  • Idris Elba Met Daniel Craig at the Golden Globes, and James Bond Fans Can’t Deal

Idris Elba Met Daniel Craig at the Golden Globes, and James Bond Fans Can’t Deal

    BBC

While Idris Elba has long been eyed as the heir apparent to the James Bond franchise, the actor has repeatedly quashed those rumors. But Elba couldn’t help but give those old reports a shake and a stir on Sunday night, after posting a photo of himself running into the man who currently owns the keys to the Aston Martin.

At this weekend’s Golden Globes ceremony, Elba bumped into none other than Daniel Craig, who’s played 007 since 2006’s “Casino Royale,” and is set to depart the franchise after the release of the upcoming “Bond 25.” Craig has been the source of his own fair share of Bond speculation in recent years, thanks to his open ambivalence about the role and his much-delayed decision to return for one last go-round.

All of this drama set the scene for Elba’s hilarious photo, which he shared on social media on Sunday night.

In the snap, Craig is giving Elba an intense, almost cartoonish staredown, and Elba is serving some major side-eye. The latter star summed up the interaction with the succinct-yet-sufficient commentary, “Awks…”

Naturally, fans were ready with their own witty reactions to the moment.

While we can only assume Elba and Craig were hamming it up for the camera, it’s kind of fun to imagine that the “Who will play James Bond?” debate would be settled by some sort of hot actor wrestling match. Sign us up for a front row seat.

  • Daniel Craig Says There’s ‘No Decision Yet’ on James Bond Return

Rumors have been swirling for years now over whether or not Daniel Craig will suit up again as James Bond, with the answer varying wildly depending on the day of the week (or who’s the hot new candidate to take over the role). Today, there still isn’t any concrete news on that front, though the actor himself has finally commented on the issue, insisting that he hasn’t made up his mind yet whether to reprise the role — and that money is not a factor in his decision-making process.

That was the word from Craig when he spoke to Boston radio show Morning Magic on Tuesday, while promoting his new flick “Logan Lucky.” The actor also touched upon the Bond issue, noting, “No decision has been made at the moment” about a potential return as 007.

“There’s a lot of noise out there and nothing official has been confirmed and I’m not, like, holding out for more money or doing anything like that,” Craig told the hosts. “It’s just all very personal decisions to be made at the moment. … I know they’re desperate to get going and I would in theory love to do it, but there is no decision, uh, just yet.”

Those comments echo the last time the actor talked about Bond, when he said back in October of 2016 that he would “miss it terribly” if he abandoned the character. It’s unclear what’s been holding up Craig’s decision for so long, but his steadfast insistence that he’s still not sure should at least clear up the latest batch of rumors that he’s definitely on board for another flick.

Regardless of who is sitting behind the wheel of the Aston Martin, the 25th Bond flick is due in theaters on November 8, 2019.

  • Daniel Craig Breaks James Bond Silence, Hints at Potential Return: ‘I’d Miss It Terribly’

The New Yorker Festival 2016 - Daniel Craig Talks With Nicholas SchmidleDaniel Craig has been noticeably silent as rumors have swirled about his role in the James Bond franchise, and whether or not he’s truly ready to walk away from 007. For months, there’s been talk that he’s been offered a boatload of money to return, that he’s still the top pick for the gig, and that producers have already moved on to any one of an increasingly large number of replacement candidates. So what’s the truth?

It’s still a little murky, but Craig has finally broken his silence on the subject. Birth.Movies.Death. reports that during an appearance at The New Yorker Festival this past weekend, the actor said there haven’t been any official talks yet about Bond 25, “because everybody’s just a bit tired” from making the last flick in the franchise. And while he didn’t give any definitive answers about whether or not he’d be suiting up again for the franchise, Craig certainly left the door open, and also clarified his infamous “slash my wrists” remarks from the “Spectre” press tour.

The actor admitted that when he made that statement, he was simply exhausted from the stress of shooting “Spectre,” comparing the process to completing a marathon. You wouldn’t ask a runner crossing the finish line when their next race will be, Craig reasoned, and an actor wrapping a massive action flick isn’t ready to commit to another one at that point, either.

Still, making the Bond movies has been an overall positive experience, he said, calling the frenetic six-month turnaround from production to release “one of the most thrilling things as an actor you can do.”

“I love this job, I get a massive kick out of it. And if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will,” Craig told the crowd. ” … The things I get to do on a Bond movie, and the type of work it is — there is no other job like it. And were I to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly.”

While those words are by no means any sort of guarantee that Craig will be back as Bond, they do leave the actor some wiggle room (and perhaps serve as a mea culpa to the 007 producers for his harsh “Spectre” comments). But the actor’s remarks also make it clear that it will still be a while before there’s any definitive news about Bond 25, so we’ll have to wait for his decision. Stay tuned.

  • Tom Hiddleston Probably Won’t Be James Bond

House Of Fraser British Academy Television Awards 2016 - Red Carpet ArrivalsThere’s been lots of press lately about potential replacements for Daniel Craig in the James Bond series, with Tom Hiddleston’s name at the top of many lists of potential heirs to the 007 throne. But according to Hiddleston himself, the likelihood of him assuming the Bond mantle is apparently pretty low.

Hiddleston dropped the disappointing news during a panel discussion at Wizard World Philadelphia last weekend, where he appeared alongside Chris Hemsworth to discuss “Thor: Ragnarok.” But when the moderator asked Hiddleston if he wanted to talk about anything else — say, announce a certain casting in a certain spy franchise — the actor had to admit that the possibility didn’t look so certain after all.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, everybody,” Hiddleston told the excited crowd, whose passionate screams quickly devolved into cries of disbelief. “I don’t think that announcement is coming. But I’m very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. There’s not much I can say that I haven’t already said, but … your guess is as good as mine, to be honest.”

While Hiddleston’s remarks don’t definitively take him out of the running for the role, they do sort of put a damper on the excitement surrounding his potential casting. And they pretty much make clear that Hiddleston is nowhere near as far along in the casting process — or even the just-having-preliminary-meetings process — as fellow actors like Jamie Bell, who had reportedly been speaking with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently about taking over the part.

Despite the low odds, we’ll continue to keep our fingers crossed for a Hiddleston-007 miracle. Maybe, at the very least, once the actor hangs up his Loki costume, he can pop over to the Bondverse to play a villain there, too.

  • Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan Did Not Like ‘Spectre’

Special Screening Of NO ESCAPE In New YorkThe latest James Bond outing, “Spectre,” is a hit with crowds, but not so much with critics. Joining the latter camp is former 007 Pierce Brosnan, who revealed in a recent interview that he didn’t really care for the newest Bond flick.

Brosnan, who played the spy in four films between 1995 and 2000, told HitFix that he was initially excited to see “Spectre” — but that excitement faded once he watched the film.

“I was looking forward to it enormously,” Brosnan told the site. “I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak — it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did.”

Despite his dislike for the film itself, Brosnan had nothing but praise for current franchise star Daniel Craig. The actor noted that Craig clearly has “ownership” of the iconic role in his fourth outing — he just needs a better movie around him to really showcase his skills.

“He’s a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there,” Brosnan said of Craig. “Just get a tighter story, and he’ll have another classic.”

That’s if Craig sticks around for another film. The jury’s still out on that one — and on who’ll replace him if he does leave — but it’s good to know that the actor has the support of one of his forebears.

  • Tom Hardy Would Consider Playing James Bond, Too

"Legend" - UK Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsHugh Jackman has already thrown his hat into the ring of candidates who’d consider joining the James Bond film franchise when current star Daniel Craig finishes his contract. And now, another actor — and increasingly popular contender — has also announced he’d be interested.

In an interview with Sky News, Tom Hardy was asked about starring in the venerable spy series, and his response should make his fans happy.

“I think anybody would consider doing Bond, wouldn’t they?” Hardy told the TV channel.

Sky News’s report also noted that Hardy didn’t answer a query about whether or not he’s already been approached about the role; could that mean that the actor has indeed had discussions with Sony about the possibility?

As we reported last week, Hardy is a rising star when it comes to Bond speculation, surpassing other favorites like Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender in the betting odds rankings. Could he use that newfound momentum — and this carefully-placed comment in the press — to help him land the part? What about Jackman’s chances? And furthermore, what about the man who got this recent conversation started in the first place, the definitely not “too street” Idris Elba?

With the way this story has dominated headlines, it looks like there will be plenty of speculation to keep us busy before Sony makes any announcements. Stay tuned.
