Kevin McCallister is back, and oh, how things have changed.
“Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin reprises his role from the 1990 Christmas film in a new commercial. The clever Google ad shows how much easier it can be to secure your home when you have an AI-powered virtual assistant rather than simply the resourcefulness of a precocious 8-year-old kid. In it, Culkin recreates some memorable scenes from the movie, but this time, all he needs are a few voice commands and clicks of a button.
One of the best parts of the ad is when Culkin asks Google to “begin Operation Kevin.” At that point, Christmas music goes on, the door automatically locks, and the fireplace lights. There’s even a more high-tech version of Kevin’s faux-party scene in the windows.
The song is right: You will get a sentimental feeling. Watch below.
Now he’s producing a “Home Alone” reboot — but with a very Deadpool-friendly twist.
According to Deadline, Ry guy is attached to produce “Stoned Alone,” following a 20-something weed growing “loser” who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip — somewhat similar to Macaulay Culkin‘s Kevin McCallister in the 1990 Christmas movie. Here’s more on “Stoned Alone” via Deadline:
“He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”
Strangely into this. It doesn’t sound like Ryan Reynolds would be starring in it, though, at least not as the 20-something lead character — unless they change that to 40-something. But come on. He can’t tease us with something like this and not show up on screen in some capacity.
Maybe he can play one of the thieves. Fans have already suggested Macaulay Culkin to play another one. That would be classic.
Augustine Frizzell will direct “Stoned Alone” from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
Stay tuned for more details, including casting and a release date.
John Heard, who played the dad in the first two “Home Alone” movies, died Friday. He was 72.
The film and TV actor was arguably best known for his role as Kevin McCallister’s father in “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.” According to Deadline, the cause of death is still under investigation by the Santa Clara County coroner’s office.
The Washington, D.C. native appeared in such films as “The Sopranos.”
His more recent credits include an April 2017 guest spot on WGN’s “Outsiders,” as well as roles on “Elementary” and “Modern Family.”
What would “Home Alone’s” Kevin McCallister be like if he was all grown up? Well, he might be a creepy Uber driver.
Macaulay Culkin revisits his famous role in the premiere of the web series “:DRYVRS,” created by Moldy Peaches musician Jack Dishel. In the series, Dishel interacts with the, um, colorful characters who are drivers of an unnamed car service. One of them is Culkin, who seems to be a thirtysomething Kevin McCallister.
“It’s f—ing Christmas time, and your whole family goes on vacation, right?,” Culkin’s character vents. “And they forget their 8-year-old f—ing son … all by yourself, in the house, for a week!”
He goes on to complain about the two “psychopath home invaders” he had to fend off. “I still have nightmares about this bald, weirdo dude chasing me around, talking like Yosemite Sam.”
Dishel’s ride takes a turn for the dark when someone tries to carjack them. Let’s just say Kevin still know how to protect himself.

“Home Alone” is an odd movie — half gooey holiday sentiment, half slapstick-cartoon sadism.
Still, upon its release 25 years ago (on November 16, 1990), it became an instant Christmastime favorite. It also made Macaulay Culkin one of the most popular child stars in Hollywood history, while also becoming both the all-time top-grossing live-action comedy and top-grossing Christmas movie.
You’d think all that success would have ensured career longevity for everyone involved, but not so. Here’s what’s become of the cast of “Home Alone” since little Kevin first fought off the Wet Bandits after his family forgot to take him along to Paris.
