    • Walt Disney Studios made its presentation to the 2026 CinemaCon crowd.
    • Among the movies promoted were ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ and ‘The Dog Stars’.
    • And, of course, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Once the all-conquering ruler of the box office, Disney has seen its fortunes take a tumble in the last couple of years, with the likes of Marvel and Pixar movies suffering issues at the box office.

Still, the Mouse House still has quite the line up, with the likes of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as big hope points.

Pixar, meanwhile, has a new ‘Toy Story’ offering, and ‘Star Wars’ is back on the big screen. Plus ‘Moana’ is getting the live-action treatment. Let’s see what the company chooses to spotlight…

Before the lights went down, attendees were given a ‘Mandalorian & Grogu’ popcorn bag and a ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’-branded diet coke.

The typical studio sizzle reel kicked things off, with plenty of Disney highlights and wrapping with riffs on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ –– the countdown clock that has been part of the promos so far counting down to zero and the caption “Disney will return to CinemaCon.”

There is, of course, a little boasting to de done about last year’s success stories, including a joke about renaming ‘Zootopia 2’ to “Zootopia $1.9 billion”.

With the comedy sequel just a couple of weeks away from release, there wasn’t too much on it, just a quick video message from Anne Hathaway: “20 years later, we are back!” She also thanked theater owners for their support.

But did also cue up some new footage from the movie. Three words: Miranda. Priestly. Zingers.

Surely one of the biggest titles (outside of the MCU) to be showcased here is the return of ‘Star Wars’ to the big screen.

Writer/director Jon Favreau arrived on stage to remark how the opening shot of the original ‘Star Wars’ changed the path of his life, and how there will be plenty of IMAX footage in the new movie. Not to mention a fresh score from composer Ludwig Göransson.

Favreau announced the final trailer for the movie (which you can see above) and also showed the opening sequence, which includes an AT-AT in the snow before we watch Mando (Pedro Pascal) get his next bounty hunting gig.

If you’re wondering whether ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ got a mention, the answer is yes –– but only in picture form, and nothing we haven’t seen before.

We went from the galaxy far, far away to the Pixar universe, via some ‘Toy Story 5’ footage. This time around, Woody (who has been off helping rescue other toys) and Buzz, along with their friends, must confront a new toy in Bonnie’s life –– a tech gadget called Lily Pad (voiced by Greta Lee).

Tim Allen (Buzz) and Tom Hanks (Woody) strode on stage to talk about their latest animated effort. The pair exchanged light banter, made fun of working off of a teleprompter and gave plenty of love to the Pixar team. They also introduced a new clip from the movie, featuring their characters reuniting.

    ‘Moana’

Next up is Disney’s ongoing effort to convert all of their animated output to live-action movies. ‘Moana’, which was a huge success in cartoon form back in 2016, is back with a mostly new cast, though retained Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

He was on stage to discuss the film and gush about how much Maui means to him and how his performance was inspired by his grandfather. Johnson was joined by Catherine Laga’aia, who plays Moana, and she revealed that she’d done her very first interview for the movie today.

And, as is standard, we got some new footage from the movie.

    ‘The Dog Stars’

Next up from the House of Mouse, an original – Ridley Scott‘s latest, ‘The Dog Stars’ Sir Rid himself appeared (on screen) to introduce the post-apocalyptic story, which stars Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley and Josh Brolin.

It’s set after the world’s population has been ravaged by a pandemic, and follows Elordi’s Hig, who lives a lonesome existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with his dog and a dour gunman (Brolin) he has befriended. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he’s flying his old Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound.

Scott brought the audience first new trailer for the movie, which you can find above, and an early scene.

    ‘Whalefall’

We’re clearly in the “originals” section (okay, both ‘The Dog Stars’ and this are adapted from novels), as ‘Whalefall’ was next.

The movie follows a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places. Oh, and like Ridley Scott’s movie, this also features Josh Brolin.

‘Whalefall’ comes from director Brian Duffield, who previously brought us ‘No One Will Save You’. And the first look at the movie finds the main character, played by Austin Abrams, getting drawn into the mouth of the whale.

Some of the voice cast, including Ray Romano (Manny), Denis Leary (Diego), and Queen Latifah (Ellie) took the stage to introduce the first look at the sixth (count ’em) main movie in the franchise.

We got a look at footage from the beginning of the movie, which features an adorable baby Scratch (the squirrel, in case you forgot).

    ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Of course Marvel was going to wrap things up with what Disney is hoping will be one of, if not the biggest film of the year. No pressure, then…

Marvel boss Kevin Feige arrived on stage to discuss ‘Doomsday’ and introduce something called ‘Infinity Vision’ which will enhance the viewing experience (read more about that here). He also mentioned that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will be back in theaters ahead of the new movie.

Feige was joined by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who talked about how Doctor Doom (played in the new movie, of course, by Robert Downey Jr.) is the best Marvel villain because he’s always three steps ahead.

And then it was the turn of the man himself (RDJ, not Doom), on stage to announce he wants to give away all the spoilers, but isn’t permitted (and anyway, that’s Tom Holland‘s job).

A first proper trailer for ‘Doomsday’ played (lots of X-Men) action, and Chris Evans appeared on stage to admit he was only going to return to the MCU for a good reason (no jokes about dump trucks full of money, please). There was a mock argument between RDJ and Evans about their characters.

The trailer played a second time, and let’s just say this… there was screaming in the audience.

And with that, Disney’s out! Which also marks the end of the studio presentations. Hope you enjoyed our coverage!

Moviefone recently had a chance to speak with actress Ayelet Zurer about her work on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, Vanessa’s death, leaving the show, what playing the character has meant to her, Vanessa’s relationship with Wilson, what will happen to him now that she is gone, working with Vincent D’Onofrio and the rest of the cast, the reaction from the fans, and if we might see the actress appear in a flashback in the future.

Moviefone: To begin with, when did you learn of Vanessa’s death and what was it like filming her final scenes?

Ayelet Zurer: I got some calls. I was parking my car, and I got a call from Dario (Scardapane) first and then Vincent. We discussed and they wanted me to know where the season is going and how they’re going to take it. It was brutal at first, but at the same time, I really understood why they needed it to really pull all the guns and make this season explosive, and they succeeded. Then, through the season, we had a lot of emotions because we knew every single scene will be maybe the last scene doing that, and we’ll never have that again. So, it was emotional in some ways, and I think it gave another layer to the whole thing. Then obviously, the last two episodes were brutal. It was fun but I was so emotional.

MF: What has it meant to you personally to be a part of this series and to play this character and what are you going to miss most about playing Vanessa?

AZ: I really love her journey, I have to say. I love the journey from ‘Daredevil’ the Netflix show where she’s just a person who’s meeting this man and falling in love with that extremist and saying to him that she’s intrigued by his brutality. Moving away from it, but then moving back into it, and then committing to it, and them having that deal of loyalty for truth, which keeps them together. Then lending that into season 1 of ‘Born Again’, where she’s the boss, she’s matured into that part, and she is now that seasoned woman who’s running the show. Also, the emotional complication between them because he left and what does that mean, loyalty for truth? Because that’s always been the theme for them. Then into this season where she’s realizing that she might not be enough and nothing will be enough for him, really. Power is never enough. Control is not going to be enough. So, I think something breaks inside of her, but at the same time, she’s staying loyal and very protective of him all the way until coming to where she’s not invited to be, to take aim, and to possibly take the bullet. She’s not taking a bullet, but she’s taking something else and going down. So, I think the arc of it all really plays so well and it’s just such a beautiful character, I think. It’s very poetic in my perspective and I’m happy for completion. It’s completed with a bow on top.

MF: Can you talk about Wilson and Vanessa’s relationship, and now that there is no one to hold him back, what do you think the future of New York City will look like with Fisk as Mayor without Vanessa by his side?

AZ: Brutal. He’s going to explode, for sure. I think the audience will be expecting that to happen. I think in a way, subconsciously, because Vincent is playing big, and is large, and he’s also energetically big, and Vanessa is constrained. Her energy is very centered, and that together was balancing each other. So now, one power without the other to balance it is going to be explosive.

MF: What has it been like working with Vincent D’Onofrio to create their relationship on screen?

AZ: I mean, I love him to death. He is a friend. I think we created a relationship/friendship that is similar in some ways to the relationship of our characters in the sense that we have this loyalty and he’s always very protective of me. No matter what was going on. If there was a need for protection, he was always there. So, I will always remember that when thinking of him. I also think he’s a phenomenal actor. We worked well together. I think our chemistry together was profound and became easier with the years. It was so smooth, the listening and the reaction. It was great. I’m going to miss that.

MF: In addition to Vincent and of course Charlie, you also got to work with new cast members Lili Taylor and Matthew Lillard this season. What was it like for you to have scenes with them?

AZ: It was amazing. Lily is amazing. First, she’s brilliant. She’s funny, she’s smart, and she’s everything you would expect her to be. I think she’s a great casting in that specific role. Of course, Charlie has been doing an amazing job on this show, making it so real, down to earth, and so connected. Both Charlie and Vincent were always on top of the writing as well. They were always contributing, so I think that’s also something that’s really elevated the show in a way. I mean, everything is elevating the show. You have an amazing cast on that show, you really do.

MF: While being very entertaining, the show also deals with some serious subject matter. What has it been like for you to have a chance to explore some of those themes in this series?

AZ: Yes, the themes are interesting. The themes of what is good and what is bad? The mask you wear in life, and when you take off the mask, who are you? Faith, and love, I mean, it’s endless. I think it’s a beautifully poetic show in that sense.

MF: What has your experience been like starring on a Marvel series and were you surprised by the fan’s reaction to the show?

AZ: Wow, the fan reaction is amazing. I’ve never seen something so intensely loyal from the fans. It’s so interesting to see. I’ve never done this thing where you watch people watch the show. It’s kind of mind boggling, but I sort of became addicted to that because I am so intrigued by how they perceive certain things. So, I watch that sometimes and it’s so interesting. To be honest, the fans brought the show back in a way. They did. I mean, I will never forget the massive posters in New York saying, “Bring back ‘Daredevil’.” I think that loyalty is an outcome of a good show that really deals with some intriguing themes regarding humanity. But also knows how to have fun at the same time. It’s like the action is entertaining. It’s beautifully shot. The cinematographers and the directors on that shows are so talented. I’m going to miss this whole thing.

MF: Finally, now that Vanessa is gone, does that mean you will never appear on the show again or is there a chance you could return in a flashback some day?

AZ: I think the fans must ask for that. It comes down to that, really. But you never know.

Arriving on Disney+ on April 6 with the first two episodes (and six more to follow on a mostly weekly schedule) is ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’, the latest step in Dave Filoni’s animated adventures set in the galaxy far, far away.

    U2CRLO9ZkDEDsFBzwhetN

The voice cast for the show includes Sam Witwer (‘The Mist’), Wagner Moura (‘The Secret Agent’), Richard Ayoade (‘Submarine’), Dennis Haysbert (‘24’), Chris Diamantopoulos (‘The Boys in the Boat’) and David W. Collins (‘The Mandalorian’).

While his recent promotion to joint chief of Lucasfilm means he won’t have quite as much time to play in the ‘Star Wars’ sandbox, Dave Filoni is still enjoying the chance to expand the reach of George Lucas’ creation, this time continuing the story of the former Darth Maul.

By layering in crime thriller genre tropes and adding more to Maul himself, Filoni has delivered another smaller-scale animated success.

    Script and Direction

Working with Matt Michnovetz to develop the series, Filoni blends the likes of ‘Heat’ with the ‘Star Wars’ milieu for a fun mix that gives Maul fans (yes, we know you’re out there) plenty to enjoy.

And beyond the lead, there are several compelling characters contained within superior scripts.

On the directorial front, supervising director Brad Rau brings a stylish noir touch to the show, while also keeping it of a piece with previous animated outings.

Sam Witwer continues to find interesting new directions to take his character, and has really owned the role. Aside from him, Wagner Moura is good value as hard-bitten police detective Brander Lawson, aided by sidekick droid Two-Boots, voiced by a game Richard Ayoade.

On the villainous side, Filoni continues his obsession with comedy droids, with this show’s MVP being Spybot (David W. Collins), a cackling delight.

Even if you only know Maul from ‘The Phantom Menace’, chances are you will find something to enjoy here –– the action is intense, the characters compelling and the show as a whole fits well into the ‘Star Wars’ universe while also feeling fresh.

Given that it was seemingly unceremoniously released in one batch on Disney+ back in January and didn’t seem to spur that much pop cultural awareness despite strong reviews, Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’ series has scored a welcome second season renewal.

The show, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley and took a very different approach to superhero storytelling (more on that below), becomes one of the few Marvel Cinematic Universe series to land a second season, following the likes of ‘Loki’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

Arriving on Disney+ on March 11 with the first episode of its second season (with the remaining seven arriving weekly) is ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, which brings back lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) has he battles the powerful Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who is ruling New York as mayor with an iron fist.

The first season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ was a largely successful attempt to fully incorporate Daredevil and his nemesis Wilson Fisk into the MCU with their own storyline. Though it suffered from some very apparent seams as the behind-the-scenes team attempted to rescue an unsuccessful first effort with new material, it still provided some superior entertainment.

The second season doesn’t have the same collision of creative vision, but it does have its own challenges.

    Script and Direction

Dario Scardapane takes full control of the season this year, and is clearly happy to be unleashed. The action is brutal in places, the dialogue often crackles and the storyline is much smoother.

Still, there are issues: at times the momentum lags, and not every plotline outside of the main clash between our central hero and villain works.

Directorially, with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead leading the team, the show still looks great, with moody scenes, excellent fights and some inventive connective tissue (such as a series of videos mocking Fisk).

Cox and D’Onofrio know exactly what they’re doing at this point, and if the script doesn’t always keep up with them, they make the most of their material.

Outside of them, the likes of Deborah Ann Woll, Genneya Walton and particularly new guest star Matthew Lillard are all strong, Lillard in particular excellent as the mysterious Mr. Charles, who is by turns funny and threatening.

The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen may not have worked out all of his issues, but the second run of ‘Born Again’ certainly offers enough to please fans of the character. And with Season 3 already shooting, we know more will be on the way.

While the character remains an iconic part of the Disney firmament, there have been frustrations with realizing her in the live-action world.

A live-action feature named ‘Tink’ was in development in 2015, with Reese Witherspoon set to play the lead. But that never came to pass and the idea has now been retooled into a series.

Moviefone: To begin with, can you talk about breaking the story for this film, and was it something that you were thinking about while you were making ‘Prey’?

Dan Trachtenberg: It came at the tail end of ‘Prey’. I just started thinking about, what would we do next if we were to do another one? I really felt like, if the next thing is just part two of what we just did, then the movie doesn’t get to stand on its own merits. Sometimes, you make a special thing and then part two is just the sequel to the special thing, not a special thing in and of itself. So, it was like, what would be another idea if I was making a first Predator movie again? There was this fan sentiment about the Predator of like, “Why does he always lose?” So that sparked the idea of, “Okay, if the Predator wins, what would be a story in which I could be rooting for the Predator? That led to the Predator as the protagonist and being thrust into the gauntlet like Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Naru (Amber Midthunder), and Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover). You know, like all the protagonists go through. What if the Predator was going through that gauntlet? Then really wanting to find a story where you could emotionally connect with this monster and have a great time with. I did not want to put any humans in the movie because if we put in a human, then it would just become a two-hander again and the human would feel like a protagonist so that’s why it became a robot. The idea of a broken robot, like Chewbacca and C-3PO, and then Weyland-Yutani and Synths, so it all spiraled from thinking of “what hasn’t been done” in Predator movies and what hasn’t been done in sci-fi.

MF: The film has several references to other Predator movies but also contains Easter Eggs for the ‘Alien’ series and the larger ‘Alien vs. Predator’ franchise. Can you talk about the choice to include those references in this movie?

DT: With ‘Alien’ and ‘Predator’, it’s not taking the big action figures and throwing them together, but instead, taking a little portion from one franchise and have that interwoven into the other, to say that’s another way of universe unifying and building it. That felt exciting to me. Frankly, it was born out of what the story wanted anyway. If the ‘Alien’ franchise was at another studio, we still would have made this movie. It just wouldn’t have been Weyland-Yutani as the company, but because it could be Wayland, it meant that then we could include MU/TH/UR and have it reflected in the father dynamic that Dek has. So, all of that made the movie richer but it wasn’t like, “We need to do ‘Alien vs. Predator’ How are we going to do that?” It didn’t come from that; it came from the narrative needs.

MF: Can you also talk about the choice to make the Predator the protagonist of this movie and show his home planet for the first time?

DT: It was incredibly challenging. The language, obviously had to be developed whole cloth, both written and spoken. His face, which was deliciously designed by Stan Winston with James Cameron‘s input to include the mandibles back in the 80s, is so cool for being a frightening and intimidating creature. But not at all conducive to having a wide range of emotion like we needed in the film. So, it was a great challenge to have to translate what Demetrius was performing into a face that has no nose, no lips, and teeth that don’t even let the mouth close. There was a temptation to cover his face up more and have him wear the mask. But I really didn’t want to soften our attempt at saying, “It’s a monster and you’re going to care.” So, we faced the challenge head on.

MF: Can you also talk about the challenges of creating the Predator’s language for this movie?

DT: We worked with a language expert, Britton Watkins, who’s both a language expert and sci-fi fan and really developed an entire grammar structure and dictionary, all based off of the physiology of the Yautja from ‘Predator’. So, it all comes from the way that we assume the throat works and the mandibles and all of that. It was an entirely custom-made language for the movie that Demetrius and Elle had to learn. I had a script that I could look at, but I really paid more attention to rhythm and emotion, and that things felt authentic rather than needing to know the pronunciations.

Thia (Elle Fanning) in 20th Century Studios’ ‘Predator: Badlands’ film. Photo courtesy of 20th Century Studios. © 2025 20th Century Studios. All Rights Reserved.

MF: Can you talk about casting Elle Fanning as both Thia and Tessa, and her specific and separate performances?

DT: That was the exciting thing. We’ve seen a lot of twin portrayals in movies throughout the years and characters doing dual roles, but being the funny sidekick, as well as the villain, typically requires two different actors. What Elle did is tremendous, and I got a lot of inspiration in watching ‘The Great’, where she was funny and there was an innocence to her character when it starts, then she must get really intense and that’s what clicked a nerve for me in casting her.

MF: Finally, have you started thinking about ideas for another installment yet? If so, would it be another original story, or would it include returning characters from ‘Prey’ or ‘Badlands’?

DT: I’m really developing both. I’m in this moment now where I was after ‘Prey’, where I was just trying to get excited about a path to take. I came up with a bunch of different paths and in that case, making both at the same time with ‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ and ‘Badlands’. So, now we are figuring out what the next step of some of the characters are. We’re also figuring out and have been quite stoked about some other ways into the franchise that we haven’t seen before So, all things are being developed.

‘Predator: Badlands’ will be available February 12th on Hulu and on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD February 17th.

When Disney bought the Muppets in the early 2000s, it seemed like the perfect home for Jim Henson’s characters after his death in the 1990s. However, more than 20 years later, the “House of Mouse” has struggled with their Muppet assets.

Except for the MuppetVision 3D* attraction at Disney’s amusement parks, the beloved felt characters basically laid dormant until Jason Segel successfully resurrected them with the feature film ‘The Muppets’ in 2011. While the movie was considered a hit, it didn’t exactly break box office records and led to the disappointing sequel, 2014’s ‘Muppets Most Wanted’.

Following that, an attempt to resurrect the Muppets again on television began with the disastrous ABC series ‘The Muppets’, which tried desperately to update the classic characters. Mistake! They would try again with ‘Muppets Now’ on Disney+, which was an update of the original format but failed to connect with audiences and was a casualty of the chaotic COVID era. Even an attempt to give Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem their own show with ‘The Muppets Mayhem’ was met with a mixed response.

So, Disney has finally decided to do the only thing left to do with the Muppets, which is to bring back their original show and format. The result is ‘The Muppet Show’ Special, which is basically an expensive pilot for a possible revival series. But I’m happy to report that the special works on all levels.

Yes, it’s just an updated version on the 70s series, filled with nostalgia for the original show, but it also feels fresh and new thanks to host Sabrina Carpenter (who has great chemistry with Kermit and Piggy), and executive producer Seth Rogen. With many characters to serve, the special does a great job of giving each Muppet a moment to shine, and while some of the sketches are just updated versions of sketches from the original series, the updated songs and characters make the special, well, feel special.

    Story and Direction

The special begins with a nostalgic look at the Muppet theater, dark and somber from years of vacancy, suddenly brought to life when Kermit turns on the stage lights. Then the show pretty much follows the same template as the original series. Scooter tells the guest host there is “2 minutes to curtain,” then Kermit introduces the show from the Muppet Show logo, waving his arms with excitement, and the Muppets perform the theme song intro with Gonzo blowing his trumpet at the end.

Like the original, we get a mix of on-stage performances, and behind the scenes chaos. This week’s dilemma is that Kermit in his excitement booked too many acts for the show and now must tell Miss Piggy he is cutting one of her numbers. That doesn’t go well as you can imagine. Familiar acts return like ‘Muppets Lab’ with Beaker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, as well as Statler and Waldorf ridiculing the show from their balcony seats.

But the show is not without its updates, which all work in tone with the original. For example, instead of ‘Pigs in Space’, we get ‘Pigs in Wigs’, a sendoff of ‘Bridgerton’ starring Miss Piggy. Another update is that the audience, which use to only feature other Muppets watching, now has a mix of Muppets and humans in attendance. The music is also updated, with Sabrina Carpenter performing one of her songs, ‘Manchild’, in addition to duetting with Kermit on Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Islands in the Stream’, while Rizzo and his rat friends performed ‘Blinding Lights’ by The Weeknd.

Also returning is Gonzo the Great, who once again performs one of his tragic daredevil stunts. This time roller skating through blades and fire hoops while reciting every Best Supporting Actress winner ever. My mom is a huge Gonzo fan, but to tell the truth, I never really thought he was all that funny. However, he was a standout on the special and the running gag of him skating in and out of frame shouting “Lupita Nyong’o” or “Dianne Wiest” had me in stitches.

You can tell that Disney put a lot of money behind this special as the production design looks incredible, almost too good to match the original 70s show. It’s a tad bit too slick for the Muppets, but it certainly doesn’t take away from the excitement of seeing the gang back together, and never affects the Muppet tone, which for the first time in a long time, Disney has gotten right.

It’s clear that Seth Rogen and his team has a lot of love for the original show and these characters and has spent a lot of time and thought into reviving the beloved program. In that sense, if the special was an experiment to see if the Muppets are still relevant, then I’m ready to say it was a success!

    Cast and Performances

As great as it was to see all my childhood friends back together again, if you are a fan of the original, there is one thing that might bother you … the Muppets have different voices now! Jim Henson is gone, Frank Oz has retired, and the only original Muppeteer left is Dave Goelz, who voices Gonzo, Waldorf, and a few other characters. But Kermit, Fozzie, Dr. Teeth, Piggy, and pretty much everyone else sounds very different, and it takes a little getting used to for longtime fans.

One very important ingredient in the ‘Muppet Show’ recipe is the guest star and the original show was famous for having talented guests who were ready to have fun with the Muppets. Original hosts included Steve Martin, Elton John, Debbie Harry, Rita Moreno, Lynda Carter, Roger Moore, Sylvester Stallone, and Mark Hamill. In that tradition, I couldn’t think of a better guest star for this special than superstar Sabrina Carpenter.

The pop diva has an infectious energy that mixes well with the Muppet chaos, and her onscreen admiration for one of the greatest divas of all time, Miss Piggy, is a highlight of the show. Kermit even says to her at the end, “You fit right in with us.” To which Carpenter replies, “Well, it helps we’re the same height.”

Executive producer Seth Rogen has a funny cameo with Fozzie Bear, who non-diplomatically tells Rogen that he has been cut from his own show. Maya Rudolph’s appearance is also just a cameo, but she has some great comedic moments in the audience and during a Muppets News Flash, ushering in the return of the bumbling Muppet Newsman.

My only complaint is as a hard-core Animal fan, and fan of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem in general, they did not get enough screen time. But to be fair, they all had a moment to shine, with Janice having her own scene opposite Kermit, and I guess they did all just recently have their own series.

The special does do its best to give every Muppet their moment, putting some in the background as Easter eggs, but with so many characters, not everyone is going to get enough time. Which is exactly why I hope the special is successful and Disney and Rogen decide to turn it into an ongoing series. Then there will be time to reintroduce and explore each character more, and maybe even introduce some new ones.

Seth Rogen has done the impossible … he’s made The Muppets relevant again. I think he’s also proven that the first way is the best way, and the Muppets are at their best on TV doing their classic form of a variety show. ‘The Muppet Show’ Special is sure to be a hit with old and new fans alike.

There is really nothing left to say except:

“It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to raise the curtain on the Muppet Show tonight!”

‘The Muppet Show’ Special receives a score of 95 out of 100.

What is the plot of ‘The Muppet Show’ Special?

Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos is bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!
