  • Dave Bautista: If Jared Leto’s Joker Can Get a Solo Movie, What About Drax?

What about a Drax movie? We’ll do you one better — WHY about a Drax movie?

News came out yesterday that Jared Leto‘s Joker was getting his own standalone movie in the WB/DC Universe, after his small showcase in “Suicide Squad.”

    Well!

If that can happen, Dave Bautista joked, then Marvel must be super ready to give Drax his own standalone movie in the MCU, after the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

He was just kidding, but … honestly? Why the heck not! It could be two solid hours of Drax being “invisible” and we’d still watch it opening weekend.

Here’s Bautista replying to a comment on the Jared Leto news, then getting backup from “Guardians” writer/director James Gunn:

Last month, James Gunn tweeted support for Drax to get his own movie:

And just a few hours before the new Joker/Drax exchange, James Gunn replied to a video clip of Bautista talking about how long Drax can stay invisible:

Dave Bautista improvised his best line in “Infinity War,” so if he got his own standalone movie, they could just let him riff off whoever is around him — hopefully Mantis, Rocket, Groot, maybe Star-Lord, and that “handsome, muscular man” Thor. That’s *if* any or all of them manage to still be around after “Avengers 4.” We know it’ll be a game-changer, and it opens next May.

Bautista did confirm to EW that he’ll be part of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which films next year. He also said he’d totally be up for a Drax solo movie, but he’s not sure if that’s in Marvel’s plans.

  • Dave Bautista Improvised One of Drax’s Best Lines in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Dave Bautista is the real MVP.

He has been stealing scenes as Drax since he first arrived in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” There are 14 million characters in “Avengers: Infinity War,” but Bautista’s Drax still managed to upstage the big names around him.

Turns out, he improvised one of his best moments. It’s not the one where he gushes over Thor as a “handsome, muscular man,” although that scene is classic, too. No, it’s the “Why?” scene.

“Infinity War” screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told Yahoo Dave Bautista came up with his “Why is Gamora?” line:

“The script only said, ‘Where is Gamora?’ ‘I’ll do you even better: Who is Gamora?’ And then one day Bautista just goes, ‘I’ll do you one better: Why is Gamora?’” Markus recalled. “It’s like, ‘OK, you’re very good at your job.’”

    Nice.

The screenwriters also said Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man) ad-libbed his big scene toward the end of the movie. No spoilers, but if you’ve seen it, you remember it.

“Avengers 3” is now cleaning up in theaters. It’s way past $1 billion now, and opening in China’s major market today. “Avengers 4” arrives in theaters in May 2019.

  • Watch ‘Handsome, Muscular’ Thor Meet the Guardians in Full ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Clip

But watch fast in case it gets pulled.

Marvel aired this hilarious “Avengers: Infinity War” scene last week during the Kids Choice Awards. The footage was previously shown at the D23 Expo in summer 2017, but Marvel never shared the clip online.

Low-quality versions of the clip traveled the web, but ComicBook.com just posted a decent video for fans to watch before the movie opens on April 27.

The clip shows how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) ends up meeting Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the Guardians of the Galaxy. As usual, Drax (Dave Bautista) steals the whole thing.

Peter Quill/Star-Lord: “How is this dude still alive?”

Drax: “He is not a dude. You’re a dude. This? This is a man. A handsome, muscular man.”

Well, at least Drax doesn’t think Thor is “hideous,” unlike someone we know…

Check out the clip (if it’s still up):Ah, jealous Star-Lord. This scene probably plays out just after Star-Lord tells Teen Groot to get off his device, and Groot back-talks him.

And check out the latest TV spot from Marvel itself, with a lot of recycled footage but a few new shots:Don’t worry about all of the clips spoiling the movie; “Infinity War” is long enough and has enough going on that they are surely saving some major surprises for the theatrical release.

“Avengers 3” opens Friday, April 27.

  • ‘Avengers: Infinity War’: Tony Stark & Star-Lord Scenes Are Like ‘Spontaneous Combustion’

There are nine million Marvel characters in “Avengers: Infinity War,” but only one Tony Stark. Put Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) across from anyone and sparks will fly, but Star-Lord (Chris Pratt)? Can the universe even handle that much awesome? We can’t wait to see for ourselves.

Dave Bautista has already seen it first-hand, and he shared his own gushing fanboy reaction with Yahoo. Bautista is currently promoting his new movie “Bushwick,” but since he’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and the Guardians will be in “Avengers: Infinity War,” he’s also answering all sorts of “Avengers” questions.

Bautista told Yahoo he has a lot of interaction with Chris Pratt and Pom Klementieff (Mantis) in “Infinity War,” saying it’s always great when they let him play the straight man to Pratt’s humor. “When we said something funny, [the directors, the Russo brothers] would come in after the take and go, ‘What was that you said? Say that again!’ They were really excited about it.”

That segued into a talk about Tony Stark, so here’s that part of the Q&A:

Robert Downey Jr., of course, is noted for improvising many of Tony Stark’s funniest moments as well. Did you get to riff with him?
We do. I’m excited about some of the stuff we did, but I don’t know what’s going to make it in the film. I always thought there would be a lot of good interaction between Tony Stark and Drax, and there was. And Star-Lord and Tony Stark as well. When you put those two guys in a room together, it’s like a spontaneous combustion. Talk about two talented guys who are so witty and smart and honed-in on their craft. It was a spectacle, and I’m so excited I got to witness it firsthand.

Sounds like Chris Hemsworth may have some competition in his bromance with Chris Pratt.

Then again, Bautista is most sweet on RDJ (as we should all be). He gushed more about the Iron Man star in a talk with Entertainment Weekly, saying Downey approached him long before it was even announced that the Guardians would be joining the Avengers movies:

“He went out of his way to come up, and compliment me about my performance in [the first] Guardians, which was something special to me, especially at that point, where I was just starting my career. He literally went out of his way to come up, and tell me how much he loved my performance, and loved Guardians of the Galaxy, and that meant the world to me. It put me at ease with him. Those are were my best memories, on the set of Avengers, was working with him, because I looked up to him for so many years as a performer.”

Sounds like a total love-fest on all sides. “Avengers: Infinity War” opens May 4th, 2018.

  • ‘Shredded’ Josh Brolin Inspired Dave Bautista to Get Jacked for ‘Avengers 4’

Disney's D23 EXPO 2017Josh Brolin‘s insane physical transformation for his role as Cable in “Deadpool 2” grabbed lots of attention when the actor — who pulls double Marvel duty as Thanos in the traditional MCU flicks — debuted his new bod on social media this summer. Fellow MCU star Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, was among those impressed by Brolin’s physique — so much so, in fact, that he’s pledged to get himself in even better shape by the time the two start working together on the fourth “Avengers” flick this fall.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista admitted that he didn’t even recognize his pal when Brolin approached him at the gym a couple months ago (Brolin alluded to this encounter in his original Instagram post depicting his Cable workout), so significant was the latter actor’s metamorphosis.

“He is not only jacked, but he is shredded,” Bautista told THR of Brolin. “His face is all sunken in like a model. He is like a completely different person.”

Bautista knows a thing or two about getting jacked, thanks to his past as a semi-professional wrestler, but the buff actor said he was pretty intimidated by Brolin’s appearance — and it’s given him some serious workout motivation.

“I am known for being in shape and being a big guy, and he actually made me self-conscious!” Bautista told the trade. “I swear to God, I promised him that in November, when I do some work on ‘[Avengers] 4,’ I told him, ‘I will be in better shape for that because you make me self-conscious, f*cker!’”

Look for an even-more-jacked Bautista alongside Brolin when “Avengers 4” — a.k.a. “Infinity War Part II” — hits theaters in May 2019.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Star Pom Klementieff on Fulfilling Her Dream of Becoming a Weird Alien Superhero

Sure, James Gunn‘s wildly entertaining (and just plain wild) “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” features all of your favorite cast members, returning for a second go around (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, the list goes on). But there are also a bunch of instantly engaging new characters, among them Ego (Kurt Russell), the living planet father of Pratt’s Star-Lord (don’t ask) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Ego’s right-hand (or is it right-pincher?) woman.

Klementieff, a beautiful and otherworldly-looking French actress, gives Mantis a childlike sense of playfulness and hidden vulnerability. She also gets some of the movie’s very best lines. One of her powers is that she is empathic, meaning she can pick up on what people are feeling and sense certain psychic vibrations before they ever manifest themselves. That means her performance’s power lies in the moments when she’s saying some of Gunn’s pithy dialogue and when she’s being perfectly still, staring out from behind her giant, contact lens-covered eyes.

I recently got to sit down with a much less buggy Klementieff in Los Angeles to talk about achieving the look of Mantis, how scared she was to work with different directors on “Avengers: Infinity War,” and what it’s like being the newest Guardian of the frickin’ Galaxy (only we didn’t use “frickin’”).

Moviefone: The last time I saw you was on the set of the movie, more than a year ago. You had the green dots on your forehead. When you finally saw what Mantis looked like, what was your reaction?

Klementieff: Oh, it was incredible. On set, the guys who did the CGI, who are incredible by the way, they came to set and they showed me on the computer how it would look; all the evolution.

Did they show you your eyes?

Not my eyes, because my eyes were contact lenses.

    That was you?

Yeah, it’s my eyes! And with the make-up, it makes my eyes look bigger. James wanted Mantis to look bug-like. At some point, they talked about making my eyes bigger in the computer but I’m thankful that they didn’t.

So you had an idea of what you would look like?

Yes. And then, of course, and when the first trailer came out that was when I saw it completely finished. With the light it’s so cute and the detail — it’s so feathery and moving. It’s so cute!

Obviously, the cast had already made one movie together. Was it intimidating to join that group?

At first, yes. I didn’t know what to expect. You don’t know these people. So maybe there’s going to be some annoying people. But no! No no no! The first time I met them was at the table read and I was like, “Hi I’m the new one and I’m French.” I was kind of freaking out during the reading. But they were all so welcoming. Chris Pratt is the nicest person, I’m sure you know that. Dave is such a gentleman and so sweet and amazing. Zoe is amazing. And Karen Gillan is my friend now and she’s so cool. I really had an amazing time. Sean Gunn, also, who [stands in for] Rocket on set, and he’s an incredible actor, too.And you get to hang out with Kurt Russell, too.

Yes! Yes of course! He wasn’t at the table read, but I had such an incredible time with him. He’s so cool and down-to-Earth and funny, and I asked him so many questions about his past movies because, of course, because he is a legend. He would tell me stories and I’d say, “Oh really?” But he’s so normal. He’s the best.

Are you a fan of comic books? Did you know about this character before you signed on?

To be honest, I don’t really read comic books. But I loved the Marvel movies. It was my dream to one day be in a Marvel movie. It was my dream to have superpowers and, actually, to be an alien I thought would be so cool. When I got the part it was like, Is this really happening? We had the premiere yesterday and it was surreal. I’m just pinching myself. Is this real life?

What was the reaction to your character last night?

People loved her. A lot of people came up to me and said, “Can I get your picture? I loved your character.” So I was like, yay! This is so cool!

You have a lot of scenes with Dave Bautista, who plays Drax. Did he give you any pointers or talk you through that?

No. He’s not an actor. It’s just simple. I’m not like “let’s talk about the character,” either. You just listen to each other and you do the scene and you just have to try and have fun. You’re just sincere. It’s just about being sincere. That’s it.

I imagine that, between the make-up and the spaceships and everything, it’s easier to get into character, too.

Well, there isn’t that much make-up, actually. There’s beauty make-up. They did an amazing job, it’s not like it’s easy for the make-up artists. But there’s some prosthetics and they made it look like my skin with the beginning of the antennae. And with CGI they add the antennae. Of course they did amazing make-up with the big eyelashes but for me it wasn’t a huge amount of make-up. Of course when I looked at myself in the mirror, with the big contact lenses, it was like, “Okay, this is weird.” The contact lenses are the biggest contact lenses because they block out your whole eye. So you have a weird tunnel vision. There was actually a guy whose job it was to eye drops in my eyes every 15 minutes. He has to turn them and pop them to let your eyes breathe.

    Was it uncomfortable?

Yes, it was uncomfortable. It’s not nice. But, at the same time, the character is uncomfortable, too, so why not? It’s not like she feels so amazing in her own skin. No.

    You are a Guardian now.

Yeah! It’s crazy right? I’m a Guardian of the Galaxy! It’s a full-time job! And I’m so excited that James Gunn is going to write and direct the third movie. Someone else directing it? No. He’s such a genius and he has such a vision. Can you imagine someone else directing that? But you have someone else directing you in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Yes, but I was so scared of that, too! James said, “You know you can call me whenever.” And I called him. But they [the Russo Brothers] are great, too. At first it was like, I don’t know if I can play this character with someone else. It went well!

In that your character will be interacting with others from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Did you really feel like a superhero?

It was incredible, to see all of these franchises together on set was really crazy.

Can you talk about initially landing the role?

Well, I did an audition with the casting director, who is amazing. Then I had a callback with her and James. And I had a screen test with Dave as Drax, in full make-up. But at the time, I had on different make-up, they tried some different stuff. I had a different skin color.

    What color?

It’s a Marvel secret. You want a scoop right? [Editor’s note: Bautista told me. She was orange.]

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is out now (in every corner of the galaxy).

  • Dave Bautista Drove to Disneyland Just to See His Unfinished ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Ride

It’s hard to pinpoint a breakout star from the first “Guardians of the Galaxy,” because everybody was pretty much a breakout star. But there’s a strong argument that Dave Bautista, who played strongman Drax (initially hell-bent on revenge before accepting his more altruistic place as one of the universe’s primary defenders), made the biggest impression. At turns heartbreaking and hilarious, Bautista delivered his lines with deadpan delicacy, each one landing with a combination of humor and emotion. For such a big, burly guy, he was instantly lovable and a big part of why that combination of actors worked so well.

So you’ll be happy to hear that Drax takes an even bigger slice of the spotlight in writer-director James Gunn‘s sequel, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” opening this Friday. The sequel is bigger, weirder, funnier, and more emotional, and Drax takes on a larger role, acting as the comedic foil for newest Guardian Mantis (played with beautiful oddness by Pom Klementieff) and delving deeper into his own tragic backstory. Plus he’s even more hilarious this time around.

I got to chat with Bautista in Los Angeles, about what it was like coming back for round two, the hilarious moment that was cut from the movie, what it’s like being a part of a Disneyland ride, and how excited he is about working with Robert Downey, Jr. in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Moviefone: How does it feel to be back for “Vol. 2?”

Dave Bautista: Well, we signed on well before the second one was even announced. It was so weird because before the first one was even released, they were already announcing the second one, because they had so much faith. And it’s the same thing here; they’re already announcing the third film before the second one opens.

Well, when did you know that you guys had really hit on something?

After opening weekend. I felt that it was really special. I’d seen it and I was obviously there filming it and I always thought it was great. But I get anxiety, too, so there’s always that bit of insecurity, because you really never know until people go see it.

I think people are going to be surprised by how funny Drax is in this movie, but also how emotional he is. Was it fun to play these different sides of the character?

Oh yeah, it’s great. I don’t find myself very funny at all. I’m a very dry person and soft spoken and a man of few words. That’s always a stretch for me. So the dramatic parts are actually one of my strengths, I think. I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve and I’ve always been able to bring out emotional scenes. But the comedy thing, I’m very happy with, because I didn’t know they’d go that way.

    You’re really funny!

Well, thank you. It’s so funny because we improved a lot, so a lot of the outtakes they used for the trailers, they’re not even in the movie. And that shows you just how funny that stuff was and how much fun it was to shoot.

Was there anything you wanted to explore with the character that you were pushing for?

Yes, and it’s still the same thing, because there was stuff that was edited out of the first one because of the tone of the movie. And that was really exploring his family. I’d even love for audiences to have a visual of what his family looked like.

    Did you shoot that stuff?

No, but we shot a scene where he’s explaining all of his tattoos and what they meant. It was the story of his life. They couldn’t use the scene for one because it didn’t fit the pace of the film, it slowed things down a lot and was just too deep and depressing. That first movie had to be really fun to introduce these characters. So we filmed that and we’ve talked more and more about his family and who they would be and even physically what they would look like. We’ve decided Drax’s wife would be a rather large woman, which I think is brilliant. I think Drax would love being with a very large woman.

Well, with James Gunn coming back to do the third one …

You never know! Can you talk a little bit about working with Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis?

Well Pom and I, we screen-tested together, when she was testing for Mantis. And right off the bat we had great chemistry. Her emotional range is ridiculous, I’m a little bit envious. She can bring it, man. She can bring the deadpan humor and when she wants to turn on her emotions, she had access to it, and it’s amazing. There’s also that quirkiness to her, with her high-pitched voice and her accent Asian looks. She’s just so perfect for Mantis. We had a lot of fun filming, because some of our takes I wish had made it into the film because they were just so ridiculously funny.

Is there one that you loved particularly?

There’s a part where I’m dry heaving because I’m looking at her. So I start dry heaving and then she is dry heaving and it was just hysterical. Everybody on set was dying. Because my dry heaving was really big and hers was little and cute and we’re just looking at each other dry heaving. It was so funny.

She said she was a different color when you guys did your screen test.

I think it was like an orange.

I though they’d done something digitally to her eyes.

Yeah, those were just big-ass contacts. I felt sorry for her. And I can relate. Those contacts are really uncomfortable and she had them in every day. But it’s so crazy that they just turned her into an insect. She does so many little things. I don’t know how many people pick up on this but she’s constantly rubbing her hands like a mantis.

Speaking of make-up, did you streamline your process at all?

Yeah. I didn’t but the team did. It was down from typically four hours to a bad day an hour-and-a-half. They usually knocked it out in an hour, an hour-and-ten. And it looks so much better.

And now you’re part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Avengers: Infinity War.” How do you feel about that?

I feel great! I know I’m going to be employed for the next few years! But also I’ve been saying, even way back, that I was hoping there would be some kind of crossover. Because I was a fan first before I had a part in “Guardians.” I loved “The Avengers.” And I wanted that crossover to happen. I wanted to work with Robert Downey, Jr. Just because I was such a fan.

Did it live up to your expectations?

Oh yes, and then some. I met Robert Downey Jr., even before we were announced to go on “Avengers” and do the crossover, at the London premiere of the second “Avengers.” And he went out of his way to come over and was so nice and gracious about “Guardians of the Galaxy” and how much he loved it. I thought, Oh man, I love this guy.

Without giving anything away, is there a character from the MCU that you’re particularly excited about Drax interacting with?

No, I couldn’t say without giving anything away.

    Do little kids recognize you?

Nope. Believe it or not. Usually parents will recognize me and they’ll tell the kids, “Do you know who that is?” But no, I don’t get a lot of facial recognition … maybe if I was green and walked around shirtless all the time.

You’re about to be in a Disney ride, too. What can you say about that?

I’m super excited. Like, that’s the kind of stuff that excites me. Being a part of action figures and video games and amusement rides. That’s what really gets me excited. And I actually drove down there just to look at it. It’s not finished. But people were sending me pictures over social media. Some of them weren’t too happy about it. There were a few protestors. But I get it. I know they love their nostalgia and I do as well. But it’s great. I hope to be there the day they open it.

James Gunn shot the ride film, too, right?

Yeah, we shot all of that on set while were shooting the movie, the whole breakout and everything.I loved you in the James Bond movie, “Spectre.” We didn’t see you die. Is there any chance of you coming back?

There’s a great chance of me coming back. We’re holding our breath. We’re waiting to hear, for one, if Daniel Craig is coming back. Because if he’s not coming back, and this is just my idea, I think they’d completely reboot the franchise and start fresh. But if he did come back, I hope that they’d continue the Blofeld storyline, because they left it open-ended. I feel like Bond 25 is just Bond and Blofeld going at it.

Maybe you could be scarred up.

Or not. I feel like Hinx is indestructible, like The Terminator.

  • Dave Bautista of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Reveals His Celebrity Dream Dad

Dave Bautista from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and "dream dad" Ryan Gosling
Dave Bautista from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and “dream dad” Ryan Gosling

One of the running jokes in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” centers on Chris Pratt‘s fantasies of a celebrity father, a certain 1980s TV star who makes hilariously bizarre cameos in the Marvel space adventure.

So when Made in Hollywood reporter Kylie Erica Mar sat down with “Galaxy 2” star Dave Bautista, she had to ask the pro-wrestler-turned-actor who he’d want for a famous father.

“I’m going to say this because I have a bit of a man crush,” says Bautista, who plays the socially awkward Drax the Destroyer. “I’m going to go with Ryan Gosling.”

At age 36, Gosling is a dozen years younger than the 48-year-old Bautista. But no matter. It’s a fantasy dad — plus Bautista knows him well, working with Gosling on the sequel to “Blade Runner.”

“I love this guy,” Bautista says. “I love everything about him. I’m going to start calling him dad.”

  • 17 Things We Learned on the Set of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Last year, Moviefone and a group of other reporters headed to Atlanta to visit the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” in an attempt to get as much information as we possibly could about the upcoming Marvel sequel.

If you know anything about Marvel, then you know they were pretty tight-lipped about a lot of things. What they did give us, however, has us so excited for the movie that we can barely contain ourselves. Is it May 5th yet?

Here are 17 things we learned on the set of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

    1. Since the last movie, the Guardians have been attempting to be heroes.

“They are available for do-gooding, so to speak. It doesn’t always go well, but they try,” Marvel president Kevin Feige told us. “And when we first meet them at the beginning of the movie, they’re in a place called Sovereign, where they’ve been asked to deal with this giant beast that eats their power source and wreaks havoc on the planet.”

    2. There’s more action, which means more stunts.

“The stunts here are much more defined and they’ve been a lot more challenging, so I’ve been having fun,” Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, said. “Especially after popping twins like 17 months ago. The fact that I can get on wires and be lifted 30 feet up in the air at full speed, or just be dropped and land on heels, I love that they’re trusting me with this.”

    3. The Ravagers aren’t going anywhere.

“The Ravagers have a bigger part in this movie,” Feige revealed.

    4. Yondu’s soft spot for Quill gets him in trouble.

“There is an incident in the first act of this movie where [the Ravagers] have been hired to get Quill, but, yet again, Yondu is like: ‘We’re not gonna take down the Guardians of the Galaxy, we’d be crazy to do that.” But Taserface and some others are like ‘Bullsh*t, you’re just doing that because you’re soft on Quill,’ and it leads to a mutiny,” Feige said.

    5. Yondu gets a bigger fin!

“Yondu’s fin has a big thing to do with the Ravager’s more present role in this movie,” writer and director James Gunn told us.6. We learn why Quill could hold the Infinity Stone.

“There’s a question as to why Star-Lord was able to hold the Infinity Stone and not be completely and immediately destroyed, and we learn a little bit more about why that’s the case in this movie,” Gunn revealed.

    7. Be on the lookout for even more Easter eggs.

Gunn love his Easter eggs. “Our Easter egg obsession is insane,” he said. “In fact, we have so many obscure Easter eggs in this movie that it’s ridiculous.”

    8. It doesn’t exactly tie in with everything else going on in the MCU.

“The way this film ends will inform future things, but there’s nothing that nods directly towards it,” Feige revealed.

    9. Nebula is still having a rough life.

“We realize that the payment for the mission the Guardians have done on Sovereign is to get Nebula,” Feige said. “The Sovereign has captured her and are exchanging her for their services.”10. Nebula and Gamora get closer, but not that close.

“[Nebula’s] on a mission to find Gamora and rectify a few things there,” Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, said. “And we’re going to find out a lot about their backstory and learn a lot about Thanos’s parenting skills, and maybe how dysfunctional the entire thing is. So we’re gonna chip away at those layers, which is really fun.”

“Through their relationship, you get a closer idea of what Thanos is really about,” Saldana added.

    11. Nebula hangs out with all the Guardians.

“Her main focus is Gamora, but she finds herself with all of them and I think she’s unimpressed by Rocket,” Gillan said. “She doesn’t know what he is as an animal. She doesn’t understand him.”

    12. Quill and Gamora explore their relationship.

“They’re becoming a really good team in the way that oil and vinegar are, where it’s good together, but they tend to stick to their own things,” Saldana told us. “I think Peter may have gotten a little more annoying, and Gamora is a little too rigid sometimes. So, through the dynamics that are happening around her, she learns to relax.”13. Mantis brings a whole new dynamic to the group.

“She’s an alien, and she’s spent her life with Kurt Russell‘s character, Ego. She was pretty lonely and then she meets the Guardians. She has empathic powers, so it’s connected with her feelings and emotions. She can change other people’s emotions,” Pom Klementieff, who portrays Mantis, explained.
