‘Haunting of Hill House’ Star Mckenna Grace Lands the Lead in New ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie

Netflix Mckenna Grace, who played young Theo on “The Haunting of Hill House,” has just been cast as the lead in Jason Reitman’s “Ghostbusters” sequel.
She joins already-cast Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”), who’ll play her brother, and Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers”) as their single mother.
The story, which is a sequel to Ivan Reitman’s original ’80s movies, is about four teens and their families who (what else?) encounter ghosts.
At only age 12, Grace has already racked up an impressive resumé: She’s currently onscreen (briefly) as young Carol Danvers in “Captain Marvel.” She also starred in “Gifted” with Chris Evans and played young Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya.”
And she plays young Sabrina on Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Her other TV credits include “Designated Survivor” “Fuller House.”
She also stars in the upcoming “Annabelle Comes Home ,” the latest film in “The Conjuring” franchise.
In other words, she’s a busy, busy girl.

‘Stranger Things’ Star Finn Wolfhard In Talks for ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie

Netflix Remember when the “Stranger Things “kids dressed up like “Ghostbusters” in a Halloween episode?
Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike on the ’80s-set sci-fi show, is in talks to star in the upcoming “Ghostbusters” movie directed by Jason Reitman.
The studio would not comment on plot details, but sources told Variety that the story will focus on a single mom and her family, with Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers,” “The Sinner”) playing Wolfhard’s mom. Whether they become Ghostbusters themselves remains to be seen.
Since the sequel to is being billed as a continuation of the first two ’80s films (and not the femme-centric Paul Feig film), a woman Ghostbuster seems unlikely.
Supposedly, Reitman was reluctant to use anyone from the “Stranger Things” cast (given they’ve already done “Ghostbusters,”) but both he and the executives were “blown away” by Wolfhard’s audition.
Wolfhard recently wrapped Season 3 of “Stranger Things,” which will debut on Netflix in July. He’ll also be in “It: Chapter 2” this fall, as well as “The Goldfinch” and “The Turning.”

USA Network Coon played the leader of a cult who was also the overprotective mother of a boy accused of a double murder in the second season of “The Sinner.”
Her movie credits include “Gone Girl,” “Widows” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Jason Reitman Walks Back ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel Comment That He’ll ‘Hand the Movie Back to the Fans’

Sony Jason Reitman has nothing but love for all the “Ghostbusters.”
The director, who is working on “Ghostbusters 3,” a follow-up to the 1984 film and its sequel, has clarified comments he made that were interpreted as a dig against the 2016 all-female reboot.
On “Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast,” Reitman said, “We are in every way trying to go back to original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”
For many, that implied that “Ghostbusters” had been “taken away” from fans — by the very existence of the 2016 film, which was the target of sexist trolls at the time of its release. And his comment started a debate about what a “true ‘Ghostbusters’ fan” really is.
But Reitman swears he didn’t mean it that way:
Wo, that came out wrong! I have nothing but admiration for Paul and Leslie and Kate and Melissa and Kristen and the bravery with which they made Ghostbusters 2016. They expanded the universe and made an amazing movie!
— Jason Reitman (@JasonReitman) February 21, 2019
Reitman seems to be trying to say that he’s incorporating many visual and musical nods toward the 1984 original in his movie.
“We went back to the work files for the sound of the proton pack. And we went back to the stems of Elmer Berstein’s score,” he explained in the podcast.
“Just for where it says, in the teaser, ‘Summer 2020,’ we went back and found the original physical vinyl letters they used to create the Ghostbusters poster in 1984, rescanned them. Then our title guys reprinted them. We filmed the titles, not like in a computer. We shot physical titles with a light and smoke effect because that’s how they would have done it back in the day.”
Reitman does have a significant supporter in Paul Feig, who directed the 2016 reboot.
Jason was a supporter of mine at a time when I couldn’t get movies made. He has always been a true gentleman to me and a supporter of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. I can’t wait to see his take on the Ghostbusters universe. Big love and respect to you, Jason. Your fan, Paul https://t.co/2I9sqmrgTl

Leslie Jones Slams Jason Reitman’s ‘Insulting’ ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel

Sony While many “Ghostbusters” fans have been celebrating the news of an upcoming third film in the original series, one star of the recent reboot isn’t happy.
Leslie Jones took to Twitter over the weekend to voice her disapproval of Jason Reitman‘s sequel, which will be a direct follow-up to his father Ivan Reitman’s 1984 and 1989 flicks. The Sony film will be entirely separate from Jones’s 2016 feature, and will not reference any of its characters or events.
So insulting. Like fuck us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!
— Leslie Jones 🦋 (@Lesdoggg) January 19, 2019
According to Jones, the move is dismissive and “so insulting,” essentially saying “f*ck us” to herself and the rest of the cast, including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon. The actress also referenced the hate her film received because of its all-female ensemble, noting sarcastically that this new movie would be “better with men” because, after all, “those women ain’t [Ghostbusters].”
While Jones’s comments are a bit over-the-top, she’s not entirely wrong that Sony’s decision is kind of “a d*ck move.” After all, critics and fans generally enjoyed the 2016 film, which received mostly positive reviews despite some intense backlash from trolls who declared it a childhood-ruining abomination (and took much of their frustration out on Jones, who received such incessant racist abuse that she briefly quit Twitter).
But director Paul Feig‘s flick didn’t do big numbers at the box office, and Sony declined to move forward on a sequel as a result. The studio was eager to keep the “Ghostbusters” name alive, though, and continued to work on other projects centered around the property, ultimately leading Reitman to develop his new film.
It’s unclear what the director’s feature will focus on, though the film’s first teaser suggests it will be a passing of the torch to a new generation of paranormal investigators. No word yet on whether or not original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, or Ernie Hudson will appear. (Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.)
We’re guessing at this point, Jones won’t be willing to make a cameo. Here’s hoping Sony reaches out to the 2016 cast anyway, though, as a gesture of goodwill.

A ‘Ghostbusters 3’ Teaser Trailer Is Already Here to Slime Your Mind

Sony That was fast. Last night’s news that a “Ghostbusters 3” was in the works with director Jason Reitman is followed by the first teaser trailer (yes, already!).
The teaser has absolutely no footage from the upcoming movie, but provide a few hints about what to expect.
“Ghostbusters 3” is a direct follow-up to the 1984 original and 1989 sequel (both of which were directed by Jason’s father, Ivan Reitman). The teaser shows a remote barn housing the old Ecto-1 underneath a tarp, suggesting that the original crew (played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis) are long retired. But judging by the sparks in the barn, it looks like someone is tinkering around with a proton pack.

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot,” Reitman explained. “What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
He added, “We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”
Will Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson will be involved somehow? Perhaps Sigourney Weaver, too? Or could it be a next generation kind of thing involving their kids? Only time will tell.

Jason Reitman Is Directing the Next ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie

Paramount Jason Reitman — whose dad, Ivan Reitman, directed the first two “Ghostbusters” films — is taking over the franchise, EW reports.
It will be “set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie.”
So… does that mean that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be back? That’s not addressed, but we do know that it will be set in the present day. And make no reference to the 2016 reboot.
“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day,” says Jason Reitman. “I have so much respect for what Paul [Feig] created with those brilliant actresses [in the 2016 film], and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”
When he was six, by the way, he was an extra in the 1984 original. And the kid who tells the now down-and-out Ghostbusters in the 1989 sequel, “My dad says you guys are full of crap.”
Sony Pictures has scheduled the film for Summer 2020, with plans to start shooting in a few months.
Father Ivan is producing the movie. “It will be a passing of the torch both inside and out,” he told EW. “[Jason] worked really hard to be independent and developed a wonderful career on his own. So I was quite surprised when he came to me with [cowriter Gil Kenan] and said, ‘I know I’ve been saying for 10 years I’m the last person who should make a ‘Ghostbusters’ movie, but…I have this idea.’ Literally, I was crying by the end of it, it was so emotional and funny.”
The film has reportedly been developed under the fake title “Rust City” to stay under the radar.
It’ll be the first major studio film for Jason Reitman, whose films include “Up in the Air,” “Tully,” and “The Front Runner.”
But hey, he’s got his dad’s blessing. How does Slimer feel about it?

The VOID’s Ghostbusters Dimension Experience Is a Dream Come True for Fans

The VOID/Sony There isn’t exactly a shortage of immersive experiences this Halloween, each one promising to terrify, overwhelm, and entertain you in unique and unexpected ways.
But while many of these experiences adhere to the typical model of a haunted house (or haunted house-like) walk-through or escape room, one company is using technology to push beyond the boundaries of what can physically be created, and into new, positively mind-blowing dimensions. And what’s more — it utilizes some beloved IP, but gives it a wholly unique spin. It’s called the Ghostbusters Dimension and you can experience it at The VOID, nationwide. Talk about a spooky Halloween treat.
So, to break it down, Ghostbusters Dimension is a wholly immersive VR experience. After you sign your waiver, you go into a holding room that looks a lot like the opening scenes of “Edge of Tomorrow,” with large backpacks hanging from the ceiling alongside a helmet with goggles and what you’ll soon find out is a “wireless” ghost-zapping gun. After you’re geared up, you enter a room and are given an explanation by none other than Dan Aykroyd that, while you are now technically a Ghostbuster, your first mission is to go get him coffee. (This preamble was clearly recorded at Aykroyd’s Ghost Corps office on the Sony lot, and it’s pretty unclear whether he’s supposed to be Dan Aykroyd or his “Ghostbusters” character, Ray Stantz.)
Anyway, he gives you some background information on an incredibly haunted building nearby, although why you would need this information on a routine coffee run is beyond me.

The VOID/Sony Needless to say, you exit the pre-show area and are immediately enveloped in the world of “Ghostbusters.” You fire energy blasts at floating ghouls, at one point are asked to “cross the streams” (yes!) and encounter a very familiar ghost during the experience’s climax that honestly blew my mind. Throughout the experience, you are immersed — you see your teammates as they struggle with their own supernatural beasts, feel the jolting vibration of a spirit passing through you, and watch as your world changes. (You can even smell certain things, although to talk about what, exactly, would ruin some of the fun and surprise.)
If you’ve experienced the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire experience at The VOID, which debuted at Walt Disney World in 2017 and at other locations this year, then you should probably know that this “Ghostbusters” experience was developed before that one. It could arguably be said that they learned a lot from the Ghostbusters development and put that into the “Star Wars” variant, particularly when it comes to story and how to stretch out certain moments beyond merely pointing and shooting. (It definitely felt shorter and more prototypical than Secrets of the Empire.)
Also, you can tell that it hangs, precipitously, between two “Ghostbusters” eras, since the classic films are referenced alongside the 2016 remake. (The uniforms and Proton Packs glimpsed during the experience are those from the 2016 film.) Obviously, what’s going on with the franchise right now is anybody’s guess, but the high profile, interconnected plans for movies and TV shows seem to have fallen by the ectoplasm-splattered wayside.
Not that any of this gets in the way of the pure, unadulterated fun of the experience. For many of us, “Ghostbusters” was an essential part of growing up and part of that was pretending to be a Ghostbuster. I had a friend who had all of the accessories — the plastic proton pack and the little trap that you could open by stepping on a small gauge that would pop it open, ready to contain your imaginary poltergeist.
And while the franchise has taken on many permutations, some of them more experiential than others (like the pretty-cool live stage show from the early days of Universal Studios Orlando), none have been able to put you in the ghoul-hunting mode of an actual Ghostbuster. All of that has changed with this VOID experience.
The VOID makes you genuinely feel like you are one of the team, as you look around a Manhattan apartment building being terrorized by floating specters, see a hellish portal open up above a posh sky rise, and take aim against one of the most iconic movie foes of all time. Also, you get slimed by Slimer. How cool is that?
If you haven’t experienced The VOID yet, well, you should. Slowly this year, the technology has been expanding (we powered up our proton packs at the Glendale Galleria in California). Soon, it will be close enough to you where you’ll have no excuses. This is very much the future of themed entertainment, and one of the most fun experiences you can have this Halloween.
So strap on those proton packs and get to work.

Watch ‘Supernatural’ Stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles Go ‘Ghostbusters’ in Parody Video

The Hillywood Show/YouTube The break between “Supernatural” seasons just got more bearable: “The Hillywood Show” got stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to appear in a video as their respective characters, Dean and Sam Winchester.
Called “Supernatural 2 Parody,” the hilarious video spoofs the long-running CW fantasy series by giving it some “Ghostbusters” flair. It follows the Winchester brothers (played by creator Hilly Hindi and and Osric Chau) as they go about their supernatural business, all while a revamped version of the “Ghostbusters” theme song plays. The lyrics were written by sisters Hilly and Hannah Hindi, who spoof the show to perfection.
The video and its song are plenty catchy on their own, but best of all, fans get to see some special appearances. As mentioned above, Ackles and Padalecki pop in, and they are also joined by their co-star Misha Collins (Castiel). Watch the parody below.
Who ya gonna call? WINCHESTERS!
“Supernatural” returns for Season 14 on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
