Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges is ready to try something new: starring in a TV series. The veteran actor is taking on a lead role in the drama “The Old Man,” which has gotten a straight-to-series order from FX, THR reports.

“The Old Man” is based on Thomas Perry’s 2017 novel of the same name, and it follows Dan Chase (Bridges), an ex-CIA operative who lives off the grid. He has to face his past, however, when an assassin shows up and tries to take him out. The series comes from co-creators Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, who previously teamed up on Starz’s “Black Sails.”

Although Bridges has appeared on various TV series, this will be by far his largest role. He has primarily been a film star, racking up multiple Oscar nominations over the years and winning for his performance in 2009’s “Crazy Heart.” He also had a memorable turn as The Dude in the 1998 cult favorite “The Big Lebowski.” Needless to say, FX is thrilled to have Bridges on board.

“Jeff Bridges is an iconic, extraordinary actor and to have him as the star of this series is an incredible moment for FX,” said the network’s president of originals, Nick Grad. “Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have delivered an amazing pilot script and Jeff is perfect for the role of Dan Chase.”

Steinberg and Levine are set to executive produce the drama alongside Bridges, Warren Littlefield, Jeff Shotz, and David Schiff. It comes from Fox 21 Television Studios in association with The Littlefield Company.

Production on the pilot will kick off this fall.

It’s almost that time of year again — “American Horror Story” is coming back.

FX Networks announced the fall 2019 premiere dates of multiple shows, including “AHS: 1984.” The latest installment in the Ryan Murphy-created anthology series is set to debut on Sept. 18. This will be the show’s ninth season.

So far, a lot remains under wraps regarding “1984,” but the year in the title is, of course, significant. The latest season draws inspiration from 1980s slasher films, as the first teaser showed. As for the cast, Murphy has only confirmed the return of Emma Roberts. Additionally, he announced in February that Olympian Gus Kenworthy will play her character’s boyfriend. Meanwhile, “AHS” vet Evan Peters shared in April that he’s taking a season off from the show.

Fall on FX Networks will also bring “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Season 14 and the sophomore seasons of both “Mayans MC” and “Mr. Inbetween.” The first to return will be “Mayans MC” on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. “Mr. Inbetween” will then arrive on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 10 p.m, followed by “AHS: 1984” on Wednesday, Sept 18 at 10p.m., also on FX. Finally, “It’s Always Sunny” will arrive on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m on FXX.

FX’s biographical miniseries “Fosse/Verdon” premieres in April, and in the meantime, the official trailer has been unveiled.

The preview shows Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell as Broadway legends Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse, respectively. It follows them from their early days of working together through five decades in the entertainment industry. Along the way, their personal and professional lives go through extreme highs and lows. The trailer shows both the beginnings of their relationship and their separation years later.

FX promises “show-stopping choreography,” and we get glimpses of it, too. Both Rockwell and Williams put on their dancing shoes for the role. Watch below.

The cast of the miniseries also includes Norbert Leo Butz, Aya Cash, Nate Corddry, Evan Handler, and Margaret Qualley.

The limited series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, and its executive producers include Williams, Rockwell, Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Fields, and George Stelzner. Fosse and Verdon’s daughter, Nicole Fosse, serves as a creative consultant and co-executive producer. Meanwhile, Andy Blankenbuehler co-produces and serves as choreographer with Susan Misner, and Erica Key is also a producer.

“Fosse/Verdon” premieres April 9 on FX. The miniseries consists of eight episodes.

Alas, “Atlanta” Season 3 isn’t coming back as soon as fans might have hoped.

When FX announced the show’s renewal in June, the network made no promises about a 2019 return. Now, we see that was a smart call. During a TCA event on Monday, FX CEO John Landgraf confirmed that the series isn’t moving forward as quickly as planned.

Scheduling has been a challenge, as many suspected it would be given that Donald Glover is the show’s creator as well as one of its stars, writers, and directors. He is “sort of the king of all media,” Landgraf said, and Glover has had a lot to balance, and not just work.

“He’s had personal things he’s had to deal with, from injuries to other things I’d rather not say publicly that just have to do not with his personal life but his extended family,” Landgraf said.

While the multi-hyphenate may be the most essential piece of the puzzle, he’s not the only one. Co-stars Brian Tyree Henry (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), Lakeith Stanfield (“The Girl in the Spider’s Web”), and Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”) are also in high demand. They’ll all have to coordinate their schedules somehow.

The good news is that “Atlanta” Season 3 is still moving forward. Landgraf noted that the writers are “back working right now.” While the CEO wishes the show could “get everything back on an annual basis,” he explained that they’re “erring on the side of quality” rather than quantity. We’ll get the third season eventually — we’ll just have to be patient.

Get ready for chaos and chills.

With just a week to go until the “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” premiere, FX Networks has released another look at the series. This time, it’s a full trailer for Season 8 — one full of chaos, familiar faces, and new rules.

Like the teaser released just the day prior, the latest preview highlights the crossover between previous installments in the AHS anthology series — Season 1’s “Murder House” and Season 3’s “Coven.” The rubber man makes a creepy appearance, a snake slithers around, and old characters return. Still, there are fresh aspects, too, including new rules for this disturbing time.

“It’s our world now,” the video description teases.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, there is a lot to be explained but it is clearly going to be another wild ride, full of scares. Watch the trailer below.

  • ‘Mayans MC’ to Intersect With ‘Sons of Anarchy’ But ‘Keep It Sacred,’ Says Kurt Sutter

‘Mayans MC’ to Intersect With ‘Sons of Anarchy’ But ‘Keep It Sacred,’ Says Kurt Sutter

    Sons of Anarchy Season 7
    FX Networks

“Sons of Anarchy” is over, but some of its characters are apparently poised for a new lease on life in the near future.

The show’s spinoff, “Mayans MC,” is set to premiere this fall, and Kurt Sutter delivered some news fans have been waiting for during San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. The co-creator, who teamed up with Elgin James on the series, confirmed at the event that they have plans for certain stories to intersect, Deadline reports. While there aren’t any “points of intersection” yet, there will be before the end of Season 1.

“We’ll see those points of intersection this season and throughout the series as well,” Sutter said.

The two shows take place in the same world, so it isn’t a stretch for there to be crossover between them. However, Sutter says he wants to “keep it sacred.”

“I want to acknowledge that world and find opportunities to circle that, but I don’t want to abuse it,” he said.

In the seven seasons that “Sons of Anarchy” was on, fans sadly had to say some sad goodbyes to popular characters. Because of that, we know we can’t expect to see every reunion we might want to, but at least we’ll get to check back in with some familiar faces when the spinoff arrives.

“Mayans MC” premieres Sept. 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
