Chris Pratt is the guy you want in your movie. (Just ask The Rock.)

Fans may have blamed his Star-Lord for what happened in “Avengers: Infinity War,” but between “Infinity War” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Pratt pretty much owned the 2018 box office.

And yet, he doesn’t have much coming up. He’ll return in “Avengers 4” in May, and his indie Western “The Kid” is in post-production.

But he was supposed to be filming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” starting in early 2019. Now … Disney/Marvel has to find a new director willing to drink from that poisoned chalice.

Pratt was also supposed to be making the potential tentpole “Cowboy Ninja Viking,” but Universal pulled that from its June 28, 2019 release date.

So that’s two major films down. But he may have found a replacement — and it sounds right up his rugged Manly Man alley.

Variety reports that Pratt is in talks to star in Taylor Sheridan‘s new film, with the working title “Fast.”

Sheridan would be writing and directing the film, which “follows a former special forces commando (Pratt), who’s recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team targeting drug dealers who are protected by the CIA.”

It’s not the most exciting or original premise, but the people involved give us some hope.

Sheridan made a name for himself writing “Sicario,” and then “Hell or High Water,” which was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. He made his directorial debut with “Wind River” (starring two other Avengers), which he also wrote. And he’s the writer/director/producer behind “Yellowstone,” starring Kevin Costner, which turned out to be cable’s biggest hit since “The Walking Dead.”

According to Variety, “Fast” — or whatever it is ultimately called — has a budget in the $70 million to $80 million range, so studio Warner Bros. needed a star in order to give it the green light. Now it looks like they have Chris Pratt.

Pratt also has a voice role in “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” And he’s going to be filming his third “Jurassic World” movie in the next year or so for its planned 2021 release.

  • Chris Pratt’s ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ Pulled From Schedule, Delayed Indefinitely: Report

Chris Pratt’s ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ Pulled From Schedule, Delayed Indefinitely: Report

    Universal

Bad news for fans hoping to see Chris Pratt kick some more big screen butt next summer: Universal has reportedly pulled its upcoming action flick “Cowboy Ninja Viking” from next year’s release schedule, and the film has been delayed indefinitely.

That’s the word from Collider, which cites sources who say that the film — originally slated to debut smack dab in the middle of summer movie season on June 28, 2019 — was in pre-production when the studio abruptly “stopped discussions with potential supporting cast.” According to Collider’s sources, Universal “wasn’t eager to rush to meet a release date, given that it has franchise hopes for the property.”

That’s kind of an odd explanation (this movie is going to be huge, so let’s delay it!), making us wonder if there was something else going on behind the scenes. Maybe the script needed work, or director Michelle MacLaren (who was to make her feature directorial debut) needed more time to prep for the shoot? Collider suggests that maybe it has to do with the fact that Pratt isn’t as bankable of a star as he once was (his presence in the MCU notwithstanding), citing the less-than-expected box office haul of “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and the disappointing “Passengers.”

It’s possible that Universal simply wanted to take a beat on investing in another big project — especially one with the potential to become more expensive down the road. But where does that leave the film now?

Collider says that the studio “will re-date the project at a later time,” and also notes that Priyanka Chopra, who had just been cast as the film’s female lead, remains the top choice for the part, whenever production resumes. Pratt will also stay on board, to both star and produce.

Now we just have to wait and see if Universal plans to continue development at all. Stay tuned.

Apparently the chemistry test between Priyanka Chopra and Chris Pratt went “extremely well” — Variety‘s words — because she beat out a slew of hopefuls to join him in “Cowboy Ninja Viking.”

The action movie is being directed by Michelle MacLaren, based on the Image Comics graphic novel following an assassin named Duncan (played by Pratt) who manifests the toughest skills of three different personas — a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking.

According to Collider, Priyanka Chopra is in talks to play Sara Nix, “a psychologist who’s assigned to monitor Duncan, and who may or may not develop feelings for him despite the professional nature of their relationship.”

“Cowboy Ninja Viking” is now in pre-production, with Universal already giving the potential blockbuster a June 28, 2019, release date.

“Quantico” and “Baywatch” star Priyanka Chopra just dropped out of an Indian movie after (reportedly) getting engaged to Nick Jonas. Chris Pratt just joined the rest of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast to support James Gunn and try to get him reinstated to direct the third movie, which is still on the books for a 2020 release.
