‘Saturday Night Live’ Taps Kevin Hart, James Franco as Final 2017 Hosts
“Saturday Night Live” is closing out the year with two veteran hosts.
NBC’s late night sketch show has tapped James Franco to host for the fourth time on December 9, with musical guest SZA. And the winter finale will be emceed by Kevin Hart, who marks his third appearance, with musical guest Foo Fighters.
Franco is promoting “The Disaster Artist,” which is getting a lot of Oscar buzz, while Hart’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” hits theaters a few days after his “SNL” gig.
Rounding out December is previously-announced, first-time host Saoirse Ronan of “Lady Bird” and musical guest U2:

Franco and Hart are well-used to the stage at Studio 8H. Here’s a memorably kooky sketch from Franco’s last appearance in 2014:
Meanwhile, in 2015, Hart caused a bit of a stir by spoofing the gentrification of Bushwick in Brooklyn:

‘Nashville’ Will End (Again) After Season 6: Watch the Final Season Sneak Peek
“Nashville” will come to a “triumphant close” in 2018. The Powers That Be promise the final Season 6 will be “the most exciting and memorable of all.”It’s going to be hard to top the “memorable” event of Rayna Jaymes dying, or the memorable event of the show being canceled the first time, by ABC in 2016. CMT picked up the show from there, giving fans a fifth and now a sixth season. But Season 6, starting in early January, will be the last hurrah.
Here’s what executive producer Marshall Herskovitz said via statement (via TVLine):
“All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show’s fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters. And we want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns — and amazing music! — that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years.”
Kevin Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television Group, added:
“After more than 120 episodes of unforgettable television, we believe that creatively it is time for the series to come to its triumphant close at the end of the upcoming season. We’re very proud of our incredibly talented cast and crew, the creative brilliance of our showrunners, and the loyal support of our great partners at CMT, Hulu and ABC Studios. Most importantly, we owe a special debt of thanks to the Nashville fans who propelled the series to an incredible run. We owe it to them to make the sixth season the most exciting and memorable of all.”
Hard to express the amount of gratitude in my heart. This role, this show, and this city have changed everything for me and mine. I’ll have plenty of time to give my thanks to so many, but for now: To our incredibly loyal #Nashies all over the world: THANK YOU ???? #NoYouNoUs https://t.co/Rwtc6ysSgU

The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 14 Midseason Finale Is an Edge-of-Your-Seat Cliffhanger
How is it already time for the last “Grey’s Anatomy” episode of 2017?It seems like Season 14 just started. Maybe that’s because time flies when you’re having fun, and Season 14 has been pretty great so far (especially last week’s 300th episode).
Episode 8 is the fall finale, titled “Out of Nowhere,” and co-showrunner Krista Vernoff told TVLine it’s an “edge-of-your-seat action movie.” Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) directed the episode, and he told TVLine the fall finale is “kind of like ‘Speed’ [without] the bus. It’s a moving freight train, and then it hits this point at the end of the episode where you’re like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ It really is a classic and beautifully done cliffhanger episode.”
Ah. Another cliffhanger. Such teases.
Here’s ABC’s full synopsis for the midseason finale:
A HACKER GETS INTO GREY SLOAN’S SYSTEM AND WREAKS HAVOC IN THE HOSPITAL, ON THE MIDSEASON FINALE OF ABC’S ‘GREY’S ANATOMY’
“Out of Nowhere” – A hacker compromises the hospital’s computer system, causing monitors, phones, labs and patient files to all go down. As technology fails them, Bailey attempts to keep the peace but chaos erupts and the doctors are forced to get creative in their methods to treat the patients, on the fall finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, NOV. 16 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network.
Guest starring is Stefania Spampinato as Carina DeLuca.
“Out of Nowhere” was written by William Harper and directed by Kevin McKidd.
That photo above is from this episode, so amid all the hacker drama we should also expect a bit more awkwardness in the (completely random) Owen/Carina/Arizona love triangle.
Here are two more photos, focusing on the hacker issue:

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs the fall finale Thursday, November 16, and then next week is Thanksgiving, and we’re out of luck until the show returns in 2018.Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.

Ben Affleck on Batman Exit: ‘I Want to Find a Graceful and Cool Way to Segue Out’
The future of Batfleck is still in question.
Ben Affleck recently joined the cast of “Justice League” on the red carpet, promoting his second major turn as Bruce Wayne/Batman after “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” There have been contradictory rumors about his involvement in the DCEU moving forward, but nothing solid. All we know is that he was going to co-write, direct, and star in “The Batman” solo film for Warner Bros./DC, and now Matt Reeves is directing with a new script.
Will Affleck even play Batman in “The Batman”?
Here’s part of USA Today‘s new report:
“The new Batman movie being developed by Matt Reeves (‘War for the Planet of the Apes’) is ‘something I’m contemplating,’ says Affleck, who originally was tapped to direct. ‘You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.’
While he ponders his own future as the Dark Knight, the actor does see a timeliness in Justice League’s arrival now. ‘We certainly are in need of heroes in 2017,’ Affleck says. ‘There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world, from natural to man-made disasters, and it’s really scary. Part of the appeal of this genre is wish fulfillment: Wouldn’t it be nice if there was somebody who can save us from all this, save us from ourselves, save us from the consequences of our actions and save us from people who are evil?’”
Yes, that’s part of the superhero appeal. Someone who can just swoop in and save us from ourselves.
But his comment about his future as Batman — wanting to find a graceful and cool exit — mirrors at least one of the past rumors. That one came from a Hollywood Reporter source who said, in July, that the studio wants to usher Affleck out “gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films.” That was in contrast to Warner Bros telling THR, also in a July report, “Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.”
Shortly after those reports, Affleck laughed off the idea that he was leaving. “Batman is the coolest f**king part in any universe, DC, Marvel,” Affleck said during San Diego Comic-Con. “I’m so thrilled to do it.” However, the next month, his own brother Casey Affleck said he didn’t think Ben would return for “The Batman.” He may have been just making that up, as he joked, but … would he do that?
For now, we have Affleck as Batman in “Justice League,” which has been getting mostly positive early reactions, and will open wide this Friday, Nov. 17.

Early ‘Justice League’ Reactions Are in and They Aren’t Terrible
That sound you hear is Warner Bros. execs breathing a sigh of relief.
Diane Lane raved about “Justice League,” but now non-cast members are weighing in. Reviews are still embargoed, so critics took to social media to share their early reactions. The word “flaws” comes up, but so does “fun,” which — let’s be honest — is not always the word that leaps to mind when it comes to DC films like “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman,” and “Suicide Squad.”
Overall, it sounds like critics found “Justice League” to be a step in the right direction for the franchise, which just had a critical and fan hit in “Wonder Woman” this past summer.
Here are some reactions:
I think if you are going to a #JusticeLeague movie to see all your favorite DC heroes rocking their skills & being the badasses you love, then you will get plenty of that. Lots of action. Lots of superheroes being superheroes.
— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) November 10, 2017
They did it???? Justice League is wonderful. Heartfelt, funny, but with high stakes and consequences. They address and fix many peoples issues with BvS, but in ways it helps the story and characters. So many surprises you all have no idea about. #justiceleague
— Mike Kalinowski (@MikeKalinowski) November 10, 2017
People that have complained about DC movies being too dark are about to see the light #JusticeLeague pic.twitter.com/eB1JoNJTvi
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) November 10, 2017
So yes the #JusticeLeague social embargo is up so I can finally say, this movie is exactly what I think a lot of DC fans have been waiting for since Batman v Superman was announced…
— David Crow (@DCrowsNest) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague exceeded my expectations! JL was a BLAST! Don’t go in thinking a Nolan lecture, it’s an action popcorn movie (which felt like it should’ve been released during the Summer) and it was dope❗️The dork in me was ecstatic! Killed it! pic.twitter.com/WFUC1ADBGq
— Ken Pejoro (@Powerless_ness) November 10, 2017
I saw #justiceleague & It’s really good!!! Strong film. #WonderWoman did her amazing thing. #Batman came to play. #Cyborg is a star. #Aquaman made me pumped 4 his film. The pacing is perfect. Zack & Joss blended together well. Oh & you’re gonna wanna stay until the very end ????. pic.twitter.com/wRGvcAg2Hn
— Roxy Striar (@roxystriar) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague is a blast from start to finish. Pure visual comic book fun pic.twitter.com/4d4eYB4p6a
— Chris Sylvia (@sylvioso) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague is fine. It’s more coherent & less idiosyncratic than Batman v Superman (which I loved, so make of that what you will), and tries very hard to lighten up on the gloom & doom of the DC universe. There are jokes and everything!
— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague was entertaining for a good portion of the time though thin on storytelling and character development. There’s more fun, humor and heart than BvS but it also feels very rushed with some scenes given zero time to develop.
— Dennis Tzeng (@ThinkHero) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague is solid entertainment despite some problems. They pulled off a strange alchemy that works better than it should. The story is lacking, but the League is great and it’s a blast to watch them in action together. Wonder Woman is clutch, obvi.
— Haleigh Foutch (@HaleighFoutch) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague is good!
(And I can finally talk about it!)
Wonder Woman is wonderful, Aquaman is surprisingly cool, Flash is hilarious, Batman is drunk, the story is coherent, and it’s all surprisingly funny. It’s not perfect, but really enjoyable!
Full review to come! pic.twitter.com/YzgSL4FBOP
— Mike Rougeau (@RogueCheddar) November 10, 2017
I am genuinely happy to report #JusticeLeague is a lot of fun. It’s not perfect and has its problems, but does the job of making you care about these characters as a team by its end. It’s also VERY funny, in lots of unexpected ways. pic.twitter.com/1AAjYgv16i
— Terri Schwartz (@Terri_Schwartz) November 10, 2017
#JusticeLeague is a fun blockbuster that is entertaining enough to overcome its flaws. The team works well together to deliver more than a few spectacular superhero moments worth seeing on the big screen.
Maybe not quite what some hoped, but definitely not what many feared.
— Sean Gerber (@MrSeanGerber) November 10, 2017
SO I saw #JusticeLeague -twice. Still under embargo, but: This is a fun superhero flick. Funny but still hero adventure. Reminds me of JL Unlimited ep. Likable interaction amongst recognizable heroes. There is a villain problem (no worse than Marvel’s) – @aaronsagers
— Aaron Sagers (@aaronsagers) November 10, 2017
Here it goes … #JusticeLeague is super thin and has some very weak CG but it’s got heart and a positive vibe that works. Overall, I had a pretty good time and am looking forward to seeing more of these characters.
— Perri Nemiroff (@PNemiroff) November 10, 2017
I saw #JusticeLeague! Here’s what I thought. There are ton of things I’d change but it comes down to this: I had a blast! I got to see the team together and I had fun watching it. Ezra Miller steals the movie and #WonderWoman was perfect! pic.twitter.com/rgCI9fUuTs
— Jenna Busch (@JennaBusch) November 10, 2017
The flaws rest mainly on the rapid-fire pace, lack of suspense and a villain that fails on every level to be scary, formidable or memorable. Thankfully, the League does not fall in that category. #JusticeLeague @joblocom
— Paul Shirey (@arcticninjapaul) November 10, 2017
And do make sure you stay for the post credits scene of #JusticeLeague, ITS ONE OF THE BEST!! Major implications for the future…
— Adam Gertler (@AdamGertler) November 10, 2017
You heard, or at least read, the man: The post-credits scene is something to look forward to and analyze for the future of the DCEU. Get hyped!

First Look at New ‘Doctor Who’ Jodie Whittaker in Costume
New Doctor, new look.BBC One unveiled the first image of Jodie Whittaker in costume as the next “Doctor Who.” Whittaker is the first woman to play the role in its 50-year history, taking over from Peter Capaldi. The “Broadchurch” star makes her debut in this December’s Christmas special, when the Doctor regenerates.
Whittaker’s Doctor sports cropped teal pants, yellow suspenders, a navy sweater with stripe, combat boots, and some quirky earrings. She also wears a coat, as all Doctors do, though hers looks lighter and a bit more modern than previous tweed numbers.

While some fans grumbled about a woman as the Doctor, many others lauded the choice by new showrunner Chris Chibnall (also the creator of “Broadchurch”).
After the casting announcement last summer, Whittaker said, “I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and ‘Doctor Who’ represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”

Christopher Plummer to Replace Kevin Spacey in Ridley Scott Movie Coming Out in 6 Weeks
Wow. Can they really pull this off?
Director Ridley Scott‘s movie “All the Money in the World” was already done. It’s still planning to keep its current release date of December 22. But it does not want to keep Kevin Spacey anymore, after the multiple sexual misconduct allegations against him. So they’re really going to do something wild — replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the role of J. Paul Getty, once the richest man in the world.
“All the Money in the World” — costarring Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg — is about the kidnapping of Getty’s grandson, with the billionaire reluctant to pay the ransom. (FYI, the 16-year-old grandson is played by Charlie Plummer, but there seems to be no relation to Christopher Plummer.)
Since they aged Spacey and really made him stretch for the role, it does seem like Christopher Plummer could probably step in, skip the hair and makeup transformation, and fill the role of the cold patriarch with ease. This is in his wheelhouse.
Ridley Scott’s movie was pulled from the upcoming AFI Fest thanks to the Spacey allegations, and they clearly don’t want to be attached to those headlines anymore. So they’re erasing him from the film in the eleventh hour.
After the replacement news came out, the Internet had a little bit too much fun with the idea:
let’s go ahead and have Christopher Plummer replace Kevin Spacey in everything pic.twitter.com/azXKuc2Dhu

According to Entertainment Weekly, “All the Money in the World” reshoots are expected to begin soon, and even though we’re only six weeks out, they still plan to release the movie starting Friday, Dec. 22.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Post’ Trailer (and Stunning Poster) Arrived at the Perfect Time
FYI, this is the first trio team-up for Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, and Tom Hanks.“The Post” just dropped its first trailer, with the film hitting select theaters in December in time for Oscars consideration, with a wide release in January. The film focuses on freedom/overreach of the press, government conspiracies and cover-ups, extreme political divides, and concerns about the first woman in charge. It’s set decades ago — and based on what really happened decades ago — but still feels timely as we enter 2018.
Here’s the full synopsis from 20th Century Fox:
“Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post, a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers – and their very freedom – to help bring long-buried truths to light.
The Post marks the first time Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have collaborated on a project. In addition to directing, Spielberg produces along with Amy Pascal and Kristie Macosko Krieger. The script was written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, and the film features an acclaimed ensemble cast including Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods.”
Check out the poster:

“The Post” will be released in select theaters on December 22, then go wide on January 12, 2018.

Diane Lane Just Saw ‘Justice League’ & Shared Her ‘Very Psyched’ Review
Martha Kent is a proud mama.“TODAY” talking up “Justice League,” which features her return as Superman’s mom. DC’s sequel to “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice” opens Friday, Nov. 17, and Lane said she just saw the completed film.
She’s a biased source, of course, but if you watch her “TODAY” clip she sounds pleasantly surprised to like the film so much:
“I just saw the movie and I’m very psyched. I’m very pleased. Lots of surprises, and some fabulous acting from everybody. I mean, I was totally impressed. […] We have, I mean, Gal Gadot’s amazing, obviously, and I’m huge fans of everybody in it. We’ve got Cyborg now, we’ve got The Flash now , we’ve got Aquaman now. So a lot more for a lot more fans.”
Her “Justice League” quotes start around the 1:15 mark of the video below, followed by some “Wonder Woman” gushing:Of course she’s going to praise a movie she’s in. But still. It’s a good start!
More “Justice League” reviews should be coming out soon, from critics and fans who aren’t also paid by the studio.
“Justice League” opens in theaters November 17.
