  • Watch Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres Have a Conversation as Woody and Dory

tom hanks, ellen degeneres, woody, dory, toy story, finding dory, pixar, pixar-offIn addition to being famous actors known and beloved the world over, Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Hanks have something else major in common: They both play Pixar characters, with DeGeneres providing the voice for Dory in “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory,” and Hanks playing Woody in the “Toy Story” films. The pair chatted about the coincidence during Hanks’s recent appearance on Ellen’s talk show, and even had what they dubbed a “Pixar-off” where they had a conversation entirely in character.

Encouraging audience members to close their eyes so they could imagine Woody and Dory sitting there rather than Hanks and DeGeneres, the two actors proceeded to spout off frenzied lines in-character about looking for Woody’s hat and swimming in the ocean. It’s a fun little sequence that both performers clearly enjoyed, and the crowd ate it up.DeGeneres and Hanks also discussed the challenges of a voiceover performance, with DeGeneres noting, “It’s harder work than people think it is because it’s all emoting, just your voice is doing all the acting.” Hanks admitted that his “diaphragm is exhausted” after four-hour recording sessions as Woody, since the character is “always clenched.”

The clip is a cool peek into the Pixar acting process, and kind of makes us wish that Dory and Woody could team up for real on the big screen. Maybe a “Toy Story”-“Finding Dory” crossover can be Pixar’s next big project?

  • ‘Finding Dory’ Scores Great Early Reviews, Eyes $115 Million Opening Weekend

finding dory, finding nemo, nemo, dory, marlin, pixar, pixar animation, animation, disney, ellen degeneres, ty burrell, ed o'€™neill, kaitlin olson, eugene levy, albert brooks, diane keaton, andrew stanton, lindsey collins, idris elba, dominic west“Finding Dory” is already making a splash ahead of its release this coming weekend, scoring some excellent early reviews in anticipation of a massive opening weekend haul.

“Dory,” the sequel to 2003’s Oscar-winning “Finding Nemo,” is the latest sequel to a beloved Pixar property, but unlike, say, “Cars 2,” “Dory” is a hit with critics so far, earning a jaw-dropping 96 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes so far. The star-studded sequel features the returning Ellen DeGeneres as the titular forgetful blue tang fish, who sets out to find her family in the follow-up. Other big names in the voice cast include Albert Brooks (returning as Nemo’s dad, Marlin), Diane Keaton (Dory’s mom), Eugene Levy (Dory’s Dad), and a lively bunch of supporting oceanic characters, played by Ty Burrell, Kaitlin Olson, Willem Dafoe, Ed O’Neill, Dominic West, and Idris Elba.

All those familiar faces (or voices, in this case), not to mention the stellar Pixar pedigree, should add up to a big opening weekend at the box office, according to industry analysts. With “Dory” set to open on 4,305 screens, it will be the widest opening in the company’s history, and that’s not an accident: Pixar is surely hoping to top its current biggest opener record holder, “Toy Story 3,” which bowed to $110.3 million in 2010.

Right now, “Dory” is pegged to open somewhere in the $110 to $115 million range, and obviously, parent company Disney would like it to fall on the higher end of that scale. Considering that fan excitement for the flick was already at a fever pitch way back in January, “Dory” should have no trouble swimming to the top of the box office — and hopefully make off with a record, too.

    “Finding Dory” opens on Friday.

  • Here’s the First ‘Finding Dory’ Poster

finding dory, finding dory poster, ellen degeneresPixar fans will have to wait a while longer for the release of “Finding Nemo” sequel “Finding Dory,” but they can whet their appetites with the flick’s very first poster.

Titular star Ellen DeGeneres revealed the one-sheet on her Twitter page on Monday, where she also teased the release of the film’s first trailer, which is set to drop sometime on Tuesday. But the main attraction for now is the poster, and while it’s a simple image, it speaks volumes.

The poster prominently features the tagline, “She just kept swimming…,” a nod to Dory’s famous favorite tune from “Nemo.” It’s both a clever callback, and also indicative of the action to come in “Dory,” which finds our heroine searching for her own family, keeping swimming in the face of uncertainty. The image is finished off by Dory’s tail fin disappearing out of frame, proving that this forgetful fish hasn’t lost her fuzzy memory (she’s clearly forgotten that she’s supposed to pose for her own poster). Classic Dory.

“Finding Dory” also features the voices of Albert Brooks (reprising his role as Marlin), Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ty Burrell, Idris Elba, and Dominic West. It’s due to swim into theaters on June 17, 2016.
