  • Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood Are Bumbling Bad Cops in ‘The Trust’ Trailer

“The Trust” already seems like a perfect buddy cop movie, with the cops — played by Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood — being bored officers who attempt to rob a vault at the back of a grocery store. What could go wrong?

The first trailer and poster were just released, ahead of the movie’s premiere at SXSW. The poster makes it look like a potentially serious thriller, but the trailer strikes a comedic tone — and hopefully the film follows suit, because the comedy of Cage being Crazy Cage and Wood being Innocent Big-Eyed Elijah is already so beautiful. They just work together, especially when they’re not quite working well with others.

Cage plays Jim Stone, with Wood as David Waters. Here’s the synopsis, via Flickering Myth:

“Waters and Stone are two nobody police officers working dull administrative jobs and making extra money selling stolen Civil Service Exams to other officers. When Stone hears a story about a heroin dealer quickly beating his extremely high bail, the two friends set into motion a plan to find the origin of such a large amount of cash. Through diligent police work they follow a trail that leads directly to a custom bank-style vault built into the back room freezer of a small grocery store. They put a plan into motion to rob the vault and split whatever they find inside. But by the time they figure out what the vault contains, it’s already too late to turn back.”

Now that you know “the drill” (that joke will make sense in a minute), here’s the trailer:

    Here’s the full poster:

“The Trust” premieres exclusively on DIRECTV CINEMA, and you can head here to find more information.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Hillary Clinton’s Hilarious Donald Trump Call, Tobey Maguire Plays Connect Four

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Hillary Clinton got her funny on Wednesday night on “The Tonight Show,” answering a phone call from Jimmy Fallon’s Donald Trump. It’s so good. It’s huuuuuuge! But against the real Trump, she’d barely get a word in without interruptions. Here’s Hillary doing her own impression of The Donald, after she and Jimmy discussed Trump’s hair and Jimmy pulled Hillary’s hair to check that it’s real:
Side note: It’ll be a great day when we stop hearing about Donald Trump every.single.night on every.single.talk.show.

Over on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Tobey Maguire — who’s a great poker player — took on Jimmy in a game of Connect Four. And they placed bets. No, really. Spoiler alert: Tobey is good. On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Kevin Spacey explained who Frank Underwood is talking to on “House of Cards.” (Hint: Donald Trump would like the answer.) The amazing Elijah Wood talked to Seth Meyers about his favorite horror movies and what it was like to make “Cooties” with Rainn Wilson. He also played a little game of “Would Elijah Wood?” Horatio Sanz was also on “Late Night.” Here’s his impressive work as a penis graffiti artist. Seth’s giggle is the best part:
Over on “Conan,” David Oyelowo shared a bad job experience he had back in London. He worked for a “very famous fast food chain” and “did a bad thing.” He said he was so bad at the job that, one time, he accidentally used the toilet brush to wash all of the utensils. Nasty!

And last, but not least, here are Emily Mortimer and Chris O’Donnell playing “Don’t Google Yourself” on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Don’t worry, Emily, you’re not annoying!

  • Vin Diesel Isn’t Afraid of Anything in ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ Trailer

Last Witch HunterWho do you call when a horde of powerful, evil witches wants to destroy the world? “The Last Witch Hunter.”

In the first full trailer for the action-fantasy movie, Vin Diesel plays Kaulder, the titular character tasked with saving the world. There’s nothing he’s afraid of, because he’s immortal. That’s been a blessing and a curse, which we can see from sad flashbacks to Kaulder’s wife and child some 800 years ago.

“He is the most hardened and deadliest soldier due to his immortality,” Diesel told Entertainment Weekly. “We assume the immortality is a gift, but we learn from understanding his world that there is a certain pain that he has been harboring for so long and there’s a certain isolation that the character’s had to live with.”

That isolation doesn’t persist for long. Helping Kaulder in his quest are the wise Father Dolan (Michael Caine); his young protege priest (Elijah Wood); and good witch Chloe (Rose Leslie), whose dreamwalking abilities might be the key to victory.

“The Last Witch Hunter” opens October 23.
