had an anxiety attack about “fecal matter” living in his beard, got said beard tested, and then leaned on Jon Hamm for support during these trying times. (Also, he tested positive for a bacteria most commonly found in dirty sneakers…the horror.)
Finally, and most hilariously, Andy Richter revealed his job moonlighting as a “Pumpkin Agent,” a man who gets pumpkins into the biz during October. But how does he deal with client crisis like pumpkin suicide and pumpkin overdose? Watch below.
(Oh, also real quick, Late Show” and it was actually really good.)

  • Amy Schumer Among First ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Guests

Day 4 - 68th Locarno Film FestivalThe The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” has been announced, and includes a bunch of big names, ranging from Hollywood royalty to music superstars — and some quirkier choices that would have felt at home on “The Colbert Report,” too.

The first show, debuting on September 8, features previously-announced guests George Clooney and presidential candidate Jeb Bush, along with a musical performance from new “Late Show” bandleader Jon Batiste and his band, Stay Human. Some “special guests” are also slated to appear, though the show is keeping their names under wraps for now.

On September 9, Scarlett Johansson will stop by, as will eccentric SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk. Kendrick Lamar will serve as the musical guest.

September 10 will feature a sit-down with Uber CEO Travis Kalanick. Country star Toby Keith will perform.

And on September 11, Colbert will chat with the red-hot Amy Schumer, along with horror legend Stephen King. (King is most likely appearing to promote the upcoming Hulu miniseries of his novel, “11/22/63,” though we can’t help but hope that he and Colbert will just nerd out together instead.) Troubled Waters is slated to serve as the night’s musical guest.

It looks like a pretty great lineup to us, and despite Colbert’s pledge that he’s ditched his conservative alter ego, we’re hoping for some “Report”-esque antics with Bush, Musk, and Kalanick. “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” kicks off on September 8 on CBS.

  • Stephen Colbert Sheds Beard, Adds Bandleader in ‘Late Show’ Promos

stephen colbert, jon batiste, late showThe first promos for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” are here, and with them, Colbert loses his new beard, and gains a new bandleader.

The Colbert Report” in December and his work on “Late Show.” “Good news! I still exist!” the host excitedly declares, before explaining that he’s experimenting with a new look before beginning his new gig.

He then shaves off small portions of his beard one at a time, donning styles he dubs “un-Hitler,” “half Wolverine,” and finally, “classic clean Colbert.” But the comedian can’t help but be wistful about his shaven look, devoting a decidedly weird montage to his former facial hair that proves that he hasn’t shed his goofy sensibilities just because he’s moved down the dial.

The second promo introduces Colbert’s “Late Show” bandleader, Jon Batiste. While the clip suggests that Colbert merely decided on the musician after eating a plateful of beignets in New Orleans, a release from CBS helps fill in the blanks a bit more.

According to the network, Batiste (who made a memorable appearance on “The Colbert Report” back in 2014) has gained an international following with his band, Stay Human, and has performed with artists including Prince and Lenny Kravitz. He appeared as himself on acclaimed HBO series “Treme,” and also had a role in Spike Lee‘s 2012 flick “Red Hook Summer.” Batiste currently serves as Artistic Director at Large of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, and has a full-length album due out later this year.

“His music makes the audience feel so good, we may have to install a ‘Do Not Make Love’ sign,” Colbert said in a statement.

Batiste added in his own statement, “I’m thrilled! This is a match made in heaven. Get ready for a love riot in late night.”
