Deadline brings word that Warner Bros. has made a deal for Flanagan to write and direct a new take on King’s 1980 novella, which originally appeared in the collection ‘Skeleton Crew.’

King’s story concerns what happens when a small town in Maine is consumed by a thick mysterious fog from which creatures emerge to attack the townsfolk.
A group of survivors hole up in a local grocery store. As often happens with King’s fiction, anarchy and societal reordering brings out the best in some, and the absolute worst in others, sparking mob mentality and empowering unhinged extremists who become as dangerous as the horrors outside.
Spoiler alert: things get dark. Very dark.

There is no date for the new version as of yet, but if you want to check it out in movie form, Frank Darabont brought a film of the story to screens back in 2007.

With a thrifty reported budget of $3 million, the movie managed second place against ‘Send Help’, the latest effort by an established director (Sam Raimi) with all the might of the Disney marketing machine behind it.

‘Iron Lung’ follows a fugitive (Fischbach) in a post-apocalyptic future who, after a world-ending event known as “The Quiet Rapture,” must scavenge natural resources in an ocean of blood.
Even given the impressive start for ‘Iron Lung,’ Raimi’s ‘Send Help’ triumphed, bringing in $19.1 million. But it’s all the more stunning that ‘Iron Lung,’ which relied on grassroots, word-of-mouth marketing, was able to compete at all.

Ti West‘s homage to ’80s horror movies is so perfectly retro, it feels like a classic you’ve just stumbled across. One night, during a full moon, college student Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) is hired to sit an unseen old woman at a creepy, isolated house. It slowly builds to one hell of a bloody ending.
Yes, this film got terrible reviews, but like so many others on this list, it’s worth a look. Megan Fox plays a Regina George-type who’s not just ‘high school evil” but “evil evil.” She’s a demon; a literal maneater who must be stopped by nice girl BFF Amanda Seyfried.
‘Oldboy‘ director Park Chan-wook spins a very different kind of vampire tale in which a priest volunteers for a medical experiment that turns him into the living dead. He soon finds a companion who’s far more bloodthirsty than he could ever be.

Before ‘High-Rise,’ director Ben Wheatley directed this thriller in which two ex soldiers become freelance hit men for a mysterious new employer. Bloody Disgusting called it “the #1 Horror Film” of 2012. It’s definitely the creepiest.

Even given the massive popularity of the Capcom game series, ‘Resident Evil’s treatment on screens big and small has been hit or miss. Paul WS Anderson’s movies had their fun elements, but even they outstayed their welcome. And the more recent Netflix TV treatment didn’t exactly delight fans.

The exact details of how the director –– who has written the script with ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’s Shay Hatten –– will adapt the games, but he has at least opened up a little.
Here’s what Cregger told Inverse about his approach:
“I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games. It is obedient to the lore of the games, it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.”
And at CinemaCon this year he described the concept as this:
“It’s built in the spirit of those games and follows one central protagonist from point A to point B, as they descend deeper into hell.”

Despite the terror that realtors would probably like to ignore in their listings, it seems more and more people are looking to move into the house that is central to ‘The Amityville Horror’.
Back in July, we learned that writer/directors Joseph and Vanessa Winter were working with the producers of ‘Barbarian’ and ‘Companion’ to develop an independent take unmoored from the franchise continuity. But that’s not the only new movie in the works.

The ‘Amityville’ story has its roots in Jay Ansen’s 1977 novel ‘The Amityville Horror’, which was partly used as inspiration for 1979’s eponymous movie.
Directed by Stuart Rosenberg, it starred James Brolin and Margot Kidder, grossed more than $86 million against a modest budget and spawned a raft of follow-ups and reboots.
But stepping further back than that, there is a scary real-life history powering it all. That began in 1974, when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four siblings in their home at 112 Ocean in Amityville, New York.
A year or so after the horrific crime, George and Kathy Lutz, along with their three children, moved into the house, unaware of its dark past. And shortly after settling in, they claimed to experience a series of unsettling paranormal phenomena — among them, unexplained noises, cold spots, foul odors, and sightings of strange apparitions. After just 28 days, the family fled the house, unable to endure the alleged supernatural occurrences any longer.
When will this new ‘Amityville Horror’ be on screens?

And Warner Bros. is on a remarkable run.
The ‘Conjuring’ franchise –– launched back in 2013 by James Wan –– has been quite the reliable performer for Warner Bros., and this past weekend’s launch of latest entry ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ certainly kept that tradition alive.
‘Last Rites’, advertised as the final outing for Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, took in an impressive $83 million in its first three days.

That makes it the most successful entry in a franchise that, via a run of nine movies including sequels and spin-offs, has earned $2.3 billion.
This ‘Last Rites’ launch was easily enough to win the box office here in the US, and with $194 million worldwide, it is also the most successful launch for a horror title globally, overtaking Warners’ own ‘It’.
The success of ‘Last Rites’ marks an impressive theatrical run for Warner Bros. as the seventh consecutive release to open above $40 million. No other studio has ever achieved that level of consistency at the box office.
It’s even more remarkable when you consider that earlier in the year, the studio had suffered a series of duds from 2024 and the initial months of 2024 including ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’, ‘Mickey 17’ and ‘The Alto Knights’.
Studio Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were at risk of being fired until the likes of ‘A Minecraft Movie’, ‘Sinners’, ‘Superman’ and more began a run of hits, with movies sticking around beyond their first weekend.
What else happened at the box office this weekend?
Disney’s theatrical release of the filmed ‘Hamilton’ stage musical was a distant second, earning $10 million from 1,825 screens. It’s a solid start given that the movie has been on Disney+ since 2020.
A new entry in the ‘Final Destination’ franchise is in the works.

Death is good for business –– at least in New Line’s eyes.
The company, which has been putting the ‘Final Destination’ horror franchise into theaters for years now, has seen success with the latest, ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’, which opened this past May and has earned $285 million worldwide.
That was the first movie to release in the series in 14 years, and New Line isn’t waiting so long again, hiring ‘Bloodlines’ co-writer Lori Evans Taylor to start work on a seventh instalment.

Whatever it ends up being about (more on that below), the new movie will reunite Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle and Toby Emmerich to produce, but there’s no word yet on whether ‘Bloodlines’ directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein will similarly return.
Written by Taylor and recent ‘Scream’ veteran Guy Busick with story input from ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy director Watts, ‘Bloodlines’ saw a young college student plagued by a recurring nightmare of a calamity that causes mass fatalities.
But beyond even the usual panic to avoid a seemingly certain fate, she discovers that her entire family is marked for death and only one estranged relative may know how to prevent that from happening.
What could the story for ‘Final Destination 7’ be?
That’s the big question at this point, but ‘Bloodlines’ demonstrated real flexibility in the franchise. So it could go in almost any direction beyond the basic concept.
“That’s one of the things that Jon Watts, by bringing in the idea of starting in the ’60s and jumping forward 50 years, I think has liberated us creatively to be able to go to a lot of different places in time and to make connections that we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. I think that expansion, that sort of satellite view of the plan, I think is going to hopefully allow us an opportunity in the future to have even more interesting and creative deaths for the fans to enjoy.”
And here he is on the franchise as a whole:
“That’s why this franchise is weirdly evergreen because we don’t have necessarily continuing characters, so you can jump around. And the whole point of it is that it’s relatable, they’re in environments and situations that you might find yourself in.”
When will ‘Final Destination 7’ be in theaters?
There is no official date for the new movie yet, but we predict New Line will look to have this one in theaters before too long, so 2027 isn’t out of the question.
Much of the details for the movie remain under wraps at this early stage, but it marks a promising step for Brie, who has spent the last few years collaborating with husband and fellow filmmaker Dave Franco (who co-starred with her in ‘Together’).

Brie is really not revealing much about the script that she can Stanley wrote. Brie describes it as “female forward” with a “very fun energy”, and that she knew in her head that she’d end up directing it, describing how she could see shots as she was writing.
This is what she had to say about making the jump to film directing:
“I think women carry a lot of self-doubt and we have a desire to make everything perfect before we attempt something, or we learn everything we can learn. You want to really check the boxes and go, am I prepared for this? And at a certain point you have to just take the leap and believe in yourself.”
This won’t be Brie’s first time calling the shots: she’s previously directed an episode of wrestling drama ‘GLOW’.

Brie is busy at the moment –– she has been promoting ‘Together’ and has ‘Masters of the Universe’ headed to screens next year, where she plays Evil-Lyn.
She also has a role in new movie ‘The Revisionist’ about a novelist’s new work spirals out of control as she weaves real people into her narrative. The film doesn’t yet have a release date set.
Finally, there is a new drama series about a woman entering witness protection after a violent incident with her partner.
When would the new movie be in theaters?
It’s anyone’s guess at this point when the movie might be released –– theatrically or via streaming. But we have faith in Brie pushing forward on it.
