‘IT: Chapter Two’ Director Confirms Extra Long Runtime

    Warner Bros.

Get ready for some extra-long nightmares this fall.

“It: Chapter Two” director Andy Muschietti has confirmed the film will run two hours and 45 minutes, half an hour longer than the 2017 horror hit.

“Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint,” Muschietti told Digital Spy of the film’s length.

The sequel is set 27 years after the first film, with the Losers Club all grown up. Jessica Chastain stars as Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy is Bill Denbrough,  Bill Hader plays Richie Tozer, James Ransone is Eddie Kaspbrak, Jay Ryan plays Ben Hanscom, and Isaiah Mustafa is  Mike Hanlon.

And of course, Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise, the sinister clown who terrorizes the town of Derry.

And with the younger versions also returning, it seems the movie needs all the time it can get to tell its story.

“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s four hours long, you realize that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact,” Muschietti explained.

“You cannot deliver a four-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good.”

The long runtime isn’t likely to deter moviegoers. “Avengers: Endgame” ran for three hours and became the No. 1 grossing movie in history. And “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which clocks in at two hours and 45 minutes, just became Quentin Tarantino’s best-opening film.

  • The Adult Losers Club Assembles in New ‘It 2’ Cast Photo

    Warner Bros.

The Losers Club is now officially back in session, in a new photo featuring the main adult cast of “It: Chapter 2.”

The official “It” Twitter account debuted the behind the scenes snap on Monday, featuring the ensemble sitting around a table, Last Supper-style, reading through the sequel’s script.

Pictured in the photo are Jessica Chastain (playing Beverly Marsh), James McAvoy (Bill Denbrough), Isaiah Mustafa (Mike Hanlon), Jay Ryan (Ben Hanscom), James Ransone (Eddie Kaspbrak), Bill Hader (Richie Tozier), and Andy Bean (Stanley Uris). Aside from those Losers, other recent additions to the cast include Teach Grant (playing Henry Bowers), Xavier Dolan (Adrian Mellon), Will Beinbrink (Tom Rogan), and Jess Weixler (Bill’s wife, Audra).

Set 30 years after the first film, “Chapter 2” brings our heroes back to Derry, Maine to once again fight off the evil Pennywise (Bill Skarsgaard), who’s resurfaced after a long absence. “It” director (and new Academy member) Andres Muschietti is returning, as are the original kid cast in flashbacks.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, it seems safe to say that we’ll be getting plenty of updates from the cast and crew throughout the film’s production. Stay tuned for more behind the scenes scoop as it becomes available.

“It: Chapter 2” is due in theaters on September 6, 2019.

  • ‘It’ Director Prepares Cast for Sequel Filming: ‘Wake Up, Losers’

“It: Chapter 2” is almost ready to head down the drain!

“It” director Andres “Andy” Muschietti has assembled his own team of Avengers, and they’ll be returning for the horror sequel. “Chapter 2” is meant to pick up the story 27 years later, with new adult actors playing the older Losers Club. However, Muschietti already said the sequel would include flashbacks to the past, and that means the original stars are coming back.

On that note, Muschietti recently posted a photo with some original cast members — Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Jackson Robert Scott. Sequel filming hasn’t started yet, but it’s almost time to rise-and-shine for more blood and dirt:

A post shared by Andy Muschietti (@andy_muschietti) on

Last year, Muschietti said they were aiming to start prep in March 2018. It sounds like filming will actually start over the summer, so they haven’t quite gotten things together yet. (“Stranger Things” Season 3 is meant to start filming right around now, so Finn Wolfhard may be going straight from the Netflix show to the movie. Or will he balance both at the same time?)

What adults will be joining the cast in “Chapter 2”?

Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the adult Beverly Marsh, but the other roles seem to be up for grabs. The young cast named their choices for older roles — including Chris Pratt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chadwick Boseman, Bill Hader, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Christian Bale.

“It: Chapter 2” is scheduled to open in theaters on September 6th, 2019.

  • The ‘It’ Kids Want Jessica Chastain and Chris Pratt For Sequel

It castJessica Chastain has already thrown her hat in the ring to play grown-up Bev in the “It” sequel, but who else should be cast as the adult versions of the Pennywise-haunted kids?

The young cast of the hit horror film talked to ET Online before the movie’s DVD release and chose who they’d like to see play them as adults.

Jeremy Ray Taylor, who plays bullied bibliophile Ben, opted for Chris Pratt. “He becomes a big, hunky boy, so I think that’d fit perfectly,” costar Wyatt Oleff said.

Oleff played young Peter Quill in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but he opted for a certain former child star as the adult Stanley instead. “I would say Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I think we have some similar facial features and … if they kind of tighten up the curls, I think [it could work].”

Sophia Lillis, who plays Bev, enthusiastically chose fellow redhead Chastain. The “Molly’s Game” star previously worked with “It” director Andy Muschietti on the horror film “Mama.”

And Jaeden Lieberher (Bill), said he’d love to see Christian Bale as the adult Pennywise hunter. “That would be cool.”

Finn Wolfhard (who plays foul-mouthed Richie), Chosen Jacobs (Mike) and Jack Dylan Grazer (asthmatic Eddie) weren’t part of the interview. When previously asked about it, Jacobs opted for “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, while Wolfhard chose Bill Hader and Grazer named Jake Gyllenhaal.

The “It” sequel won’t be out until September 2019, but you can buy “It” on DVD or Blu-ray on January 9, 2018. The digital version will be available December 19.

  • Exclusive: ‘It’ Director Confirms Sequel Will Bring Back the Losers’ Club

The filmmakers behind Stephen King’s “It” wisely chose to focus on the kids/”Losers’ Club” for the first half of their highly-anticipated adaptation, with the sequel centering on the adults.

So how does director Andy Muschietti plan on bringing the kids back for “Chapter Two”?

“Flashbacks,” said the director in an exclusive interview with Moviefone. While some fans, trades, and sites have posited rumors about this being the plan, we can confirm that — if Muschietti’s vision for the sequel comes to pass — Bill, Bev, and the rest of the Losers’ Club will appear in more than a cameo capacity. In fact, that’s the only way Muschietti would want to do it.

“I obviously related to the kids. [Their] story obviously means a lot to me… and it wouldn’t feel right to continue or complete this story without involving them or going back and, you know, revisiting them somehow.”

Muscheitti stressed, at the time of our interview, that the studio and filmmakers are just in the early “talking” stages of sequel plans. And should those plans move forward as expected, it is safe to assume that fans can expect new scenes filmed with the kids — hopefully ones that bride the gap between their last encounter with Pennywise when they were kids with their newest one as adults.

The “It” sequel has no release date yet, but look for the film to hit theaters (at the earliest) in 2019.

  • ‘It’ Sequel, ‘Chapter Two,’ Is Officially Moving Forward

Prepare yourself, ’cause “IT” is officially coming back. The plan for two movies — one focused on the young Losers Club, and a sequel as they’re older — is moving forward.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line is firming up plans for “Chapter Two,” as “It” readies to open this Friday. The positive reviews are hoped to be a sign of a big box office opening.

One of the “It” screenwriters, Gary Dauberman, closed a deal to write the sequel, also adapted from Stephen King’s expansive novel. Director Andy Muschietti seems ready to return, but he reportedly has no deal in place. (Maybe they are all waiting to see how “It” does in its opening weekend.)

THR’s sources added that what’s currently being called “Chapter Two” will take place 27 years later, but flashbacks will figure into the story, meaning the first movie’s young cast may return. When the sequel script is finished, the studio will head out to cast the older stars.

Andres Muschietti previously told Variety the plan was to start filming this coming spring 2018.

“We’ll probably have a script for the second part in January. Ideally, we would start prep in March. Part one is only about the kids. Part two is about these characters 30 years later as adults, with flashbacks to 1989 when they were kids.”

The first “IT” movie opens this Friday, September 8. A release date of sometime in 2019 is being eyed.
