  • Dwayne Johnson Has No Weakness in New ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Trailer

A board game gets quite the update in the latest “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” trailer.

Released by Sony Pictures Entertainment on Wednesday, the second full preview shows how Jumanji has evolved since the its 1995 predecessor. Now a video game, it sucks four teenagers into its world, putting them in the bodies of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. That’s a crazy experience for them, especially because their avatars’ bodies don’t correspond with their usual ones.

In the trailer, we see nerdy gamer Spencer (Alex Wolff) end up as the burly archaeologist and explorer Dr. Smolder Braverstone (Johnson); athlete Anthony (Ser’Darius Blain) lose height to become zoologist Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Hart); cheerleader Bethany (Madison Iseman) turn into male professor Shelley Oberon (Black); and shy Martha (Morgan Turner) become the tough commando Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan). The adjustment is difficult for all of them, but some more than others. Bethany, for example, doesn’t like becoming “an overweight, middle-aged man,” and Anthony isn’t happy to lose his physical prowess, especially when Spencer has no weakness.

It’s hilarious to watch them adapt and learn the rules of the game; watch below.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” will be unleashed in theaters on Dec. 20.

  • Hilarious ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Trailer Explains Karen Gillan’s Costume

The first trailer for “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” just arrived, and not only does it look like more fun than a sequel to “Jumanji” has any right to be, it also answers a few questions.

When photos first came out for the “Jumanji” sequel, many fans wondered why Karen Gillan‘s character was dressed in a skimpy outfit, when everyone else was dressed more practically for jungle exploration. At the time, she tweeted, “Yes I’m wearing child sized clothes and YES there is a reason! The pay off is worth it, I promise!” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said all of the costumes would make sense “soon.”

Well, “soon” is now. Turns out, the twist of this sequel follows four teenagers who get transported to the world of the video game, trapped in the avatars they chose.

So the pretty blonde who picked “curvy genius” is shocked to find herself in the body of Jack Black, aka “an overweight middle-aged man.” The nerdy guy now in the body of The Rock is unnerved to realize he doesn’t have his Claritin (and he tries hard not to cry) and the overachiever now in Gillan’s body wonders why she’s wearing half a shirt and short-shorts in the jungle.

“[The character is] very knowing about what’s happening and calls it out, like, ‘What is it about these games? Why do people look like this and dress like this?’” producer Matt Tolmach told Entertainment Weekly. “There are so many people who know this world of video games, and it’s really great to be able to have fun with some of the tropes.”

Here’s The Rock introducing the trailer:

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” opens December 20.

  • New ‘Jumanji’ Movie Will Feature Video Game Instead of Board Game

JumanjiThe new “Jumanji” movie is getting a technology update.

Footage shown at CinemaCon revealed that the not-a-reboot update of the beloved 1995 film will feature a video game that traps its players instead of a board game.

Star Dwayne Johnson presented the clip, which begins with four high school students in detention. As punishment, they have to clean out the school’s basement, where they discover an old video game console. Each student picks a character to play and suddenly, they’re transported to the jungle as those characters.

Those avatars are embodied by Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black. The nerdy kid is delighted to find himself sporting Johnson’s buff physique, while the popular girl is horrified to be in Black’s body.

“I was a fan of the original movie, and I felt like this [update] really honored it, and included a lot of the stuff that I loved about the original movie, but did it in a really new way,” director Jake Kasdan told Deadline.

“It really holds up. You go back and watch it — it’s a very unusual and original kid’s movie. It’s unusually scary and magical, in a way that’s different from a lot of other magical kid’s movies.”

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” opens in theaters December 22.

  • The Rock Stands by ‘Fast 8’ Insults, Calls More Actors ‘Candy Asses’

LA Premiere of "Central Intelligence" - ArrivalsBless Dwayne Johnson for standing by his own mouth. He is not sorry for blasting some of his male “Fast 8” co-stars as “chicken sh*t” and “candy asses,” even though he told the L.A. Times that Universal Pictures execs “talked” to him after his Instagram outburst. Instead of walking it back, The Rock just pointed out that it was actually a great publicity boost for “Fast 8.” Heck, he may even be expecting flowers.

You read his Instagram rant back in August, and Johnson — recently dubbed the Sexiest Man Alive — was just asked about it in a chat with the L.A. Times. Here’s that part of interview:

“I was very clear with what I said. I’ve been in the game a long time,” he said with a knowing smile. “Would Universal have preferred that didn’t happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest shot through the roof to a whole other level.”

Yep, he’s basically bragging about it. As a reminder, here’s what he posted over the summer, in what was rumored but never confirmed to be in part about Vin Diesel:

“This is my final week of shooting #FastAndFurious8. There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ’em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken sh*t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right. Bottom line is it’ll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that’s embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part??. Final week on FAST 8 and I’ll finish strong. #IcemanCometh #F8 #ZeroToleranceForCandyAsses”

However, “candy asses” can also be a term of endearment for The Rock. Witness his recent post about filming “Jumanji,” an experience he seemed to genuinely enjoy. In the Instagram video below, his co-stars jokingly call him an a**hole and tell him to kill himself and eat d*cks. In the caption, he calls them “candy asses,” too:

A video posted by therock (@therock) on

“‘Go kill yourself and eat d*cks’ has just become one of my all time favs. Thanks Kev. ????????
In a huge action sequence I’m hanging off the side of a helicopter saving the lives of my co-stars @karengillanofficial, @jackblack, @nickjonas and @kevinhart4real.. and this is the gratitude they show. For the record, I’m the one 800ft in the air being fearless while they sit on their candy asses by the monitors with their little microphones talking sh*t. The #SexiestManAlive is about go down there and knock some lungs loose. I TRULY LUV these crazy bastards and no one is having more fun on sets than us and our hard working crew. #FridayNightShinannigans #WorkHardPlayHard #OnLocation #Atlanta #Jumanji”

They’re a real family! You can tell by the tone of the video and the caption that he’s just goofing around with this group, and there’s nothing but love. The “Fast 8” actors? Eh. Maybe not *all* love.

  • ‘Jumanji’ Release Date Pushed to December 2017

The upcoming reboot of “Jumanji” is getting a new release date, with studio Sony pushing back the debut from next summer to next winter.

“Jumanji,” the Dwayne Johnson flick that’s being billed as sort of a reboot-sequel-reimagining hybrid of the hit 1995 film (itself based on a 1981 children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg), was originally slated to hit theaters on July 28, 2017. Now, it will premiere on December 22, 2017. It’s now going head to head with hotly-anticipated threequel “Pitch Perfect 3,” animated flick “Ferdinand,” and ’60s reboot “The Six Billion Dollar Man.”

No official reason was given for the switch, though it’s probably due to the shifting release date of fellow Sony property “The Dark Tower,” which has moved from its original February 2017 date to “Jumanji”‘s old July release date. That flick needs some more time in post-production, and the studio didn’t want to rush it into theaters (or risk a ballooning budget by working overtime to get the special effects ready for an early 2017 date).

And Sony isn’t done adjusting its calendar yet. Also moving release dates are the Denzel Washington action sequel “The Equalizer 2” (from September 29, 2017 to September 14, 2018), the reboot of 1990s flick “Flatliners” (from August 18, 2017 to September 29, 2017), and long-awaited sequel “T2 Trainspotting” (from February 3, 2017 to limited release on March 3, 2017, and wide release on on March 10, 2017), which just released its first trailer on Thursday.

Stay tuned. With so many movies planned out so far in advance, it’s likely this calendar could shift once again.

  • The Rock and Kevin Hart Are Deep in the Jungle in First ‘Jumanji’ Set Videos

Premiere Of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Central Intelligence" - Arrivals“Jumanji” is set on world domination, one social media post at a time.

Earlier this week, the stars of the revival of the classic 1995 movie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, teased fans with the first photo of the cast. The two actors, along with Jack Black and Karen Gillan, began filming in Hawaii this week. Now, The Rock and Hart are upping their marketing game with videos from the set.

The Rock’s video is set “deep in the jungle” and he boasts that “this is as real as it gets. I have had no water, no food. I’ve been catching fish with my bare hands.”

Well, maybe he’s exaggerating just a little …

Meanwhile, in his video, Hart seems perturbed that filming has shut down on the set. Not because of the weather or tough conditions, but “because Jack Black needed to finish his rice.”

Better not do that around The Rock, Jack, or you risk being called out for being a candy ass!

“Jumanji” opens in theaters July 28, 2017.

  • ‘Jumanji’ Star Karen Gillan Promises There’s a Reason for Her Skimpy Costume

    jumanji, karen gillan, jumanji cast

When “Jumanji” stars Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson revealed the first photo from the upcoming film earlier this week, some fans were confused — and a little angered — by costar Karen Gillan’s get-up — or lack thereof. Now, the actress has responded to the uproar over the perceived sexism of her skimpy outfit, promising that there’s a specific purpose behind it.

In a Twitter post, Gillan acknowledged that she was wearing “child sized clothes,” but stressed, “YES there is a reason” for that costuming choice.

“The pay off is worth it, I promise!” the actress continued.

That echoes similar comments from Johnson, who took to Twitter with a similar message, writing, “Our costumes will all make fun sense soon.”

His initial Instagram caption also stressed that Gillan’s “jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot. Trust me.” The post has since been updated, with a new disclaimer encompassing all the characters pictured.

There have been several theories floating around about what the reasoning behind Gillan’s curious, Lara Croft-adjacent look could be, but our favorite is that she is a time-traveling, grown-up version of the first film’s young protagonist, Judy Shepherd, transported from the 1990s into the jungle and forced to wear her old clothing (hence Gillan’s remarks about “child sized clothes”). And Johnson’s reference to “’90s vintage costumes” would certainly suggest a time travel aspect to the plot; Jack Black’s character looks like he’s from another era entirely (perhaps the 1890s?), so that theory could certainly fit.

All will be revealed when “Jumanji” hits theaters on July 28, 2017.

  • Kevin Hart & The Rock Share a Wild First Look at ‘Jumanji’

You know another “Jumanji” is coming in 2017, right? It’s a “continuation” of the 1995 Robin Williams/Kirsten Dunst movie, and it’s now filming with “Central Intelligence” co-stars Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, plus Jack Black and Karen Gillan.

Kevin Hart shared the first photo on Instagram, then The Rock shared a more official “exclusive” version. They seem to be having a good time making this film, with high hopes that it will be worth the effort. (Although apparently not worth its own unique title?)

Here’s what Hart wrote with his pic of the foursome:

“Day 1 of shooting ‘Jumanji’ is officially in the can. We had a amazing first day. The chemistry & energy of our cast & crew was beyond amazing!!!! This movie is going to be dope as hell….Can’t wait to get back to work tomorrow @therock @karengillanofficial & jack black!!! #Jumanji.”

Here’s the photo The Rock shared, along with text describing the characters:

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: #JUMANJI The journey continues.

    “Moose Finbar” (Kevin Hart).
“Ruby Roundhouse” (Karen Gillan. Her jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot. Trust me;).
    “Professor Shelly Oberon” (Jack Black).
“Dr. Smolder Bravestone” ’cause well.. he smolders.

Hard workin’ and FUN first day of shooting in the jungle with this talented and crazy motley crew. Jack is brilliant, Karen is bad assery, Kevin is sharply hilarious and I smell good.

Extremely hard trying to keep a straight face in these scenes. Too funny. We’re makin’ a good one. More to come.. #JUMANJI #WishFulfillment #TheGameThatPlaysYou

This “Jumanji” is currently scheduled for release on July 28, 2017.

  • ‘Jumanji’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

    %Slideshow-346074%
Has it really been 20 years since “Jumanji” opened in theaters? The movie about a magical board game opened on December 15, 1995 and was the 10th highest-grossing movie that year. Many of us have discovered it on TV and DVD, so it always feels new, even if the special effects are a tad dated. (And which is probably why *grumble* they’re remaking it. The new version will be out in 2016.)

A lot has changed for the cast in 20 years: Some are now bigger names than ever, some really aren’t acting at all anymore and, tragically, star Robin Williams is no longer with us.jumanji cast where are they now
