    %Slideshow-348587%
Got some downtime over the holidays? It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with all that TV you missed, like Marvel’s “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.”

Exactly how much time do you need? We’ve organized these great TV shows on Netflix streaming by how long it’ll take you to get through a season (or, in some cases, like “Sherlock,” 2 or 3 whole seasons!)

Take your pick from several great crime dramas (most of them British — the UK excels at delivering great drama in concentrated doses), comedies from Aziz Ansari and Tina Fey, and cool sci-fi series like “Black Mirror.”

  • These Are the 10 Most Toxic Superheroes of 2015: Click If You Dare

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s … Cybercrime! Maybe computer hacking isn’t the most exciting supervillain power, but it is quite damaging. The folks at Intel Security just released their 2015 list of “Most Toxic Superheroes” — timed for San Diego Comic-Con, when more people are searching online about superhero movies/shows/characters.

    As Intel noted:

Research conducted by Intel Security revealed the top superheroes most likely to be targeted by cybercriminals where these searches can result in sites containing viruses, malware and other inappropriate content.”

The top 10 superheroes most likely to affect online users this year are:

    1. Aquaman — 20.00%
    2. Iron Fist — 19.69%
    3. Wolverine — 19.58.%
    4. Wonder Woman — 19.38%
    5. Doctor Strange — 19.17%
    6. Daredevil — 18.96%
    7. Tie: The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man — 18.85%
    8. Catwoman — 18.65%
    9. Green Lantern — 18.44%
    10. Batman — 18.33%

This is apparently Aquaman’s return to the #1 spot, where he first landed in 2013. He doesn’t get the superhero spotlight that often so … in a way, this is good for his ego. Congrats, man.

FYI, the percentage indicates chance of landing on a website that has tested positive for online threats such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses or other malware. Be careful out there!

  • Ben Affleck Admits That ‘Daredevil’ ‘Didn’t Work’

Daredevil Movie SetDaredevil” is one of the most derided superhero movies of all time, and apparently, its star agrees with that criticism.

Ben Affleck, who’s playing a more high-profile hero in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” told Entertainment Weekly that director Zack Snyder‘s dark vision for that flick is much more advanced than the thinking that went into the production of 2003’s “Daredevil.”

“‘Daredevil’ didn’t work, at all. If I wanted to go viral I would be less polite,” Affleck told EW. “That was before people realized you could make these movies and make them well. There was a cynical sense of ‘Put a red leather outfit on a guy, have him run around, hunt some bad guys, and cash the check.’”

Those are some harsh words, but Affleck isn’t exactly wrong. As EW points out, there seems to be a line in the sand that was drawn by Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy, proving that a superhero movie could also be just a quality movie, period. And “Daredevil” and “Green Lantern” and all those failed “Hulk” movies certainly seem to fit the bill of cash-grab projects.

Affleck’s honest admission about “Daredevil” gives us hope that he’s right about his high praise for “Batman v Superman” (“They really learned how to make this stuff work,” he told EW). We’ll find out for ourselves early next year.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is due in theaters on March 25, 2016.

  • Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Adds Audio Descriptions for the Visually Impaired

    Daredevil, Netflix
Netflix, in an effort to be more inclusive of visually impaired television fans, has introduced a feature to add audio descriptions to its original programming, beginning with new Marvel series “Daredevil.”

In a blog post, Tracy Wright, the director of content operations at Netflix, explained that the streaming service wanted to increase its accessibility for all viewers, and that now includes the visually impaired. Netflix’s decision to begin this process with “Daredevil” is especially significant, since the show’s protagonist, Matt Murdock, is blind, and the comics starring the superhero are especially popular in the visually impaired community.

“Audio description is a narration track that describes what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes,” Wright explained in her blog post. “Customers can choose audio narration just like choosing the soundtrack in a different language.”

Entertainment Weekly tried out the feature, and it’s quite detailed, with “a voice describing the action in between dialogue” that “picks up right from the start, even explaining how the Netflix logo appears – ‘Letters pop out from a white background, then turn red. Netflix,’ a voice says.”

So far, the option is only available in English and in select territories, though Netflix is working to expand it into other languages and locations. And it will soon be available on other Netflix exclusive titles, including “Orange Is the New Black,” “House of Cards,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and “Marco Polo.”

“Over time, we expect audio description to be available for major Netflix original series, as well as select other shows and movies,” Wright wrote. “We are working with studios and other content owners to increase the amount of audio description across a range of devices including smart TVs, tablets and smartphones.”

  • The 15 Greatest Live-Action Superheroes in TV History

    %Slideshow-276358%
When the new “Daredevil” series debuts on Netflix on April 10, blind hero Matt Murdock will be enterting relatively uncharted territory. After all, at the multiplex, you can’t hurl a hunk of Kryptonite without hitting a superhero movie, but on TV, live-action comic book heroes have been scarce. Maybe that’s because the small screen does what few supervillains can do: make superheroes look… well, small.

In the Saturday morning cartoons, at least, superheroes always look pretty much like they do in the comic books. But the live-action version is often just a guy or gal in tights, suspended on wires. For most of its history, TV had neither the money, nor the effects prowess, nor the prestige to cast top-notch thespians as superheroes, much less to make them look convincingly like people with superpowers having earth-shaking adventures. As a result, most live-action TV superheroes, even the ones you loved as a kid, look more than a little campy now.

But all that has changed in recent years. Both Marvel and DC have taken their TV superhero franchises very seriously, with each creating a coherent universe full of big-budget, skillfully-acted primetime TV dramas that appeal to comic-book geeks and casual fans alike. It helps that Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter” tie into the enormously popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (the series of inter-related theatrical movies dominated by the “Avengers” characters), but DC’s shows (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Gotham”) may be just as good, if not better.

“Daredevil,” starring Charlie Cox (“Boardwalk Empire”) as the Marvel hero with four heightened senses, takes the Marvel-DC rivalry to the next level. Not only must the show succeed among Netflix binge-viewers, but it also must introduce a new set of interlocking Marvel series that will debut over the next several months on the streaming platform. Not only that, but Cox must also banish the specter of Ben Affleck’s big-screen “Daredevil” flop from a decade ago. Can Cox’s Daredevil take his place among the small, elite group of favorite live-action TV superheroes? Read the following ranked list, and see where you think “Daredevil” belongs.

  • Here’s Vincent D’Onofrio as ‘Daredevil’ Villain Kingpin (PHOTO)

Kingpin, Vincent D'Onofrio, Daredevil, MarvelWe finally have our first look at Daredevil” villain Kingpin on the upcoming Netflix series, and the actor appears every bit as menacing as you’d hoped.

The image features D’Onofrio’s bald baddie in a slick black suit and matching monochrome shirt, looking all-business as he’s no doubt about to crack some skulls (check out the full photo at the end of this post). Kingpin in the alter ego of Wilson Fisk, who spars with Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) over what’s best for the citys. The complete character description:

The shadowy figure behind organized crime in Hell’s Kitchen, Wilson Fisk has one mission in mind: to save Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter the cost. This immediately puts him at odds with Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) vigilante alter-ego, who also seeks to protect the city – but sees the criminal element as the root of the city’s problems. Central to this conflict is that Fisk truly believes he’s doing good for Hell’s Kitchen and at times may seem more of a hero to its people than Daredevil. Intelligent, complex and physically imposing, Wilson Fisk is the perfect foil for Matt Murdock, and the two will collide dramatically in “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

The rest of the cast includes Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Vondie Curtis Hall (Ben Ulrich), Scott Glenn (Stick), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Marianna), Bob Gunton (Leland Owlsey), and and Toby Leonard Moore (Wesley).

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is set to debut its entire 13-episode first season on Netflix on April 10 at 12:01 a.m. PST.
