  • Jude Law to Play Young Dumbledore in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel

2017 Winter TCA Tour - Day 10From “The Young Pope” to The Young Dumbledore, Jude Law is on a hot streak … that’s especially impressive since he’s 44, which you could argue is not that young.

Jude Law has officially been cast as the younger Albus Dumbledore in the second “Fantastic Beasts” movie, Warner Bros. announced today. We’ll see this Dumbledore in the years before he became Hogwarts headmaster, but while he is still the Transfiguration professor.

In this role, Jude Law should be squaring off against Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald, which should make for an interesting match.Director David Yates offered a statement on the casting:

“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”

“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling’s script for this next movie will reportedly “move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt Scamander and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”

Principal photography is scheduled to start this summer, for a planned release date of November 16, 2018. The sequel will star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, and Zoe Kravitz, in addition to Law and Depp. There are five “Fantastic Beasts” movies planned at this point, so this is just No. 2.

Jude Law will be the fourth actor to portray Albus Dumbledore, after the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon played the headmaster in Warner Bros.’s “Harry Potter” film franchise, and Toby Regbo played the very young Dumbledore in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.”

  • Jude Law Reacts to ‘The Young Pope’ Memes in the Best Way

Holy crap, y’all, the Internet is having way too much fun with “The Young Pope.” The HBO series, starring Jude Law, premiered Sunday, Jan. 15 on HBO. No clue if it will be a hit with viewers, but it has already graced Twitter with some hilarious memes. If the show itself is half as creative as the fans already mocking it, we will be truly blessed.

Check out some of the early irreverent tweets:

It’s a bit surprising no one went for an Olivia Pope from “Scandal” angle, but there’s still time.

During Saturday’s TCAs press tour, Jude Law was asked if he had heard about the tweets, and it turns out this is his education on the very concept of a meme:

“Having spent the last week in New York and doing lots of press I’ve become very aware. But until this week I’ve been completely unaware of what a meme was.” He added, “I hope [the memes] will prompt interest and intrigue. I don’t know if meme trends are reflective of young people’s interest but if so I hope [young viewers see the show].”

“The Young Pope” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.

  • Diane Keaton Cast as Nun in HBO’s ‘Young Pope’

L'Oreal Paris' Ninth Annual Women Of Worth CelebrationDiane Keaton has found Jesus — in HBO’s upcoming “The Young Pope.”

The cable network announced that the Oscar-winning actress is joining the cast of the drama as Sister Mary, an American nun living in the Vatican City. She’ll star opposite Jude Law, who plays Pius XIII, born Lenny Belardo, who is the first American to be elected pope and who becomes the most conservative leader the Catholic Church has ever seen.

Sister Mary raised Lenny, helped him get elected, and continues to have power over him. Pius XIII is also described as “a man of great power who’s stubbornly resistant to the Vatican courtiers, unconcerned with the implications for his authority.”

This marks Keaton’s first-ever series regular television role. Creator and Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino (“Great Beauty”) will direct all eight episodes of “The Young Pope,” which begins filming soon.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Eric Stonestreet, Stephen Amell Play ‘Name That Thing’; Keri Russell’s ‘Inflatable Flip Cup’ (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet and “Arrow” star Stephen Amell were on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night, and they competed in a fun game called “Name That Thing.” Spoiler alert! Eric won, but he admitted in one of his individual videos that Stephen probably should’ve won because the final round was to name a bunch of U.S. Presidents and Stephen is Canadian. Eric said Stephen knows more about the U.S. than Eric does about Canada, so it wasn’t quite fair. Eric also talked about pranking his “Modern Family” co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and shared his latest torture, sending him a sex toy in the mail. He’s a big football fan, too, and he and Jimmy discussed the Super Bowl. He won’t go to a Super Bowl unless the Kansas City Chiefs are competing. Stephen told Jimmy Kimmel he walked to the studio since he lives closeby. He walked over with a friend, which was a plan he made a long time ago in case he ever got to “do Kimmel.” “The Americans” star Keri Russell had to disguise her beauty in a giant inflatable fat suit to play “Inflatable Flip Cup” with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show.” Before playing the game they did an awesome little dance. Love her little “Mother!” shout during the game — and when she thew her empty cup at Jimmy. Jude Law – dressed interestingly, but always cool – was on “The Tonight Show” talking about his submarine movie “Black Sea.” He talked about jumping onto a speeding submarine in real life. Not a good conversation for anyone with claustrophobia. And apparently it smells “unique” on submarines; when you come out, you stink like a badger! Rainn Wilson was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and he’s a major “Star Wars” fan. He turned into a 12-year-old girl when he met Mark Hamill. He also shared his unique Chewbacca impression. Lauren Graham – love her – was also on “Late Night” and she discussed the final season of “Parenthood” and how she found out that “Gilmore Girls” was canceled. At least this time she knew that the show was ending. Brian Michael Bendis was also on “Late Night” and talked about “Marvel’s Secret Wars.” The whole Marvel universe is going to become different. Dean Norris was on “Conan” and talked about having a dance-off with “Dancing With the Stars” pro Derek Hough. Dean said he held his own, even if he couldn’t walk for a week afterward. Dean has a black belt from martial arts training, and he still does his own fight stunts. Olivia Munn was also on “Conan” and she talked about her racy dance scene with Johnny Depp in “Mortdecai.” He kept grabbing her boob for the scene – it was scripted, although Conan questioned who put that in the script.
