Born November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, California, Eric William Dane discovered his passion for acting in high school. After relocating to Los Angeles to pursue his career, he began landing guest roles in popular television series throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

His major breakthrough came in 2006 when he joined the cast of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ as Dr. Mark Sloan. Originally introduced as a recurring character, Dane’s portrayal of the confident plastic surgeon — quickly nicknamed “McSteamy” by fans — proved so popular that he was elevated to series regular. The role cemented his status as a television heartthrob and showcased his ability to balance charisma with emotional vulnerability.

Following his departure from ‘Grey’s,’ Dane starred in TNT’s action drama ‘The Last Ship’, further demonstrating his range as a leading man in high-stakes storytelling.

The role introduced him to a younger audience and reaffirmed his staying power in an evolving television landscape.

In addition to his television success, Dane appeared in films including ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ where he portrayed the mutant Multiple Man, and the romantic comedy ‘Valentine’s Day.’

Throughout his career, he navigated both professional triumphs and personal challenges, speaking candidly in interviews about struggles with health and the pressures of fame.

ABC Renews ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Station 19,’ ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ and Cancels ‘For the People’

    ABC

ABC is signing up for more TGIT.

The network has renewed Thursday night dramas “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Station 19,” and “How to Get Away With Murder,” all from Shonda Rhimes’ production company Shondaland.

However, ABC is cancelling the legal drama “For the People” after two seasons.

“Grey’s Anatomy” received renewals for both Seasons 16 and 17. This year, it surpassed “ER” as the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history in number of episodes (341 to 331 for the NBC staple). Now, it will become the longest-running medical drama in number of seasons (17 vs. “ER’s” 15).

The firefighter drama “Station 19” has held steady in the ratings in its second season. A recent crossover with “Grey’s Anatomy” proved a success. “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner Krista Vernoff will also oversee “Station 19” beginning next season.

“HTGAWM, ” which stars Viola Davis as hard-charging lawyer/professor Annalise Keating, will return for a sixth season.

Another ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ Crossover Is on Its Way

Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 crossover
    ABC

This is not a drill: The beloved doctors and firefighters of Shondaland are joining forces once again.

Another “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19” crossover is scheduled to air in May. The two shows will again intersect in back-to-back episodes. The big TV event is set for Thursday, May 2, starting with “Grey’s Anatomy” at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and then “Station 19” at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Unfortunately, the crossover means someone from Station 19 will need medical care at Grey Sloan. In the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 15 episode “What I Did for Love,” Maggie (Kelly McCreary) will be in charge of the person. Meanwhile, Joe (Camilla Luddington) will learn a hard lesson and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) make a decision that could jeopardize her career.

The “Station 19” Season 2 episode “Always Ready” will show the firefighters dealing with one of their team members having been hurt in a deadly fire. The synopsis teases that there is a “life-threatening situation.” Yikes.

With “Station 19” being a spinoff of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the two shows have crossed over before. In fact, they most recently did so earlier this season; the episodes debuted on Oct. 11.

The upcoming crossover should be another intriguing one. Be ready on May 2.

  • Sofia Vergara Is the Highest-Paid TV Actress for the 7th Year in a Row

Sofia Vergara Is the Highest-Paid TV Actress for the 7th Year in a Row

MODERN FAMILY - "Good Grief" - It's another epic Halloween full of costumes, tricks and treats for the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker clan as they deal with huge, unexpected news, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, OCT. 24 (9:00-9:31 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. SOFIA VERGARA
    ABC/Tony Rivetti

Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid star on TV — by so much — for the seventh year in a row.

She’s not just the highest-paid actress, she also topped the list of actors’ pay, which was released yesterday.

But Vergara only makes about half of her $42.5 million payday from “Modern Family.” According to Forbes, the rest of her money is from her many endorsements, plus lucrative licensing deals.

Cameron and Gloria Modern Family gif
    ABC

As Forbes noted, Vergara’s 2017-2018 pay was 73 percent more than the $24.5 million Kaley Cuoco picked up to rank No. 2 on the actress list.  But 95 percent of Cuoco’s pay is from “The Big Bang Theory.” (Cuoco’s total is slightly less than the No. 1 on the actor list, her “Big Bang Theory” co-star Jim Parsons.)

And despite all the hullabaloo about Ellen Pompeo’s new contract for “Grey’s Anatomy” making her the highest-paid TV actress, she’s actually No. 3.

    The World’s Highest-Paid Actresses 2018:

    1. Sofia Vergara
    Earnings: $42.5 million
    “Modern Family”

    2. Kaley Cuoco
    $24.5 million
    “The Big Bang Theory”

    3. Ellen Pompeo
    $23.5 million
    “Grey’s Anatomy”

    4. Mariska Hargitay
    $13 million
    “Law & Order: SVU”

    5. Julie Bowen
    $12.5 million
    “Modern Family”

    6. (tie) Mayim Bialik
    $12 million
    “Big Bang Theory”

    6. (tie) Melissa Rauch
    $12 million
    “Big Bang Theory”

    8. Kerry Washington
    $11 million
    “Scandal”

    9. Claire Danes
    $9 million
    “Homeland”

    10. Pauley Perrette
    $8.5 million
    “NCIS”

“Scandal” is now over, Perrette has left “NCIS,” and both “Homeland” and “The Big Bang Theory” have announced they are ending soon. So this list, like the men’s list, is going to break wide open in the next couple of years.

  • Which Fan Favorite Network Drama Original Cast Member Is Leaving This Season?

Which Fan Favorite Network Drama Original Cast Member Is Leaving This Season?

    Grey's Anatomy, NCIS
    ABC/CBS

Time for a juicy blind item clue!

TVLine just dropped a tease on an original cast member leaving his or her drama series at the end of this season. The site mentioned its 2019 May Sweeps Scorecard, so the star in question should make it to the end of this current 2018-2019 season.

We already know Andrew Lincoln is leaving “The Walking Dead,” but that’s 1) not a secret and 2) not a network show. AMC is not one of the Big 5 (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, The CW), and TVLine said this original cast member at a long-running drama on a Big 5 network is leaving his or her series at the end of this year.

They said it’s an “extremely amicable” split, so there are no hard feelings. The actor/actress is said to be “a fan favorite by any measure” who is leaving by their own choice.

Also, for what it’s worth, they added “…to reveal the identity of the performer with one-and-a-half-feet out the door would risk spoiling the storyline…” Some fans are reading into the one-and-a-half-feet out the door line, as if maybe the current storyline has already hinted to their departure. But TVLine may just have meant the star is still filming but confirmed to be on the way out.

    So … any guesses?

Some fans have guessed aGrey’s Anatomy star, although it’s probably not Ellen Pompeo, since she famously signed a new contract through next year’s Season 16. She may indeed leave after Season 16, but Season 15 is the one now airing on ABC, so it’s probably not her. Besides, they didn’t say the “lead” star, just an original cast member.

    Grey's Anatomy
    ABC

Still, maybe it’s Justin Chambers (Alex Karev) or another OG from Season 1 — like Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), or James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber)?

Other fans guessed someone from “NCIS,” like Mark Harmon (Gibbs) or David McCallum (Ducky). Still other fans guessed someone from “Chicago Fire” or “Hawaii Five-0” or “Criminal Minds” or “Law & Order: SVU.”

TVLine often gives bonus clues later on, or says it’s not _______. So just make your early predictions now, and see if you’re right later on.

From here, guessing it’s someone from “Grey’s Anatomy.” Maybe Webber leaves us?

  • ‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Alex Will Be a ‘Delightfully Different’ Chief

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Alex Will Be a ‘Delightfully Different’ Chief

Grey's Anatomy Season 15, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev
    ABC

The two-episode “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 15 premiere ended with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) as the new interim chief.

    He’s the boss.

And it’s going to be fun.

Just seeing Alex twirl his chair around behind Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) desk was fun. Just seeing Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) consternation that he is her new boss was fun.

    https://twitter.com/ThePompeoMethod/status/1045145533243887617

All in all, the Jolex honeymoon didn’t turn out as planned, but it ended very well for both of them. Thanks to Bailey. Bailey invented a position for Jo (Camilla Luddington) to do her research (poaching Meredith’s idea), and Bailey kept Alex around by giving him her own job. At least temporarily.

“Grey’s” showrunner Krista Vernoff talked with THR about what’s ahead, including under the reign of interim Chief Karev.

THR: Speaking of interim chief, how will Alex be a different chief than the ones we’ve seen before? How will Alex being a leader shake things up?

Krista Vernoff: It’s delightfully different. Justin Chambers just lights this story up. In many ways, he was the least likely candidate for the job — which is why we loved it so much when we landed on it in the room after days of discussing the various possibilities. It feels entirely different than the chiefs we’ve seen before — and Justin wears the suit well.

Yes. As much as we love Chief Bailey, this should be interesting.

Vernoff also teased some other details, like what’s ahead for Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and his newfound sense of life:

    “It’s too fun to spoil.”

Hmmm. Also, we’re already worried even though she refused to answer the question “Will there be a death of a series regular this season?”

“Ha! Nice try! No way I’m answering that.”

We are worried about Richard (James Pickens Jr.) at the moment, and Vernoff warned that he is on “a slippery slope right now.”

  • Ellen Pompeo Hints ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Will End After Season 16

Ellen Pompeo Hints ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Will End After Season 16

    Grey's Anatomy
    ABC

    The End is nigh!

Ellen Pompeo just gave the heaviest hint yet to Entertainment Weekly that “Grey’s Anatomy” might end once her new two-year contract is up after Season 16.

Season 15 premieres next Thursday as The Season of Love. “Grey’s” is on several covers of Entertainment Weekly, with the cast dishing on the new season.

Shonda Rhimes has made it clear there is no “Grey’s” to her without Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey. And Pompeo just said this to EW when asked if she sees herself continuing on “Grey’s” past next year’s Season 16:

“I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell. It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change.”

Oof. Can’t say the show *should* last forever, but still. Oof. The End will hurt.

Just to be clear: They’d better bring back Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) for the finale. Call her agent NOW.

    Grey's Anatomy GIF
    ABC

Back in May, Pompeo had given this hint to Us Weekly:

“There is an end and it’s nearing. I want to be more involved in my kids’ lives as they get older. And they need me more, and this world is such a crazy place.”

    Fair enough.

Shonda Rhimes has moved her Shondaland empire to Netflix, but she told The Hollywood Reporter last year that it will be her decision when to end “Grey’s Anatomy.” The ABC series is still doing very well in ratings, thanks in part to new fans finding the show on Netflix. But that’s also when she told THR that “Grey’s” doesn’t exist to her without Ellen Pompeo.

There was also this ominous exchange:

Have there been any talks about how much longer Ellen is interested in doing the show?

    RHIMES: No comment.

    That was last year.

Shonda Rhimes more recently told EW she’s written the end of the show at least six times, when she thought their time would be up.

“But we just don’t end. Every time I thought, ‘This is how the show should end,’ we’ve gone past those moments, so I’ve stopped trying. I have no idea now.”

It’s possible they’re now busy putting a plan in place for how to close up shop, and maybe it will come after Season 16.

But there are still at least two more seasons ahead! They start with the two-hour Season 15 premiere this coming Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

ABC has released synopses for the first three episodes. The first two will air back-to-back in the two-hour premiere next Thursday, September 27, starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

It sounds like Maggie’s (Kelly McCreary) secret is the truth about Teddy’s (Kim Raver) pregnancy, that it’s Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) baby. As far as her own personal life goes, she’s dating Jackson (Jesse Williams) — and semi-stepmother to baby Harriet, now that April (Sarah Drew) is no longer on the show.

Kelly McCreary (Maggie) told Entertainment Tonight what we can expect from Jaggie, at least toward the start of Season 15:

“They’re new and so it’s still just building right now. We’re a few episodes into shooting and they’re getting to know each other. They’re finding what the quality of the relationship is.”

Several new doctors are joining Grey Sloan this season — as teased in the Episode 2 description — including a new ortho god, and the first gay male surgeon. Do you think Jo’s “unexpected alliance” is with one of them, or someone else?

Watch it all play out when The Season of Love (and other feels) starts Thursday, Sept. 27 on ABC.
