“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is coming to Netflix later this year. “Mad Men” breakout Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina Spellman.

The show comes from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, creator of The CW’s “Riverdale,” which is in the same universe as this Sabrina series. They’re both Archie Comics characters, and Aguirre-Sacasa is Chief Creative Officer at Archie Comics.

He’s been teasing out photos and details on the upcoming Sabrina series, including — a few months ago — the first look at the live-action Salem the cat. He just shared the first poster, which puts Salem right at the center of things, where he belongs:

“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is meant to be a lot darker than Melissa Joan Hart’s “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” It was first going to be a companion series to “Riverdale” on The CW, but Netflix picked it up for a straight-to-series order.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“The show will reimagine the origin and adventures of the comic book character Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. It’s described as in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. […] Sabrina Spellman is described as an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.”

The series also stars Jaz Sinclair, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, and Tati Gabrielle. Bronson Pinchot is also meant to recur as Baxter High’s villainous principal.

We’re still waiting on a trailer and premiere date.

  • Netflix’s New ‘Sabrina’ Series Confirms ‘Chilling’ Title With New Photo

Something wicked this way comes … fairly soon.

Netflix is bringing Archie Comics character Sabrina Spellman back into our lives, this time played by Kiernan Shipka. The dark new series adapts the horror comic called “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa just confirmed the show’s title is exactly what you thought it would be.

Aguirre-Sacasa also shared what might be the official logo for the series, and a look at the new Sabrina herself:

    Kiernan Shipka retweeted:

We still don’t have a first trailer or a premiere date, but it feels like that’s coming soon. The series is expected to air in 2018, and since we’re talking about horror and witches, would October be too obvious? We’ll see.

The rest of the cast includes Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s best friend Rosalind Walker; Ross Lynch as Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey Kinkle; Miranda Otto as Sabrina’s witch aunt Zelda Spellman; Lucy Davis as Sabrina’s other witch aunt Hilda Spellman; Chance Perdomo as Sabrina’s warlock cousin Ambrose; and Michelle Gomez as Mrs. Wardell, a.k.a. Madam Satan.

A while back, we also got a first look at the most important Greendale resident, Salem.

Don’t forget that “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is set in the same universe as “Riverdale,” and the two series share Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as creator. A crossover is probably going to happen at some point.

  • Meet the New Salem the Cat in First Photo From Netflix’s ‘Sabrina’ Series

The TRUE star has been revealed!

Netflix still doesn’t have an official title for its new take on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” but now it does have an official Salem the cat. Kiernan Shipka landed the lead role of Sabrina in the adaptation of the Archie Comics graphic novel “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” As you know, Melissa Joan Hart is still most famous for playing Sabrina, alongside sarcastic Salem Saberhagen, a witch sentenced to life as a cat.

Netflix’s new one-hour drama comes with a two season straight-to-series order; the dark coming-of-age story will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer — and “Riverdale” showrunner — Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Aguirre-Sacasa shared the first glimpse of the new Salem:

What do you think of the new Salem vs. the old (animatronic puppet) Salem?

The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that actress Jaz Sinclair (“Easy,” “The Vampire Diaries”) was cast in the series regular role of Rosalind Walker, “the brash, empowered and outspoken daughter of Greendale’s minister and Sabrina’s best friend at Baxter High.” So now we have three cast members — Sabrina, Rosalind, and Salem.

This version of Sabrina’s story is meant to be more serious than the Melissa Joan Hart version. Here’s a description from Archie Comics:

“An empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, Sabrina is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world. […]

Netflix’s Untitled Sabrina Project is based on the critically acclaimed CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA graphic novel from Archie Comics written by Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack, detailing the compelling and shocking re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s occult origins.

This dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.”

Last year, Aguirre-Sacasa teased Sabrina’s possible appearance on “Riverdale” to EW:

“Some people don’t even know that Sabrina is in the Archie family. There is absolutely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale or one town over in Greendale. Certainly, the priority is launching Riverdale and making sure that show is as good as it can be and as embraced as we want it to be. I’ll just tease that Sabrina has potential with a capital P.”

Stay tuned for more details, official images, and a premiere date.

  • Kiernan Shipka (Perfectly) Cast as Netflix’s ‘Sabrina’ in ‘Riverdale’ Spinoff

“Mad Men” alum Kiernan Shipka, 18, has landed the lead role in Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch series. There’s no official title yet, but it’s based on the Archie Comics graphic novel “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”

According to “Riverdale” showrunner — Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. This Sabrina series was originally seen as a potential companion series for “Riverdale” on The CW before it moved to Netflix.

US-ENTERTAINMENT-TELEVISION-EMMYS-ARRIVALSHere’s a description of Kiernan Shipka’s character, from Archie Comics:

“An empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, Sabrina is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world. […]

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa issued a statement on the casting:

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own.”

In addition to “Mad Men,” you may know Shipka from Lifetime’s “Flowers in the Attic” or her role as Bette Davis’ teen daughter in “Feud.”

As EW pointed out, Jason Blossom traveled to the Greendale side of the river in the “Riverdale” Season 1 premiere, and Greendale is Sabrina’s hometown. Could Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina appear on “Riverdale,” before her Netflix run? Time will tell.

Fans were very happy with the casting news, getting Kiernan Shipka’s name trending on Friday:

There’s no premiere date yet for the Netflix series, and we’ll have to wait and see if “Riverdale” introduces her first in some kind of backdoor pilot or whatnot.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Naomi Campbell’s Runway Walk with James Corden and Katharine McPhee’s Tax Day Carol (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Naomi Campbell is celebrating her 29th year modeling, so naturally she visited “The Late Late Show” and taught James Corden how to strut his stuff on the runway. Watch James, Naomi, Nick Kroll, and Katherine McPhee get their model on in the clip below. You seeing this Karl Lagerfeld? Because you should probably hire James for FW2015.

Yesterday was Tax Day (oh joy!), and the entire country was in the mood to celebrate. Or, at least James Corden was. He and Katherine McPhee teamed up to sing Tax Day carols set to the tune of some popular Christmas songs –– because after all, this is “a time when Americans joyously donate up to 39.6 percent of their income to the government!”

Hilary Clinton is running for POTUS, which gave the hilarious folks at “Jimmy Kimmel Live” an opportunity to hit the streets of L.A. to ask people their thoughts and feels on some faux campaign logos. The results? Amazing as usual.

Kiernan Shipka is wrapping up “Mad Men’s” final season, but did you know she got her start doing skits on “Jimmy Kimmel Live?” In fact, Kiernan booked “Mad Men” in the “Kimmel” parking lot. Check out her impersonation of Britney Spears below!

In case you aren’t aware (doubtful!), David Letterman’s retiring and celebrities the world over are super bummed. Apparently, Amy Sedaris is a huge fan of David, so she decided to sing a medley for him during her appearance. Good times!

Finally, Ice Cube has a lot of feelings about twerking, and he’s making them known on “Conan.” That is all.

The final episodes of “Mad Men” are upon us, but before we look toward the future of these iconic characters, let’s remind ourselves how far they’ve each come. Audiences have watched Don Draper and company for seven seasons. This group has spanned decades, rolled with the changing times and plenty of highs and lows, as well as grown older, but that hasn’t made any of them any less entertaining or complex. Before their stories come to a close, take a look at the “Mad Men” cast when we first met them compared to now…
