  • ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Reveals Full Cast and Synopsis as Production Begins

‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Reveals Full Cast and Synopsis as Production Begins

    Warner Bros.

The latest installment in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse series, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” has officially started production, and has also revealed its full cast list and film synopsis.

The flick, which will unite the two titular beasts for an epic showdown, has actually been in the works for several years, and is set to be a follow-up to last year’s “Kong: Skull Island” and next year’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Two stars of that latter film, Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler, are the only returning actors from either movie who will be appearing in “Godzilla vs. Kong.” (Is that considered a bit of a “King of Monsters” spoiler?)

The rest of the “Godzilla vs. Kong” ensemble includes Alexander Skarsgard (who’s reportedly playing the head of a military unit), Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri (“Gintama”), Eiza González (“Baby Driver”), Jessica Henwick (“Iron Fist”), Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”), and Demián Bichir.

Here’s the official synopsis for the flick:

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

“Godzilla vs. Kong,” directed by Adam Wingard (“You’re Next,” “Death Notice”), is due in theaters on May 22, 2020.

  • Hail to the King, Baby: The ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Trailer Is Here

Hail to the King, Baby: The ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Trailer Is Here

    Warner Bros/Legendary

    Whoa.

Today during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic Con, the first look at “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” was unveiled. And it looks great.

While the trailer starts out relatively slowly, with “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown on a urban rooftop, things quickly escalate, with Vera Farmiga’s Monarch (remember them?) biologist touting that the earth was once ruled by “titans” and that, for the earth to continue, it must be returned to them and then, well, things turn into a monster mash. Several of the most famous creatures from the classic Toho series of “Godzilla” movies, including King Ghidorah and Mothra, appear in their full glory. What is very apparent is that this new movie, from “Krampus” director Michael Dogherty, looks different than the 2014 film. This looks so fun and full of color, with a terrific cast (including Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance and returning cast members Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins) and some jaw-dropping moments. Hail to the king, baby.

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” opens on May 31, 2019.

  • Kyle Chandler Joins Millie Bobby Brown in ‘Godzilla 2’

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is ready for clear eyes, full hearts, and plenty of Eggos.

According to Variety, “Friday Night Lights” alum “Bloodline” star Kyle Chandler will play the father of “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown in the “Godzilla” sequel, which is scheduled for release March 22, 2019.

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is the follow-up to Gareth Edwards’s 2014 film “Godzilla,” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and Ken Watanabe. Watanabe is reportedly the only star likely to return for “Godzilla 2.” Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields. According to Dread Central, filming will begin in Atlanta starting June 19, but stay tuned for official details.

As Variety noted, it was announced in October 2015 that all future “King Kong” and “Godzilla” films would be developed by Legendary and distributed by Warner Bros., starting with “Kong: Skull Island,” which opens March 10. After “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is released in March 2019, fans can expect “Godzilla vs. Kong” to arrive May 29, 2020.

  • ‘Deadpool’ Director Tim Miller Corrects Reports About His Departure

Sorry, Kyle Chandler! Apparently you did not deserve to be dragged into the “Deadpool” drama.

When “Deadpool” director Tim Miller left/was dropped from the sequel, fans were left with the classic reason of “creative differences.” What creative differences? Unnamed sources filled in the blanks, including telling TheWrap that Miller and star Ryan Reynolds clashed over the potential casting of Kyle Chandler as Cable — Miller supposedly wanted him for “Deadpool 2,” Reynolds did not — adding that Miller reportedly wanted a more stylized sequel with Reynolds wanting to focus more on the kind of raunchy comedy that got the first film its R rating.

Well, hush on all that, kids, ’cause Miller told CG Garage it’s not true.

Here’s part of Miller’s “Deadpool” director talk (via Collider):

“I just want to say one thing to the geek audience out there, because it’s important to me what the geeks and nerds of the world think because they are my brothers and sisters. I didn’t want to make some stylized movie that was 3 times the budget. If you read the internet — who cares, really? But for those of you who do, I wanted to make the same kind of movie that we made before because I think that’s the right movie to make for the character. So don’t believe what you read on the internet. […] I wanted to do the same thing [as the first movie]. Kyle Chandler was not going to be Cable. All this stuff that I read kind of kills me.”

It sucks when “insiders” spread wonky intel, but you also have to wonder where it comes from — how much is half-true, or true to one person but a misinterpretation to another? And how the heck did Kyle Chandler get named so specifically as a source of conflict if he was never going to be Cable? And what did go wrong if Miller wanted the same kind of movie as before?

Reynolds recently weighed in on the director change, complimenting Miller and really going all-in to praise the new guy, David Leitch. The Deadpool actor/producer made a point to say how much Leitch could do on a smaller budget, which seemed to imply that Miller wanted something else.

  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Director Exits After Clash With Ryan Reynolds (Over Kyle Chandler?)

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t win?

Over the weekend, the surprising news emerged that “Deadpool” director Tim Miller would not be returning to direct “Deadpool 2.” Deadline reported it first, confirming from studio insiders that Miller’s “exit was over mutual creative differences” with star/producer Ryan Reynolds, in one instance over the potential casting of Kyle Chandler as Cable. Deadline said the split was amicable, though, and Miller is still high on Fox’s list of directors for future projects.

Miller didn’t have an official deal for the sequel, but he was developing the script. TheWrap added more details on (allegedly) what creative differences came to a head. They claim Miller and Reynolds hadn’t spoken for a while and had a pretty contentious relationship, not that “amicable” at all. Part of the tension reportedly came from Reynolds’s agents renegotiating his deal, with more money, casting approval, and creative controls for “Deadpool 2.” That’s understandable, but it slowed down the process and brought to light their differences in approaching the sequel.

Miller, TheWrap claims, wanted a more stylized sequel and Reynolds wanted to focus on more of the raunchy comedy. “Friday Night Lights” and “Bloodline” star Kyle Chandler was also reportedly a source of conflict, since Miller is said to have wanted him to play Cable, but Reynolds did not, and the studio ultimately backed Reynolds.

It’s sad to see Miller leave this franchise, after such a breakout hit in the 2016 film. But if the star and director couldn’t make it work as a team, then it’s not too shocking that Fox would stick with Reynolds — he is literally the face behind the character, and he is still keeping up a brilliant marking campaign on Twitter throughout the year. He is irreplaceable. Unfortunately, we now know his “Deadpool” directors are not. So who is next? Many fans hope “Ant-Man” and “Hot Fuzz” director Edgar Wright will step in, but we’ll have to wait and see.

And we still love you, Kyle Chandler. Don’t let the Merc With a Mouth get you down.

  • Kit Harington Hits on Kyle Chandler in Adorable Emmys Bit

68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Show

Clearly, Kyle Chandler is the man who rocks Kit Harington‘s chain. During the 2016 Emmy Awards, Kit Harington and Andy Samberg — co-stars of HBO’s “7 Days in Hell” — had a presenter bit where they aimed to create soundbites for next year’s Emmys commercial.

Part of the bit included Kit fake proposing to Andy, but also Andy saying “No, I won’t kiss you, Kyle Chandler,” while Kit said he would kiss the “Bloodline” star. Kyle Chandler was in the audience, and seemed totally fine with getting a kiss from Kit.

    It’s on.

Kyle might have some competition from Jimmy Kimmel, who revealed in his monologue that Harington’s “Game of Thrones” character, Jon Snow is his “freebie.”

So Kit seems to be rocking some chains, too.

  • Netflix Renews ‘Bloodline’ for Season 3

BloodlineReady for a trip back to the Keys?

Netflix has renewed its Florida-set original series “Bloodline” for Season 3. The dark family drama will return next year with 10 new episodes. Stars Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini, Sissy Spacek, Norbert Leo Butz, and Ben Mendelsohn are all expected to reprise their roles.

Season 1 explored the troubled dynamics within the Rayburn family and ended with the revelation that John (Chandler) killed his own brother, Danny (Mendelsohn), and siblings Meg (Cardellini) and Kevin (Butz) helped cover it up. Season 2 followed the Rayburns as they fractured over the fallout of Danny’s death. In the finale — spoilers ahead! — Kevin committed murder, while John was seen driving away from the Keys, possibly for good.

As Variety noted, season 2 received mixed reviews, which may be why Netflix waited to order a third season. Season 3 is likely to stream sometime next summer.
