  • Jesse Eisenberg Compares Comic-Con Experience to Genocide

Comic-Con International 2015 - Warner Bros. PresentationIn comments that he’ll no doubt attempt to clarify and and correct and ultimately apologize for a few days from now, actor Jesse Eisenberg somehow thought it was a good idea to compare his experience at Comic-Con to genocide.

The “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” star was reflecting on his first time at the fan convention when he told the Associated Press that sitting on a panel, surrounded by excited, adoring fans, was apparently too much for him.

“It is like being screamed at by thousands of people,” Eisenberg told the AP. “I don’t know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can’t think of anything that’s equivalent.”

We can’t fault the first portion of Eisenberg’s remarks, since that’s literally what happens at every Comic-Con panel at Hall H. But we’re not quite sure how or why the actor thinks screaming fans are equivalent to genocide. (CinemaBlend notes that perhaps he was going the method route, and will chalk up those comments to coming from his villainous “Batman v Superman” character, Lex Luthor. Only time will tell.)

After trashing the convention, we’re not sure if Eisenberg will ever want to go back (or will be allowed in, for that matter). But maybe he can take a cue from Bill Murray’s Comic-Con handbook for future reference?

  • ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ Characters, ‘Connected Universe’ Teased at Comic-Con 2015

Comic-Con International 2015 - "American Horror Story" And "Scream Queens" PanelIt’s confirmed: “American Horror Story” fans are going to want check in to “Hotel” and never check out.

We already knew “American Horror Story: Hotel” was shaping up to be a killer installment of the Emmy-winning FX anthology series, but after showrunner Ryan Murphy spilled a bunch of beans during the show’s panel at Comic-Con 2015 today, it’s clear that it’s also going to be a very satisfying trip for fans looking to revisit characters from series past.

“We have a long-term plan with the show. Things are connected,” Murphy revealed. “So characters are connected to different seasons. [Pepper] obviously is the first. This season you’ll see more and more of that. Characters from previous seasons will come back and check into the hotel. It’s part of a connected universe with a pretty cool thesis statement at the end of the run.”

Murphy also chatted about the buzziest addition to the “AHS: Hotel” cast, Lady Gaga, who wasn’t in attendance. But, sadly, those looking for the ostentatious performer to go full Gaga are in for some disappointment: She will NOT be singing. He explained that Gaga wrote to him as a fan of the show and asked if he would ever consider putting her on it. Her one stipulation? “I want to be evil.” Yes! The only other tidbit he served up was that her role involves fashion, adding “You want her to look a certain way.” Sounds like we’ll get a bit of the Gaga we already know and love, after all.

If you’re thinking that — outside of Gaga — “AHS: Hotel” is going to serve up more of the same (hey, it’s pretty much the same cast), think again. Murphy is still looking to make your jaw drop. After acknowledging that Sarah Paulson, who has starred in each iteration of “American Horror Story,” has survived every season so far, the showrunner admitted “We gotta change that right away … but not in the way that you might think.”

A twist on a death in AHS? We would have it any other way.

“American Horror Story: Hotel” premieres in October on FX. Additional reporting by Jessica Wedemeyer.

Every year when Comic-Con rolls around, one of the biggest things is the epic commitment people make to cosplaying. Some people paint their entire body, some people make their costumes out of literal metal, and some people turn it into a group affair.

Here are the most awesome cosplayers from 2015 Comic-Con.

  • SDCC: 6 Perfect Bill Murray Moments From His First Comic-Con

Comic-Con International 2015 - Open Road PanelBill Murray attended his first-ever Comic-Con on Thursday, and what the actor lacked in experience at the fan fest, he more than made up for in hilarious responses and general Bill Murray-ness (read: awesomeness).

Murray, who sat on a panel promoting his upcoming comedyRock the Kasbah,” charmed the audience with tales from his long and varied career and witty comebacks to routine questions. Below, we’ve collected some of our favorite moments from his appearance at SDCC (including a run-in with a certain hilarious-in-her-own-right Oscar winner and fellow SDCC panelist).

    – He revealed his Comic-Con breakfast of champions: “We started this morning with bagels and then some tequila.”

    – Asked which of his many roles is his favorite, he alludes to “Ghostbusters” (which is the correct answer, by the way): “Once upon a time, I did save the city of New York, and I had the coolest damn car to drive around Manhattan.”

    – Addressing the rumor that he was once up for the role of Han Solo in 1977’s “Star Wars,” Murray quips that he’s aiming for a part in the just-announced Han Solo spinoff flick: “I don’t know if I was up for the role of Han Solo, I don’t remember. But I am working out now in hopes of getting this new thing, though. Just a lot of swimming and pilates, and I’m really going to work hard at it.”

    – He pledged his love for Miley Cyrus, who he worked with on his upcoming, Sofia Coppola-directed Christmas special: “I’m gonna say this officially: Miley Cyrus is really f–king good. She can really sing. I thought she was a knucklehead, funny girl. She can really sing and she floored everybody. I don’t want to hear anymore bad rap for Miley Cyrus. … She’s a pro.”

    – Murray insisted that he’s not intimidating to work with — though he does have one odd on-set quirk: “I go to work with a knife strapped to my leg; it means people will know their lines.”

    – And finally, Murray bumped into none other than Jennifer Lawrence backstage, as he was leaving his “Rock the Kasbah” panel and she was headed to the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” panel, leaving fans of both with this wonderful photo of their meeting:

Here’s hoping Murray’s first Comic-Con will be his first of many.

  • SDCC: Watch the ‘Hunger Games’ Cast’s Mockingjay Whistle Fail

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2″ — even when they’re trying to whistle a tune from their own movie.

During the “Mockingjay” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, castmates Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth all tried — and adorably, hilariously failed — to replicate the series’s iconic Mockingjay whistle tone. But the trio, and the rest of their castmates on the panel, just could not nail the four-note melody, which was memorably used by Rue and Katniss in the first film, and brought back throughout the rest of the series as a Mockingjay rallying cry of sorts.

In video of the incident uploaded by Screen Crush, the actors all try numerous times to get the whistle down right, but to no avail. At one point, Hutcherson imitates crickets, which panel moderator Conan O’Brien joked was a frequent sound during his stand-up routines.

Hemsworth comes closest to whistling an actual song, but as X-Files” theme. Still in the science fiction genre, still not quite right.

Check out the hilarious video below, and try not to get too sad when you realize that this is the last “Hunger Games” panel at Comic-Con ever.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” hits theaters on November 20.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Boss Cancels Comic-Con 2015 Plans After Throat Surgery

Where’s Daryl Dixon with an emotional ugly cry when you need one? Robert Kirkman is the “The Walking Dead” comic book writer and AMC show executive producer, and also producer of the spinoff, “Fear the Walking Dead,” and he has a dozen other jobs. He was going to promote them all this week at Comic-Con 2015. He’s a SDCC staple — Norman Reedus (who is also in Kirkman’s upcoming movie “Air”) even called him “the God of Comic-Con.” But this deity is a little too mortal, and throat surgery is going to bench him from the many panels he was scheduled to speak at this week. Fans will truly be missing a lot of important insight without Kirkman’s voice.

Here’s the (surprisingly funny, especially toward the end) update from Robert Kirkman, posted July 7 to his Skybound site:

    People of Earth,

It is with tremendous regret that I must inform you that I will not be attending Comic-Con International in San Diego this year. I won’t be at the Skybound Comics panel in room 7AB on Thursday, 7/9, from 12-1pm or our Skybound Entertainment panel in room 6BCF from 3:30-4:30pm that same day. I won’t be at the WALKING DEAD or FEAR THE WALKING DEAD panels in Hall H Friday, which are taking place at 12pm and 1pm, respectively. I won’t be at the OUTCAST TV show panel in room 6DE on Saturday, 7/11, from 3-4pm. I won’t be signing at the Image Comics/Skybound – booth #2729. I won’t be at the Skybound Fifth Anniversary and AIR Premiere event. I won’t even be across the street at the Walker Stalker Fan Fest located at Petco Park, where you can get a hands on experience with OVERKILL’S THE WALKING DEAD ahead of its 2016 release. Unfortunately, after years and years of being healthier than my physique would indicate I had to have minor surgery on my throat. Nothing serious, but in the aftermath of such a fun experience, it comes with a brief duration of time where I’m unable to speak so all that pink business inside me can heal. As luck would have it, that period of time overlaps with Comic-Con.

This is the first Comic-Con I’m missing in well over a decade. While I’m bummed that I can’t be there, there’s nothing keeping you from enjoying all the fun events I mentioned above despite my absence. Have you seen Andrew Lincoln’s eyes up close? You don’t want to miss those! Don’t pass up the opportunity to ask both Patrick Fugit and Kim Dickens how much I enjoyed their performances in Gone Girl (hint, a lot). Believe me when I tell you the trailers we’re debuting for each of these three TV shows and Skybound’s first feature, AIR, are phenomenal and you’re definitely going to want to be among the first to see them. The Skybound booth is going to have all kinds of ridiculously awesome stuff at it, including a crossbow that fires littles foam darts. I’ve been terrorizing people around the office with it for months.

I plan on making my triumphant Comic-Con return next year, you’ve been warned. Until then I’ll just be catching up on work and eating a lot of ice cream. So go to a panel, buy an overpriced hotdog, and think of me when you’re buying Transformer toys. I wish you all a fun and safe Comic-Con. Someone please be sure to bootleg the Deadpool trailer for me!

    -Robert Kirkman

There you go — you have your marching orders: Bootleg the “Deadpool” trailer for “The Walking Dead” creator, since he won’t be there in person. Also, the big “Walking Dead” Season 6 trailer will be released this Friday, July 10 during the TWD panel; after it premieres, we should all tweet Kirkman with questions about it, since he seems to have some free time. Get well soon, man!
