  • Harley Quinn and Joker Star in ‘Suicide Squad’ Extended Cut Trailer

suicide squad, extended cut, harley quinn, jokerThe trailer for the upcoming expanded edition of “Suicide Squad” is here, promising to offer fans even more action, and perhaps most importantly, some more interactions between the film’s two biggest stars, Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

There will only be 13 minutes of extra footage in the extended cut, but the trailer indicates that those few extra scenes will be worth the wait (and worth shelling out for). The trailer brings back the successful soundtrack of Queen classic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and offers some glimpses of previously unseen Joker and Harley interactions, including one moment when the pre-transformation psychiatrist holds up her former patient at gunpoint. (The psychotic villain, naturally, dares her to shoot, before wrestling the weapon away.)

It’s unclear if this extended edition will make Leto entirely happy, since he’s previously publicly lamented that almost all of his scenes were cut from the finished film, and 13 minutes isn’t exactly a ton of extra time. But it should shine an additional spotlight on Robbie’s breakout character Harley, who’s soon due to get her own spinoff flick.

The “Suicide Squad” extended cut will be available in digital HD format on November 15, and on DVD and Bluray on December 13.

  • Negan From ‘The Walking Dead’ Is Like the Joker, Norman Reedus Says

Negan, the new villain introduced at the end of season six of “The Walking Dead,” is preparing for a long stay on the show, set to dominate season seven and remain a threat for the foreseeable future. It takes a special character to make such a huge impression so late in the show’s run, but Negan seems up to the task, and according to one original “TWD” star, he’s very similar to another iconic villain who also hails from the comic world.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Norman Reedus discussed what it was like to add Negan to the mix, and how the cast has acclimated to working with the actor behind him, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Reedus had nothing but praise for his new costar, noting that Morgan was able to elicit some pretty devastating reactions from the rest of the cast while filming that now-infamous season six finale cliffhanger, in which Negan beats one of the Alexandria crew to death with his baseball bat, Lucille.

Speaking to both the character’s comic inspiration as well as the huge expectations that come with introducing someone already well known to “Walking Dead” graphic novel readers, Reedus likened Negan to another familiar, charismatic villain. Here’s how he explained it to EW:

He’s a prick [laughs] but you know, I have to say, Jeffrey’s killing it — no pun intended. He’s great. He’s super charismatic, and he’s enjoying being this jerk way too much, as a matter of fact. You know, it’s a real blessing we have him on the show. He’s brought so much new energy to this show, and that character is like the Joker. It has to be great, and he’s delivering, and everyone likes him, and he’s fun. He’s a cool guy and everything, but in the moment, everyone wants to f—ing kill him, and then we wrap, and we’re all having fun again. So he’s a great addition to the show.

It sounds like Morgan’s costars have gotten along with him much better than Jared Leto’s “Suicide Squad” castmates, who were terrorized by Leto’s creepy gifts and odd behavior during production. And what we’ve seen from him so far indicates that everything Reedus said is true.

Look for even more Negan when “The Walking Dead” returns for season seven on October 23.

  • Jared Leto Wants a Joker Standalone Movie

Suicide Squad The lack of screentime for the Joker in “Suicide Squad” has become A Thing over the last few days, with actor Jared Leto complaining about his numerous cut scenes and co-star Margot Robbie weighing in on the matter. Leto even alluded to those scenes only being released upon his death, but now, he’s hoping that the Joker gets his own standalone movie.

“I think that would be great, to dive in deeper to the Joker and expand the story and to learn a bit more about this sick and twisted — but lovely — strange man,” he told NME.

Leto also revealed that he got some of the inspiration for his Joker from the late Davie Bowie. “We discussed David Bowie a bit — not necessarily the music of David, but his class, his elegance, his timelessness.”

He added, “I think David Bowie’s probably an inspiration for, like, almost anything you could do creatively.”

  • Get to Know The Joker in New ‘Suicide Squad’ Teaser

the joker, joker, jared leto, suicide squad, teaser, trailerJared Leto’s take on legendary “Batman” villain The Joker in “Suicide Squad” will be the third time the character has hit the big screen, and while the actor has some big shoes to fill following Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s iconic performances, based on everything we’ve seen so far, Leto looks more than up to the challenge. Now, a new teaser for the villain team-up flick is giving fans a closer peek at the character ahead of the film’s release next month.

The clip features the familiar soundtrack of “Bohemian Rhapsody” — used to great effect in one of the first trailers for the flick — and lots and lots of shots of The Joker being as creepy and enigmatic as possible. He cackles that signature Joker maniacal laugh, gives Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) a passionate kiss, and messes with one of his handlers (Ike Barinholtz) in a way only an evil, deranged man can.

A titlecard declares that his favorite joke is “Batman” (get it?), and calls him a megalomaniac. “He’s a psychotic, antisocial freak,” another character declares, and it’s hard to disagree with that sentiment, especially when The Joker is lying on the floor, laughing to himself while surrounded by hundreds of carefully-arranged guns and knives. As you do.

More madness will surely be in store for moviegoers when “Suicide Squad” invades theaters on August 5.

  • The Joker’s Tattoos Are ‘Suicide Squad’ Easter Eggs

When the “Suicide Squad” characters were first introduced, there was some controversy over Jared Leto’s heavily-tattooed version of The Joker. But according to director David Ayer, there’s a very specific inspiration behind Leto’s Joker look — and those tattoos actually reveal a lot about the character and film.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK, Ayer explained how he decided upon Leto’s look for the flick, telling the site, “I took a lot of inspiration from drug lords on Instagram.” From their flashy cars to customized guns to, yes, their copious gang tattoos, there’s a little bit of those real-life nefarious characters in The Joker as well. And as for just what the ink depicts, there’s a reason behind each bit of imagery, according to Ayer.

“The tattoos tell a very specific story,” the director explained to Yahoo!. “And eventually people will decipher them and understand what’s going on, but obviously they’re contentious, any time you do something new it’s contentious. There’s very specific stories and easter eggs in those tattoos. And even his teeth, there’s an entire story behind that which is absolutely canon. It’s putting his history on his body. This Joker is a little more working class, who I believe could live in our world.”

The significance of tattoos doesn’t stop with The Joker, since Harley Quinn sports as few of her own, too. As actress Margot Robbie told Yahoo!, there’s a character-driven reason behind the crudely-drawn ink.

“She did these herself in prison,” Robbie explained to the site while showing off the tattoos. “They’re stick and poke tattoos, prison-style tattoos, that you do when you don’t have a tattoo gun. She did them herself out of boredom and desperation… There’s I Heart Puddin’, a Joker face, a love heart… that’s obviously reflective of her time in prison.”

Fans will get to see for themselves whether or not the ink adds to (or detracts from) the characters when “Suicide Squad” hits theaters on August 5.

  • Jared Leto’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Gifts ‘Terrified’ Viola Davis

joker, jared leto, suicide squadJared Leto’s method approach to his role as the Joker in “Suicide Squad” is already the stuff of legend, and his costar Viola Davis has admitted that the creepy gifts he offered the cast initially “terrified” her — and then motivated her to put her all into her role.

Davis, who plays government official Amanda Waller (a.k.a. the assembler of the titular band of villains) in the flick, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she was pretty intimidated by Leto’s bizarre behavior when rehearsals first began.

“The Joker — he did some bad things, Jared Leto did,” Davis recalled of early days on the “Suicide” set. “He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who came into the rehearsal room … with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction to Jared Leto.”

Naturally, Davis said, this made her a little uneasy.

“Now, I’m terrified, just as a person, thinking, ‘Is he crazy?’” the actress recalled. “But the second part was, ‘Oh, s–t, I’ve gotta have my stuff together.’ You talk about commitment, and then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive, in a box. She screamed. And then she kept it.”

Sounds like Leto definitely has the whole twisted thing down. We can’t wait to see him, Davis, and the rest of the skwad in action.

  • New ‘Suicide Squad’ Poster Features the Whole Skwad

The entire skwad has assembled in a new poster for “Suicide Squad,” which features the gang getting ready for its closeup — and by the looks of those tense expressions and brandished weapons, ready to leap into action.

The image, which debuted on Yahoo! Movies, at first glance seems to be your standard promotional poster, with a group shot of our titular antiheroes. But when you zoom out from the image, it becomes something both whimsical and sinister, as you can see two large X’s forming eyes (Jared Leto’s Joker is standing over one of them) and the rest of the crew lined up into the shape of a garish smile.

That gang includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and government leader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Waller is mixed in with the rest of the squad, a nod perhaps to her murky motivations in sending out these villains to commit crimes on behalf of the U.S. — and die for the country’s secret sins, if necessary.

Check out the full poster, including close-ups of the Joker and Harley Quinn, below. “Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5.

  • Jared Leto’s Green Joker Hair From ‘Suicide Squad’ Is Gone

It’s not easy being green. “Suicide Squad” has wrapped filming, and actor Jared Leto is done with the Joker, or at least his hair. Jared shared a chopped hair photo on Instagram — and if we didn’t already know the context, it could pass as a foodie’s artistic use of shredded celery stalks.

    Anyway, here’s his “Goodbye”:

    Goodbye…????????????????????????????????

A photo posted by JARED LETO (@jaredleto) on

He should keep that hair in a plastic bag somewhere, as a keepsake. Or he could sell it on eBay someday, if he needs some quick cash. Back on August 12, Jared shared a cute little video on Twitter, covering up his hair:

Was his green hair already gone at that point, or was he just hiding it?

You probably already saw the “Suicide Squad” cast’s tattoos for each other, to celebrate the end of filming, and Cara Delevingne showed off her rather unusual wrap gift:

  • Jared Leto’s Joker Looks Demonic in New ‘Suicide Squad’ Set Photos

Maybe the Joker is going Sith on us?

Fans will have to wait more than a year to see Jared Leto‘s Joker in action when “Suicide Squad” premieres, but he’s already earning *quite* a lot of commentary online. When director David Ayer shared the first photo of Joker — the one shown, in part, above — fans were quick to attack. When the movie shot on the streets of Toronto, more images were leaked showing Joker, Harley Quinn, and the Batmobile. Now photos ares making the rounds of Leto on set, trying to conceal his character — or at least hide his pale skin from the sun:

His death stare may be from cameras (paparazzi?) taking his photo without permission. But that shot gives us another look at the Joker’s makeup (including hand tattoo) and unfortunate-looking teeth. JustJared has a few more photos, but what do you think of this Joker so far? Will you withhold judgment until the movie comes out on August 5, 2016?
