From the start, creator/showrunner Mike White has been able to command an eclectic, often starry cast for HBO series ‘The White Lotus,’ which spins a murder mystery each season at a different resort from the titular fictional chain.

And the fourth is no exception, as Helena Bonham Carter, Kumail Nanjiani and Max Greenfield are aboard the season.

    • Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Freeman and Mia McKenna-Bruce will star in ‘The Seven Dials Mystery’.
    • ‘Broadchurch’ and ‘Doctor Who’ writer Chris Chibnall adapted the series.
    • Netflix is backing the show.

The murder mystery genre is one of those evergreen sources for movies and TV, and Agatha Christie is one of the major players in that field (despite, you know being dead since 1976). Her work is consistently adapted –– probably most famously currently for the Poirot movies starring and directed by Kenneth Branagh.

But TV has usually been seen as the natural home for work based on the writer’s iconic books, and Netflix is looking to get in on that action with a new show based on ‘The Seven Dials Mystery’, which will star Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Freeman (already well versed in the mystery genre thanks to ‘Sherlock’) and up-and-coming young star Mia McKenna-Bruce, who got a big break with last year’s movie drama ‘How to Have Sex’.

First published in 1929, Christie’s tome is set in England in 1925. At a lavish country house party, a practical joke appears to have gone horribly, murderously wrong.

It will be up to the unlikeliest of sleuths –– the fizzingly inquisitive Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent (Bruce) –– to unravel a chilling plot that will change her life, cracking wide open the country house mystery.

Carter is playing Lady Caterham and Freeman will be a police officer named Battle.

Who is making ‘The Seven Dials Mystery’?

The new series comes from Chris Chibnall, who previously created and wrote crime drama series ‘Broadchurch’ before moving on to run ‘Doctor Who’ for a few years.

And producing is Suzanne Mackie, who worked at Left Bank Pictures on ‘The Crown’ and formed her own production company, Orchid Pictures in 2020.

Chris Sweeney (‘The Tourist‘) is aboard to direct the series.

Here’s what Mia McKenna-Bruce said about the show:

“Chris Chibnall’s scripts are brilliant, and I am thrilled to be part of this new interpretation of the iconic Agatha Christie’s storytelling.”

    And here’s producer Mackie commenting:

“I am excited to be bringing ‘The Seven Dials Mystery’ to life, and to be introducing a new generation of iconic Christie characters to the screen. It has been a joy to work with Chris Chibnall in creating this bold, authored, and ambitious vision for the series. Together with Chris Sussman and Agatha Christie Limited and, under the masterful direction of Chris Sweeney, we are thrilled to embark on this creative journey. I could not think of a more exciting first project for Orchid Pictures, or a more perfect home for this story than Netflix.”

  • New ‘Enola Holmes 2’ Trailer

    tkkMwdr1

In 2020, Millie Bobby Brown proved she was more than just Eleven from ‘Stranger Things’ for Netflix, playing the character of Enola Holmes in the first movie named for her. It was a big success for the streaming service, and we already knew that a sequel was on the way.

At this year’s big TUDUM virtual event, Netflix offered the first full trailer for the new movie.

The first movie found Enola taking her first steps in her detective brothers’ path, using her genius intellect to figure out why her mother went missing and how it all ties into a conspiracy around a mysterious young lord.

Here’s the plot for this one… Fresh off the triumph of solving her first case, Enola Holmes (Brown) follows in the footsteps of her famous brother, Sherlock (Henry Cavill), and opens her own agency — only to find that life as a female detective-for-hire isn’t as easy as it seems.

Not only are there the sexist bores who don’t believe a young woman can run such a business, there are all the customers who show up hoping that she can connect them with Sherlock.

Resigned to accepting the cold realities of adulthood, she is about to close shop when a penniless matchstick girl offers Enola her first official job: to find her missing sister.

But this case proves to be far more puzzling than expected, as Enola is thrown into a dangerous new world — from London’s sinister factories and colorful music halls to the highest echelons of society and 221B Baker Street itself. Since the case appears to intersect with one that has been vexing her sibling.

As the sparks of a deadly conspiracy ignite, Enola must call upon the help of friends — and Sherlock himself — to unravel her mystery. The game, it seems, has found its feet again!

The cast this time includes the returning likes of Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Partridge (as Tewkesbury), Susan Wokoma (as Edith) and Adeel Akhtar (as Lestrade). New the ensemble are ‘Dune’s Sharon Duncan-Brewster and ‘Sandman’s David Thewlis, who, from the looks of the trailer is a police chief not all that pleased to learn of Enola’s new status as a detective.

Behind the camera is the same team as the 2020 movie – director Harry Bradbeer and writer Jack Thorne, once again adapting Springer’s ‘Enola Holmes’ book series. And, of course, some credit goes to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created the Sherlock Holmes characters from which ‘Enola’ draws its inspiration.

This sequel promises to be just as packed with action and comedy, with more of the to-camera asides from Enola as she makes her way through this latest adventure.

‘Enola Holmes 2’ will debut on Netflix on November 4th.

(L to R) Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, and Louis Partridge as Viscount Tewkesbury in Netflix’s ‘Enola Holmes 2.’

Roughly two years ago, Netflix cemented its association with ‘Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown by having her star in and produce ‘Enola Holmes’, in which she plays Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister.

Co-starring Henry Cavill as Sherlock, Sam Claflin as eldest brother Mycroft and Helena Bonham Carter as her troubled mother Eudoria Holmes, it was a hit for the streaming service and naturally spawned talk of a sequel, not least because the movie adapted Nancy Springer’s book series, which meant other stories were available.

The first movie found Enola taking her first steps in her detective brothers’ path, using her genius intellect to figure out why her mother went missing and how it all ties into a conspiracy around a mysterious young lord.

Netflix and the filmmakers will, of course, be hoping to avoid the legal troubles that followed the release of the original. The Conan Doyle estate brought a lawsuit claiming that the “warmer” Sherlock as portrayed by Cavill is drawn from stories that are still under copyright. The case was eventually dismissed, though in a way that points to a settlement being paid. With luck, that’ll ensure that Enola stays out of the courtroom this time – at least, off the screen.

  • Helena Bonham Carter Joins ‘Enola Holmes’ Opposite Millie Bobby Brown in Sherlock Holmes Spinoff

Helena Bonham Carter Joins ‘Enola Holmes’ Opposite Millie Bobby Brown in Sherlock Holmes Spinoff

    Warner Bros.

It’s elementary, dear moviegoers — Helena Bonham Carter is joining the cast of the Sherlock Holmes spinoff movie “Enola Holmes.”

She’ll star opposite Millie Bobby Brown, who is playing the titular character, the much younger sister to Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. Carter will play Enola’s mother.

The “Enola Holmes Mysteries” YA book series began in 2006 with “The Case of the Missing Marquess” and continued for five more novels. Enola turns out to be a highly capable detective in her own right.

Carter starred in last year’s “Ocean’s Eight” and can next be seen as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s “The Crown” (taking over for Vanessa Kirby).

New ‘The Crown’ Photos Reveal Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret (Plus Husband)

    The Crown
    Netflix

    YAS, QUEEN, er, PRINCESS!

“The Crown” Season 3 is now filming for its Netflix return in 2019.

On Monday, we got the first look at new Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman), with the caption “Patience.”

Apparently, that was the start of a theme.

The next two photos were just released — the first showing our adored Helena Bonham Carter as our adored Princess Margaret, with the caption “Hope.”

She’s smoking, because of course. Vanessa Kirby, we adore you too, but your girl is in good hands.

The third photo from Season 3 shows Margaret’s husband, Lord Snowdon, aka Antony Armstrong-Jones, aka Tony. Matthew Goode played him in Season 2, and now we have the dashing Ben Daniels (“The Exorcist,” “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert”) as the slightly older version:

So you have to imagine our first look at Tobias Menzies as the new Prince Philip is coming soon. TVLine reports that Erin Doherty (“Call the Midwife”) will be playing Princess Anne, daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

This series is “The Crown” because it follows the queen, but please please please just put the camera on HBC as Princess Margaret and let her shine, because that’s where the real show is going to be.

  • ‘The Crown’ Season 3 Recasts Princess Margaret’s Husband With Another Perfect Choice

In “The Crown” Season 3, Princess Margaret will be played by the divine light called Helena Bonham Carter. In Season 2, we saw Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister marry photographer Antony “Tony” Armstrong-Jones.

In Season 3, set several years later with older actors in the roles, we’ll see that marriage start to crumble.

Matthew Goode played Snowdon in Season 2, and it was revealed that British actor Ben Daniels will spar with HBC in Season 3.

Ben Daniels is a phenomenal actor you may have seen on the already-missed “The Exorcist,” or in “House of Cards,” or as Pontius Pilate in NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!”

He’s as thrilled as anyone to be joining the Netflix cast:

According to Variety, Season 3 is expected to cover the mid 1960s through the early 1970s. Princess Margaret and Tony, aka Lord Snowdon, were married in 1960 and divorced in 1978.

Although it’s painful to lose the cast from the first two seasons, we’re in good hands for Season 3 and Season 4. Olivia Colman is filling the big shoes of multi-award-winner Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II. Tobias Menzies is taking over from Matt Smith as the queen’s husband, Prince Phillip. And of course HBC will entertain us all as Princess Margaret.

“The Crown” Season 3 is expected to start taping this July for a premiere on Netflix in 2019.

  • ‘Bond 25’ Reportedly Wants Helena Bonham Carter for Villain, and We’re Shaken

    Bond, meet Bellatrix?

Helena Bonham Carter — next to be seen in “Ocean’s 8” this week, and then as Princess Margaret in “The Crown” Season 3 — is reportedly the top choice to play the next Bond villain in what we’re all calling “Bond 25” until told otherwise.

That said, the rumor comes via the U.K. tabloid The Mirror. So as much as we’re shaken-not-stirred by the idea, it’s nowhere near official.

And yet it’s not exactly shocking to think “Bond 25” would want HBC. She’s magic — and not just in “Harry Potter” movies.

This Mirror report said she’s No. 1 on producers’ wish list, and an insider even name-dropped her competition:

“Everyone thinks Angelina Jolie is going to get the part but bosses want Helena more. At the moment they are just finalising the cast.”

Angelina Jolie vs. HBC — which would you pick? Both are amazing, and Angelina already worked with Daniel Craig in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” … but we’d give the edge to HBC.

Director Danny Boyle and company may end up throwing fans a curve ball, but for now it looks like we have our villain frontrunners. There’s still a decent amount of time to decide, with production set to start in December.

Daniel Craig is said to be making serious bucks for his fifth James Bond movie, which is scheduled for release in theaters on November 8, 2019.

  • Helena Bonham Carter Is the New Princess Margaret In ‘The Crown’

Helena Bonham CarterThe Crown,” according to the Evening Standard.

The role is currently played by The Night Manager” Golden Globe winner Olivia Colman.

The British paper reports that the deal is “all but confirmed” for Bonham Carter play the sister of Queen Elizabeth II in the hit Netflix series. She was reportedly approached to play the older Elizabeth, but opted instead to play the “friskier” sister.

She previously played the future Queen Mother (and wife of King George VI) in “The King’s Speech,” for which she earned her second Oscar nomination. Coincidentally, Colman played the same role in “Hyde Park on Hudson.” If you’re a British actress, it’s a given you’re going to play a Queen at least once in your career.

No word yet on who’ll take over as the older Prince Philip, who’s currently played by former Doctor Who Matt Smith.
