  • These Characters Have the Most Screen Time in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

WARNING: This post contains some possible minor SPOILERS for “Avengers: Infinity War.” If you don’t want to know anything about the film — including which characters have the most screen time — stop reading now.

It’s not easy taking dozens of characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and inserting them all into the same feature film — and according to “Avengers: Infinity War” co-director Joe Russo, that challenge means that some heroes are represented more than others in the flick. But fans should be pleasantly surprised by who is featured the most, Russo said, as well as how they drive the story moving forward.

In an interview with Fandango, the director acknowledged that it was difficult to cram every single hero into the flick, noting that many of them would not receive equal screen time simply because it was not possible to do so in one movie. Russo did say, however, that those who were seemingly left out of “Avengers 3” will definitely play a bigger role in “Avengers 4.”

As for who’s running the show in “Infinity War,” though, it should come as no surprise to fans that Russo said Thanos (Josh Brolin) was far and away the central character of the film, since the villain’s presence is what brings together all of the MCU’s various scattered heroes in the first place. Thanos is “at turns horrifying and at turns empathetic,” Russo said, with Fandango likening him to Michael B. Jordan’s sympathetic “Black Panther” baddie, Killmonger.

The director also hinted that a certain God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) makes a big splash in “Infinity War.” Here’s what he said when asked about who has the most screen time:

Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time in this film, in a lot of ways I would say it’s his movie. … We wanted to tell a story that [audiences] weren’t expecting, and the story is told from the point of view of a villain, which I think is also really unique and risky for a commercial film that will surprise the audience. … [A]nd I think you’ll find that Thor has a really interesting arc in the film. He hasn’t been at the forefront of other Avengers movies but he certainly has a very important role in this film. … I think you’ll see that Thor is at times hilarious and at times tragic in the film.

Interestingly, Russo also added a third character to the mix when talking about the “Infinity War” characters’ perspectives, including none other than Zoe Saldana‘s “Guardians of the Galaxy” heroine.

“[The movie’s] point of view is Thanos’ point of view, so it’s a villain driving the narrative. But … that being said, it is at times multi-perspective and there are very important roles for a couple of the heroes,” the director explained to Fandango. “I think you could argue, too, that a lot of the film is told from the point of view of Gamora, and I think she has a really fascinating arc in the movie.”

We’re already intrigued. Eager fans — who have broken ticket sales and trailer viewing recordswon’t have to wait much longer to see how everything plays out: “Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters worldwide on April 27.

  • ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Release Date Moved Up to April

Marvel had a big surprise for fans who can’t wait to see the latest installment of the “Avengers” series: “Infinity War” will now premiere a week earlier than scheduled.

The release date switcheroo — from original date May 4 to the new date, April 27 — was announced in a cheeky Twitter exchange between star Robert Downey Jr. and the official Marvel account. The public reasoning behind the change seems to be that now, the flick will have the same release date worldwide (typically, Marvel movies debut a week earlier internationally before they make their North American debut). Spoilerphobic fans should be pleased.

But May is also a very busy month at the multiplex, especially for Marvel parent company Disney, which is also set to debut the Lucasfilm flick “Solo: A Star Wars Story” on May 25. So it makes sense to try to prevent the films from cannibalizing each other’s audiences, and give “Infinity War” some more room to breathe at the box office before Solo comes storming in at the end of the month. (Another bonus of changing up the “Infinity War” premiere date: No direct competition with the debut of rival — for now, pending its proposed Disney merger — studio 20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool,” itself moved up to a new date, May 18.)

“Infinity War” is the most-anticipated movie of 2018, so fans should be pleased that they won’t have much longer to wait to finally see the big-screen team-up of the “Avengers” crew, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” gang, and the red-hot Wakanda heroes from current smash hit “Black Panther.” “Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters on April 27.

  • ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Is Most-Anticipated Movie of 2018, According to IMDb

The star-studded trailer for “Avengers: Infinity Warbroke viewing records when it debuted late last month, proving that after nearly a decade into the MCU, Marvel fans are still as passionate as ever about their favorite heroes. And that passion is directly responsible for “Infinity War” claiming the spot on IMDb’s list of the most-anticipated movies of 2018.

The film site announced this week which movies its users are most excited to see in the new year, as determined by each flick’s total number of page views. IMDb didn’t reveal exact numbers, but “Infinity War” led the pack, followed by two more Marvel (or Marvel-adjacent, anyway) titles: “Black Panther” and “Deadpool 2.”

Other titles of note on the list are “Jurassic World” sequel “Fallen Kingdom,” and the latest “Star Wars” spinoff flick, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The fabulous-looking female-centric spinoff “Ocean’s Eight” also made the cut.

    Here’s the full list:

    1. “Avengers: Infinity War” (May 4, 2018)
    2. “Black Panther” (Feb. 16, 2018)
    3. “Deadpool 2” (June 1, 2018)
    4. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (June 22, 2018)
    5. “Tomb Raider” (March 16, 2018)
    6. “Pacific Rim Uprising” ( March 23, 2018)
    7. “The Predator” (Aug. 3, 2018)
    8. “Ocean’s Eight” (June 8, 2018)
    9. “Mission: Impossible 6” (July 27, 2018)
    10. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (May 25, 2018)

In addition to looking ahead, IMDb also recapped the most popular movies of 2017, with horror flick “It” earning the top spot. “Wonder Woman,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Logan,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” rounded out the rest of the top five.

  • Evangeline Lilly Compares Post-‘Avengers 4’ MCU to ‘Lost’: ‘Everything’s About to Shift’

Big things are on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming release of “Infinity War,” the two-part conclusion to the “Avengers” saga. The epic flick is set to assemble dozens of beloved characters, and launch a new chapter in the MCU, one whose future — not to mention future timeline — is murky at best. Bending the concept of time is something recent MCU addition Evangeline Lilly can relate to, with the Wasp actress comparing this seismic shift in the Marvel galaxy to another high-profile project from her past.

    While Lost” alum.

“When I heard about ‘Infinity War’ and the direction that they’re heading, I did have this moment of realizing, oh, wow, there’s a bit of a déjà vu for me with the ‘Lost’ franchise,” Lilly said of the suggestion that the MCU will also feature “flash-forwards and flashbacks and flash-sideways,” just like the late ABC sci-fi series. “We are hitting that [‘Lost’] Season 4 space where everything’s about to shift, and you’re about to lose the solid ground underneath you. And [‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’], of course, will play a part in that.”

According to the actress, she and her “Ant-Man” cohorts seem especially well-equipped to play a key role in those unique time elements. Here’s how Lilly explained it to Vanity Fair:

“Those characters are experts in the quantum realm. In ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ they are trying everything in their power to safely enter the quantum realm and return back from it because they have evidence from the first film that Scott Lang was able to do that. If he can do it, why can’t we? If we do succeed in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ then that does open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in. I’m not the story creator, so I can’t tell you what they’re going to do with that. But I definitely see the potential there.”

It’s certainly an intriguing aspect of this new MCU, and like Lilly said, it suggests there’s lots of potential for the storytelling ahead. Fans may be sad to see the Avengers go, but it sounds like there’s plenty to be excited about, too.
