  • ‘Ghostbusters 2020’ Ecto-1 Car Spotted Filming in Canada

‘Ghostbusters 2020’ Ecto-1 Car Spotted Filming in Canada

    Sony

There’s something strange in this Canadian neighborhood — and Ecto-1 has been dispatched to do something about it.

TMZ has pictures of the iconic car on the streets of Alberta to film scenes from the upcoming “Ghostbusters 2020”

The new film is a direct follow-up to the 1984 original and its sequel. It comes from director Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan Reitman directed the first movie.

Reitman has said he plans to incorporate many visual and musical nods to those predecessors, including the old Ecto-1.

Not much is known about the plot of “Ghostbusters 2020,” except that it focuses on a single mom (Carrie Coon) and her son (“Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard). “Captain Marvel” actress Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd also star, and Sigourney Weaver is returning as Dana Barrett.

TMZ reports that “Ghostbusters 2020” has been shooting scenes in the small town of Crossfield, at a local school and a Chinese restaurant.

“Ghostbusters 2020” is slated to open in theaters July 10, 2020.

    Sony Pictures

Director Jason Reitman shared a close-up of the “Ghostbusters” mobile today on Instagram and it looks like ECTO-1 needs some serious TLC.

Ghostbusters 3” hasn’t started production yet, but we’ve already gotten a teaser trailer that showed the old car sitting in a barn in the middle of nowhere on a windy night.

We get it, the old vehicle (and returning original cast members) are a bit rusty and are going to need some help getting back on their feet. Which is where the young new cast members, including Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard come in, presumably.

The onetime ambulance was already in terrible shape when Ray (Dan Aykroyd) bought it in the very first “Ghostbusters” film. Assuming it’s the same car, it’s going to need a major overhaul. As you recall, in 1989’s “Ghostbusters 2,” ECTO-1 ended up in the East River.

“Ghostbusters 3” is scheduled to open July 10, 2020.

  • 11 Things You Never Knew About ‘Ghostbusters II’ on its 30th Anniversary

11 Things You Never Knew About ‘Ghostbusters II’ on its 30th Anniversary

    Columbia Pictures

It’s been 30 years since “Ghostbusters II” got the gang back together. It may not have entirely satisfied fans of the 1984 original, but bustin’ always makes us feel good. Celebrate this big movie milestone by learning more about the making of “Ghostbusters II.”

    1. Several changes were made to the sequel in order to reflect the popularity of the animated series “The Real Ghostbusters.” That included bringing back Slimer as comic relief, avoiding any scenes of the Ghostbusters smoking and changing Janine’s appearance to more closely resemble her animated counterpart.

    Sony Pictures Television

    2. Ben Stein has a small cameo in the film, but he almost had a much bigger role. Stein was considered as a possible replacement for Bill Murray after Murray showed a reluctance to participate in the sequel.

    3. The original screenplay contains several scenes not included in the actual film, including a sequence where Ray is possessed by Vigo while driving the Ecto-1 and attempts to kill the other Ghostbusters.

    Columbia Pictures

    4. The film also has a deleted subplot in which Rick Moranis‘ Louis lays various traps for Slimer, hoping to prove his mettle as a Ghostbuster.

    5. Vigo actor Wilhelm Von Homburg didn’t know his lines would be dubbed over by Max von Sydow, and he stormed out of the premiere after discovering the change.

    Columbia Pictures

    6. Vigo isn’t based on a specific historical figure, but his appearance and back-story were strongly influenced by Vlad Dracula and Grigori Rasputin.

    7. The twin babies cast as Oscar are the nephews of singer John Denver.

    Columbia Pictures

    8. “Ghostbusters II” set a new record for highest opening weekend box office gross when it hit theaters. Unfortunately, that record was broken again the following weekend by “Batman.”

    9. The movie was the source of a minor controversy thanks to a tie-in “Ghostblaster” toy released at Hardee’s fast food restaurants. 2 million units were recalled after the toy was deemed a choking hazard.

    Columbia Pictures

    10. Two of director Ivan Reitman‘s children have cameos in the film. Catherine Reitman plays the girl with the puppy in Egon’s lab, while Jason Reitman plays the child who exclaims, “Ghostbusters are full of crap!”

    11. Ironically, Jason Reitman has now been tapped to direct the long-awaited “Ghostbusters 3“, due for release in 2020.

  • Sigourney Weaver Confirms She’ll Be In ‘Ghostbusters 3’

Sigourney Weaver Confirms She’ll Be In ‘Ghostbusters 3’

    Columbia Pictures

Sigourney Weaver revealed that she will be reuniting with original Ghostbusters Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in the sequel due out next year

“It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” she told Parade magazine. She wouldn’t reveal any details except to confirm she’s reprising her role as  Dana Barrett.

Jason Reitman, son of original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman, is directing the film, which is a follow-up to the two ’80s movies (And apparently does not acknowledge the all-female 2016 spin-off at all.)

Already announced for the cast: “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon as his mother and “The Haunting of Hell House”‘s Mckenna Grace.

Weaver also said she’s about to start filming on the long-delayed “Avatar” sequels. Since her character was killed off, she’ll be playing a new, as yet unknown character.

Even when they killed her off in “Alien,” they found a way to bring her back. Anything is possible in sci-film films, after all.

  • Dan Aykroyd Says He’s Written a ‘Ghostbusters’ Prequel

    Columbia Pictures

Earlier this year, film fans were surprised to learn that another “Ghostbusters” movie is in the works, with Jason Reitman — son of original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman — helming a sequel set for release in 2020. And now, one of the 1984 and 1989 movies’ stars has shared plans for an ambitious slate of additional “Ghostbusters” projects, which he says could be hitting screens both big and small within the next few years.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Dan Aykroyd — who played Dr. Ray Stantz in the first two films, which he co-wrote with Harold Ramis (who played Dr. Egon Spengler) — discussed the new sequel, as well as his grand vision for the future of the franchise. That includes a ’60s-set prequel film — and potential TV series — following the adventures of a teenage Ray, Egon, and Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), which Aykroyd says already has a finished script, which he’s given to Reitman to direct.

Here’s how the actor described the project:

… I’ve written “Ghostbusters High,” where they meet in New Jersey in 1969 and we’re looking to do that as probably a glorified feature or pilot within the next maybe five years…. And it would lead to a television project and I thought of [Reitman] immediately for that.

But Aykroyd added that that idea was “years away from the current project,” which has his and Reitman’s full attention right now. But down the line, the actor envisioned several other follow-ups to Reitman’s new film, which will then be followed by the prequel, which Aykroyd described as “a perfect button on all we’ve done up to that point.”

This isn’t the first time the onetime Ray Stantz has shared grand plans for the ‘busters, only to have them fizzle over time. It took decades to even make the 2016 reboot, after all. But fans seem especially excited about Reitman’s new take on the property, and if it proves popular enough, it could indeed open the door for everything Aykroyd envisions.

In the meantime, expect the new “Ghostbusters” to hit theaters on July 10, 2020.

  • Jason Reitman Walks Back ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel Comment That He’ll ‘Hand the Movie Back to the Fans’

Jason Reitman Walks Back ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel Comment That He’ll ‘Hand the Movie Back to the Fans’

    Sony

Jason Reitman has nothing but love for all the “Ghostbusters.”

The director, who is working on “Ghostbusters 3,” a follow-up to the 1984 film and its sequel, has clarified comments he made that were interpreted as a dig against the 2016 all-female reboot.

On “Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast,” Reitman said, “We are in every way trying to go back to original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”

For many, that implied that “Ghostbusters” had been “taken away” from fans — by the very existence of the 2016 film, which was the target of sexist trolls at the time of its release. And his comment started a debate about what a “true ‘Ghostbusters’ fan” really is.

But Reitman swears he didn’t mean it that way:

Reitman seems to be trying to say that he’s incorporating many visual and musical nods toward the 1984 original in his movie.

“We went back to the work files for the sound of the proton pack. And we went back to the stems of Elmer Berstein’s score,” he explained in the podcast.

“Just for where it says, in the teaser, ‘Summer 2020,’ we went back and found the original physical vinyl letters they used to create the Ghostbusters poster in 1984, rescanned them. Then our title guys reprinted them. We filmed the titles, not like in a computer. We shot physical titles with a light and smoke effect because that’s how they would have done it back in the day.”

Reitman does have a significant supporter in Paul Feig, who directed the 2016 reboot.

  • Leslie Jones Slams Jason Reitman’s ‘Insulting’ ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel

Leslie Jones Slams Jason Reitman’s ‘Insulting’ ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel

    Sony

While many “Ghostbusters” fans have been celebrating the news of an upcoming third film in the original series, one star of the recent reboot isn’t happy.

Leslie Jones took to Twitter over the weekend to voice her disapproval of Jason Reitman‘s sequel, which will be a direct follow-up to his father Ivan Reitman’s 1984 and 1989 flicks. The Sony film will be entirely separate from Jones’s 2016 feature, and will not reference any of its characters or events.

According to Jones, the move is dismissive and “so insulting,” essentially saying “f*ck us” to herself and the rest of the cast, including Melissa McCarthyKristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon. The actress also referenced the hate her film received because of its all-female ensemble, noting sarcastically that this new movie would be “better with men” because, after all, “those women ain’t [Ghostbusters].”

While Jones’s comments are a bit over-the-top, she’s not entirely wrong that Sony’s decision is kind of “a d*ck move.” After all, critics and fans generally enjoyed the 2016 film, which received mostly positive reviews despite some intense backlash from trolls who declared it a childhood-ruining abomination (and took much of their frustration out on Jones, who received such incessant racist abuse that she briefly quit Twitter).

But director Paul Feig‘s flick didn’t do big numbers at the box office, and Sony declined to move forward on a sequel as a result. The studio was eager to keep the “Ghostbusters” name alive, though, and continued to work on other projects centered around the property, ultimately leading Reitman to develop his new film.

It’s unclear what the director’s feature will focus on, though the film’s first teaser suggests it will be a passing of the torch to a new generation of paranormal investigators. No word yet on whether or not original stars Bill MurrayDan Aykroyd, or Ernie Hudson will appear. (Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.)

We’re guessing at this point, Jones won’t be willing to make a cameo. Here’s hoping Sony reaches out to the 2016 cast anyway, though, as a gesture of goodwill.

  • A ‘Ghostbusters 3’ Teaser Trailer Is Already Here to Slime Your Mind

A ‘Ghostbusters 3’ Teaser Trailer Is Already Here to Slime Your Mind

    Sony

That was fast. Last night’s news that a “Ghostbusters 3” was in the works with director Jason Reitman is followed by the first teaser trailer (yes, already!).

The teaser has absolutely no footage from the upcoming movie, but provide a few hints about what to expect.

“Ghostbusters 3” is a direct follow-up to the 1984 original and 1989 sequel (both of which were directed by Jason’s father, Ivan Reitman). The teaser shows a remote barn housing the old Ecto-1 underneath a tarp, suggesting that the original crew (played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis) are long retired. But judging by the sparks in the barn,  it looks like someone is tinkering around with a proton pack.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV2XKE6G9yI&feature=youtu.be

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot,” Reitman explained. “What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

He added, “We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”

Will Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson will be involved somehow? Perhaps Sigourney Weaver, too? Or could it be a next generation kind of thing involving their kids? Only time will tell.
