  • Gina Rodriguez Lends Her Golden Globes Dress to Fan for Prom

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsGina Rodriguez just keeps continuing to be Jane the Virgin” star lent her 2015 Golden Globes dress to a fan, and the girl just attended her prom while wearing the gown.

The story began on social media back in January when Jessica Casanova, a high school senior from Buffalo, New York, tweeted at Rodriguez that she would love to wear the actress’s navy Zac Posen gown from the 2016 Globes to her upcoming prom. To Casanova’s shock, Rodriguez replied to her request, and though the actress didn’t have access to the Posen gown anymore, she did still own the black Badgley Mischka that she wore while winning a statuette back in 2015. Rodriguez offered that gown to Casanova instead.

Naturally, Casanova agreed, and after Rodriguez obtained Casanova’s contact information, the actress shipped her the dress. Fast-forward to May 26, when Casanova wore the sleek, stunning frock to her prom. The Buffalo News interviewed Casanova as she got ready for the event, and the 17-year-old admitted that the situation was “crazy.”

“It gives me chills,” Casanova said of wearing Rodriguez’s gown, adding that the dress “fits like a glove.”

According to the News, Rodriguez even sent Casanova a video text message wishing her luck at the prom. The pair continued to exchange messages to each other on Twitter over the past few months, with Casanova pledging to send Rodriguez a painting she made of the actress as a thank you for lending her the dress. And Rodriguez also voiced her approval for how awesome Casanova looked on prom night, responding to the teen’s Twitter photo captioned “We slayed” with an enthusiastic “You certainly did.”

And we certainly agree. Cheers to Rodriguez for being an awesome celebrity, and congrats to Casanova for getting to live out her glamorous Hollywood fantasies.

  • Denzel Washington to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at Golden Globes

Premiere Of Paramount Pictures' "Flight" - ArrivalsDenzel Washington will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at this year’s Golden Globes.

“Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera,” said Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenzo Soria in a statement.

The acclaimed 60-year-old actor has two Golden Globes, as well as two Academy Awards and a Tony, to his name for his performances. He won the best supporting actor trophy for “Glory” in 1989, and the best actor award for “The Hurricane” in 1999. Washington very notably lost out on winning for “Training Day,” for which he went on to get an Oscar.

He’s been lauded for being one of Hollywood’s finest actors, with memorable turns in “Cry Freedom,” “Malcolm X,” and “Philadelphia.”

He is currently filming “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Equalizer 2.”

The prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award most recently went to George Clooney last year.

After all the winners were announced and the 2015 ceremony promptly came to end, the stars left the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, venturing out to the most exclusive after-parties all over L.A.

From winners Eddie Redmayne and Amy Adams to beautiful nominees Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, here are some the best photos from the Hollywood party circuit last night.

  • Golden Globes 2015: The Top 5 Amy and Tina Moments

It was widely reported that this year’s Golden Globes show would be the swan song for amazing co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, news that put us through the five stages of grief pretty quickly (followed by lots of heavy milkshake-drinking). The duo have hosted the glittery awards show for the past three years, exposing the inherently sexist, silly nature of Hollywood but doing with such good-natured aplomb that it never came across as acid or mean-spirited (like the infamous previous host Ricky Gervais).

What was kind of upsetting about last night, though, was how little Tina and Amy were actually given to do. It felt like last night the dynamic duo had the least amount of screen time out of any of their gigs. After a terrific monologue (more on that in a minute), they were largely sidelined, interjecting where they could but mostly silent (or hidden backstage somewhere or in the maze of underground tunnels I’m fairly sure exists underneath the Beverly Hilton). Still — when they were on stage, they were genuinely incredible. And if this really is their final job hosting, they went out on top. Obviously.

    1. The Monologue
A lot has already been written about their razor-sharp monologue (you can watch it below), but it needs to be reiterated that it was really, really, ridiculously funny. They took aim at the ridiculousness of the evening and its participants (Tina: “You bunch of despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats”), the brouhaha surrounding the release of “The Interview” (“All the movies North Korea was okay with”), the current nominees (“We Anderson arrived on a bicycle made of antique tuba parts”) and, most damningly, Bill Cosby. (What? You thought two outspoken, brilliant feminist comedians wouldn’t joke about the defamed comedy legend, currently staring down more than two dozen sexual assault allegations?) Maybe the most delightful element of their monologue was when they went around the room talking about who they’d rather or not sleep with. Our favorite bit? Weighing who would be better in the sack — “Boyhood” director Richard Linklater (“Once a year for five minutes”) or “Birdman” filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“Two hours, one take”). All in all: they killed it. Now what can we do to bring them back for year 4?

    2. Introducing Margaret Cho
Fairly early in the show, Tina and Amy decided to introduce the newest member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — Cho Yun Ja, a North Korean contributor to Movies Wow played by none other than cult comedienne Margaret Cho. She was totally in character, straight-faced and wearing nearly kabuki-style make-up, gripping an issue of her magazine (“Kim: Break the Internet”), taking a selfie photo with Meryl Streep that was photographed by Michael Keaton and photo-bombed by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch. It was pretty great, orchestrated with gleeful anarchy by Fey and Poehler.

    3. Cho Yun Ja Returns
Thankfully, Margaret Cho’s introduction was not her last appearance — she would pop up periodically throughout the night, even saying the final words of the telecast. But it was her first appearance back after her introduction that was the funniest. Particularly for her final zinger: “Also I think ‘Orange is the New Black’ should be in the drama category. It’s funny but not ha-ha funny.” And then everyone was hacked again.

    4. Tina’s Awesome Glittery Tux
We just have to take a moment and give it up for Tina’s awesome glittery tux, which she wore during the middle section of the show. This might be the only glittery tux to be more awesome than David Oyelowo‘s glittery tux (undoubtedly part of the Daft Punk evening wear collection). Fey’s outfit had her bow tie all askew and was just looking really, really cool. It was a wonderfully gender-defiant piece of fashion that was also elegant and smart and witty.

    5. The Matthew McConaughey Joke
Amy’s Matthew McConaughey joke was brief but totally amazing. “When your producers tell you you’re running long, there’s only one thing to do… here’s Matthew McConaughey.” Alright alright alright alright, this was a pretty great joy. Yes it was, yes it was. (By the way, how stoked was McConaughey when his best bud Richard Linklater took home the big prizes last night?) And yes, this was better than the Oprah intro. By a fairly considerable margin.

  • Golden Globes 2015: The 15 Best and Worst Moments

    %Slideshow-258898%
Was there a certain zip and verve missing from the Golden Globes this year?

Maybe it was the relative lack of surprises among the winners selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, or maybe it was just hard to find the right light and humorous tone to celebrate the achievements of the rich and pampered at a time when even Hollywood folk are concerned about terror threats from North Korea and France. Still, there was a lot of heartfelt emotion among the winners and a lot of sharp barbs from hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Even long after viewers forget who won and lost — which they probably will about two weeks from now — they may remember these moments from Sunday’s 72nd annual Globes ceremony.72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Show

  • Golden Globes 2015: The 12 Things You’re Most Likely to See at This Year’s Ceremony

Golden Globe StatuettesA month from now, are you even going to remember who won the Golden Globes? And should you? After all, it’s not like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the little group of entertainment journalists who give out the prizes, have loads of credibility, either as Oscar and Emmy prognosticators or as discerning film and TV critics.

But they do put on a heck of an awards show. This year’s gala, the HFPA’s 72nd, boasts a pair of popular and funny emcees, a glamorous gathering of TV and movie stars, a tribute to a certain Hollywood royal, and the possibility that the event’s free-flowing alcohol and relaxed vibes will lead to something spontaneous and memorable happening. Oh yeah, and Sunday’s proceedings will also offer a small hint at what could win at the Oscars in February. Here, then, are some things likely to catch your eye at the 2015 Golden Globes ceremony.

The Tina and Amy Show. This is the third and, alas, apparently the last year that Ms. Fey and Ms. Poehler will co-host the ceremony. Expect them to go out with a bang, sparing few with their sweetly-delivered barbs, since they don’t have to worry about being invited back.

More of the same from Ricky Gervais. After all, the HFPA is letting previous three-time host Gervais come back as a presenter, despite his well-established tendency to insult the powerful and hijack the show for his own purposes. You at home will be laughing, even if those in the Beverly Hilton ballroom do not.

A-listers reading cue cards. Along with Gervais, plenty of top-ranking entertainers will be happy to serve as presenters at the Globes, where no one will be writing awkward jokes into their remarks like at the Oscars. Those who’ve agreed to appear so far include Amy Adams, Adrien Brody, Robert Downey Jr., Anna Faris, Kevin Hart, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, Lily Tomlin, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Frasier’s daughter. Miss Golden Globes, the gowned gal who hands out the trophies and escorts the winners offstage, is almost always a celebrity’s daughter. This year, it’s 22-year-old Greer Grammer, star of “Awkward” and daughter of Kelsey. Keep an eye on her; after all, past Miss GGs have included Melanie Griffith and Laura Dern.

A coronation for George Clooney. After all, like Jack Nicholson or Clark Gable before him, Clooney is pretty much acknowledged by one and all to be the king of Hollywood. So why not make it official? On Sunday, he’ll pick up the Cecil B. DeMille award, the HFPA’s lifetime achievement prize. Isn’t the 53-year-old a little young for that? After all, just 20 years ago, before the 1994 debut of “ER,” hardly anyone knew who he was. (Though we shouldn’t discount his earlier career, a decade spent doing things like guest roles on “The Golden Girls” and starring in horror spoof “Return of the Killer Tomatoes!”) Still, he’s a big deal now. And a good sport, judging by the way he canoodled with Poehler during a comedy bit at a previous Globes ceremony. Over the years, the HFPA has nominated him in nine different categories; the organization’s official press release about the DeMille award observes, “At this point, he could only top this if he were to write a song or have a sex change.” Let’s hope not.

Newcomers among the TV winners. The Globe voters like to get out in front of the Emmys when it comes to being the first to recognize new shows. So look for Gina Rodriguez to take home a trophy for “Jane the Virgin” and Viola Davis (who’s a newcomer to primetime, at least) to grab one for “How to Get Away With Murder.”

Newcomers among the movie winners — sort of. Director Richard Linklater has gone Globe-less throughout his quarter-century career, but that’s likely to end with the hosannas over “Boyhood.” Watch for that film’s supporting actress nominee, Patricia Arquette, to pick up her first Globe, too. Of course, “Boyhood”‘s big rival, “Birdman,” could also grab a few prizes, including a Best Actor award for the previously Globe-deprived Michael Keaton.

Jokes about “The Interview.” Nobody came off looking noble in that fiasco, so there’ll be plenty of wisecracks to go around.

Food envy. Potential Globe honorees had better remember to bring some dental floss; you don’t want to go up on stage and on camera with black Tuscan kale from the awards banquet’s second course stuck in your teeth. This year, you can watch as Globe guests nibble on a three-course meal consisting of a modified Waldorf salad with a lemon emulsion dressing, a surf-and-turf course of filet mignon and Arctic char (served with a potato croquette, a fondue of heirloom cherries and tomatoes, and the aforementioned kale), and a triple dessert course of cassis lemon cheesecake, chocolate alliance salted caramel, and hazelnut dacquoise. You know, in case you wanted to duplicate the menu at home.

A moment of silence. Many greats from the worlds of both TV and film passed away last year, probably too many for the show to do justice to them all in the annual “In Memoriam” montage. Hold your applause ’til the end, folks.

Plugs for “Parks and Recreation.” You think NBC is going to miss a chance to promote the final season of Poehler’s cult-fave sitcom? C’mon, people, it’s your last chance to discover this show.

Drunken revelry. There’s never as much of it as we at home would want to see. Still, hope springs eternal that the Globes’ keep-refilling-those-goblets policy will pay off in an on-camera slap fight or wardrobe malfunction. Heck, we’d settle for a loud belch.
