Despite a troubled development process, which included scrapping footage and hiring a new showrunner, the Marvel/Disney+ series ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ arrived to praise and solid viewing figures this past March.

The show, which saw the return of Charlie Cox as superpowered blind lawyer Matt Murdock (who also battles crime as costumed vigilante Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio as powerful crime figure Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk effectively continued the story from the Netflix‘Daredevil’ series, albeit this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite comments from Cox in July (see more on that below), Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed the third season renewal in an interview with IGN.
‘Born Again’ follows Fisk who goes from being a gangster to a NYC autocrat mayor. Matt falls in love with therapist Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), but she winds up becoming an ally in the Fisk administration.
Season 2 will see the return of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones character. Also in the Season 1 finale, Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher returned and, in the very end, broke out of Fisk’s Red Hook jail.
In addition to the next two batches of Daredevil, the Punisher character will appear in his own one-off special co-written by and starring Bernthal and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. It’s been shot but has yet to confirm a premiere date.
What did Cox and D’Onofrio say about the chances of a third season?
While a second season had already been ordered (and shot for a 2026 launch), Cox in a statement at GalaxyCon seemed to indicate that it would serve as the final season.
Yet that was reportedly taken out of context and for his part, D’Onofrio took to social media to say:
“Good chance there will be a third [season].”
When will ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 be on screens?
While Season 2 is due next year, Season 3 won’t shoot until around the same time, so we can expect it to launch in early 2027.

Looks like the Defenders are getting back together. Well, some of them at least.
As part of its presentation at the big Disney Upfront this week (where the company touted its upcoming and returning shows in the hopes of luring advertising dollars), Marvel brought Krysten Ritter on stage to announce that she will appear as Jessica Jones in the second season of Disney+ series ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

This is what Ritter said about returning to the role:
“It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders’ and now joining the MCU. I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”
Ritter’s gritty, funny portrayal of the character was widely acclaimed, and she was a definite standout among the Netflix/Marvel heroes.
There had been talk that other Netflix characters might be making the leap, following Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil and his arch nemesis The Kingpin, AKA Wilson Fisk, as played by Vincent D’Onofrio.
Hopes remain high that Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage, a hulking hero with great strength and impenetrable skin, might also show up. And that’s it for the Defenders line up. There definitely was not anybody else we’d want to see.

One of the key characters during the Netflix/Marvel TV run, with her standalone series launching in 2015 and lasting for three seasons. She also appeared in the ‘Defenders’ team-up miniseries in 2017.
Jessica was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos and first appeared in ‘Alias #1’ (November 2001) as part of Marvel’s Max, an imprint for more mature content.
She gains super strength and the ability to fly (to some degree, it’s more like giant leaps) and relative invulnerability but the accident also kills her family (or so she thinks).
In the show, much as in the comic, she’s an extremely troubled young woman, an alcoholic who funds her life through working as a private investigator.
In Season 1, she must deal with Kilgrave (David Tennant), a cunning and sadistic mind manipulator who forced her to kill someone while under his power and effectively ended her brief heroic career.
A continuation of the ‘Daredevil’ series that aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018, ‘Born Again’ picks up with our hero Matt Murdock (Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, amid a continued fight for justice through his bustling law firm.
At the same time, former mob boss Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
Season 2 will pick up after the cliffhanger of the first, in which crime lord Fisk violently consolidated power, leading Matt to go underground and begin reaching out to allies to resist Fisk and his anti-vigilante task force. Jones will be part of that group of allies.
“People were watching it as a season four, not at as a first season. It’s given us the confidence of making the show annually into the future.”
Just don’t got expecting this to open any floodgate for other characters, according to the executive:
“It’s about not rushing and telling the best story. Yes, it’s exciting to think about characters interacting, but it’s about the reasons why. At times we’ve done that very well, at times we’ve rushed. The story has to lead the path.”
The show follows Riri’s further adventures as she works on her technological creations (including her version of the Iron Man suit) and encounters some dangerous villains.

Opening in theaters on December 20th, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ marks the third outing for the popular movie franchise spawned by the video game character best known for super speed and collecting rings.
The former is on full display in this new film, which reunites much of the major players from the previous movies, while the idea of the portal rings largely takes a backseat (aside from a couple of key moments).
And this movie offers largely more of the same, albeit with a little more entertainment value from the occasionally stalled second entry.
Will ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Run Away with Your Praise?

The ‘Sonic’ movies by this point are certainly a known quantity. You have Ben Schwartz providing chatty energy as the lead character. Solid support from the likes of Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as fellow video game-birthed characters Knuckles and Tails respectively (since this is a franchise that employs the strategy of hoovering up characters from previous installments and turning rivals into family). Lots of silly gags. Jim Carrey snacking on the scenery in pure pantomime fashion.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ doesn’t break any of these rules, but it does deploy them effectively, while wrapping in much of the love-can-triumph-over-vengeance themes and making good choices concepts that parents might hope for (even if we’ve seen them many, many times before).
Script and Direction

The script from returning writing veterans Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington is also hewn from familiar rock. We’re re-introduced to Sonic and friends attempting to get in some downtime at a campsite (while also celebrating the anniversary of the spiky hero’s arrival on Earth), only for a powerful new threat (Keanu Reeves’ Shadow the Hedgehog) to put those plans on hold.
It’s full of what you expect from a ‘Sonic’ movie but put together with enough style and fun to make it worthwhile. The dynamics between the various characters are established and there are enough surprising new elements (more on that when we get to the “performances” section) to keep things moving at a decent clip.

While there are some expected, slightly mawkish emotional moments along the way, there’s also some welcome undercutting of such easily exploited tropes. The story is never really the most important element –– expect the usual world-threatening McGuffin and a new antagonist with emotional issues.
As director, Jeff Fowler is also well versed in bringing the ‘Sonic’ universe to life, and he’s still on the top of his game here. The human characters (aside from Carrey’s) are mostly shoved to the sidelines (though James Marsden and Tika Sumpter do get a few decent moments) and the focus is on our titular hero.
The effects are still up to a decent, slightly cartoony standard (the days of “ugly sonic” are long behind us) and the action moves along at a solid clip.

The central combination of Schwartz’s winning motormouth delivery as Sonic and Carrey’s try-anything zaniness can eclipse all else, but there is a solid antagonist this time around.

Schwartz has really leaned into the fun as Sonic, and even though he’s only ever in a recording booth for the role, his contribution is clear. You can imagine the sheer number of alternate line-readings for each moment, and the actor delivers both the laughs and the emotional moments effectively.

If you’ve seen the trailer, you know that the third ‘Sonic’ features double the Jim Carrey. Reports of Ivo Robotnik’s death at the end of the second movie are naturally exaggerated and he’s back. This time, Carrey not only gets to play a new side of the not-so-good Doctor, who we first meet here as a lazy slob binge-watching telenovelas.
But we’re also introduced to his grandfather Gerald, whose story is tied in with Shadow’s, and has some emotional resonance. The gusto with which he throws himself into the dual role is something to watch, and if this is what an actor does when they’re just picking up a paycheck (as he himself recently admitted, then other performers take note!

The main casting coup this time is playing the man who was Neo as the new “villain”, though with the actor’s soulful turns, he’s more than that. Reeves commits to the role of the bitter, vengeful character and works well against Schwartz’s excited energy.
Idris Elba as Knuckles

While Elba is typically low-key, he’s found a good gear as the echidna warrior, who is always ready for a fight, but is slowly coming to realize that being around Sonic and the rest is good for him.
Supporting Cast

As mentioned, human co-stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are certainly moved slightly to the side (though they both have roles to play in the finale). Colleen O’Shaughnessey is an effervescent Tails and there’s a welcome emotional growth even for the likes of Lee Majdoub’s Agent Stone, Robotnik’s loyal sidekick, who here sees some competition in the grandfather character.

While it certainly doesn’t re-invent the wheel when it comes to a ‘Sonic’ adventure, it has enough laughs to keep the family engaged.

The link between the defunct Netflix Marvel TV series and the current MCU is growing even closer. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who have both returned as their ‘Daredevil’ characters in Marvel Studios productions, are now reuniting for ‘Echo’, the spin-off from ‘Hawkeye’ that stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, according to The Weekly Planet podcast.
Cox played Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who boasts echo-location abilities and dons a costume to fight crime as the vigilante known as Daredevil in three seasons of the show named for the character, plus crossover miniseries ‘The Defenders’. D’Onofrio, meanwhile, was hulking villain Wilson Fisk, AKA The Kingpin, Daredevil’s arch enemy, in the first and third seasons of the show. ‘Daredevil’, along with other Netflix shows, was added to Disney+ this year.
D’Onofrio showed up as one of the antagonists in ‘Hawkeye’, and clashed with Lopez, so it makes sense for him to be back in ‘Echo’, especially as their confrontation ended in a cliffhanger.
‘Echo’ will explore more of Maya Lopez’s life as her time in New York as a gang leader catches up to her. She returns to her hometown and looks to reconnect with her Native American roots. But of course, it won’t be as easy as that.
Marion Dayre is head writer on the show, while Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie are directing the series, which is filming now and expected to arrive on Disney+ next year.
Marvel has naturally yet to officially comment on the return of Cox and D’Onofrio, but according to The Weekly Planet, part of Murdock’s story on ‘Echo’ will have him seeking out “a former ally” which is speculated to be fellow Marvel/Netflix veteran Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter.
The super-powered private detective appeared in three seasons of her own show, along with ‘The Defenders’, and was one of the most popular characters from the Netflix run. If she does indeed return, the only characters left to bring over (or turn into MCU versions) would be Luke Cage and The Punisher.
Oh, and Iron Fist. But does anyone really want to see him back? We’d happily see Coleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) from that show return, though.
Regardless, it’s exciting to speculate on whether the entire Netflix superhero team could one day reunite on Disney+.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is desperately trying to win back some public goodwill, after a disastrous few weeks of poor decision-making surrounding the Oscars telecast. And one way it’s hoping to mend some fences is by inviting a bunch of awesome people to serve as presenters at the ceremony.
This week, the Academy revealed another round of stars who will hand out awards at the Oscars, which will air without a host for the first time in 30 years. It remains to be seen how that choice will affect the broadcast, but at least the banter between presenters should be pretty solid, if this lineup is any indication.

Marvel and Netflix have officially parted ways: The streaming service has canceled its remaining two Marvel series, “The Punisher” and “Jessica Jones.”
Deadline reports that Netflix decided to put those series to rest, ending its marquee partnership with the comics powerhouse. Other Marvel series that were previously canceled by the streaming giant include “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist.”
In a statement released to Deadline, Netflix confirmed the most recent cancellations. It also said that the upcoming third season of “Jessica Jones” would still air on the streaming service as planned.
The statement said:
“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Netflix confirmed today to Deadline. “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come,” the streamer added.
“In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” Netflix also made official this President’s Day. “We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others”.
“We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning.”
Marvel released its own statement about the news, striking a bittersweet tone that also teased a possible continuation for some of its characters — perhaps on the upcoming Disney+? The statement said:
“It had never been done before. Four separate television series, each with different super-talented showrunners, writers, directors, cast and crew, coming out months apart and then …they would meet in a single event series all set in the heart of New York City. We called them The Defenders.
And together we were thrilled by stories of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and even the Punisher joined in! They said it couldn’t be done.But Marvel assembled amazing teams to write, produce, direct, edit, and score 13 seasons and 161 one-hour episodes. Krysten Ritter is making her directorial debut and she couldn’t be happier.
The “Jessica Jones” star will direct a Season 3 episode of the Marvel show she leads, Deadline reports. She told the publication that she is “beyond thrilled,” and then highlighted how much she appreciates the chance to sit in the director’s chair.
“I am beyond thrilled to make my directorial debut on ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones,’” Ritter told Deadline. “The entire crew and cast has become family to me, and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to work with our incredible team in this new way. I am so grateful that Melissa Rosenberg, Jeph Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix entrusted me to take the reins.”
Once the article was published, Ritter got to celebrate the news publicly.

“Jessica Jones” Season 3 is already filming, but so far, there’s no word on which episode Ritter will be directing or when the show will return. Season 1 debuted in 2015 and Season 2 in 2017, so the earliest we expect it to return is 2019. Whatever the case, we’re excited to see how Ritter’s episode turns out.

Netflix has officially renewed “Jessica Jones” for Season 3. The Marvel series will continue following the adventures of the titular private eye-slash-superhero. Krysten Ritter will, of course, reprise her starring role. That means we’ll get to see her return to saving the day with biting wit and equally dangerous special abilities.
Ritter celebrated the news on Twitter Thursday, raising an emoji glass and writing, “Here’s to season 3!”
The actress then moved over to Instagram, where she shared a photo of herself on set and celebrated some more.
“Cat[‘]s out of the bag!” she wrote. “Excited to finally be able to share that we are making another season of my favorite thing with my favorite people.”
The big news unfortunately didn’t come with any timeline for the show’s release, but we’ll look forward to watching “Jessica Jones” Season 3, whenever that may be.

Although she participates, Jessica lets her emotions get the best of her and ends up showing her super-strength and scaring everyone.
The trailer hints that Jessica will ultimately channel her rage into helping people. She did her best to mind her own business and drink her pain away in Season 1, but that didn’t work out so well. It looks like it’s time for her to take another approach.
