Writer and director Kevin Smith is one of the most popular and prolific filmmakers to come out of the independent film movement of the 1990’s.

Smith first gained attention for his groundbreaking movie ‘Clerks‘, which has spawned two sequels, the spinoffs ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back‘ and ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot‘, and ‘Mallrats‘, ‘Chasing Amy‘ and ‘Dogma‘, which are all set in the same cinematic universe (Entitled the ‘View Askewniverse’).

But Smith has gone on to direct a wide range of movies including ‘Red State’, ‘Cop Out‘, ‘Tusk‘, ‘Yoga Hosers‘ and ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno‘. His latest, the coming of age film ‘The 4:30 Movie‘, opens in theaters on September 13th and will be available on digital October 1st,

Unfortunately, when the collector’s shop is robbed and the card vanishes with the crook, Paul and Jimmy end up going rogue, tracking down the card and the drug ring behind its theft, all on their own time and without any backup—except for each other.

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Red Band Trailer Is Packed With Familiar Faces

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot trailer still

It’s finally here — the trailer for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.”

Kevin Smith‘s much-anticipated followup to 2001’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back” opens in theaters this fall, so the actor-director unveiled the movie’s official red band preview on Thursday. Not only does it show the latest adventures of Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith), it’s jam-packed with other well-known actors.

The reboot mocks reboots by having the stoner duo once against try to prevent a movie from being made. This time, its a reboot of the “Bluntman and Chronic” movie from the original.

“We’ve got three days to get to Hollywood and stop this movie from ever happening,” Jay says.

Of course, hijinks ensue, and along the way, we see actors who have previously appeared in the View Askewniverse return. The list includes Ben Affleck, Matt DamonJoey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee, Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, and more. Plus, there are new cameos. Watch below — and know that it’s very, very NSFW.

“Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” opens Oct. 15.

Another familiar face and character is part of “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.”

Joey Lauren Adams is once again reprising the role of Alyssa Jones, the character she originated in 1997’s “Chasing Amy.” Writer-director Kevin Smith made the announcement via Instagram Thursday and shared what an important role she played in the “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” origin story. He said that neither the 2001 original nor the upcoming reboot could have happened without her.

“Because we met, I made #chasingamy in the first place,” he wrote in part, “and Amy is where the idea of #jayandsilentbob as the basis for #bluntmanandchronic originated.”

Chasing Joey! @joeylaurenadams is back as indie comic icon Alyssa Jones, when @jayandsilentbob Reboot! Neither #jayandsilentbobstrikeback nor #jayandsilentbobreboot could have happened without me knowing Joey. Because we met, I made #chasingamy in the first place – and Amy is where the idea of #jayandsilentbob as the basis for #bluntmanandchronic originated (as a commentary about the differences between the slapsticky Jay and Bob in #mallrats versus the slacker Jay and Bob in #clerks). And both Strike Back and Reboot hinge on their comic book alter egos somehow fucking with our heroes’ real lives. So of course Joey had to be there when we returned to the #viewaskewniverse. This woman not only made me a better artist, Joey also made me a better person. When I saw her on shoot day, I said “See all these trucks? All this equipment and all these people came all the way to #neworleans today – all because you and I met 24 years ago.” I’ve done some of my best work with #joeylaurenadams – and I’m hoping Reboot ranks right up there with Amy and Rats. With Joey on board as Alyssa Jones – one of my favorite characters in any of my #viewaskew movies – we’re that much closer to the goal! #KevinSmith #sabanfilms #alyssajones #reunion #jayandsilentbob

“Chasing Amy” centered on comic artist Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) falling in love with Alyssa and dealing with the fact that she identified as a lesbian. Holden happened to be one of the creators of the fictional “Bluntman and Chronic” comic books, which were inspired by his friends Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Both Affleck and Adams appeared in the spinoff film, with Adams making a cameo.

Smith has described the upcoming reboot as “literally the same f–king movie all over again,” per Comicbook.com, so it makes sense that Adams would return. Production started in February, and Adams tweeted a photo Thursday showing that she’d been on set.

  • Kevin Smith Begins ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Filming on Heart Attack Anniversary

Kevin Smith Begins ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ Filming on Heart Attack Anniversary

    Saban Films

Exactly one year ago, writer-director Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack that nearly claimed his life. The significance of that event continues to weigh heavily on the star, and on the first anniversary of his brush with death, Smith is celebrating his second shot at life — and the beginning of a new project.

In a post on Instagram, the filmmaker revealed that February 25 marked one year since his heart attack, and he specifically chose that date as the first day of filming on “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” the sequel/reboot/remake hybrid to 2001’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” that pokes fun at all three of those categories. Smith shared a selfie of himself in character as Silent Bob, along with costars Jason Mewes (Jay) and Jason Lee (Brodie), as well as some words of gratitude for both the chance to reprise his role, and continue living his life.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BuUUN_fAif4/

According to Smith, the trio easily slipped back into their onscreen alter egos, and “partied like it was 1995,” the year they collaborated on “Mallrats.” The director continued:

‘The Oscars were on in the background during our practice and I couldn’t help but feel relief when the “In Memoriam” montage ended and I wasn’t in it. We picked 2/25 as the Reboot start date *intentionally*, to celebrate the fact that I did not become Silent Bob forever 365 days ago. But after a blissful couple hours of making pretend with my friends on the set of my 14th film, I’m starting to think I *did* die in that operating room after all. Because what could be more Heavenly than this?’

    Amen, Kev.

    Here’s the film’s official logline:

“In ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot,’ our herbal heroes find out Hollywood is making a reboot of the old movie that was based on them, so they journey out to Hollywood to stop it again.”

We can’t wait to hear more from Smith as production continues. Stay tuned.

Slacker duo Jay and Silent Bob are back.

Or, will be shortly.  Saban Films just picked up the North American rights to Kevin Smith’s “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” the sequel to the 2001 comedy
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”

Smith will be back as Silent Bob with BFF Jason Mewes as Jay in the sequel, which is just starting production.

It’s expected to take meta-jabs at reboots, remakes, and sequels and to feature cameos from past friends and costars. Including, we’re guessing, pals Matt Damon (who’s never turned down a cameo as far as we know) and Ben Affleck. And plenty of herbal humor.

Referring to his life-changing heart attack last year, Smith said:

Last February, I almost died. So on the one year anniversary of my widow maker heart attack, as a celebration of life and a big ol’ F you to Death, my best friend and I will be rolling cameras on a sequel/remake/reboot of a movie we first made nearly twenty years ago! In ‘Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back,’ our herbal heroes found out Hollywood was making a movie based on them, so they journeyed out to Hollywood to stop it. But I’ve learned so much as a storyteller and have grown immensely as a filmmaker since then, so audiences can expect something completely different: In ‘Jay & Silent Bob Reboot,’ our herbal heroes find out Hollywood is making a reboot of the old movie that was based on them, so they journey out to Hollywood to stop it again. I offer my (literal) undying thanks to our amazing partners at Saban and Universal for making this dream come true and backing this cinematic silliness!”

As for costar Mewes, he joked, “I’m tired of doing Shakespeare all the time so it’ll be nice to get back to playing Jay again. It may be 25 years since I first played the idiot man-child from Jersey but this time’s going to be the best because I’ve really grown into the role of idiot man-child in my old age.”

2019 is off to a good start for “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” fans.

The 2001 comedy’s star, director, and screenwriter, Kevin Smith, kicked off the new year by announcing that his much-anticipated “Jay and Silent Bob” reboot is finally in “pre-pre-production.” He tweeted a photo of himself with producer Jordan Monsanto, taken by his co-star Jason Mewes, and wrote that the three were “the only dopes in Hollywood working on the holiday.”

Ah, how times have changed. Once they were asking, “What the f–k is the internet?,” and now they’re using it keep fans updated on the reboot’s status.

Pre-pre-production is still very early in the game, but it’s clear they’re eager to make the film. Smith has been talking about a reboot since 2017, as People pointed out. In August of that year, he shared that he had written a script in which Jay (Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) had to return to Hollywood “to stop a brand new reboot of the old ‘Bluntman & Chronic’ movie they hated so much.”

Smith has coined 2019 the “year of the reboot,” so we expect more updates about the project in the coming months.
