  • There’s a ‘Deadpool’ Director’s Cut That’s ‘Even More Raw’

Deadpool” has already landed itself an R rating from the MPAA, and has been banned in China for its graphic violence and nudity. But why stop there? According to one of the film’s stars, there’s also a director’s cut of the flick, and it’s even raunchier than what will be seen on the big screen next month.

That intel comes courtesy of actor T.J. Miller, who was chatting with fans alongside titular star Ryan Reynolds following a fan screening of “Deadpool” in London this week. During the Q&A session, Miller confirmed that director Tim Miller also had an unrated version of the controversial flick up his sleeve, presumably waiting for fans on home video.

“When you see the full director’s cut of it, that’s gonna be even more raw,” T.J. Miller promised fans at the screening. “It’s pretty heavy duty.”

It’s interesting that the director wants to push the envelope even further, considering he was given pretty much endless freedom to depict all the sex and violence he wanted from the beginning (producers promised the flick would earn an R long before it went before the MPAA). But apparently, Tim Miller’s vision for this “X-Men” spinoff really verged on the X-rated at times. Thankfully, if you’re into that sort of thing, you can check it out on Blu-ray and DVD in a few months.

In the meantime, the much more tame, R-rated “Deadpool” is due in theaters on February 12.

  • ‘Deadpool’ Banned From China Release Over Graphic Violence, Nudity

The filmmakers behind “Deadpool” have prided themselves on the flick’s “hard R” rating, promising to deliver a different, more graphic breed of superhero movie to fans. Now, that plan has prevented the film from debuting in China, the second-biggest movie market on the planet.

According to local media reports (as translated by The Hollywood Reporter), Chinese officials have denied “Deadpool” permission to screen in the country, despite its Marvel affiliation. The country often works to assure Marvel movies release in China, since the flicks are quite popular there; unfortunately for “Deadpool,” its self-boasted coarse language and graphic violence and nudity were its undoing.

Here’s how the decision unfolded, per THR:

China’s censorship authorities often work with the Hollywood studios to create cleaned-up special cuts of R-rated movies, but sources close to the Deadpool decision say it wasn’t possible to excise the offending material without causing plot problems.

China has no ratings system, so the country’s media regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), makes an up-down judgment on all film imports, approving or banning them for consumption by Chinese viewers of all ages.

Though the folks at Marvel (and parent company Disney) are no doubt bummed over missing out on the lucrative Chinese market, we have a feeling that those closely involved in the “Deadpool” production are probably pretty proud of their movie being banned. The Merc With a Mouth would no doubt approve.

“Deadpool,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular antihero, is due in U.S. theaters on February 12.

  • Producer Says ‘Deadpool’ Will Be Rated ‘Hard R’: ‘It’s Graphic’

deadpoolThere have been promises before that “Deadpool” will be a different breed of superhero movie, and that includes the film’s rating. Star Ryan Reynolds has said in the past that the flick will be rated R, and now, producer Simon Kinberg is doubling down on that declaration.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which he also debuted a new “Deadpool” photo (see below), Kinberg said that audiences would not be disappointed in the colorful, foul-mouthed hero’s onscreen representation.

“‘Deadpool’ is a hard R,” Kinberg told EW. “It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

In fact, the flick is so dark that its director, Tim Miller (making his feature debut), linked it to a surprising source of inspiration.

“I felt ‘Fight Club‘ and Tyler Durden were good corollaries,” Miller told EW. “We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

Check out a new photo from the flick below. “Deadpool” is due in theaters on February 12.
