ghostbusters, lego, new ghostbusters, ghostbusters lego, legosFans got a good look at the cast of the upcoming “Ghostbusters” reboot via some new photos released earlier this week. Now, prepare to see those characters in LEGO form.

Yes, everyone’s favorite toy bricks are releasing a “Ghostbusters”-themed set of minifigs and vehicles in honor of the new flick, and the company previewed the pieces on Friday. The models include titular heroines Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), along with their bespectacled receptionist Kevin (Chris Hemsworth).

Aside from the regular version of Kevin, it looks like there’s also a possessed version, too, featuring red eyes and a menacing snarl. He’s accompanied by what appears to be one of the main antagonists of the film, described by LEGO as a “red Daemon,” which looks sort of like a skeletal, evil bat. (We imagine it’ll be even scarier on film, since director Paul Feig has promised a spookier version of events this time around.)

The Ecto-1 car and a motorbike dubbed Ecto-2 are also included in the set. (Check out more photos of the set here.) The entire thing will retail for $59.99, and will go on sale on July 1.

“Ghostbusters” hits theaters on July 15.

  • New ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot Details Emerge as Filming Begins

Ghostbusters” has officially begun production in Boston this week, and local media has the scoop on some new details about the latest entry in the franchise.

As stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon get ready to shoot their scenes, the Boston Herald reports that they have some intel on a few key plot points. The Herald writes:

Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia.

Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

That coincides with previous reports that outline the characters in the flick as (per The Dissolve) “Erin Gabler, an academic on the tenure track at Columbia; Abby Bergman, who pursues ghosts for a living, with a focus on parapsychology; Jillian, Abby’s ghost-hunting partner; and Patty, an MTA employee who comes across the main ghost.” So it seems Wiig will play Erin and McCarthy will play Abby; we’re betting McKinnon is Jillian and Jones is Patty, though of course, no official casting breakdown has been released just yet.

Other juicy bits from the Herald’s report include the fact that green ghost Slimer will return (something director Paul Feig alluded to on Twitter when he announced the beginning of filming), and that filmmakers are desperately trying to work out a deal for original ‘busters Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray to cameo. “They are negotiating,” a source told the Herald, though the notoriously difficult-to-reach Murray has so far been elusive. (Considering Murray was an early champion of McCarthy and Wiig joining the “Ghostbusters” reboot, we think it’s only right that he join in on the fun, too.)

“Ghostbusters” is currently shooting in Boston, and co-stars Cecily Strong and Chris Hemsworth. It’s due in theaters on July 22, 2016.

  • Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Casts Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, ‘SNL’ Stars

Ghostbusters cast, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie JonesWho you gonna call? Looks like it’s Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.

That foursome has been revealed as the new cast of Paul Feig’s upcoming all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, after the director tweeted out a photo of the actresses Tuesday afternoon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy has already signed on, while Wiig, Jones, and McKinnon are currently hammering out deals for the production.

McCarthy had long been rumored to be in the mix, and “Ghostbusters” will mark her fourth film with Feig, who previously directed the actress in “Bridesmaids,” “The Heat,” and the upcoming spoof “Spy.” McCarthy and Wiig will reunite on the big screen for the first time since co-starring in “Bridesmaids.”

McKinnon and Jones are the lesser-known members of the ensemble, though “Saturday Night Live” fans will recognize the scene-stealing comediennes. McKinnon has been an “SNL” staple since 2012 (she earned an Emmy nod for her work last year), and Jones joined the show in early 2014, starting out as a writer and quickly moving up the ranks to featured player status this season. She also has a role in Chris Rock’s latest, “Top Five.”

Variety also reports that fellow “SNL” star Cecily Strong is in contention for a small part. The trade writes that Strong “is likely to play a government official similar to the role William Atherton played in the original.”

Tuesday’s casting news comes after a long behind-the-scenes struggle for the flick, which was originally conceived as a straight sequel to “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters II.” But as the years wore on, original star Bill Murray declined to get involved with “Ghostbusters 3,” and plans to move forward with the threequel eventually fell apart after the death of star Harold Ramis in 2014.

Feig’s idea for an all-female reboot keeps the franchise alive while exploring a new story and new characters. And if it’s half as funny as his previous female-centric flicks, audiences will be very lucky.

We can’t wait to see McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon, and Jones in action. Production on “Ghostbusters” is expected to start this summer in New York.
