    ‘SNL’ Star Colin Jost Joins Live-Action ‘Tom and Jerry’

    The latest live-action reboot of a familiar animated property, classic cartoon “Tom and Jerry,” is shoring up its cast, with a TV star joining the ensemble.

    Colin Jost — who’s known to “Saturday Night Live” fans as one of the show’s longtime co-head writers and the co-host of its Weekend Update segment (and known to “Avengers” fans as Scarlett Johansson’s finance) — has signed on for the big screen version of “Tom and Jerry.” Deadline first reported the news, though there are no details yet about what role the comedian will be playing, and whether it will be a live-action character, or animated like the titular cat and mouse.

    Jost joins the previously-cast Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael Pena. The flick follows Kayla (Moretz), a new hire at a posh hotel, who enlists the help of Tom the cat to get rid of Jerry the mouse. She eventually ends up banding together with both critters, however, against her bully of a manager, Terrance (Pena).

    Tim Story (“Ride Along,” “Fantastic Four,” “Think Like a Man,” “Shaft“) is directing and executive producing the feature. No word yet on a potential release date, but “Tom and Jerry” is expected to start shooting sometime later this year.

    “Saturday Night Live’s” Michael Che and Colin Jost are moving from behind the “Weekend Update” desk into the Wrestlemania ring.

    Earlier this month, the duo appeared on WWE’s “Monday Night Raw,” where Jost started a feud with wrestler Braun Strowman. They were also announced as “special guest correspondents” for WrestleMania 35 on April 7.

    But, as it turns out, Jost and Che will actually get physical and compete in the ring.

    During “Monday Night Raw” this week, Jost and Che appeared via video chat to work out their problems with Strowman, but Jost ended up getting them involved in Wrestlemania’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

    Can the hosts still do “Weekend Update” after getting their heads crushed? Guess we’ll find out!

  • Colin Jost Reacts to Scarlett Johansson Romance Reports: ‘I’m Very Happy’

    “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson were spotted making out at an SNL afterparty in May, but sources told E! News they have been hooking up since she hosted SNL back in March. And a “spy” spotted the new couple out together this past Saturday night on the Upper East Side. “They were really chill and super nice,” the spy told Page Six. “They were holding hands and having drinks.”

    Colin Jost is a smart guy, so he’s not likely to say anything that would ruin a good thing. Instead, he’s in “light-hearted deflection” mode, as evidenced when E! News talked to him at the Hilarity for Charity’s Third Annual New York City Variety Show. The reporter felt compelled to ask him about the romance rumors.

    E!: “I just have to ask: Anything you want to set straight about your personal life?”

    Colin Jost [laughing]: “No, no, I’m very happy.”

    E!: “OK, you know there’s rumors and reports…”

    Jost: “What?! No way,” he joked.

    E!: “Anything you want to set straight?”

    Jost: “No, I’m good.”

    People also tried to get him to say something on the rumors, but he deflected by saying, “I don’t really pay attention to it, I just kinda keep doing my life as much as I can. It’s nice to have some time off now and just get to relax.”

    SNL isn’t going to return until this fall, so Jost does have some free time to relax (and go out for more drinks). Meanwhile, Johansson’s new movie “Rough Night” opens June 16.

  • Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost Spotted Making Out, and the Internet Is Taking It Well

    Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost may never become a serious couple, but there’s already a nauseatingly perfect nickname waiting for them: ScarJost.

    Johansson brought her Ivanka Trump impression back to “Saturday Night Live” for the May 20 season finale cold open, and stayed for the big afterparty. That’s when she reportedly hit it off with “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost, for some very visible PDA.

    “Multiple sources” confirmed the hookup to Page Six:

    A witness told Page Six, “Scarlett and Colin were making out at the bar at the ‘SNL’ season finale party at 30 Rock . . . They would make out a bit, then go back to talking,” says the source. “They were at the bar in front of everyone . . . they made out at least twice . . . Then they went back to talking and hanging with other people.”

    Another source confirmed, “Scarlett and Colin were flirting and canoodling in full view of everyone at the afterparty, including the ‘SNL’ cast and crew. They were laughing and seemed to really hit it off.”

    You know you should mind your own business when you find yourself staring at another couple kissing and later report “canoodling” to a gossip site. Anyway, they are both apparently single, so why not? Johansson filed for divorce from her husband in March, and Jost … wait a minute. What happened to the fake love story of Colin Jost and SNL’s Leslie Jones? Is he cheating on her now? That was one response from the always-ready Internet:

It’s been five months since she announced her divorce.     Before divorcing her French husband Romain Dauriac, Johansson was married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008-2011.

  • ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sets ‘Weekend Update’ Spinoff for Summer

    Saturday Night Live“Weekend Update” will be updating viewers all summer.

    “Saturday Night Live” is spinning off the popular satirical news segment into its own primetime series. NBC has ordered four episodes, with the first premiering Thursday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. Current “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che will continue to man the desk in the spinoff.

    “SNL” is experiencing a ratings resurgence and getting a lot of buzz for its take on President Donald Trump and his administration.

    “‘SNL’ is having its best season in a quarter of a century — how many shows can say that?! — so we didn’t want them to take the summer off,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have Colin Jost and Michael Che continuing their unique brand of news with fresh ‘Weekend Update’ shows in primetime this August.”

    This isn’t the first time “Weekend Update” has aired in primetime. In 2008, Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers headlined a primetime version in the weeks before the presidential election between Barack Obama and John McCain.
